Okoya: All my efforts ended with a CGPA 3.49..... what's
my fate in the market? Maybe I should just get a
transcript. This Is so painful. Please I need words
of encouragement.
Quite unfortunate, i have a friend that graduated with 3.49, same as yours.
Why don't schools or even departments round up these figures (you know what i mean)?
Anyway, the best is to indicate it on your resume that you had a 'superior 2.2' as earlier stressed by T22 and maybe you are good to go.

Personally i prefer brown beans because it taste better than white beans.
Unarguably, the brown/red beans taste better but the main is, which is richer?

Career › Re: Work Experience Or Further Study. by nitrogen(op): 9:36pm On May 15, 2012
@T22, am sorry for the assymetric nature of the information, actually, the main of this thread is: which is better of the two, work experience(3-5 yrs) first before further studies or further studies immediately after first degree. I just used my second post on this thread to buttress the first. Basically, am talking about real work experience and not that crappy nysc experience.

Btw, you guys have already thrashed it out and it has been insightful.
Anyway, more contributions are welcome.
Career › Re: Work Experience Or Further Study. by nitrogen(op): 9:22pm On May 15, 2012
Dis Guy: if you're above 30 before graduation, if you graduate 30 years ago at the age of 29 dem go ask you for enrol #

Read the post at work, I didn't know it was NYSC work experience you were talking about all along I mean LMAOOOOOO of all things
The work experience i am talking about is the real one and not about nysc experience, that(nysc) is shit. The case of the conversation with my friend stated was just cited, but main thing is this; which is better? Get some work experience before furthering your studies or further your study straight after first degree.
Btw, have got the drift about the nysc stuff. Thanks
Career › Re: Work Experience Or Further Study. by nitrogen(op): 7:30pm On May 15, 2012
AjanleKoko: No, NYSC can't be gotten easily. Lots of returnee colleagues have been fired by MNCs in Nigeria, as a result of 'dud' NYSC certificates.
However, returnees can serve whenever they come back. I believe they even have a choice of location. So, if you got an offer to work in Nigeria, you can do your NYSC while working. I have this senior colleague who just completed NYSC, as a C-level in an MNC. He's been in the Diaspora for 2 decades plus.
i thought if one should be above 30 years, one is not eligible for the nysc program.

@AJ, Denee,yem,t22,
Thanks for those eye opening posts. God help in all your endeavours. Sincerely, these have been stuffs bothering me and i thing am getting it now.
Career › Re: Work Experience Or Further Study. by nitrogen(op): 3:27pm On May 15, 2012
@ all, i had a chat some weeks ago with with a friend that was a set ahead of me in the university, after all the 'long time, no see' stuff, the remaining part of the conversation went this way:
Nitrogen: how service nw, hope u dey enjoy that place?
Friend: nitro, forget, i don ja o( am nt serving again)
Nitro: whyhuh? Cos of the insecurity saga in that place or what?
Friend: no, am out of the country doing my masters.
Nitro: what?? You left nysc for masters?
Friend: dnt dull yourself o,,,,,,,

After the conversation, then i got myself into a slight pondering, 'how on earth could a fellow in his late 20s abandone nysc program because he got a chance to further his studies abroad'. But later, i generalized it that everybody has got his or her own way and the level of risk that can be taken by individuals differ.

But seriously, do you share in this wonderful evolving theory?? That even the only programme (nysc) that helps give experience (although sparingly) is neglected by recent graduates in the name of getting a scholarship in an average university abroad for further studies, to me, i think it is crazy.
Career › Work Experience Or Further Study. by nitrogen(op): 12:52pm On May 15, 2012
Different perspectives to these two has may be been part of constituents to many fresh grad's problems (especially nigerian graduates).

A situation whereby when one is through with his/her first degree, the next necessary thing is to go get a job in order to increase one's experience in his or her field. After getting the necessary experience, then you can further your studies.

The other is depicted this way: 'Now, i have a degree(first), since the resources are available, am going for further studies, i dont need related experience to break into the job market because when am through with my studies( maybe to a MBA level), i will break in easily'.

These two stated above has been generating a lot of debates, where different opinions are put forward by different individuals. Please, elaborate on these because it has been a concern to many 'soon to be graduates' and graduates.

chuks49: All Hail the First Lady!
She has done it again. Directives has been given and its been announced over the Radio and TV station that all shops and businesses on Warri Sapele road be shut down simply because the Queen of Nigeria (Dame Patience Jonah) is coming to open a shop most probably, belonging to one of her friends. Not a shopping mall, but just one shop. Forgetting that Warri Sapele is a strong business part of the town with about 20 banks on its way.

This is not right, this madness should be stopped. Please re-broadcast to let the world know we are not happy with this actions coming from the Office of the First Lady each time she goes out.

God Bless Warri,
God Bless Delta,
God Bless Nigeria.

