I expected that you would shift the goalpost and you didn't disappoint me.
What is your level of education? Because you do understand the macro economic profile of country including its productive industries plays a huge part in its credit rating and cost of borrowing?

Please tell me why does Nigeria have a worse credit rating than the US? Why is debt cheaper for the US?

Economic growth is a key factor is determining a nation’s credit rating, this is based on the performance of industry in that country. America has some world leading companies driving economic growth. This factor is very much part of the conversation on debt and credit ratings...

Mtchew Nigerians my people their own worst enemies...

Those Companies you listed are having a Bad time, and they are clearly not going to be able to pay 22trillion dollars USA debt
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/facebook-apple-amazon-netflix-google-lose-value-of-saudi-arabia-2018-11
That is irrelevant... Even the mere perception of being able to finance the debt is enough. Hence why a US gov bond offering will still be more popular than a Nigerian one...

Also you haven’t acknowledged that debt is far cheaper for the US as it has a better credit rating than Nigeria.. This again reflects investor confidence on the likelihood of a US default vis a vis a Nigerian one.

You can argue as much as you like, at the end of the day no one wants to get into Nigeria to live, whereas millions want to immigrate to the US...

Even look at China a recently industrialised country, how much debt does China have?? You remind why Nigeria is poor, the leadership is a reflection of an ignorant population...

Thank god I have the option to live in the west...

forget all those companies their real total assets is not up to $2trillion dollar. american debt can never be repaid
It doesn't need to, as long as the possibility of default is remote.

Nigeria by comparison is nowhere near as solvent. A decade long slump in oil prices would be enough to tip the Nigerian economy into crisis.

That is the difference. I think you fell asleep in economics class..

Nairaland is full of Ignorant fools and illiterates, it is very hard to see a sensible comment on Nairaland, reading comments on Nairaland Usually irritate me and the funniest thing is that they all think they are making sense and they know better grin when in Reality they are just showing their stupidity, ignorance, Hatred and illiteracy. USA owe China Trillion of Dollars, the total Amount of Money the top ten countries owe China is not even up to 100 Billions and they started Wailing and Calling their Country and Continent all sort of names, if you are insulting your country and you are crying because your country owe China 4.5 billion dollars that a single person can pay off in Nigeria, then what should USA Citizens call their country for owing China Trillions of Dollars? grin . 70% of Nigerians are just ignorant and Educated illiterates
Listen to this mumu..

You realise that the US has productive world leading industry that will ultimately help them pay down their debt.

Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook and Tesla are world beating companies bringing billions of dollars into the US.

Nigeria by contrast only has oil. If the oil price drops we have limited means of paying debt down. At the same time we don't even have a sovereign wealth fund to see us through the economic bad times..

Debt for the western nations is manageable to a limited degree. Although some say the hugely indebted countries like Britain and US with the so called Anglo Saxon model will have to face down the debt problem in the future. They also have relatively good ratings from agencies like moodys and the Standard and Poor meaning that debt is cheap. Nigeria does not have a great credit rating so debt is expensive.

As a major oil producer with a relatively well educated and hardworking population Nigeria shouldn't really need to borrow at all.

I am afraid you are the one with a limited understanding of economics...

The US has the largest debts in the world. Followed by the UK.
They have productive industries outside of oil that will help them pay down their debt...

The hypocrisy of Nigerians is astounding..

Fake shock in a country where leaders bleep their own son's wives...

Where certain women are more than happy to be side pieces to powerful men..

Nigeria abeg.. angry

Car TalkRe: Does Innoson Manufacture Or Just Assemble Cars? by nograv: 7:10pm On Feb 05, 2019
The issue isnt around assembly...

The issue is whether Innosson designs the cars it manufactures.

It does not, so while it is a manufacturer, it is not a true car maker as it does not design its' own vehicles.

That isnt to say what Innosson does isnt impressive. Nigeria will get there. As the saying goes Rome wasnt built in a day..

We now have people floating around thinking that this world began with Internet.
Bros, it is a real shame, but students are not to blame. It is our leaders who don’t care for history or tradition and only lining their pockets who caused this..

