The management of DAAR Communications PLC has reacted to publications in some newspapers and in the social media to the effect that AIT is barred from the coverage of the activities of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement, the management expressed its displeasure by quoting section 22 of the constitution, which says the press, radio, television and other agencies of the mass media shall at all times be free to uphold the responsibility and accountability of the Government to the people. DAAR management therefore considers it a worrisome development if security and family concern are used as a justification for censoring AIT or any other media organization from covering and reporting the activities of the President-elect, his incoming administration or any other public officer. It therefore states categorically that the allegation of security issues against DAAR Communications is not an issue that the appropriate security agencies should view lightly. The management wants this incident appropriately investigated adding that it has never been involved in any security activities that will compromise State institutions whatsoever. The management looks forward to a progressive and healthy relationship with the incoming administration and hope that the rights and freedom of the media shall not be impeded in the discharge of our collective duties and responsibilities. The statement barring AIT was credited to Mallam Shehu Garba, the Director of media, Buhari campaign organization. http://aitonline.tv/post-daar_official_reaction |

An average Igboman thinks about his development and progress while an average yorubaman thinks about the Igboman. Quite pathetic. |

Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI, yesterday threatenedcourt action over the May 23 date set for local government election in Rivers State. GDI is the campaign body for the governor-elect in the state, Nyesom Wike. Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RISIEC, had on Monday announced it would conduct local government elections on May 23, this year. Chairman of RISIEC, Prof.Augustine Ahiazu, who made the announcement in Port Harcourt, said the election would take place in all the councils, except Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. Ahiazu had maintained that the commission was relying on the State Independent Electoral Law No.2 of 2001 as amended and State Local Government Law No.3 of 1999 as amended, to conduct the poll. Ahiazu said political parties were eligible to sponsor candidates for the election if they were able to complete and submit their expression of interest forms before April 24. But President-General of GDI, Bright Amaewhule, described the position of RISIEC as illegal, adding that the electoral body was expected to give a 90-day notice to political parties before the council election. Explaining that fixing election date by RISIEC without following due process was the handiwork of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Amaewhule vowed that GDI would challenge the development incourt. He said it was wrong for an election to be fixed without considering the 90 days notice given by law to allow political parties prepare for the exercise, adding that with the position of RISIEC, political parties would not have time for screening and primaries for aspirants. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/group-kicks-as-amaechi-fixes-council-poll/ |

vivalavida:moreover most homes in the east have mosquito nets at the window. But in South West states like oshun, ibadam ogun etc, once they put a makeshift window in their mud houses, they are good to go . Therefore they need to hustle for free treated net more than easterners to make up. |
@Op you are very correct. Nigeria is a country built on hypocrisy, lies and injustice. We all know that the idea of a united Nigeria is an illusion. In the late 1950s, Ahmadu bello vowed to rather give foreigners posts than Igbos, leading to their demand that the british should continue untill independence becomes "practicable". Again in 1966 many Notherners and wersterners took advantage of the Igbo led coup (an act which most Igbo leader were not privy) to promote anti-igbo sentiment. Many statements were released by govt in northern and western region portraying igbos as dominieering pple who took over jobs from the 'indigens'. Many igbos were attacked and sacked. Around 2006 we heard about the killing of six Igbo traders in Abuja. Nothing has been heard about the 'apo six' till today. What about the aluu murder case? Even till today an average Hausaman will pretend to be contented with just the food he eat but then will be ready to capitalize on a danish cartoon to burn down a house owned by an igbo in the north. We also hear yorubas saying go back to your "villages" simply because they eye Igbo investments and jobs. Tell me the moral right someone who does this has to condemn a south african doing same in their own country. There is no difference between Igbophobia and xenophobia nigerians should know that charity begins at home. |
Go to court and stop talking! |
Nigerians dont have the moral right to blame south Africans. There is no difference between xenophobia and Igbophobia. |
