There are options of course - we have "clean buses" - but certainly nothing like dafnos - those are way too rickety and badly built. I guess Nigeria has no manufacturing or car assembly industry to talk about...so you end up with badly made shared taxis.

It's about choice - if you prefer clean quiet buses..there are thousands of that. The indusry is still largely informal - but kenya has made tremendous progress to formalize them - all must belong to SACCO (savings and credit) - and there are strict regulations they follow.

Let's look at another car manufacturer in Nigeria..

This is Proforce Defense, and indigenous company founded by a Nigerian, that specializes in armoured vehicles manufacturing and patrol boats...

The point is that we don't have those kind of old crap yellow danfos and Nigeria needs to improve her car assembly industry if that's the Kind of vehicles which looks like unroadworthy vehicles that they assembles.

You can't compare Nigeria's car manufacturing and assembly industry to Kenya.. lol

This is Innoson(IVM) an indigenous car manufacturer who makes cars for citizens as well as for the police and army.. He also makes garbage trucks and road sweepers

Here are his garbage trucks

Also Innoson makes spare parts for the Nigerian Air Force alpha jets.. Here's a CNN article
https://www.cnn.com/2016/03/23/africa/innoson-nigeria-jet-parts/index.html

Keep in Mind that it was a Nigeria black person who founded Innoson not some white guy like that of Mobius in Kenya...

Innoson is already exporting cars to Mali..

Lagos rising..

Lagos needs to plan its urban areas better. Like along the lagoon(as shown in the pic) there should be a minimum height to buildings. We shouldn't have a one or two story building in such a pristine location.

I would like to see more mid-rise buildings along this area.
Programming / Could Lagos, Nigeria Be The Next Silicon Valley? - American Media by nwoke37: 4:11am On May 06, 2018

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiqERIAbIH4

Sleek desks, casual dress code, free lunch – it's what you'd expect to see in Silicon Valley. But you can also find them in Lagos, Nigeria, where money from U.S. investors is being used to train a new generation of software engineers. Africa is attracting more and more tech startups and in 2017 alone attracted more than half a billion dollars in startup funding.

Hannah Masila is a developer at Andela, one of the continent's top tech startups. She grew up in a rural village in Kenya, where options seemed limited.

"My mind was just revolving around farming and, well, kids were married off as early as 12," she told CBS News' Kylie Atwood. "So it was just like where life will take me I will just go. ... It is shocking like younger me would be like, 'Wow, how did you even do this?' ... I feel for the kids back in the village, like, 'You can do this.'"

Forced to leave her village when ethnic clashes broke out, Hannah went to high school nearby and decided to become an engineer. Until finding Andela online, she was set to become the problem solver at home.

"Fix my dad's TV when it crashes or just help out in the neighborhood. I didn't really think that big," Hannah said.

Seni Sulyman, the company's president of global operations, recruits talent across Africa. He returned to Lagos after 11 years in the United States, where he attended Harvard Business School and worked at big tech companies.

So why is he back?

"This is the future," Sulyman said. "I think ultimately we are creating an economy in the technology industry which is going to spark a massive revolution on the continent. And I am seeing it happen every day. So the impact we have and the impact I can have as an individual is just so tangible and so meaningful being here. And it's home, so like, who doesn't want to change home!"

In 2016 the company got a $24 million infusion, led by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, who followed up with a visit.

"When you have someone who is probably considered the most important person in tech physically standing in your office telling you about how he believes in you, it has a way of just validating everything you are doing," Sulyman said.

The coding done by Andela's developers helps American tech companies innovate from New York to Pittsburgh to San Francisco. With almost 1,000 coders so far, Andela is looking to expand.

"Our idea is that we started in 2014 and we said in 10 years we would have helped to empower 100,000 developers in Africa which takes us to 2024," he said.

In that same amount of time there is projected to be a shortage of almost one million developers in the U.S. domestically. So American companies are going to be looking. Competition for a job at Andela is fierce. Its acceptance rate of applicants is about .7 percent – less than one percent. For some perspective, Harvard's acceptance rate is higher.

