I dey laff oh!!

Even though I agree with GEJ on this one that this summit is just a jamboree as I can't see what value it will add to the development of the region. It probably is just another talk-show.....lol! Nonetheless, one would have expected the event to be well coordinated & structured.

The level of rot & corruption in this country has eaten so deep into it's fabric, that it rears its ugly head at every opportunity.

Imagine an event of such magnitude with all the dignitaries both local & foreign & we couldn't even get something as basic a simple PA system right? Come on!!! A N5b event centre that doesn't have a funtional generator Are you effing kidding me? WTH? When even some ordinary event centers have impeccable facilities with efficient stand-by arrangements? What happened to test runs & QA/QC's?

We can't even put our best foot forward at organising these kind of events that actually mirrors our image to the outside world?
An event that was supposed to sit 2 current presidents & other foreign heavy-weights? #icantshout#

Such a shame! The hallmark of corruption, Ineptitude, incompetence & downright abdication of responsibilities. . . . **SMH for Nigeria & it's Leaders**

Ornella: I haven't read all the posts but OP, unfortunately I am almost like your sis-in-law to my bro-in-law that lives with my husband and I. We used to be cool until he started living with us, 3+ years now. And how sad that I am more often than not grumpy round the house!

- He works but has never bought a slice of bread for the house, bar of soap or anything else for that matter.
- But who is first to reach the kitchen on his return from work? Though doesn't know how the food got there and doesn't know to help bring the food shopping in from the car.
- Whose plate is always heaped, who eats more than the standard 3 times a day at the weekend? And who for f**** sake eats 11 eggs in one sitting? (I have stopped buying eggs except we need it
- Who feels he has the right to remove a built in wardrobe without asking permission and not because he wants to put in something better?
- Why would anyone buy takeaway for themselves only? When you are living with other people who when they buy, do buy for everyone?
- Not 1 Xmas has he ever bought a present for my child or even birthdays. Even the nanny buys presents for the child.
- Washes only the things he has used in the kitchen not even if the only other item is a spoon, he leaves it there. I'd rather you didn't wash anything at all.
- Takes over the washing machine the whole weekend and has never bought washing powder before. If we run out, he stacks his clothes until Mrs foolish goes to the shops.

Some other relatives of theirs stayed with us at some point too and exactly same attitude. Telling me the bread is almost finished or refusing to let the nanny use her daughter's baby wipes for my child because my child's own is upstairs or downstairs etc. I had to place many wipes round the house to let her know I could afford load of wipes.

I know I should raise the issues I have but I have tried several times with my husband and we always end up having a long drawn out week of not talking to each other. His brother can do no wrong in his eyes. I have tried to ignore these things but I can't. If you are anything like him, I don't blame your SIL. Best thing is everyone maintain for them own place. I need grace for prayer and fasting to open their whole family's eyes that it is time to get his own place.

Probably ranted a lot but it's just wrong.

Seriously?!!! **shivers**

You mean you've been dealing with all this for 3+ years? OMG!!! Ma'm I must give you a lot of credit because am sure it must take a lot of strength to deal with this shooiitt! I mean, come on!!!

Na wah for some of these family people sha! Always wanting to 'parasite' in their brother's home & living like it's their God forsaken right! WTH!!! How can a grown assed man who is working still be perching in his bros house? And he's contributing zilch to the house? Can't even buy basics like soap, bread, washing powder? Now eats like his intestines have been taking out...? 11 eggs? Lol! **does the sign of the cross**

These are things that push women to lock the cabinets & store when family peeps just can't stop eating so greedily & finishing all the food in the house....and contributing nothing!!! The cost of food shopping for the house will now double just because of one person with gluttonous tendencies...Damn! Upon all that, no form of appreciation to acknowledge all your efforts? O ga oh!

