My brother is 17 and addicted to gambling.
This addiction has cost us so much as a family especially my widowed mum.

He is constantly selling things and using money meant for his rent, upkeep, etc to gamble. Just last week he used his laptop to gamble. We have used tough love and right now we have exhausted all options to make him stop.

Like every other addiction if we are not proactive I'm afraid this will ruin him.

Additional Information: He's currently a 200L student of a federal uni but ever since he gained admission it has been one problem or the other caused by gambling. I'm thinking of withdrawing him and put him in a juvenile home if everything else fails.

I need practical solutions and advice on how to make him stop. If you are a recovered gambler please share what helped you.

You'd NEVER see me in a bet shop or holding a bet ticket.

Its been feeding me but I usually advice people against it.


1. Seize his phone. He Won't be able to check livescores and fixtures again

2. Reduce His pocket money. Let him not have spare cash. He can decide to gamble with the little left then stay hungry.

3. Change his house location. Gamblers usually have friends with same mindset in d neighborhood.

4. This is the MOST IMPORTANT...!!! betting left a space in ur brothers mind. You must fill up that space else something else will.

For instance, if u did 1 - 3 above, he might quit betting but START smoking , womanizing, cultism or chronic stealing.

So, how do u fill up the space?

Keep him busy...!!!

First, look for the closest Christ embassy church or Jehova witness church and hand it over to their pastor

Those guys r good in follow up.
Let them give him a post. Even if its assistant media coordinator or any useless post.

Afterwards, enroll him to learn a skill while at school.
Example: tailoring, computer science, etc

Or stuffs like learning AutoCAD , digital marketing , etc


These things would make him not to have time for himself not to talk of time for gambling.


The fastest solution would be for u to rent hostel accomodation for him.
Then plead with those Christ embassy or Jehovah witness guys to take him along during room to room evangelism.

After that, he'd never play bet openly again.
He might do it secretly but the gambling rate would reduce drastically.

I never save my nysc alawee ( ₦19,800 then) to start up my farm, and as a matter of fact, after nysc I was able to save just 40k

The issue of farming came up when a brother that has been in the pineapple farming for a while introduced me to it and learn about it
I started mine with the little I was saving after setting up farm for people.
And also the 700k is not something I just have and pour in the farm at ones
It's a gradual spending

I know this isn't the right section. But I don't know the right one and so I opted to post here since it seems to have a lot of traffic.

Yesterday, I returned to my room to find a rat dead in the middle of it. Ordinarily, I wouldn't be bothered. But this rat has clearly been bitten (pictures will be displayed below). I called a neighbour and we examined it. We were arguing if a snake could have done it, and if yes, why it didn't swallow it. In any case, we decided to leave it where it was to see if whatever killed it would return for it. I went to sleep at a friend's.

We returned this morning to find the dead rat gone. So, I called others to join me and we ransacked every nook and cranny of the room. We couldn't find anything threatening. But we did find another rat killed in much the same manner as the first (second picture).

It irks that I can't find what did this. I can't sleep in the room as it is. So please, experts in the house, help me to identify what it could be and what can be done.

I've had similar experience in the past when I was a kid.

Back then, I had up to 3 rat traps at home.

Whenever my trap kills a rat, before morning I'd notice that part of d rat has been eaten just like d one in d pics above.

At first, I thought it were d ants cos I usually woke up to find large quantities of ant feasting on what's left of d rat .


But HELL NO...!!!

I woke up one night to d shock of my life.

There's this particular type of rat with LONG mouth and also has a very BAD smell. I don't know what people call it.

But if u r watching movies in ur parlor and that rat enters your house, you'd know instantly cos it has a very bad odour.

It was that rat that was eating d other dead rat.

I caught it red handed.

But I left d half-eaten dead rat in d trap so that by morning, I'd discard it (as usual)

To my greatest surprise when I returned, I caught that same rat in same region eating same dead rat.

This time around, it has eaten out half of d head region, one leg , but mostly the stomach and intestines.


Ask ur neighbors about that rat. They'll definitely tell u they've been seeing it.

The rat eats open d dead rat while d ants (or sometimes coakroaches) eats a greater part.

The ant usually goes in colonies and villagers will tell u that in that number, they've been killing and eating fowls or even goats.
