Abuja Bomb: Document reveals Okah made 43 Calls, 27 SMS to Suspects

Evidence presented at the resumed hearing of the terrorism case against Henry Okah, embattled leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND showed that he made 43 telephone calls and exchanged 27 text messages to all the suspects in the October 1 twin bomb in Abuja.

The records presented to the South African Court showed Okah made calls and exchanged text messages to Chima Orlu, one of the suspects currently on the run, Ben Ebere aka Ben Jesse between August and October.

According to the record which was presented based on Magistrate Hein Louw request that a concrete evidence be presented for the case to continue, Okah made 1,126 calls to Ben Ebere from August 7, 2010 to September 29, 2010. And in October 1, 2010, he made a total of 43 calls and 27 text messages to Orlu who has been declared wanted by the State Security Service in Nigeria.

From the record read by the Prosecution lawyer, Shaun Abrahams, signed by the South African police, the two cars used for the Abuja bombing by the perpetrators and co-perpetrators in the crime were bought on Okah’s instruction .

chaircover:
What am I reading here? Men cheat because their wives tie wrappers? Are you kidding me? shocked shocked shocked

Do oyinbos tie wrapper? Do the husbands of extremely beautiful black women not cheat undecided

Men cheat for the simple reason that there is opportunity and they know they can get away with it period.

If God lived next door how many men will cheat even if their wives slept with hair rollers and tied ankara round their chest 24 hours a day cool

Men cheat because there is always a woman somewhere prepared to give it to him for something in return; be it an offer of a job, pass marks in a course, a juicy contract, a coca cola supply contract etc etc and in some cases the women just wants a piece of him full stop.

Men especially cheat in our culture because once the man is seen to be putting food on the table and his wife shops in a supermarket & kids eat at Mr Biggs every Sunday after church, he is seen as a good husband and most other bad behavior is overlooked. Even the wife's family in some instances will say things like "shebi he looks after you and the kids and he comes home every night"

There is a lot of temptation out there and a lot of excuses that men give, but Glory be to God there are still some men of integrity out there who totally understand the meaning of the vows they made wink smiley
You are talking about me and Mr CC right? Yeah, glory be to God! grin
Ok, netotse replied,  allow me to add;

I'm glad you mentioned the bolded. You are right, But The key is Inspiration. Articulation and Oratory skills are like "jaras" (extras). Essential extras IMO though.

The point is that Ribadu and ACN must inspire followership, his ambition depends on it period!

But my experiences with Nigerians shows that we most often equate articulation with the ability to speak Queens English.  I DO NOT CARE if Ribadu cannot speak Queens English like the King of England.

Can he speak Hausa to the Masses like Aminu Kano spoke to the Talakawas?

Can he command the attention of the crowd like Adegoke Adelabu on Mapo hill? or the young  Zik in front of a crowd? -those people became leaders for a reason.

. . . and if he can't communicate and pass across his message with great oratorical skills, can he ORGANIZE like a certain Black man with a "funny name" who with his charm, charisma and dogged organizational skills became the most powerful man in the world?

It's not just the articulation and Oratory, and no, Ribadu does not need to speak English to Agberos, but he must inspire and ORGANIZE those people to believe in his campaign and want him more than they want a bag of rice from GEJ or a wad of cash from IBB, else he'll lose. . .
Thanks for the clarification. I agree with the bold 100%. NR and ACN need to develop a sound strategy and communicate with all and sundry in the language they understand.

Even though I want NR to contest, I do not expect him to win in 2011. he can be the opposition voice between 2011 - 2015 during that period everyone would have known what his view points are.

And I expect him to be a force to reckon with in 2015, but then that is if he is able to transform himself from a policeman to a politician.
That is the "take away" message.^+1

Any serious student of politics will tell you that the power to inspire is chief to the success of any political leader. I do not care if you are an Angel or a Brutal dictator. Inspire or perish!

Jarus' observation is on point. Gbawe and other supporters raised very good concerns about the danger of publicly dishing out such criticisms, but IMO, if you do not have a personal access to NR, if you are not a member of his inner circle, if you have not signed an irrevocable oath of allegiance to him and his campaign,  then I see no reason why you should not publicly voice these kinds of constructive criticism.

The hope is that NR will listen or his handlers will take note and make the necessary adjustments. At the end of the day, Nuru Ribadu is a means to an end not the end itself -we want a genuine representative democracy where egalitarian laws are made, respected and enforced for all Nigerians regardless of age, class, sex or ethnicity.