Changing conceptions about what a coder looks like and where they come from is igniting enthusiasm and Hannah Masila wants her story to inspire younger African generations.

"It doesn't have to be programming but just believing in yourself."

Sadly Nigerians who have money are investing in oil up and down. Instead of investing in manufacturing and such industries that would really develop Nigeria.

I mean why can't we have a world class construction company that builds railroad, power plants, bridges, dams... Nigeria sef

Manufacturing is the way to go for Nigeria.Nigeria should aim to become the Japan of Africa, the most industrialized country in Africa.
How did China lift millions of people out of poverty?

Nigeria needs to set up economic zones all over Nigeria that have electricity and good infrastructure. By now, Nigeria should have been a major exporter of home appliances.

Agriculture does have a role to play, but ultimately manufacturing will provide the massive amount of jobs Nigeria needs.

So do not blame our government we are so illiterate that do not know right from left good from bad see a criminal we are happy to follow him we nigerians in europe we tell you dear white people did nothing for nigeria so is better we follow criminals. So that is a behaviour you cannot see in any country when nigerians will vote for somebody to develop them its only crime they want. The way you make your bed so you lie on it. I guess we can't blame you. Poor education mean you can't even do the basic mathematics.

Let try Total Nigeria budget = Total federal budget + Internal Generated Revenue (excl federal allocation) in 36 states ( or You can also try federal budget+state budget - federal allocation).

Total federal budget = $29B
Total state allocation (N9.5 trillion Naira - remove the federal allocation - otherwise you'll be double counting) - I think you get left with 8-9B dollars
Total =29+8=$37B

Kenya = Total budget for 2018/2019 (30B with 3B being county allocation +1-2B which counties will generate) =$32B

It either basic maths is the problem or the valueless Naira is deluding you. The thing is worth 4 Kshs.

Mr. Onyekpere criticised the entire budget outlay, arguing that although the total N8.612 trillion “appears high in Naira terms,” it actually amounted to a “paltry $28.24 billion.”

Nigeria economy is supposed to be the biggest in Africa. But, we are the lowest, both in per capita budget figures and in absolute terms. Nigeria is in the middle among South Africa, Algeria, Egypt and Angola.

“This year, South Africa is budgeting about $116 billion, against Nigeria’s $23 billion, despite being the highest appropriation ever. Angola is doing $124 billion; Algeria $53 billion and Egypt $40 billion.

The question to ask - is WHY IS ANGOLA spending 124B dollars - while Nigeria who are top 10 petrol oil sellers in the world are doing 28B grin grin grin - What is WRONG WITH YOU GUYS. You mean all that oil is just siphoned off? You let shell steal the whole of it? I mean you guys don't even know the offshore oil where it goes smiley smiley

WHAT IS WRONG WITH NIGERIA?

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/249059-2018-nigerias-biggest-budget-yet-meagre-compared-angola-south-africas.html

On a serious note, Nigeria's budget is wayyyyy too small especially for our large population. No wonder our infrastructure is dilapidated, our education system is in a bad state, our health sector failing... golly Nigeria needs to do something about it. Somalia and Nigeria have similar age expectancies!
Just to think when Nigeria first started out we were ahead of China, now China has gone far to even almost superpower status. I weep for my dear country. Corruption and very bad leadership has ruined Nigeria. Chai!

We're still waiting for the right president to take us out this very sad position. I dare say, Nigeria needs some sort of revolution.

Dangote didn't necessarily jump ship because of competition. He only rescheduled the building of a factory in Kenya. i think around 2020 ish. Dangote faces competition in Nigeria and is a multinational with planned expansions in Asia. Dangote has no reson to fear competion in Kenya.

IMF will not lend to Nigeria unless you agree to bring your GDP to right level - by devauling naira, raising interest rate, improving your revenue.

So cook you GDP and for political reason - IMF will pretend not to see- but you aint getting any lending - even if oil prices drop to 10 dollars.

