Religion / Re: The Deception Of Malachi 3:10-11 "Devourer" And "Storehouse" EXPOSED by noblefada: 5:36am On Oct 11, 2013
For those proponents of tithing, I quite understand that it is difficult for u to imagine u've been taught wrongly by great men of God n that 98% of the Pentecostal movement can be wrong. But actually they're because no one can know more than the HS. The simple way the HS settle this issue for those who study n are open to receive, is that He did a very simple thing which to me is actually very funny, You will NEVER see in the bible the mention of tithes in relation to the gentiles or the new creation, never. That simply shows it was never intended for gentiles, because u've nothing to back up the claim. Shalom

Religion / Re: The Deception Of Malachi 3:10-11 "Devourer" And "Storehouse" EXPOSED by noblefada: 5:26am On Oct 11, 2013
Well I'll just pop my head into this tithing issue, I've deliberately avoided it for a very long time because it's a waste of time n this not a forum for brethren to fighting against each other.
That being said, @Goshen I admire your consistent n passion to put forth the truth about tithe, the tenacity u've showed to ensure the word prevails. But as for this ur exposition, I dnt think u got it right on d devourer stuff, because the locusts n insects were figurative and whatever u might say is defeated by the Use of HE and not IT which of course is consistent with the provision of the law.
That being said, are xtians suppose to pay tithe according to the law? NO! a very big No at that.
See we don't need a grandeur exposition or an endless theological thesis to know xtians are not suppose to pay tithes. A simple study on Grace (of which tithing totally negates) n study of the new testament will reveal it. Let me say this, the early gentiles did not know anything called tithes, not from Jesus or the Apostles, even in the Acts 15 account, tithes were not one of the instructions to gentiles.

Do u really believe this shit applies to u? Damn!! How gullible can you be?

Salvation came through the Jews
Who brought the story of sin in the first place?

And did your ancestors ever preach about any salvation? Cause my Ancestors did not, If the Yoruba people needed salvation, the ancient Yoruba would have preached it.

This salvation shit applies only to the Jews, cause only them preached it. you have no business with Jews and their beliefs.

Wait a minute, wat ethnic group do u belong to? I know for a fact that no Nigerian ethnic group preached about any Adam and Eve, or any Saviour coming to deliver them.
I guess this ur advice is coming a bit late, because if salvation was only for the Jews I don't I think I should received the Holy Spirit, but alas I've rocking the Holy Spirit for more than 10 yrs now.

macof: point of correction- what THE JEWS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR years
Again u err, pls read the bible esp the book of Isaiah u'll not only Jews eagerly waited for the messiah, let me just quote one passage Isa 60:3-5 KJV 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising . Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. 5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
Though salvation originated from the Jews, but was made available to all, I'm a partakers and I'm not a Jew.

1. Clinical testing was done in the US
2. Africa has the biggest concentration of malaria in the world.

I wish you clowns would stop making light of this issue. Nearly a million children die of malaria every year. You people should be jumping with joy instead of all this bullcrap FUD.

If you're asking why Africans have lots of malaria cases, why not go and ask whatever deity you believe in?
No the clinical trials were done in Africa. I won't be celebrating just yet, I followed the trials and know a little about malaria, results of trials were not so convincing and the protection is just for about a year. Will keep my fingers cross until 2 yrs after mass deployment.

macof: good. But why do u think Christianity is the only way to God?
Because everything in the bible is about Christ, you guys only see Jesus in NT but he is actually revealed from genesis to malachi, it will amazed you to know that everything about Jesus was already predicted n revealed in the OT, it didn't do anything new, but only fulfill what men have been waiting for years, reconciliation with God. So Jesus did not just wake one day n took it upon himself to save the world, no he had been revealed long long ago.
Again Jesus was not the first to be killed by the Jews because they oppose their way of life, go read the OT, you will see so many, starting from zachariah the priest to Stephen, the first martyr of Christ n James the brother of John

so is the bible the only thing that preaches "love ur neighbour as yourself"?
1Co 1:20-25 NET 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish? For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching. For Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom, but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles. But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
See we've been through this part severally, whatever answers we give, u guys will call it irrational, so what else do you expect?!

@AK 48:
You have spoken well,as did the OP. However, I had to stifle a smile reading through your posts. The way you have done your calculations is the way business neophytes do their calculations and end up with unreasonable expectations of profit.

Is there corruption in the universities? Of course! But it is not more than at the level in other sectors, and nope, it isn't the real cause of the problem at hand. The real cause is simple: proper tertiary education is *bloody* expensive, and this being Nigeria, nobody wants to pay for it. Not the government, which seems bent of washing its hands of all responsibilities; Not the students and parents who, lament that our universities are not in the same league with the Harvards, while conveniently forgetting that proper education anywhere (even Ghana!) costs much more than they are paying for it!

