Family › Re: Which Should Be First, Car, Marriage Or Better Apartment. by nitrogen(m): 7:24am On Jun 11, 2012
PrettyCindy: Op be wise so you wouldn't end up making the wrong decision.
If i am in shoes, a moderately furnished 2 bedroom apartment, a not too expensive car followed by a wife (moderate ceremony).
The house comes first because you need a decent home to accommodate your wife, and you know she can get pregnant any time.

The car will be useful to you especially during the marriage and wedding preparations for running around and of course it will still be useful after the wedding.
Chai! Ladies and wedding ceremonies, hardly could not words like wife, wedding, home, be found in each paragraph of your post. Oga o. Anyway, una need am.

Career › Re: Private Equity De-Mystified! by nitrogen(m): 10:01pm On Jun 10, 2012
@denee, please, when a private equity firm invests newly, and maybe 5-10 years is the target maturity period, what happens after the period as per the ownership of the investment, is it that the investment is sold off and the capital is returned to the individual investors or the firm still maintains the ownership? If the later is it, then how is the capital recouped?

Case study here is the Actis west africa and the new shopping mall at ikeja. What happens afterwards (set period)?

Please pardon my ignorance.
NYSC › Re: Ex corpers now in the real world. Welcome guys. Whats next? by nitrogen(m): 9:33pm On Jun 10, 2012
kilokeys: @nitrogen : i hv been trying to get d exact figures. Not even the nysc site has it... We were almost 2,000 in taraba last yr march. So lets say 2k*36 states = 72,000. Nt forgetting the fact that lagos, abj, ph that has more infrastructures besides schools tends to hv corpers of abt 4k, as thier orientation programme is even distributed in other states. If the 120k posted above is wrong.. Its not by a very very large margin.
Its a pity, God help us o.

Alamutatalo: Let me advice u based on experience
Was in same shoe with u about a year ago, decided to go for a car first
I got myself a very nice car and enjoyed it for exactly 2mths b4 the engine knocked
Ended up spending my savings for the next 7mths doing one thing or the other on the car
To cut a long story short, lost my job,no savings,no apartment,no wife and car finally broke down
I'm knw back in my parents house and square one.If I had the choice to do it over again,
Apartment(well furnished),small business,moderate wedding then car.
Pls and Pls listen to me cos I've been dr.
Funny but your pain is felt, but why not apartment first, car, wedding and lastly a small business.

P.S. What didnt work for someone may work for another person, we are all different. So follow your mind, if it lands you into trouble, well, you'll have to try again.
Career › Re: Can I Do Masters In Economics Or Business Adm With My Agric. Extension Degree? by nitrogen(m): 9:09pm On Jun 10, 2012
tanimola22: For MSc Economics at a reputable naija university, you would normally need a PgDip Economics. Besides LBS, many university owned business schools in naija will admit you into their full time MBA programs. My fear, as professionals have consistently echoed on this forum, is that a Master's in Business Admin may not be right for you now.

T22
The truth o bros, because MBA is mostly for experienced people.
NYSC › Re: Ex corpers now in the real world. Welcome guys. Whats next? by nitrogen(m): 8:34pm On Jun 10, 2012
120,000 corpers are passing out next week? Are you serious or joking? Thats an average of 360,000 every year, and at least 330,000 job applicants a year, if this is true then Nigeria is in trouble.

Seriously, i want someone to come and tell (prove to) me that those figures are wrong.
Career › Re: Torn Between A Msc And A MBA by nitrogen(m): 8:24pm On Jun 10, 2012
@egbonlai, do not try the part-time m.sc programme, its always tough to come out with a distinction after the whole thing except you are extraordinary. It wont be easy to work and study at the same time with a distinction as your target.

Career › Re: When Did You Know You'd Be Bagging A 3rd Class (or Pass) ? by nitrogen(m):
I think the feedback thing is necessary, this will aid performance evaluation and in turn initiate the taking of neccesary actions to retract from deviations pathway.

For example, when i was in school, i couldnt access my results for two sessions, that reduced my level of seriousness, when i later got the results, it was something else, thank God it was that of years two and three, the remaining years sha later helped me.

Basically, it is about one's level of seriousness coupled with the educational system that affects one's performance. But, its easy to scale through since there are still firstie students/graduates even with the bad educational system.

Career › Re: Lets Talk About Elitist Nigeria And Myths In Our Education System by nitrogen(m): 2:22pm On Jun 06, 2012
Why not all our polytechnics turned to universities of technology, then the inferiority and superiority complex that exists between graduates of polytechnics and universities will be over.
T'will be this way, after four years, instead of HND certificate, B-tech is awarded while the B.sc and B.ed will still be in existence.
I think thats the simple solution.

Seriously, a nation that is just developing need technologists, but it is sad that our leaders and a host of others doesnt know this(others= stakeholders/employers of labour/entrepreneurs) and only believe that grads from polytechnics are just meant for the menial assignments, basically, they are regarded as 'cheap labour'.
I pity Nigeria.

Career › Re: The Hobby - Work Connection by nitrogen(m): 1:33pm On Jun 05, 2012
keemax: Good morning. Thanks for going through the post.
For today we shall examine what a hobby is. According to the dictionary, a hobby is what you like to do for pleasure.

Since your hobby is a passion of your's, the probability of it's success when you turn it to work will be high. That is what is being promoted here.
I am sure that Tiger Woods initially played golf as a hobby, but when he saw the prospect therein, he turned pro.

What factor plays the major role in your choice of hobby? Let us discuss this. Thanks.
Choose hobby? I think your hobby is part of you, since it is what you do with pleasure and at ease and as you rightly said, maybe what you a passionate about, so it is only for you to locate it (discover what you are passionate about and make it your hobby). And not forgetting that you can have more than one hobbies.