Women, it is well with us! Honestly, at times I wonder how much patience & tolerance one needs to have to deal with in-laws.... Because even when you think you've had it, they strech it again beyond even further. Na wah!!!
Career / Re: Total Oil And Gas Workers by nikkygal(f): 5:20pm On Apr 27, 2012

2good: Total is a very disorganised company when it comes to recruitment. I participated in the October 2011 Career In Africa recruitment exercise in London and wrote the Total test, was successful and had the line Manager/HR interviewed after which I was sent an email in December 2011 that I was successful in the interview that they will contact me in due course for subsequent stages. Up till now, neither me nor any other person I knew that got the success mail back then from Total has been called for the later stage and thesame thing happened to person that did the Total recruitment in OTC conference in Texas and Career in Africa fair in the US. Total just went blank. Infact I have a friend who did medicals almost 2years in London ago and yet to resume work with them because they said they don't have an open position for him yet. There is also another friend that participated in the May 2011 career In Africa Summit in London that is yet to do the final interview after being successful in the last one he did.
As for me, I already have a job in an Oil operator in Europe, so I have kind of blanked them off my mind. My advice is if you're hoping on Total Nigeria, look for something else to do with your life else you could be frustrated
tanimola22:

You are obviously not a JJC in oil and gas matters. See your guys rejecting offers that people can develop wings and fly to get. hahahha, this world is really not even.

Congrats on your newly found international career.

T22

@2good

I agree with you on this. I know quite a number of people that have been communicated to by Total as successful in their recruitment campaigns via Careers in Africa & other similar International fora that till now they've not been asked to resume.

I heard the projects that some of them were pencilled down to work for are not coming on-stream till 2013/2014 angry shocked . So you can imagine the angst of these guys, 'why did you then waste my time NOW'? A particular guy was even given a letter containing his package but there was no actual job title on it & so he flipped and told them clearly that he can't relocate to naija without knowing what particular job he's coming to do. This is someone already working for another top Oil major in the US, fully settled with a family & you expect him to leave like that just on a 'vague' job title/expectation because of money?? Quite a number of the guys i know sha have moved on and have taken their minds away from them since their recruitment process is not well structured & just all over the place.

Though i must confess that 2 of my friends were lucky as they were able to resume with Total about August/Sept. last year and they only started their recruitment process with them around November 2010. Both of them were Naija Bsc.holders but went to the UK for their Msc after about 5yrs work experience in Shell & Schlumberger respectively. One went to HW & the other went to Uni.of Glasgow. . . . .so i guess different strokes for different folks.

@Bizgirl

My heart goes out to you and i can imagine how you feel. . . .

My advise to you will be not to feel sorry for yourself no matter how bleak things may seem now. Pick yourself up and let your current predicament only make you more aggressive to reaching your goal which is getting a better job.

I'll advise you go back & re-register for ACCA or ICAN which ever you can afford at the moment and face those exams squarely with the intent of passing each of them at the 1st sitting. There's nothing as distressing as putting in so much efforts in your work and getting next to nothing back in form of rewards. You need to keep your head up & stay focused! ACCA/ICAN will be more beneficial to you in the long run than a BSc so that will be my first choice of action. Since you've already commenced the Bsc, you can still go ahead with it but you might end up having too much on your plate too deal with all at the same time.

Getting the ICAN/ACCA certification will help stamp your feet as a professional in the financial services industry and will serve as a leverage to getting better jobs since you already have relevant working experience.

My sister, no pain no gain! Roll up your sleeves & get to work. . . .nothing good comes easy! You can ace these exams in 2-3yrs and all these agony will be a thing of the past. All you need is focus and determination . . . .Trust me, am talking from experience . .been there, done that & got the T-shirt!

I wish you the very best!!!

shiloh: Nice job dere Seanbell...its quite educating. Can d digital OPK be used more dan once as in can it be recycled?
MSTIA: @seanbell please do you know how much the digital OPK goes for.

Good job SeanBell. . . .

Very educative posts. Even if we've been previously familiar with OPK's, it's always refreshing reading such articles all over again so as to remind us of the do's & dont's.

Shiloh & MSTIA

The digital OPKs are expensive! In Nigeria, they range between 5k-6k in the big pharmacies that sell them. If you want to buy them, make sure you look out for the [ClearBlue Digital OPK that reflects a smiley and not the one that uses the 2 lines as an indicator. The 1st time i bought the digital monitor, it was the 2-line one i bought and it was still fairly confusing in reading the results >: So you can imagine how pissed off i was after spending all that money! Anyway, i just 'managed' it like that so that my money won't waste....lol!

