Right. This is just carrying on unnecessarily. Simple question: Are the accusations against the US true or not? If true, then what is your point? If false, then show how. This is a simple enough matter. That those accusations came from Chavez is irrelevant in the larger scheme of things. If the US has been caught out, she (and her ‘followers’) should be able to say that much and immediately set about righting the wrongs instead of choosing to kill the messenger. That you lot think Chavez is worse than Bush takes absolutely nothing away from Bush's culpability. That is the point. We needn’t over-intellectualise this most basic element of morality and ethics.

That is a point that only exists as a figment of imagination. A thief does not accuse another of stealing simply because he is the bigger thief! What is more worrying than those who deny their own citizens the right to freedom of expression and yet accuse another nation of imperialism!
Thank you. But, fact remains that those accusations are true. They are not made up and they are not divorced from reality. Simple, really.

Kalu, Nnamani and Nzeribe would stake a claim for the East.

AM I WRONG?
Yes! You know this is not true. The Igbo Summit tells us that much. Stop travelling this road, Chxta! It invariably leads to a dead-end every time.

No I can't. I expect people to be smarter than just responding to the title of an article without reading its contents. Which is what he did. I daresay that he hasn't read that article till date based on his responses.
The title set the tone for the whole piece. As I mentioned at the time, the title should have been modified to reflect the South-South leaders you were targeting.

Because the break away nations had their chance in 1967, and instead of taking that chance fought a war to bring the one part that was bold enough to try to take the opportunity back into the fold. Since we have spilled blood to solidify the union, the union must remain. It can work if given the chance, AND IT WILL WORK.
It may work and for the sake of nigerians, I hope it does. BUT, the Igbo will not be a part of that arrangement. We are tired of giving so much and getting so little.

*What do you have to say about the recent attacks up North?

Exactly the point, those who throw stones do not live in glass houses! Those who claim the US is an imperialist nation should first ensure they come to equity with clean hands, the likes of Ahmedinajad and Chavez are not qualified candidates to accuse the US of imperialism!
No, no, no. That one with soiled hands points out that another’s hands are soiled does not make the statement any less factual or worrying - just like KK calling Atiku a thief doesn't make him any less so. That is exactly the point.

And how am I making it personal when I showed here (there are many other instances which time would not permit me to delve into) that I never start the personal attacks. But it really makes having a discussion irritating when people (like Ono) begin to call me names instead of having an enlightened banter like we do, you and I. The focus in my dialogues with you have remained facts, or has it not?
Actually, the insults started with the topic asking the South-South to shut up. Ono only responded by asking you to shut up as well. You can see that, can't you?

Half full bottle, half empty bottle. Let me throw back the question at you: Nigeria is not working because of these individuals, how then would the break away nations?
No, I think you should be asking yourself why the breakaway nations shouldn't be given a chance if nigeria (by your owm admission) isn't working.

@Nutter,

If truth be told, the real reason why TayoD won't list the faults of the US is that things like hypocrisy and double standards will make the list.

Very interesting discussions indeed and very revealing too.
cheesy Brother, you are entirely correct. That’s why I asked him to list them. He probably started out and then realised that it did his position little good to continue. Like I said to him:

My feeling on this is that were you to provide an itemization of said faults, it would promptly become apparent that they align very closely with the issues many have taken the position of disgust against. A position, I remind you, which you immediately labelled ‘US Bashing’.

Some people just find it difficult to tell it as it is.

@TayoD,

TayoD:
@Nutter,

That is exactly the point. If I am putting up a defense for the US, I am not the one that should be levelung accusations at them.
Therefore, you forfeit the right to claim objectivity. You are thus no better than the terrorists who see only bad things about the US. You are no better than those you have accused on this thread of bashing the US.

TayoD:
The report that the US is the one holding up the economies of most developing countries is not mine, but produced by a UN representative. The links is still there for you to go through. You may do well to disprove this article by your scholarship refutal of the facts provided therein.
It's either you didn't read my reply to the article or you have chosen to do away with the points I raised. I did not discredit that article. I only made a point of making you aware that the US does not do all that for free. She gets paid!