There are a number of points I can make about your posts, but as I am writing for an audience that seems to hate reading anything longer than a paragraph, the following will suffice:

- OP: so you think that when a student pays N10,000 for hostels, most of it is profit? Who pays for the electricity of your student who views the use of a hot plate as a birth right? Who pays the cleaners and other support staff? Hostel warden etc? How much do you suppose it takes to maintain a building? If you've never built one, consult those who have; you will be surprised, especially when the inhabitants of that building are students. How much does it cost to maintain transformers, supplying the hostel? etc. etc. There are many things you overlooked. If you want to know how much a bed space *actually* costs, go and find out how much commercial spaces outside campus go for. By simple laws of demand and supply, that is closer to what a student's space costs. I can bet you my seized salary that it is not N10,000.
@prof femi thank you for your comments and effort to educate some NLders. The comments I see here from supposedly undergraduates just tells how bad our education system is. They fail to understand that university education is very expensive, and turn blind eyes when private and foreign universities charge an upwards of 450k - 12 million naira per session, of which only a small fraction is spent on salaries, with majority spent on infrastructures and research, getting the latest technology or equipment to improve teaching and research. Let me ask this question, do you guys know how many Phd students and post doc go outside this country simply because our universities don't have adequate tools for their research? just smh @ comments, thats how a 300L student doesn't know the difference btw teaching & lecturing and 70% of commentators agreeing with him! just sad
Religion / Re: Why Was Sunday Choosen As The Sabath Day And Not Saturday? by noblefada: 11:04am On Oct 07, 2013
As much as it is not so important to dwell on issues that have no bearing on our faith or spiritual life, but since its an honest question, I'll say few words. What I going to say now, I just got to understand them from the scriptures just few days ago.
I have once thought about it (why we meet on Saturday and not Sunday), but not so much, because its doesn't add or remove from my salvation, which is one salient point I would love the OP to take seriously.
The Sabbath day was first observed by God in Gen 2, but was not observed again from that time through the time Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, until the time of the giving of the law. The Sabbath day was simply figurative of Salvation by Grace through Christ as well explained in Heb chapters 3 to 10. But it became a law to the children of Israel as an ordinance, so Israel were made to observed the Sabbath day as a law, but we're under Grace and so we're not mandated to keep the Sabbath day, but as I earlier said it has already been fulfilled in Christ Jesus Gal 3 & 4.
Now why do we worship on Sundays? As you know Sunday is the 1st day of the week, I discover from scriptures that it was a practise of Paul among the early gentile churches for them to meet and fellowship with the word and one another, this I believe was because the Sabbath was already dedicated to the Jewish traditional worship and he didn't want to cause any division among them and also wanted the Jews to partake in is teaching meetings. Below are bible references: Act 20:7 KJV And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
1Co 16:2 KJV Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. So I believe this tradition just continued over the ages in the Churches. Shalom

barefootbandit:
I am sorry if anyone doubts my sincerity in finding the truth, but the fact that I am questioning some passages in the bible should prove I am earnestly seeking after truth.

The original Hebrew scriptures of 2 Samuel claim Elhanan killed Goliath, not his brother or anyone else. The addition was made during the English translation to avoid controversy, not after an investigation as to who really killed Goliath.

As to what was written in the chronicles, well I will first of all like to say that it is most likely that the writer of the Chronicles copied a great deal from the scriptures of Samuel. Therefore it is believed that he constructed the name "Lahmi" from beit-ha' lahmi, the Hebrew word for Bethlehem.

Therefore instead of "Elhanan the son of Jaare the Bethlehemite killed Goliath" as it originally was in 2 samuel, he smartly changed it to "Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath".

Besides, Lahmi is a Hebrew name. Goliath was from the philistines, therefore his brother must have been from there too. Why should his brother, from the philistines, bear a Hebrew name?

And so I think it is more likely that the writer of the chronicles, trying to avoid controversy and uphold the status of David, and at the same time trying to have a clear conscience, somehow convinced himselfs that there was a mistake somewhere and concluded that it was Lahmi, name gotten from the nearest word around, and who was the non-existent brother of Goliath, that was killed.

You see reading the bible for yourself will help a lot, your see the family of goliath were a family of giants, I decided to quote the whole chapter for you to see this:
1Ch 20:1-8 KJV 1 And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it. 2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city. 3 And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem. 4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued. 5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver's beam. 6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the giant. 7 But when he defied Israel,I Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him. 8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
David and his men were responsible for wiping them out.