IMF BIG BOYS in Africa - in terms of who they can trust their billion dollars with.

See Kenya has 1.5B (over-draft facility), Egypt(12B), Morocco, Tunisia (more than 1B each) and Ghana got 900M dollars. Nigeria nothing. Got to weather the recession buddy - you can't repay a loan with little taxes you have.

http://www.imf.org/external/np/exr/map/lending/index.htm

Nigeria didn't ask for help from the IMF when the recession was upon us. Instead, we created the right policies and started investing to stimulate the economy. Today, Nigeria has successfully exited recession without the help of the IMF.

You need to see a doctor. In financial recessions, big cities are most affected while villages barely notice it. What this means is the GDP of Lagos definitely receded more than the average national GDP and that $62 billion is definitely the best it could be. Only a Nigerian would think their economic heartbeat increased in GDP by over 50% while the rest of the country reduced by 31%, lol.

that website I gave u is very credible. It’s your choice to believe or not... lol someone was right.... even if we show facts, you’ll still disagree

Plans. Where you total revenues are so tiny. How will they materiliaze. Nigeria is using 1,800-4,000MW (when they max out) - so I don't think adding more MWs is the solution. She need to resolve the basic issues...pre-paid meters can solve cashflow issues plauging your power sector...and the turbines can turn again 24-7 and you'll be able to enjoy constant power like many African countries..including somalia which is at war.

But it's about PLANS and GDP and Dangote.

That’s why I said transmission. Low transmission capacity is why Nigeria can’t give out its full 12000 mw to users.Nigeria is working on improving its transmission... And have you heard of the private sector. In many projects, the Nigerian government doesn’t have to spend a dime, but they’ll encourage the private sector to invest

So you're using fake 2014 data to claim Lagos'GDP is bigger than Kenya's in 2018?

Even if I was to agree with your data - considering Nigeria's GDP has shrunk by 31% since 2014 hence if Lagos' GDP also shrinks by 31% that'll make it $62 billion which is still much smaller than Kenya's.

Lagos’ gdp grew during the recession. Recession barely affected Lagos’ growth. Lagos gdp is about $136 billion rn

Lagos state output in 2017 was $136bn, according to official estimates, more than a third of Nigeria’s gross domestic product. The city is the centre of most of the country’s manufacturing and home to a pan-African banking industry as well as a thriving music, fashion and film scene that reverberates around the continent. More recently, it has become a tech hub to rival Nairobi’s so-called Silicon Savannah.

The Lagos economy is significantly bigger than that of the whole of Kenya, east Africa’s most dynamic country, with a nominal per capita income of more than $5,000, more than double the Nigerian average.

I doubt the effectiveness of LRU - and then the plans grin grin - those are hilarous - Nigeria has 12,000mw of installed capacity - and it manages to only use 2,000MW - just tell me how adding more installed capacity will solve anything. Are you guys this dumb? The current installed capacity is enough to supply the entire nigeria with constant 24-7 electricity. At you level of poverty - your per capita power needs are low (mostly lighting a bulb & watching TV)- just like in Kenya - the average household - need maybe 0.5kwh per day - and 12,000mw can give you what 240,000,0000kwhs...more than enough to supply the entire nigeria.

The problem is not more generation...it's maintaining the existing ones..ensure they are running 24-7hrs - by making sure people are being smart-metered and they are paying for power...giving money to distributor to pay the producer...and slowly moving from 1,800MW per day to 12,000MW per day...otherwise the idle capacity you have is staggering.

But all of you are mostly idiots just shouting GDP, Dangote, and Big PLANS.

Kenya generates about 2,500Mw - and it uses 2,000MW with 500MW just idling there for any surges -- and it supplies 4-6M household with power - and you'll be suprised that only about 6,000 of it's customers - the big industries consume 80% of our power. Household consume nearly nothing....lighting 5 bulbs at night for 3-4 hours, charging their phones or laptops, at best a fridge and watching TV....the entire lagos can function with 1,000 MW.