The quote I took issue with was this:

"am so sick and tired of the rest of the world. You insult us everyday. I would gladly remove all of our soilders, businesses, charities, and any other organizations that you spit on dailey. You go your way with your Chaves', Bin Landens, Kim Jongs, and whoever else you seem to want to exhalt as wise and loving people. I wish we would build a wall all the way around our country and try to forget the rest of you are out there. I'm sure you wont post this but I promise millions of Americans agree"

Zane, USA

I hope you realise that the above is complete poppycock.
PoliticsRe: Hugo Chavez: Matters Arising by Nutter(m): 10:36pm On Sep 26, 2006
@TayoD,

As you have refused to hold up your own end of this debate, I don’t see any reason to continue. If your above evasive entry was a one-off, it could be excused. However, you previously touted the incongruous idea that the US could survive in its present form if cut-off from the rest of the world. I called you up on that but you remained silent. Now, even though you accept that the US has made mistakes, you refuse to list them. My feeling on this is that were you to provide an itemization of said faults, it would promptly become apparent that they align very closely with the issues many have taken the position of disgust against. A position, I remind you, which you immediately labelled ‘US Bashing’. Anyway, it’s unfortunate that you have been unwilling and/or unable to put up a defence for the US. This has only served to reinforce my beliefs. Nice chatting with you though.

Very well said, Flex06. I however take issue with your assertion that most priests are synonymous with molestation. It is not most but some.

@Topic,

I just don’t understand some people. The Laws of the Church are quite clear. You cannot get married if you want to be (or remain) a priest. You cannot have it both ways. If he felt himself keen to partake in ‘earthly pleasures’, he should have left the Church of his own volition (I have a seminarian friend who did just that), joined the Anglican Communion or, as is common these days, started his own church; instead of trying to take the Mickey. Ah, ah!

*Like Flex06, I remain an ardent supporter of priests who leave the Church rather than stay on the ‘register’ while cavorting with all manner of women (men and boys!).

@Chxta,

I’m doing well. Been very busy with work but . . . I hope you are keeping well yourself.

The questions I raised shall patiently await your attention. I am particularly interested in any defence you may want to present for India and Indonesia - country examples which you provided. Also, you will do well to address the recent attacks in Northern nigeria. Every time I speak out about these absurdities and am challenged, the almajiris are always on hand to provide distasteful vindication.

Meanwhile, why are you always having a go at Ono? When I write, I try my best to present only the facts. It is these facts that Ono agrees with and not necessarily me. There is a difference. Moreover, what does it matter who presents the facts? Me, Ono, Mickey Mouse, or even, you? The focus should be on the facts and not on extraneous matters. Try to see that and stop(!) making this personal. You are giving off the impression that you hold a grudge.

I think you got really exposed by your: “it would be the same set of individuals running the show” refrain. If breakaway nations will not work because of these people, how then can nigeria? Tut, tut, tut.

PoliticsRe: Hugo Chavez: Matters Arising by Nutter(m): 7:51pm On Sep 25, 2006
@TayoD,

Chavez saying Bush is a devil that smells like a devil is funny (very funny indeed) but wrong – I agree (only because Christian teaching tells me so). However, calling Bush a liar is right on the money. It matters little that Bush claims to have been fed inaccurate information by the CIA. The fact remains that he made this available to the world as the truth. He has to take responsibility for that. Moreover, I am not entirely convinced that he was not looking for an excuse to invade Iraq. The prize was too great. Iraq was the most policed/monitored country leading up to the war. The US knew Saddam’s every move. The thing is, Bush stood the chance of not only avenging the assassination attempt on his dad, but also taking control of Iraq’s oil. That explains why there was a concentration of forces around oil installations in the early part of the war, while the rest of the country suffered sustained episodes of looting. Also, the dodgy contract awards to oil companies should be a major source of concern to all.

While the veto power enjoyed by the US is lawful (but not just, I hasten to add), with such power should come an even greater willingness to do right. The countless number of times the US has vetoed bills against Israel (for no other reason but that Israel is concerned) should be worrying for any political watcher. This is the real reason for the attacks against the US.

When you speak of Bush seeking clarifications on the Geneva Conventions, I assume you speak in relation to Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib (my spelling is off, I’m sure). Bush seeking those clarifications after the fact is wrong. It’s simply too little, too late. However way we look at it, the US is wrong on that count. Bush broke international law. Do not attempt to justify that.

You still haven’t told me the faults you think the US has. Surely you should be able to think up a few.