Subsequently, i made sure i bought the digital kits that uses the smiley face when I travelled & it has helped me though I don't use it that often. . . . sad The downside with these digital kits is that they are expensive and so if you use them regularly, a pack won't last you more than 2 cycles. [/[s]But am sure some of us won't mind, as long as it delivers the goods[/s]...lol! tongue

Ifueko is one of the 'few good 'men' we have left in this country. This article fully encapsulates what this woman stands for and I can personally attest to her zeal & committment and relate to the giant strides she achieved while in FIRS.

I used to work with FIRS closely before when I was in one of the Big 4 accounting firms and you could see a brand new zeal and lease of life permeating the whole place. She revolutionized FIRS, computerised their operations and tried as much as possible to improve the level of efficiency across board. Her private sector experience from KPMG(AA)really helped her and honestly she was able to tread where a lot of men had previously failed. . . One hell of an 'Iron Lady' and always ready to 'bulldoze' her way to get the job done.

Congrats to Ifueko once again! Am proud to be associated with you professionally kiss wink. Do keep the flag flying wink

You said u don't usually see EWCM at all. Have u tried preseed? I have tried it b4 with SucceSs though ened in MC. Don't even know why I haven't tried it again after that. Wanted to try it this cycle shaa but didn't see it to buy where I usually buy drugs.

@Udoka

Read my post again. . . . I don't have issues with EWCM.So far, i've been able to detect ovulation using my CM together with OPKs so no issues and coupled with the fact that my cycles are pretty regular. I could try preseed though, maybe it could help improve my CM even further....lol! Abeg no harm in trying wink

Ovulated at day 42??And i was busy eating paper for CD27.So how will someone know when to bd?
I am ready for any side effects ooo, cheesy.I fear that vitex like crazy.The reports about it swing from very good to very bad but at least the bromocriptine does what it is told to do and the advice is to take it with food before sleeping.If only i could self medicate cheesy cheesy!!!This place,rules and regulation plus protocol pass pesin,i haven't even gotten to see the specialist.If i was in Naija i would have been on the road to 'healing' grin grin grin.
Plus the bromocriptine has real success at restoring the gonadotropic hormones and giving back regular cycles.All the studies have been positive..I have been dreaming about that drug,i see it dancing in my dreams..hehehehehehehe.

@Seanbell

Read my post again....I didn't ovulate at CD42 oh...lol! My periods are very regular 27/28days.The only thing I noticed late last year was that my periods became unusually short like 2days...unlike the normal 4-5days...That was what instigated my move to Vitex & my period is now normalising...the last one was 4days which was a significant improvement.
The problem with the bromo.like Udoka said is the crazy side effects & I think it's slow to take effect. I used it for almost 3months & it's effect was just very marginal....and you know how TTC is, we want fast results....lol! I just fashied it jare....lol!

@Udoka2

I thought the prolactin baseline was 25?...That's what I saw on a couple of sites but i might be wrong sha...This prolactin wahala sef, I just tire....lol!
Am sure the vitex will really help you in regulating your cycles and help in the prolactin reduction as well...

SeanBell: @udoka2

I also have high prolactin,my last test showed almost 1300
However,i have my periods every month,i am just not sure i ovulate and i cannot even pinpoint the ovulation since my period swings days.
I got tired of using the opk sef and dropped it entirely.Started bbt charting on fertility friend..well guess what?I had the thermal shift on CD 27,lol.I was only looking out for Ov at least CD 18-22 highest so you can imagine my shock..
Unfortunately even if i Ovulated,i don't think i BD on the so called fertile days...Can u imagine?/After serious bd non stop from day 16-22,and almost fainting from exhaustion,even to the extent of DH eyes shining with fear when he sees me approaching,lol(just exaggerating)..
I feel so sad..infact i'm still waiting for an appointment to be fixed for me with the endocrinologist,i just want treatment sharpish,don't want to go through all the investigations again jare..all them magnetic rays and co..
If you have same issues as me,have you gotten the treatment for high prolactin?How did it go?