BeingAkorede: @Deandavid, sir, what would you have suggested for the graduate with holding a 3rd degree huh
Though this wasnt directed to all but david, but i think i can still make some contributions.

A grad with 3rd class can still be considered in maybe just one or two universities in ninja, and also it depends on the course u read in school and what you want to go for in your postgraduate study.

Seriously, the norm is this: go for pgd programme, then you can go for your masters straightaway. Its hard to go for masters with your third class degree in most institutions unless through the pgd route.

Btw, you can go through the websites of these unis in nigeria to access their requirements, who knows, u might be lucky.

@op, dont judge, but what is happening nowadays attracts judgement, where we have pastors emphasizin more on prosperity more than salvation, seriously these pastors has completely deviated from their comission and all they can do is to amass wealth, make themselves gods and others, its uncalled for.
From slapping a poor gurl to all sorts of ridiculous things done by these so called men of God calls for judgement, just that we arent to judge.

For me, i prefer baptist church to even all these penticostal churches, cos at least these baptist pastors even dey try, salvation is the main of their preachings.

God will sha help us.

@T22,
the direction of covariance determines the direction of correlation through the determination of the relationship between the performances of the securities.
Thus, we have coefficient of correlation which is the covariance of the securities divided by the product of all the standard deviations of the securities.
Portfolio theory, huh, i did a bit of it in school and thats an aspect of finance management that i really like.

deenee: Definition of 'Short Selling'

The selling of a security that the seller does not own, or any sale that is completed by the delivery of a security borrowed by the seller. Short sellers assume that they will be able to buy the stock at a lower amount than the price at which they sold short.

Selling short is the opposite of going long. That is, short sellers make money if the stock goes down in price.

This is an advanced trading strategy with many unique risks and pitfalls. Novice investors are advised to avoid short sales.

Definition of 'Hedge Fund'

An aggressively managed portfolio of investments that uses advanced investment strategies such as leveraged, long, short and derivative positions in both domestic and international markets with the goal of generating high returns (either in an absolute sense or over a specified market benchmark).

Legally, hedge funds are most often set up as private investment partnerships that are open to a limited number of investors and require a very large initial minimum investment. Investments in hedge funds are illiquid as they often require investors keep their money in the fund for at least one year.

For the most part, hedge funds (unlike mutual funds) are unregulated because they cater to sophisticated investors. In the U.S., laws require that the majority of investors in the fund be accredited. That is, they must earn a minimum amount of money annually and have a net worth of more than $1 million, along with a significant amount of investment knowledge. You can think of hedge funds as mutual funds for the super rich. They are similar to mutual funds in that investments are pooled and professionally managed, but differ in that the fund has far more flexibility in its investment strategies.

It is important to note that hedging is actually the practice of attempting to reduce risk, but the goal of most hedge funds is to maximize return on investment. The name is mostly historical, as the first hedge funds tried to hedge against the downside risk of a bear market by shorting the market (mutual funds generally can't enter into short positions as one of their primary goals). Nowadays, hedge funds use dozens of different strategies, so it isn't accurate to say that hedge funds just "hedge risk". In fact, because hedge fund managers make speculative investments, these funds can carry more risk than the overall market.

(Culled from Investopedia)
Thanks for this.

Do we have firms that do this hedge fund of a thing in nigeria, and if there are, what is the minimum net worth for investors? ( that of U.S is 1 million dollars as stated in the quoted post)
Politics › Re: FG To Release The List Of Boko Haram Sponsors by nitrogen(m): 9:02pm On May 05, 2012
Anurugwo: In their bid to end the ceaseless attacks being unleashed on some parts of the country by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, security chiefs have prepared a list of the sect’s backers. The list is said to contain names of suspected backers of the sect and other terror groups.

A security source told our correspondent on Friday that the list was compiled by top security chiefs at a meeting held to strategise on how to end the spiralling violence.

The official said the decision to compile the list was born out of the belief of the security chiefs that the anti-terrorism battle could be won sooner than expected if people linked with violence were exposed.

The security chiefs were said to have worked on the intelligence report that some top politicians had been giving financial backing to terror groups with the aim of destabilising the present administration.

The official said the security officials had resolved to formally inform the office of the National Security Adviser about the alleged involvement of such politicians supporting terror groups.

Apparently supporting the claims of the NSA, Gen. Owoye Azazi, that some undemocratic practices within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the build-up to the 2011 general elections fuelled the violence, they heaped the blame on those they called greedy politicians.

http://www.punchng.com/news/fg-to-release-list-of-boko-haram-sponsors/
Hahaha, pdp and goodluck dey scope us, all these(gen azazi statement, boko haram group recent statemt, and the federal govt's response) are plots of pdp, dont forget, 'live with terrorism, terrorism will be over by june and others'.
Also, remember henry's confessions about the independence day bombings.
Nigerians, sit down and watch this film, be attentive cos it can only be enjoyed by through that.