I'll go slightly off-topic to present my thoughts on ACN and Ribadu;

On Ribadu's prospects; I'm just not impressed with Ribadu and all the so called progressives parading themselves around, from Ribadu to Utomi. The reason can be summed up in kcjazz's statement above.

I'm not impressed nor convinced by their grassroot organizing. I see little to no impact and safe for Buhari, their name recognition is unacceptably low and that is a major problem.

Unless Tinubu, Ribadu and all the rest of them have a secret stash of dollars somewhere to buy this election with, or a direct access to the minds of the owners of Nigeria (Big Oil), I see ACN losing the presidential Election.  As a Ribadu/ACN sympathizer, I'm saddened by the possibility of another 8 years of PDP rule.

This election will not be won online on FB and twitter. Ribadu and ACN should forget the online Youth vote nonsense they keep shouting about. Nigeria is not America and we do not have a well educated, electronically-connected, liberated youth population that will vote differently or defend their votes better than the older generation without a great deal of inspirational push.

Those who may deliver this election for ACN in the face of massive spending and rigging by PDP are NOT the FB generation. They are the Okada riding, spare part selling, we-are-gathered-on-the-street-corner-because-we-are-jobless Nigerians, they are the ones who might consider voting and guarding their votes on election day, not the "Lekki today, Yankee tomorrow" FB and Twitter types cool

ACN needs to put in more WORK to get them excited about this election and Ribadu needs to find a way to communicate to them better and inspire them to own this election. We are a wounded, cynical and politically apathetic people. Ribadu needs to work harder to convince us. Unfortunately, time is running out and I see little work on the ground.

The only thing that will make things a bit better for supporters like myself will be if ACN focus their attention on Governorship and National Assembly elections thereby directing scarce resources and time to those ones and further weakening the power of the United-in-Corruption Inc. -->PDP. That is a strategy I can live with, till we try again in four years.

For now, I see little to no effort and I hope I'm very wrong.
I like your argument and I agree with most part of it except that the bold does not justify some of yours and OP's concerns.

These people in the bold that you consider crucial for winning elections are the one that are least concerned about articulation and oratory ability.

Their main concern is; Who among them is not a thief, honest and sincere enough to give them the better Nigeria the crave for?

Although I will also be the 1st to accept the fact that NR need to do a lot more to convince and win the heart of these set of people.
PoliticsRe: Sss To Charge 5 Over Abuja Bomb Attacks by OAM4J: 3:13am On Oct 20, 2010
Suspects arrested in connection with the October 1 twin bomb blasts in Abuja have revealed to security agents, how the dastardly act was plotted and executed. According to findings, the vehicles used for the bombing were planted with explosive devices in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in the South-south region and driven to Abuja.

Already, five persons, including Charles Tombra Okah, younger brother of Henry Okah, the acclaimed leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) have been apprehended by security operatives.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, the State Security Service (SSS) said it has been able to establish the identities of the persons that drove and coordinated the vehicles. Also established by security operatides was the identity of the person who directly coordinated the bombings with Henry Okah and from where they took off in Port Harcourt for Abuja as well as the one who confirmed to his accomplice that he had completed the job immediately after the bombings.
“We wish to inform you that the following have been established.

The person that drove and coordinated the vehicles brought into Abuja for the bombings; the one who directly coordinated the bombings with Henry Okah; the individual at whose residence in Port Harcourt, the vehicles were wired for detonation and from where they took off for Abuja; and the one that confirmed to his accomplice that he had completed the job, immediately after the bombings.

Consequently, Charles Tombra Okah, one of the known users of the name, ‘Jomo Gbomo’ and four other suspects would be charged to court accordingly,” Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, the SSS Assistant Director in charge of Public Relations said.
Having gathered sufficient evidence on the role played by the five persons, the agency said it had concluded plans to take them to court very soon.

Although she did not say when the suspects would be taken to court, sources told Daily Sun in confidence that the five persons might appear in court tomorrow.
The decision to take the five suspects to court tomorrow, it was learnt, was taken at a marathon meeting by the top echelon of the agency in Abuja yesterday.
“We have assembled all the facts after thorough investigation, and the Service is convinced that all the suspects were directly involved in the bomb blasts. It is now left with the judiciary to determine the culpability or otherwise of the suspects,” she said.

It was learnt that SSS might prefer treasonable charges against the suspects for what the source said was a war against Nigeria.
However, pressed to name those against whom prima facie evidence had been established besides Okah, Ogar said the issue bordered on national security.
“Nigerians have been invited, the Service will not be pushed to publish the names of those who have been invited except it has been confirmed that they have direct dealings with the incidents under investigation,” she said.