BD to all those who still have energy ooo smiley

@SeanBell

I feel you on this. I have slightly high prolactin levels as well even though my doctor says it's fine but it's slightly elevated. My current levels are swinging between 27-29 even though it was previously around 32/33. . . . .I'll advise you take Vitex (a herbal fertility blend) to help you gradually reduce your prolactin levels and help in regularising your cycles.

Bromocromptine(sp?)that doctors often prescribe to reduce prolactin levels has some crazy side effects that can almost run you crazy! Men, i had to drop that thing like it's hot. . . . grin

I can imagine how you must have felt when you realised the thermal shift. . . . sad That's the problem with irregular cycles and even our bodies sef at times. . . . They just have a mind of their own at times and it can just be so frustrating, especially when one realises that all the energy in the BD was wasted. . . . lol! I'll also advise you keep monitoring your CM as well even though i know that can be a chore on its own too but wetin we go do? lol!

Coldfeet: I discussed the issue with my husband and he asked me what I intended doing? I said confront my dad ofcourse! And he said so you believed her? To even want to confront your dad based only on her words? Do you know your father at all? And i was like why would she lie? If my husband is a violent man he would have hit me! The hurt on his face would make one think the man in question is his father! I was shocked when he said my "adorable" cousin also came to him a few weeks back accusing ME! Of entertaining men in my shop and the sort of things i and my girlfriends talk about whenever they visit! He said he didn't bring it up then because of the stress i was on due to my mums life threatening operation. I took my cousin to my aunts house when asked to repeat all she told me and my husband she became mute! Until her mum was called to speak to her and before i could finish narrating what was going on her mum cut me short and said she is lying!! such was the reason why she sent her to lagos, that she did the same thing to their neighbours son! Whose father dealt with mercilessly when the matter was reported to him, she gave herself away when she was heard boasting about it! She was sent to lagos cos the boys in their street vowed to beat her up! It was when i threatened to send her back to ABA that she opened up and said aunty am sorry i lied! I asked which one? She said about daddy! Why? Nothing! I was so LIVID i pounced on her!. There won't be any need to confront my dad after all and i hope he never gets to hear about it either! as for my cousin? ABA awaits her she must go back and make amends with that poor boy and write her exams there. She'll never step foot in my house ever again!. I shudder to think of the damage this girl could have done my family! I thank everyone!

You can just imagine the amount of colossal damage this girl could have done to your family!!! embarassed shocked

It would have been double-fold. . . . . .Destroy the trust & love your husband has for you and your relationship with your Dad as well shocked My goodness!!! *** I shudder just thinking about it***

One Of The Best Gifts I Received Was A Year’s Subscription To The Economist And

During my days as an intern I was called into the office of the CEO to have a meeting with her. She was telling me about my potential but then asked me about my reading habits. I told her I like reading, and I read the newspaper here and there, and then she proceeded to tell me that I must make it a daily habit to read something SUBSTANTIAL everyday.

I looked at her kind of funny and wondered what she meant by substantial. Eventually she ordered me a years worth of The Economist, and I can say that was one of the best gifts I have ever received.

It is okay to get news from websites such as Bella Naija and Nairaland, but to make you a well rounded person include other reputable newspapers. This may sound like a simple statement, but you will be surprised how many do not make reading the news a daily habit. Do not just read only Nigerian news, because you will only see things from one perspective.

The power of the internet now enables people to have access to places like WSJ, The New York Times, and Financial Times. Make sure to also incorporate industry news. In my professional I have a list of websites, and blogs I go to daily to keep up on current trends.

You will be surprised on how much reading daily helps you start conversations at networking events, or help initiate a conversation at an interview. Also, reading the news gives you a holistic view on the different components of the business and the factors that influence it.

Some people will say well I do not have time to read daily, but I beg to differ. Instead of searching around on facebook take that time out to read the news paper or something pertaining to your industry. What is your favorite daily read?

