hischoice: That the poster is or is not a TrafFiKer is not the issue. What's posted is salient. Let's discuss it and leave out the messenger

What you have raised is quite an important one. I think majority of our engineering graduates do not make the best of SIWES. SIWES should go to usher in the one-year internship programme.
Sowi, hischoice=oremisusan.
Thanks.
Career › Re: I Have M.sc In Mechanical Engineering But Want To Write For ICAN by nitrogen(m): 11:16am On May 02, 2012
One thing i have seen common on Nairaland is seeing people who really don't know what they want from a career and are mostly motivated by the current money. By current money, I mean looking at what someone other guy is successful at and decide to turn their back on their own profession ignoring all the effort they have invested in it.

What you see is many people studying Accounting want to go for a masters degree in petroleum engineering because they read success story of a Petroleum Engineer or Industrial Engineer and how much money they earn and bla bla. Of course, sometimes these things called career change come to some unplanned which completely makes sense. Like the story of this dude in the Logistics thread who studied Engineering and now works in procurement for a bank. But spending 4 years B.Sc and 2 years Masters in Computer Science and Information Security with a professional certificate in Oil and gas is totally a waste of time. At least put in effort to find a job in your own field.

The morale of my story, if you love Mechanical engineering so much to the extent of getting a Masters degree and all of a sudden decided to pursue an ICAN professional cert. just because the guy before is doing fine in it, then i think that is the beginning of insanity.

To all nairalanders reading this
Please we need career diversity in Nigeria. We all won't work as a petroleum engineer and investment banker for this country to move forward.
You are'nt wrong and it is a general observation, just that the blame shouldnt be on all but some because ninja graduates are'nt exposed, thats why when someone comes up with/makes mention of a prof program unheard of before and its obvious benefits with examples, then most(grads) tend to delve into in without thinking of the adverse.

Another is the 'ninja mentality' factor, 'if it is politics that fetches plenty cash nowadays, we go do am togeda, or cfa gives upper hand in securing better paid jobs, i'll do the whole ¿¿3 levels¿¿ this yr'.

But basically, lack of info at the onset and even during the progammes is the main cause.
Career › Re: SIWES Or POST-GRADUATION INTERNSHIP. Which Better Provides The Do-how Capability by nitrogen(m): 10:53am On May 02, 2012
oremisussan: Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Education provides the Know-How Ability while Science, Engineering and Technology Training provides the Do-How Capability.

As it stands today in Nigeria, SET training is obtained by students of engineering only during their SIWES outings. Just wondering if that exposure is enough to round out an engineering graduates formal eduation. Should the programme be completely abolished for a one-year post graduation Internship programme or should both stay to complement one another?

Let's help the curricula planners decide with our comments here http://go.engineer-ng.net/xn/detail/6404812:Topic:26087?xg_source=activity or here. They are at a crossroad. Thanks.

alanpozar: Sorry guys, i shud have done this earlier.
The meristem interview was okay just that i didn't make it to the nxt stage.
The interview was to test decision making and leadership skills. Got info that the nxt stage is to test intellectual skills.
Guess i was whisked out cos out of the 4 of us dat came, i was the only person currently serving (others had completed NYSC and even had work experience). Or was i just unlucky?
Hey bro, dont worry, this will shoot you to a better and bigger world, believe me, that place is nt meant for you, so just prepare yourself for that bigger place ahead u. It is well.
Career › Re: Interview Question. Why Do Engineers Study Dy/dx? by nitrogen(m):
ishmael: I'm not an Engineer, i am a Statistician. In statistics it enables you to know or study the rate of change of variables or quantities compared with other variables or quantities. I believe it is the same for Engineering.
Right.
To determine the change in a variable with respect to the other variable.

acidtalk: Came across this post over a year ago and still loved the message.

Ti*t for Tat that's the name of the game.

I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

FOR EXAMPLE: One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed.

Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says "I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me."

I said "WHAT??!! What was that?!" Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear, "You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man." She responded to my puzzled look by saying, "Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?" Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed

Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep.

The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said lets get a pair for each outfit. We went onto the jewelry department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you, she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey." She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation she finally said, "I think this is all dear, let's go to the cashier."

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it."

Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled WHAT?"

I then said "honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?"

Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either.

moremi2008: No, he didn't come here for advice; he came to garner support for his delusions. I called him an aspiring rapper, in the absence of any provided details, to create an analogous situation. Was it facetious? Yes. But was it an effective tool to get my point across? Hell, yes!

I just have zero patience for young men like him. I have nothing against a media or music career (in fact, I have a couple of friends I respect a lot that are now well-known Nigerian rappers and they both happen to be very well educated). However, I can't stand charlatans, especially ones that can't pass basic JAMB. Did you take time to actually read that website? What has all those drawings and "inventions" got to do with a media career? Can you give me a succinct summary of the website while keeping a straight-face? That website contains the rantings of a delusional mind; I know mental instability when I see it.

You're advising him to go get "more exposure and quality guidance." Well, that's what higher education is for, even if it's only a basic OND! He's a young chap (no more than 22yrs). There's still time for him to invest in his human capital. A media career is not going to run away and his product/creations will be better for it. I can totally understand why his Dad is kicking him out of the house.

Of course, I will gladly eat my words if he comes back with professionally produced media that's backed by all the organizations he mentioned. Until then, I am calling his bluff and telling him to go to school like the rest of his mates! We aren't idiots here on Nairaland.

walexicant: You know, when i was going to school to study computer science i had smtin down in my mind: i wanted to change the world through the means of computer.

If i had known that with just being a school cert holder i could achieve that i would'nt have studied computer science i would have opted for an engineering course because in this field people do not respect us they think we are just roadside learners and we dont hold waters like our other counterparts in other fields like engineering, medicine, E.T.C. Even in some Companies I.T staff are treated like office assistants.

Please i would like for NLnders to contribute to this.
You are missing it for real, just make sure you know what you are doing and you are serious with it,also try to acquire more knwledge and skills through trainings and certifications. Believe me,you will be ahead of others in that field.

I.t world is a great world and the best presently.

One more thing, please always make research,it will expose you more to greater and better oppurtunities in your field

Mustay: Wow, that was such a comeback! cool Am just an observer here but at least for this section of the forum, it's expected that users are matured enough to pass their message across by constructing such in a clearly written manner. I personally hate reading 'abbrvtns' and feel it's like a deliberate method of punishing your recipients.

It doesn't take much to review your writing before posting so that your message is not miscontrued - that's why you have the PREVIEW button.

So biko, take criticisms (do like this for them sef - tongue) in 'utmost good faith' even if you feel it's overboard. You would be doing any reader a favor.
Peace
Thanks for this jare, i have been criticized many times on nairaland because of my 'txt-like posts', but i corrected myself.
Most times i even check my posts like two or three times before i submit them.
No one is above mistake, as always been said by T22, but you just try and avoid those mistakes and also accept criticisms because they will help develop you.
Anyway, sowi for the criticism, for real.
