Education / Re: HELP! WAEC Did Not Say Withheld But Says This by Nwanna2588: 2:14pm On Jul 27, 2017
Hayah:

Was the exam done in a private school or government owned school?
If government owned, did the candidate pay for the exam or the state government did?
If state government AND it's not peculiar to that candidate alone in his/her school, I guess that state government has actually NOT paid, hence the results not being uploaded by WAEC.

It has happened to some of my students before

It happened in private school

The boy checked his result in the just released WAEC result and the display message is "result not available for the candidate in the specified year. "

Who had witnessed that before and what was the scenario like?

Education / Re: The Two Main Types Of First Class Graduates by Nwanna2588: 7:37am On Jul 15, 2017
anyebedgreat:
I totally disagree with you especially on the half baked category.
First, nobody gets first class by sheer luck. First class no be beans. You must work your way to get it.
Secondly, you mentioned bribe and whatever. Who bribes to get first class? people that give bribe in school do so just to pass, or boost their cgpa at least. Even if you give such people first class, they won't accept it.
Futhermore, You should also know that people don't learn anything useful in most public universities (if you have tried to conduct experiment with equipment from 50 years ago, you will understand) . While students in private schools are taught in conducive environment, public university students are stressed out and made to suffer unneccesarily. In Nigeria, we believe that if it isn't difficult, its not of good quality. My point here is, private university students actually learn, while public university students try to pass. Saying first class graduates from private unis are not sound is wrong.
And then on the issue of cramming, those who don't do it are fewer than those who do it. Some people are just better at it and those who are better are not dull.

I agree with the poster in that of first class graduate from private universities. Some of them are what the poster says.

Education / Re: Opinion: These Are The Category Of Protesters Against TRCN by Nwanna2588: 12:52pm On Jun 30, 2017
Ezi39:
TRCN stands for Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria.
1. Some Private School Owners: There are many mushroom schools especially in Lagos. The proprietors of these schools are only after anybody that can accept their peanuts. Such proprietors are among the people that are kicking after the 2018 deadline that has been set by the professional body.
Such proprietors don't believe in professional. They believe that anybody can teach and as such they employ based on who bargain less with them. After all those who police external exams are not immune to bribery so they can always capitalise on them and justify their employment of quack teachers.
This same set of proprietors are not happy on the technological development that exam bodies are upgrading to because they will be no room for cheating during exam if WAEC and NECO apply the same JAMB technique.

2: The Non Certified Teacher: These are the second group of people that do not want TRCN. It is akin to showing them the exit so this is why they are protesting against the 2018 deadline. They are in many private schools and they hardly search for another job because they will not be considered.
So if you know of a teacher in a private school that is not paying much and the teacher does not want to leave, the teacher may be one example.

3: The Born Teachers: Unlike the number two above, teachers in this category are qualified because they have their certificate. But one thing you should know is that teaching is an exclusive preserve of those that have NCE and B.Ed. Any teacher without this certificate is a dabbler in the profession.
So some of them don't want to comply with the directive of the TRCN management which is directing the to enrol for an additional one year programme and get the requisite knowledge (teaching methodology).
This set of teachers are found in both public and private schools. They are are also scattered in the higher institutions. Their protest is that they have the requisite qualifications but they have failed to understand that they are not exposed to teaching methodology. They are dabblers.

They're many 2.2 out there doing well. The poster should not compare 2.2 with any grade lower than it. The boundary has been drawn. While 2.2 competes with second class upper and first class other grades lower than 2.2 competes among themselves.

Education / Re: 10 Reasons Why Federal Universities Are No Match To Covenant University (PROOFS) by Nwanna2588: 3:58pm On Feb 25, 2017
Private universities in Nigeria are still way back when compared to their public school counterparts. How many private universities can rusticate students as did FUTMIN recently. They'll always pamper their students until they graduate. We all know they're after profits.
Education is best entrusted under the stewardship of the government because of this negative trend. No proprietor wants to lose and because of that private schools have lost the aim of establishing it.
Crime / My Concern For All. by Nwanna2588: 4:01pm On Dec 25, 2016
I should have posted this under safety but there is no safety here to post it. Yesterday I recharged my phone for the first time using diamond bank code. I was happy to see it work but soon my happiness was cut short when I discovered that there is no protection.
Unlike mobile banking that demands ones pin code and even email ID or any other registered ID. The recharging is only about knowing the code and typing the number used for registering the account. This is not good because anybody that knows your bank can always use your number to recharge his phone provided he knows the bank code via share and sell. After all the dissimulation can be done by deleting the message that will follow except that of email (that is if the person did not use the person's phone to carry it out. I mean when the phone has internet access with the email activated).
I don't know of other banks but my experience is based on diamond bank which I'm using. Folks, how do you see it?

Education / Re: 7 "Downsides" Of Being A First Class Graduate In Nigeria by Nwanna2588: 5:43pm On Dec 15, 2016
I don't have problem with those that finished with first class but what I don't like is inability of some holders of first class to reprise the same actions that earned them first class when the need arises.
I don't know about you but I look at the certificate with askance because the system is corrupt.

Career / Re: Thread For Aspiring Lecturers by Nwanna2588: 5:52pm On Dec 09, 2016
fratermathy:

ASUU is the only recognised group for University lecturers and it is even not a professional body. It's more like a trade union. TRCN is for secondary school teachers and lecturers at the colleges of education. It has nothing to do with University lecturers. Even lecturers in the Faculty of Education are not obligated to be registered with TRCN.
No lecturers in the faculty of education are obligated to be registered.

Which body then is the professional body for them? Is it not TRCN?