Original Source

@OP

You couldn't have said it any better!

The benefits of subscriptions to Foreign Magazines & Industry Newsletters can not be over emphasised. One thing i've noticed is being abreast of developments across the globe either within your career track or across economies as a whole always gives you an edge in Networking events.

In addidtion, a lot of these knowledge is also very useful at work during discussions spanning global best practices especially if you're working with a Multi-national. . .A lot of our youths these days are heavily into social networks -FB, Twitter, BB etc at the detriment of their personal development and others are fully fixated on acquiring professional certifications, thinking that's where it ends.

To develop along career lines effectively and even as a well-rounded  individual, we need to broaden our horizons & release ourselves from the 'silos' mentality. Read about shared Global best practices, developments & innovations as these keep changing daily and will go a long way into even making us more versatile & competitive in our careers.

My sister's friend assisted  " financially " to complete her husbands house in Ajah Lagos. At any arguement, he says to his wife "This is my house"
She is now building a house for herself and children.

Imagine that!!! The man developed a short memory the moment they moved into the house. . . . shocked cry

That is even a mild case.
While I was in Uni, my room mate's dad died and at the funeral they were presented with the man's 2nd wife and her sons while my friend's mum, has just 2 girls.  My friend, her sister and mother were treated like strangers at the funeral while the woman with the sons became the chief mourner.
The first son inherited the property and was given the choice of 'dashing' things to the girls.  My friend's mum who happened to be a white lady parked her daughters and relocated within a week.

Another case happened in my place of worship; a sister lost her husband and her husband's 'people' came to their house and carted away all the valuables claiming they want to use them for the funeral and for training the children in school.  She and her little kids (boys and girl) got nothing.

Abeg o, in this partnership called marriage one has to be really careful with Joint Ventures to avoid crying at the end.

GBAM!!!

Women need to protect themselves & their kids wella to avoid all these 'preying' in-laws & even some of these ungrateful men from scrounging on their sweat.

My mind tells me the woman has a plan.  First, the lady needs to be open and brave, and raise the discussion when her mother-in-law and the husband are present.  She needs to watch how the husband react during the discussion.  The man too might have a plan.  If she discovers that the man does not have any evil plan, she can invest in the business/house, but the documents MUST carry their names; as joint owners and partners, and she must be sure that she's the man's next-of-kin. Some people are better 'helped' in their quest for death.  The mother-in-law has earned a place among those qualified to be poisoned.

You really wont understand the pain except you have been in that kinda situation.

- When you laugh or smile and play, people will ask what is making you (your prisoner) happy, instead of you to be crying that you are barren.

- When you are down and praying , they say you are envious. They remind of of the several boyfriends you had back in college. Like we no know say na asewo dey born pass!

- When you stay away (so that you avoid the two points above), they say you are not happy for them.

- When they offer you ridiculous ways out (like taking you to a herbalist) and you decline, they say you are proud and your suffering never start.

- When you tell them you are waiting on God for His miracle, they say 'Heaven helps those who help themselves'

- When you go to church, the pastor indirectly says you are barren because or your sins or lack of sowing seed to the church.

- When you correct a child for doing wrong, the mother will remind you of how barren you are.

- When you eventually get pregnant and keep it to yourself,  they get mad that because you did not inform them; they say it is fake, or you adopted, or you did surrogacy. Like any of those is bad.  Ask Beyonce.

- When you give your precious miracle child several names, they call you illuminati. Ask Beyonce

God help us all.

I feel sorry for her because it seriously weighs her down, she is deeply unhappy, people don't invite her to their kids birthdays, naming ceremony and other social gatherings that involve kids, the harsh ones mock her or use her situation to get at her when ever she offends them, she has her own short comings but the way people use her childlessness to get at her is so sad and just wrong. . . .I know very well that kids (like marriage) are so overrated. . .

You nailed it Bros!!!

Women TTC are constantly under the searchlight. . . . .always having to walk on egg shells.  cry sad Even here on NL i've heard a couple of people insult thier fellow women that they are 'barren' . . .  lipsrsealed cry   Come on! Why insult or mock someoone with such a sensitive issue? Our society especially in Nigeria is really terrible at this.

