Montreal est trop bruyant pour moi ayant vécu à Lagos tout au long de ma vie. Je cherche maintenant une vie tranquille et paisible où je peux éléver mes petits sans beaucoup de décadence sociale. Sherbrooke me les donne .

J'ai appris le français au Nigéria, je suis titulaire de maîtrise en langue , culture et civilisation française . J'enseigne FLE aussi. Mais, cette fois-ci, je suis à Sherbrooke pour mon programme doctorat en éducation.

@Nogen welcome to Canada. Initially the kindness strangers would show to you would come as a shock, like scary at first but you get used to it and then pay it forward. $525!! Quebec is really cheap oh.

My sister! Scary is an understatement. Life in Quebec seems cheaper . Sherbrooke is so calm like you live in Enugu/Jos kind of life but you have to speak French. You really can't do much here without French. I came back to see my husband and a hotel staff who came to tidy up our room struggling to communicate. As soon as the lady sighted me, she heaved a sign of relief! She was a like, "We have been struggling to communicate. Your husband doesn't speak French and me, I don't speak English. Two of us suddenly turned to deaf and dumb using only hands and legs". I laughed so hard.

Meeen! The cold got a better part of me yesterday. I came back exhausted!

My house hunt yesterday took an interesting turn. I saw an advert on kijiji about a fully furnished apartment for 750$ a month. In my mind, it's a great deal. I took a taxi to the apartment and I wasn't satisfied. Na wao for these Canadians , they said fully furnished but I met nearly empty apartment. 2 dirty sofas in the living room, cooker, fridge , Internet. That's all. Is this what I will pay 750$ monthly? No space for my kids to play except I take them to a nearby park.

I left the place to a second apartment , managed by the same agent. A 3 and half , better than the first one at 550 dollars a month. Has 2 dirty sofas again. I looked at the environment and said maybe we could manage this.

I then went to look for Service Canada office to obtain my Social Security number. The house agent took me to the mall instead. God works in mysterious ways. I used the opportunity to buy a few things we needed . Was about to call a taxi when my phone went flat. I saw a black guy sitting somewhere in the mall. I approached him and begged him to please call me a taxi that my phone was flat. He asked where I was going to. I told him. He brought out his phone and the next thing he said, " Come , let me drop you off to the place" I was scared. He sensed that and quickly introduced himself as a Malian and asked me where I came from. I said I'm Nigerian. He was perplexed! A Nigerian in Sherbrooke ? You guys go to Toronto and the Anglophone provinces not French!

Then I became relaxed and he took me there. We got talking and he got to know about my house search. He waited for me to get my Number and he then took me to his Caretaker after introducing me to his wife and 2 children. I became totally comfortable. He brought me back to the hotel , met my husband and children. An hour later, he came back and picked me up to see the apartment the Caretaker spoke about earlier.

I fell in love immediately! It has all that I asked for. Large space at the back and at the front, a garage, a storage facility outside, 2 large bedrooms, a modern cooker, big fridge, heater, hot water and a serene environment and I even have a small garden. 5 minutes walk to the Mall, 2 mins walk to an elementary school and a Daycare center. It also came cheaper at 525 dollar a month. The only thing is that we can't move in until the 3rd of January and I have to pay 35 dollars a month for electricity.

He agreed to be my guarantor and the wife is taking me to stores where I can buy stuffs for the apartment at a reasonable rate. He is coming this morning to take me to the Landlord and sign the contract. He is an Angel sent by God to help me at this very critical point in my life. God really works in mysterious ways.

Thanks. For now, they are preschoolers and we would pay fees if we send them to a Daycare. Of course, they have to go. I think it is also subsidized. Going to visit the one close the the apartment we want to get on the 2nd. They have fantastic offers for the children and it is bilingual too. From 5 years, they can attend Primary school free.

Air Maroc isn't that bad after all. The only complaint is the long hours one has to stay at the Casablanca airport before departure. But we tried to make use of the kids playground at the airport. My children had something to distract them for hours.

We left our home at 11pm on the 25th December because we didn't want to take the risk of going to the airport at 2am. At 2:30 am, check in commenced and we had 10 luggage checked in..