Was it not Jonathan who removed history from the school curriculum?

Always saddens me that Nigerians don’t even know their own history...

Here is drawing of Benin City by Dapper a Dutch Explorer in 1688!!

History is written by the victors, so much so that Nigerians don’t even know that we had well organised cities with well ordered streets and squares. Multi storey buildings were recorded in Benin City, sadly now lost as the city was burned down by the British..

Please remember that Benin City was at its height in the 12th Century!!

I have to agree with those in favor of capitalism. Socialism is the ideology of dreamers not realists.

All developing countries that tried socialism stunted their economies. India being the most notable example. As soon as India abandoned its socialist policies, millions were lifted out of poverty in the following decade..

China is another example, it abandoned the planned economy for the free market and lifted 300 million han chinese out of poverty in 3 decades..

While I understand the need to redistribution Capitalism is the best means we have for organising an economy so far..

How do Nigerians expect these kinds to move them forward in a period of rapid global economic advancement as seen in countries all over the world except African countrieshuh Just how please . We the youths keep displaying religious and ethnic bigotry in very serious issues. How gullible have the masses become? We age everyday yet without any tangible earnings, talk more of savings yet people pile up every day under rain and sun to support these blind leaders who care less about them. Your parents are even better off, at least they served the country as youngs albeit left in their old age to struggle for their pensions which often times they die doing this. Think about yourself, think about your old age when you won't have no government handouts as pensions. Then your bones are weak and you have no pensions, no savings, no investments , no support, no insurance and no hope. Make hay while the sun lasts. Say no to bigotry of any sort, make the best of choices in the forthcoming elections. Do not give in to ethnic or religious bigotry.
Fine words, I wish the Northern elites in particular followed suit. With government appointments based on merit not kinship.

Until the people at the top change, the general population wont change...

Sure

Economics and Politics Durham University (currently ranked 6th in the UK university rankings)

Computer Science MSc Imperial College London (currently ranked 3rd in the UK university rankings)

https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings

I don't have a PH'D but I assure you, most institutions would look more favourably on my degrees than Mr Sanusi's

Re Mr Sanusi

Dundee University is ranked 31st in the UK
De Montfort University is ranked at 70th in the UK

In short there is no comparison between the institutions he and I attended. Mine are all top 10 his aren't!!!!

Let get down to experience...

I have weathered Western Racism to work at the following institutions

Deloitte
UBS
JP Morgan
New York Stock Exchange

Before leaving to found my own firm, so I don't need a job.

Again Mr Sanusi by comparison has NO prior experience. I have worked in finance in the west for over a decade. I have had to learn how to manage tax returns and manage my company the hard way.

This is the issue with Nigeria, were I to go up again Mr Sanusi for that job, I would lose to him because I don't have connections. Why? because little in Nigeria is based on merit.

I am half Igbo and half Yoruba. I respect hierarchy and tradition because of the Yoruba values from my mother's family. But I understand the intense need for meritocracy from my hard headed competitive Igbo father. Northerners in general do not respect meritocracy, abhor true competition and Mr Sanusi's appointment reflects that..

As other posters pointed out, why is it us Southerners who have to leave the country to make our way? While Northerners hog oil blocks they didn't earn and government postshuh

Please...

bloggers have started again with their unconfirmed current affairs
My friend I have family in Ikoyi and Lekki. We are one of the few families who have amassed wealth through hard work and that alone.

I assure you the reason for my scepticism is because first hand I have observed the majority of wealthy Nigerians have accrued their money by connection and corruption.

When you meet a man driving a Bentley, yet he is hesistant to explain what he does or better yet his explanation makes no sense; then patronage is the answer.

I remember speaking to wannabe slay queen in a VI bar. She said to me "you dont work in the oil industry" I asked how she knew. She said" you are still here spending, most of the oil guys are gone because oil is low at the moment". Nigeria...

Look if this man has earned his spot, more grease to his elbow. But I doubt it and we cannot continue like this a country.

If the wrong man or woman is in a role, then the given project he or she works on is more likely to fail. That translates into less jobs and less money in the country..