The electricity project are EPPs,embedded power producers, and is only for Lagos state. Private investors will generate electricity and it will be transmittted to customers in Lagos state. The customers will be metered and Lagos has passed laws to curb vandalism and stealing of electricity.
https://lagosstate.gov.ng/blog/2018/02/03/lagos-revs-up-economy-with-new-power-and-property-laws/

http://www.businessdayonline.com/ambode-signs-agreement-investors-lagos-3000-mw-embedded-power-project/

This is not part of the national grid that’s bogged down with inefficiency.
Now if you’re talking about the national grid, they’re plans to increase its transmission capability to be able to transmit more electricity as well as to include more generation capacity. Nigeria will be able to transmit 10,000 mw of its electricity in 2020 and 28,000 mw by 2035
http://sweetcrudereports.com/2018/02/03/nigeria-increase-transmission-capacity-28000mw-2035/

Lagos has the most industries in Nigeria. It will most likely need way more than 1,000 mw.
Nigeria will need way more than 12,000mw..
According to this report Nigeria needs 20,000 mw and even more.

Many African Americans elites are in the secret societies that propagate homosexuality here in the U.S, in the U.K and in South Africa, especially they are in Ghana too. Btw why don't you bring a reliable source that places Lagos GDP at over $88 billion? Sometimes people tell themselves a lie so frequently they start believing it themselves.

Lagos is a state.. Johannesburg is a city within the gauteng province which also has a bigger gdp than Kenya..

Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has described the state as the fastest growing mega city in the world, just as he revealed that its Gross Domestic Product GDP has hit $136 billion.

He also said the state accounts for over 90 per cent of Nigeria’s foreign trade flow, which invariably contributes 30 per cent to the country’s GDP and also accounts for 65 per cent of its manufacturing activity.

rvp2018 .I get your point on agriculture. But whoever is saying we should diversify in agriculture is a lie and is lying to you.in cameroon today there are more than 280 nigeria commercial farmers and in ghana 153 nigeria commercial farmers in nigeria four states no commercial farm active or running. Most of the commercial farms have packed up and left the country. Whoever is telling you in nigeria to do agriculture is a lie all we have are peasant farmers.

What about cosharis rice farm?
Olam?
Or why are we almost sufficient in rice production?
Or how Nigeria successful phased out sugar imports because we produced enough?
How Nigeria has the largest sugar processing complex in the world?
Didn’t u see our agricultural produce in shoprite?
Guy u are such a depressed fellow. Yes Nigeria has problems but there are still positives. Nigeria has larger agricultural sector than those countries u mentioned.

Have u not been seeing the constant recent investments, both foreign and local(including Dangote), being made in agriculture in
Nigeria.

Doubt these stats very much. I very much doubt that Ghana will catch up to Nigeria in gdp per capita in 5 years. These are just mere speculations based on current, recent conditions. These conditions are bound to change

rvp2017:
The past - before there was the talk of climate change - there was times including recently when it was 15 dollars a barrel - Renewable clean energy is the future. Many developed countries are planning to ban petrol or diesel cars by 2030! It will be total annihilation; the same with coal.Nigeria have wasted all their petro-dollars - including building a new slum city in Abuja...and they are seemingly unable to function without oil.Factories or power station that ran on diesel are being de-commissioned. In the short-term China is building a huge reserve of Oil so they won't be coming to the market a lot. Your gov revenues are all from oil. You guys need to really wake up before it's too late.

Don’t know what u mean by new slum city... the developers were the ones who built much of the Dubai downtown. They also built the Burj khalifa, the tallest building in the world in Dubai... Centenary city is based a little on Dubai and other world class cities in the world like Singapore... there’s going to be cable cars in the new city as well. It’s meant to be a tourist hotspot.

I am aware oil won’t be as relevant in the next 20-30 yrs. Nigeria has more than enough time to diversify. Right now the present government is looking towards agriculture to drive the diversification process. Hopefully this diversification process is sustained..