We moved over to the lounge to wait for boarding. Caught some sleep and at 5am/5.30am, boarding started. I have 3 super active 2 year old. It was their 1st time flying as toddlers. They cried and wailed for about 3 hours to Casablanca. They couldn't be pacified. We did everything except spanking. Maybe , we should have. It was not a good experience. As babies, on our way from the US via Delta Airline, they were the most behaved babies. In fact, the flying crew gave them presents. They didn't cry at all. They simply ate and slept. But with Air Maroc, they gave my husband and I , the disgrace of our life. The crew even had the audacity to tell us to start training them well. Kai! I have suffered!

Before we left for Canada, I took them one by one to the Toilets and gave them stern warning. If they disgrace us one more time, they will certainly have it hot with me. I was done with the cries and wails. As if they listened, our 7 and half hours flight to Montreal was lit. They were well behaved. They watched some animated movies and probably, if we had that in the Lagos to Casablanca flight, they would have been calm. They ate, drank , watched movies, coloured their animated booklet and the flight was a smooth one. Phewww!

At the point of entry, we used the electronic machine to sign in and then moved to the Officer for us to be stamped in. Then , as soon as I brought out my children's Blue passports, one overzealous officer began to question how I got them! Can you imagine? Was I living in the US? How come I gave birth there with a visiting Visa? In all, I was calm because I didn't sneak into the US to use their Health Facilities. I told her I was carrying triplets and wanted the best medical care I could get. I had a visiting visa then. She interrupted me: "So, you decided to use it to give birth as of I was just visiting the US!" I said No! Before I became pregnant, I have traveled so many times to the US. When pregnancy came, I wrote the Embassy informing them of my intention to use the visa for delivery and they replied that I could go ahead and make sure I paid my bills which I did. Would that be an offense? She then kept quiet! She stamped us in and then directed us to where I would get my study permit.

While I was on the queue at Immigration point 2, an officer asked to see our passports. I gave her. She asked if the children are leaving Canada within 6 months, I said No. They are staying with me all through my studies. She sent us back to Immigration point 1 to collect another form. They should have given us the form over there. I went back but this time around, a male officer attended to us. He was the opposite of the female officer who initially attended to us. He was kind and took his time to prepare the documents for the kids. They were given study permits too that would last as long as mine. I was so much in a hurry to get our luggage that I forgot to get my Social security number or something like that. Will be getting it today or tomorrow.

At the baggage claim, we saw 9 out of our 10 luggage. We went to loge a complain but Air Maroc stand was empty. We were asked to call their number. We then moved to catch our Airport shuttle to Sherbrooke. It was about 2 and half hours journey from Montréal. It's a beautiful and calm town. Our shuttle took us to the Hotel where we are still at waiting to rent an apartment. Would be seeing one today and most likely going to rent it. A 2 bedroom fully furnished with everything from Internet to TV to everything. We just take our luggage and ourselves in. Then , we can move in comfortably. 

I also opened an account yesterday with RBC which was recommended by one of the receptionists at the hotel. They don't charge on student's account. So, I'm cool with that. I also went to the Mall to buy a Sim card. Settled with Fido because they were the only company willing to give me a Sim without my social security number . They used my Study permit Code , International Passport and Student Visa. 

For the missing luggage, ( it was the suitcase that contains our local food, my Garri, semo, ogbono, crayfish, powder pap, etc . All the flours and blended food stuffs were kept their to avoid rupture. It is an echolac suitcase) I called the number I got from the airport, was advised to go to their Facebook page to send my complaint. Which I did and an administrator took it up. I got a message from him last night asking me.to go to the airport and pick up my luggage. It was found and kept for me. 

For the missing luggage, I have had a missing luggage issue with Delta, Air France and KLM and I didn't go about thrashing them on social media. Those suitcases were eventually found and I picked them up at Lagos Airport. There's nothing wrong with Air Maroc, people just like to follow crowd and lose objectivity! Their food from Casablanca to Montreal was good too. My children enjoyed it (Fish and vegetable). The crew was nice too but can't say so with the Lagos to Casablanca crew. They were not so nice maybe they were irritated by my children's behavior but they are 2 year olds for crying out loud. One even said something nasty in French, not knowing I speak French..I told her never to repeat that in her life! She was shocked. Aside that, anyone who wishes to fly them, can go ahead. If I don't use them again, it would be because of the long wait not because of their services.