On the flip side, Some people make it more difficult for people trying to conceive,

When I was trying to, I just never did anything right, if I smiled too much, wahala, If I frown, double wahala, If I dress well, am not somber, If I talk about it, I get pitiful long faces, If I don't, am not trying to get help.

Friends with kids avoid you cos they think u get depressed by seeing their children, my best friend invited everyone but me to her babies' naming ceremony, ure the last to hear of a friends child's birthday, if my friends and I were looking at pictures or news on the Internet, they quickly skip baby or anything about babies. It really made me very uncomfortable.

Pls not every woman trying to conceive is bitter, the least you could do is be normal around them, talk normally, laugh normally, except, of course, u notice it makes her uncomforble.

GBAM!!!  +10000

It's easy for women who have never walked in those shoes to 'cast aspersions' and at times make uncanny statements wandering why a lady who is TTC is acting the way she does. The truth is a lot of them don't know that most of these women are constantly under the searchlight by their contemporaries and constantly scrutinised  angry sad sad

If you talk wahala, if you dont . . . same thing! Even when they try to relate normally with their peers at times, they might just feel this unnecessary ease.

The fact is, we are all human and no matter how happy one is for friends & family that have babies & felicitate with them , there will still be that yearning for yours as well . . . . .It's only natural  wink smiley smiley

A lot of the times, the people around make it difficult for women still struggling with these fertility issues either family or friends as they are constantly judging their actions.

I think there's the need for women TTC to strike a balance and try to reach out to people around them that are showing them love and not wear their emotions on their sleeves. . . . undecided sad  Even though i know it's easier said than done. . . .

It's very painful though and i think it's normally done during the 1st few days of AF.

@Shiloh

It's perfectly normal to have cramps before your period even though there's also a chance that you could be 'cramping' and AF won't show because you'll be having a BFP. . . . grin shocked cool Even in early pregnancy, you'll be cramping as your uterus is expanding but you won't see your period as the uterine lining won't shed. . . . wink

I also initially found it very worrying about the cramps but i later found out that it was normal and i noticed the other side when i previoulsly got pregnant before my m/c.

So just be calm babe, all will be well . . . . .**sending hugs & baby dust to you***

Hello TTC Ladies!

Am a keen follower of this thread and just wanted to chip in. . .smiley

Am also TTC for about a year now after a miscarriage & recently found out that my prolactin levels were 'slightly' high. My doctor prescribed parlodel & I've used it constantly for over 2months but have recently got tired of it especially becos of its side effects too, sad

I've heard a lot about vitex, so I recently ordered it through a friend in the US & should get it next week.I also plan to use cyclogest to boost my progesterone levels. It seems like miscarriages have a way of messing up your hormonal system & it usually takes time to normalise.

Congrats to all the preggy ladies in the house & baby dust to the rest of us. 2012 is our year!

Falana has been spot on with all his arguements. The pertinent question he asked was: So if the price of crude increases in the Int'l market to $200/barrel, what happens?

In effect, we'll have to pay over N200/litre for PMS? Or will the govt not have to subsidie again even after 'deregulating' the downstream sector?  So GEJ & his cohorts should make up their mind either to continue fixing prices or allow market forces do that. . .

If cameroon increases the price of PMS to N300 a litre, we also have to increase ours again to avoid smuggling?

Is that the solution to smuggling?

@ Omo Tier 1

I have to agree with Chaircover on this one that in recent times, Arik have been boarding their passengers into hot boiling planes,

I've not flown with them on their LOS-LHR route but on their local flights, LOS-PHC, to be precise, I have encountered this more than 5 times in the last 2months, We are always boarded into an extremely hot plane with excuses about a faulty a/c even though most pple say they are trying to conserve fuel.

You need to understand the magnitude of the heat in question here! With a fully packed plane of about 130 pple! OMG! Terrible! Infact on one of those flights (an early morning flight to PH), they confirmed that the plane just arrived from LHR that morning. So you can just imagine,

They might have challenges but TBH, I think their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
