Definitely on the right thread. Waiting is not easy, but still keep faith alive! Mine is 6 month (April 3rd) and still no news, tough medical passed. I pray our expectations all come to fulfillment soonest.

In my opinion, for those who is about to apply for SOWP, I feel they should consider applying for Visiting visa and get their open work permit when they land as long as they can fulfil the requirements for it. Its takes a short time duration and one will still arrive at the same result.

From recent experience, my sister-in-law applied for visiting in may, she landed and after awhile went back to the airport(point of entry) to get her work permit. Another person share the same news too, she had a visiting visa, got married, travelled with the husband back to CA and got work permit too.

Wished I knew about that route earlier than this SOWP route. Tough I will still say some people are luck and still get SOWP approval in a short while, but from statistics on this thread it usually far exceed the processing time stated.

I pray God to open a book of remembrance on our applications and favour it with approvals in Jesus name. Amen
How did she go about getting the open work permit? Could you kindly share with us?

My driver's license is still in paper form since Dec 2017. i don't have the card yet and they keep saying it's not ready yet. So i think getting an International Drivers license will be better for me.
Any idea who issues it?

Goingforward.
Send me a pm, when i am off lectures this evening, will find out from hubby how he got me the one i used in the US 3 years ago.

Hi Nairalanders,

Still waiting for my hubby's approval. It will end in praises and thanksgiving in Jesus name.
However, we got an update yesterday for Medical passed for all of us meanwhile passport is already with the Visa office. cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin grin.

Please, I want to ask, does anyone have an idea how to go about getting an International Drivers license in Nigeria?
Is it okay to land Canada on a weekend? say Saturday or Sunday. For people that have landed, was it better landing on weekday or a weekend?. I have plenty load. smiley

Thanks in advance.

goingforward
congrats on your visa application success . You can drive with your r Nigerian drivers license here. But in the absence of this, you can procure an international one.

@Cherryola, I would like to chip in something here. You said you have an OND, why don't you at least get a first degree in Nigeria and then proceed to Canada for your Masters. Trust me, a lot of things would improve with you by the time you are done with your first degree. The VO consistently do not see you as a genuine student considering the years of study gap you have as well as the fact you didn't have a paid job until recently. A lot of things are not working in your favour right now but you can correct those if you could at least go for your first degree in Nigeria or Ghana, then apply for a postgraduate degree in Canada when you are done.

All the best!

Some province will require to get a letter from the Nigeria high commission for the processing.
Just take your naija drivers license and the Nigeria high commission will issue a letter based on the date of issue on the drivers license to attest your experience.
The two will get you a license in canada
Hello Sir/ma'am. I am interested in this conversation. I drive with my Nigerian driver's license here because I was told Foreign students are allowed to drive with their country valid driver's license. So, a student can formally apply for a Canadian driver's license without being a permanent resident?

Been miles away. Congrats to those who have landed in Cannyland and may the land favour us all.
I have been very busy with studies and homefront, my parents have gone back to Naija since July and hubby came in for his vacation. At the point of entry, his passport was stamped PR. He quickly informed them he is on a visit not a permenant resident. Funny experience.

You guys outside Quebec really pay so much on rent. I couldn't believe my eyes as I saw some comments on renting a 3 bedroom appartment between $1300 to $1700. While I pay for the same 3 bedroom here for $795 per month.

Success to us all in our endeavours.

Madam MrsDaniels,

As long as you're back to Nigeria and not applying directly from England. You're meant to undergo a medical test in Nigeria prior to a visa is issued to you by the consular officer. The rule of not requesting for a medical exam is only applicable to prospective applicants applying from England not Nigeria.

I hope this piece of info helps to provide perspicuity to other applicants that are in same condition.
This information is wrong. Go back and read the cic info on medical examination for applicants who have not stayed up to 6 months in Nigeria from Europe, the USA and their likes.

French exam needed for migration to Canada. You and Nogen are the Canadian French speakers I know of. The others in the Living in Canada thread do not seem to be speakers (I hope I am wrong, the more help the better).

Quite a lot of people need to take French in order to boost their points for migration. I am asking for tips on learning French and encouragement for people.

P.S. @mazuide also wrote that he is learning though he has not come online for a while.
Hello,
Please go to any Alliance française in your state. If you are in Lagos, go to their office at Sabo Yaba for further enquiries.

I was in that court live. It was so heart breaking seeing the poor boy just break down like that. I even felt like crying for him. I pity am sha but I can't blame him. The country is so hard anyone would do anything for money. After judgement was passed, we whisked him away to a different location to remand him in our custody. I really wish he could be given a second chance at life. He doesn't deserve this treatment at all.
Are you for real?

Thanks and God bless.
It must be translated in English or French language. These are the official languages of the Canadian government.

May I please ask a question, I just received my CAQ from Quebec to study in Concordia university for postgraduate studies. However, considering the the time frame for visa processing, we are thinking of deferring the admission. In this case, please do I still go ahead and submit my application for visa and write to the school. Is it also possible to attach my deferral letter after I have submitted my visa application. Good job, you guys are doing over here.
Don't defer. Still apply

You don't have to speak French to teach in Canada.
However, been a bilingual or speaking French outside of Quebec is an asset that is in demand and will set you above the crowd.
There is a huge demand for teachers in French schools in Ontario. I believe the starting salary is 65K and after 3 years it goes up to 100K. They are always hiring.

Please keep in mind that if you only speaks English and that you aren't getting a teaching job, you may always registered with a school board as a substitute teacher. The school board has jurisdiction over many schools. When one of the teachers in a given school had called in sick for the day, the school board will call a substitute teacher to fill in for the day.

As for your first question, I am a Network analyst.
Ontario, here I come.

I barb my son's hair and I plait my daughters' hair too. Nice hair cut and beautiful braids for that matter. Never done those until I came to Canada. In Lagos, I would take them to Downtown salon but here, no way, spending dollars on hair cut and braids? No way, I became an expert overnight.

Thanks for the prompt response bro.

Yea, i am working towards increasing my budget.

Based on your experience, how much would jobs pay hourly? and am i likely to land a job as soon as i arrive?

Apart from sustenance, one of my reasons for working is to enable me gather Canadian working experience to give me an edge in landing better jobs after my programme.

What do you think?
Firstly, I am not a bro. Secondly, landing a job as a first timer is not so easy. But you will eventually get but no so easy at first.

Hello guys,

i am gunning for an MBA degree in Memorial University Newfoundland (MUN) primarily because it has one of the cheapest tuition in Canada at 2k+ per semester and over 6k per session.

But i have some reservations tho:

How likely am i to get a job within or outside the campus to sustain me while i school?
Even though i already mapped out 4m for this project, working alongside wont be a bad idea

Also, in the fees brochure, they wrote that payment is made every semester. Does that mean i will pay for just one semester, and of course other fees and charges, befoe coming over?

One of their admission requirements is a GMAT score. How much would it cost me to write a GMAT exam now and how often is it written?

They requested for a minimum result of 2.75 on a 4 point scale. Converting it to 5 pointb scale is 3.43. i doubt my CGP is up to that. What will be my fate?

I will appreciate your experiences responses.

Thanks.

Well done Bro. But 4m for an MBA won't be enough. Working here can help you pay for accommodation and feeding but never our school fees. You can't work more than 20hrs during school session. MBA fee is usually expensive.