Please if u don't mind my prying, why Sherbrooke? Hearing it for the first time. What makes it so great? Will you work there or do you expect to commute to Toronto? Or is housing cheap? Pray tell.

One , I have this bad habit of not following the crowd. Two, I'm into French a lot. So, my PhD in Education will be taught in French . Thesis is also in French. Three, the school is among the best in Canada in terms of Postgraduate studies .
4. I don't like big cities . Want some cool place for my studies jare. When I'm done with my studies, will then decide if I want to stay or not. For now, it's all about my studies.

Hi i used them to the UK last year. The in flight entertainment to Casablanca was no it at all. However you will change planes in Casablanca to a bigger one so maybe better entertainment.
Food: i loved their food as my only other flight experience is Kenyan Airways.
Airport : The airport is lovely ,lots of fast food joints and places to eat and wait. My kids had a good time .
Also the kids will get play toys and a bag with puzzle and drawing books. You will get blankets ask immediately you get in.

That's what i would most likely use when am relocating too

Hi.. if it's Sherbrooke in Montreal you mean.. concerning transport, the transport system is very efficient in Montreal. Almost everywhere is connected to the underground metro.. Metro (comes every 3-5mins) is more reliable than buses although the buses are also efficient. I totally enjoyed using the metro.. McGill metro station is the largest with lots of shopping outlets, restaurants, currency exchange etc all underground. There's a metro station just in front of University of Sherbrooke. With a single transport card, you will have full access to the metro and the bus. There're discounts for students and youths. I don't know how true it is but my friend (a student) says Montreal's transport system is second to none in Canada. Montreal made me fall in love with Canada sha.. I over explored the city using the efficient metro and my darling Google map. Got lost on few occasions

I used Air Marroc and the flight was ok.. Long but ok.

From Lagos to Casablanca, there was no inflight entertainment but there flight is 4:30hrs.

I had a 7 hours lay over at Casablanca and we were taking to a lounge. The lounge is ok. There are beds, Couches and free WiFi ( sit at the dining area to get good WiFi service).
I was also served food at the lounge so hunger no kill me.

From Casablanca to Montreal you get inflight entertainment because it's a bigger plane.

You'd probably clear immigration at Montreal and if your final destination is Ottawa, I suggest you take the bus from the airport to Ottawa at 12 am rather than spend the night at the airport.

Overall my experience with Air Marroc was good and I have no problems flying them again.

Used to flying Klm, Air France, Virgin Atlantic, Delta and Emirates. But when I look at the amount of money we would be saving , it makes so much sense. It can pay about 1 year house rent for us in Canada. Also, my POE is Montréal, my base.

Those who have used Air Maroc here, please I need your reviews. Na your own I go believe. Lol. How's their service, in flight entertainment, the Casablanca airport? Thanks as i await your responses.

Hi Family!

How are you all? my travel experience.

So it was 12:15am 14 Dec, & I was en route to MMIA, got there, took pics & had fun with family members, till security checks & check in started, my 2 luggages didn't weigh above 23kg was glad, asked what I was carrying I sincerely responded, & I was told to remove red oil, did that, got my boarding pass after, immediately it was departure time we were on board the plane, was fun seating with a Yor. woman whose final destination was New York, we took off & it was a smooth journey from Lagos to Casablanca, was wondering people's negative remark on Air Maroc, but to me the were a very perfect choice, food served well at every due time, so wonderful. Landed at Casablanca like in 3hrs 30mins time, communication was hard as french & arabic is widely spoken there, food given was funny though, I had to eat it, stayed & waited for my flight to Montreal by 17:30, when it was time, we took off to Montreal, wasn't a full load, we were few, sat alone in my row, it was quite a smooth long journey, landed at montreal late in the night & it was a beauty to behold, nice place, everyone got profiled (security update) but it was crazily cold all through the night, got my study permit after answering some questions from CBSA, claimed my luggages & chilled somewhere around, joined my connecting flight from Montreal to Fredericton in the morning, it was a funny flight experience, even the white lady who sat beside me, thanked me for praying before departure,, thankGod in less than 1 hour we landed, & it was a dead extreme cold moment to witness, see me & cold with all the dressing. got picked home together with a friend I met at montreal by a Nig guy who was sent by a wonderful guy I met here, got home & it was a beautiful but cold atmosphere, connected to the internet for communication, driven to malls to buy things I needed by the nice guy here, they are wonderful, still managing the cold..no be here, settling down quickly, got Nigerian & other Nationals here who are very cool & nice. I must say RAM isn't as bad as people paint it. On this note, I welcome myself to Canada & thank you all for ur help in this move.

