I intend to buy a 2009 Sienna but have been advised against it. A friend said the 2004 and 2005 model are much stronger... 13 pin stuff.
Please the opinion of experts in the house is needed.

The 04 to 05 was fitted with 3.3L while the 09 is fitted with 3.5L

The 3.5L is faster and more fuel efficient than the 3.3L but the Engine and transmission of the 09 cost more than the 3.3L

They are both solid but the 3.5 is an all aluminum block Engine, if it has a serious overheating problem replacement of the Engine is the only solution. But personally I would buy a 3.5 over 3.3 if I am not a novice in vehicles

Avensis Verso is seriously sought after due to the three row seat and 4 cylinder and 2.4 litre engine capacity However most of them are converted from rhd to lhd since the vehicle is not common in American.
Don't have the reason but non converted one is unnecessarily very expensive,

Avensis verso is not a North American vehicle, that is what the sienna is for.

Non converted vehicles that are Europe models are very expensive than converted ones, take the korope for example, RHD starts at 600k but a direct LHD with AC is between 1.2 to 1.5m

You can either buy a Bluetooth scanner and use to test

check the OBD port, the wires running out of it would be cut and dangling

Let a technician with scan tool go with you to confirm the vehiyand use his high-end scanner to scan.

if the OBD port doesn't communicate with a scanner run for your life. I have used the 2003 wagon before, very good car, DVD reverse camera very fuel around 4500 full tank.

mine too was converted and when obd couldn't communicate with scanner nah there wahala dey any issue nah trial and error

Good vehicle as long as it was not converted, if converted, ensure you plug a scanner to the port, if there is no communication my brother run like a Porsche and never look back.

You bought an hybrid vehicle without a thorough check of the hybrid system, you bleeped up big time.

You have 2 options and both are very expensive and would cost you between 300k to 500k depending on what needs to be done.

You can either convert to normal Otto engine or

You can buy new hybrid battery pack

To answer your question, the gear would change from 1 to 4 in ascending and descending order when switch to " D " as the computer controlling the gear sees fit for the speed you are "ON"