I must confess that God's hands is upon you and your family. I haven't come across this in my entire life, TRV approved within 3 working days. What a speed!

Congratulations Ms. Nogen and to your lovely Husband. I wish you both the best over there in Canada, go and represent us well. As for we the hopefuls, we tap to your testimony.

Thanks. He's returning back to Naija in January. At least, I have an adult to help me with the kids during the transit and he will help us get a decent accommodation before he returns to his job in Naija. By then, the kids are already registered in a Daycare. I can now focus on my studies . All the best to those who are waiting on their TRV.

TRV approved in 3 days!!!

My husband visit visa just got approved in 3 days !!! We initially applied on the 24th of November and he was refused on the 1st of Dec. It was our fault because we didn't do somethings right , especially with documentation to prove he is returning after some weeks.

He was refused based on Travel history, Assets (Home Ties). He is a very busy person that even when he got a visa years back, he didn't use it. He never really likes travelling. Lol. Then, we didn't include documents to show his 4 landed property in Nigeria, his shares, etc.

He reapplied on the 8th of Dec with copies of deeds of assignments on his 4 property , his shares certificates in about 11 companies, power of attorney on clients property he is managing, listed all the major companies and individuals he is servicing as a solicitor and attorney. He made a reservation at a hotel in the city we are going to. The document was also attached.


Then , he enclosed a Letter of Explanation to address his lack of travel history, why he needs to travel with us, his home ties . I tried to get someone to help with his letter as Oga hardly had time that period. The person asked me to pay 20k! 20k, for SOP? He was even asking that we postpone our travel date! That we wouldn't get a visa that soon. Hian! Like he is the one giving the TRV. I totally called his bluff and went ahead with my plans. Some of us here are beginning to act like God.

Anyway, when Oga returned from work, I told him about the situation. He said he will create time to write it. I shouldn't pay a dime to anyone. 1am on the day he submitted his application, we got up, while I helped him fill his application online, he wrote a beautiful piece and addressed every concern of the VO one after the other . I then helped him type it out, printed and arranged his documents one after the other. In fact, we didn't sleep that night. We finished by 7 am and began to prepare for work. Both of us driving to our offices. We just advised each other to avoid any long distance driving that could make us sleep on the steering.

Now, my mind is at peace. Been cracking my head on how to handle 3 active toddlers on this journey alone. Also, how to cope till I get a permanent accommodation. At least, he will sort us out and help us settle in well before he returns to his job in January.

Note: Believe in yourself, in as much as you seek advise from the 'gurus' here, trust your instinct, believe you can also do the task. There are people here who would genuinely help you without collecting a dime. Some have turned it a business venture. That's why I always commend Maziude. He never asked for a dime. In fact, he helped me at some point post a document to Quebec with his money. I haven't met him physically and I look forward to doing that. My husband and I can't wait to see him in Canada. After the approval and submitting my passport, I was contacted to submit the old and expired passport which I used in the application so I did that on Friday.
Ticket price keeps hicking daily.i am skired that to my destination it is like 1m as at today.
Can I book a ticket today even when I haven’t gotten the visa or you advise I wait till I get the visa and the price keeps hicking.
��Funny enough,since the approval I have been checking my cic account to confirm I can still see the approval and the letter to submit the passport.not because I am a doubting Thomas but I presume the canada immigration are just trying to be organize.
So please contribute so I make a decision from there....