However, the SSS spokesperson declined to answer questions in respect of the Chairman of Daar Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi who was earlier invited by the agency in connection with the blasts.
Ogar who said her agency would not want the issues surrounding the bomb explosion to be politicized, insisted she was not aware that Dokpesi’s invitiation was in anyway connected to the bombings.

“When we briefed you the other time, you had asked us to name the suspects and those connected to them. The only person mentioned then was Henry Okah because it was established that he was behind the bombings.
“If the MD of Daar Communications said he was invited, it was not to my knowledge that he was invited in connection with the bomb blasts…
“The Service will only let you know the issues that will not undermine national security.  And for that reason, you will excuse me, I will not answer this question.  Like I told you, those that have been found to be directly connected to the incident will be charged to court shortly.

On measures being put in place by the SSS to forestall future blasts, Ogar said the issues were purely operational “and the Service will not run its operations on the pages of newspapers or in the media,” Ogar said.

PoliticsA Nigerian, Others Discover Cancer Cell Killer Plant by OAM4J(op): 2:11am On Oct 20, 2010
Ovadje, others discover cancer cell killer plant

LIKE her inventor father, Brig.-Gen. Oviemo Ovadje (rtd), Pamela, has begun a scientific journey showing signs of a great future.
Pamela, a doctoral student at the University of Windsor, Canada along with her colleagues, has discovered cancer-killing properties in a common weed that grows around homes.
The story of their discovery, which can be accessed in Google, Pamela Ovadje, Cancer, Windsor, Canada, is like the story of Pamela’s father, Dr. Ovadje, who several years ago, invented the Eat-Set machine that has won for him several awards worldwide. The machine is deployed during operations to harvest the blood of the patient for auto-reinfusion that eliminates risks of external infections and contamination.
The University of Windsor students and their supervisors discovered that the dandelion, a nuisance weed that ruins the beauty of a well-manicured lawn, holds tremendous promise.
To Pamela Ovadje and Sudipa Chatterjee, the common weed is a potential lifesaver that they believe has the ability to kill some types of cancer cells.
A dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) root extract the graduate students created in their biochemistry lab caused commercially available human leukaemia cells to effectively commit suicide within 24 hours, they reported in an article published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology.
Co-authored by postgraduate student Carly Griffin, undergraduate Cynthia Tran, biochemistry professor Siyaram Pandey and Windsor Regional Cancer Centre oncologist Caroline Hamm, the article says the extract “contains components that act to induce apoptosis (cell death) selectively in cultured leukaemia cells, emphasizing the importance of this traditional medicine and thus presents a potential novel non-toxic alternative to conventional leukaemia therapy.
“It started cell death activity in leukaemia cells very quickly,” said Chatterjee, who defended her master’s thesis September 15. “They were almost all dead within 24 hours. In fact, they even continued to die after the extract was removed.”
Dandelion extract is available in an alcohol-based formula, but the students used a water-based formula and an extraction method they developed themselves. The cancer cells were then treated with the extract and analysed. Each of the tests was repeated thrice to make sure they got the same results.
The students are excited about their results but know that seeing them transformed into actual leukaemia treatments is a long way off.
“What you see in vitro doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll see it in animals or humans,” Ovadje cautioned.
But Dr. Pandey said their research —funded by the local Knights of Columbus, Council 9671 — provides the lab with a strong platform to test the extract on patient-derived leukaemia samples and animal models.
And the students are still hopeful the results may provide a “stepping stone” for the development of a more efficient therapy for leukaemia and possibly other diseases such as melanoma, colon and pancreatic cancer.
Chatterjee and Ovadje won awards for presentations of their research at the Third Annual Cancer Drug Discovery Symposium in Sudbury, while Griffin won a similar award for a presentation on her research on cancer and pancratistatin — a natural derivative of a Hawaiian spider lily plant that has shown promising results — at the Natural Health Products Research Society conference in Halifax in May.

The SSS said it had identified the owner of the Port Harcourt residence where the vehicles used in the bombings were wired, as well as the person who it said had co-ordinated the attacks with Henry Okah.

The SSS said it had also identified the person who arranged for the vehicles to be driven to Abuja and the suspect who confirmed the operation had been a success after the blasts.

But the question we need to ask ourselves is what qualities are of high priority to us for 2011 presidential election? Vision? Integrity? sincerity? or communication skills?

Bomb Blast: Gbomo Jomo arrested
…As anxiety hits Henry Okah

https://www.pointblanknews.com/News/henry_okah2.jpg

Charles Tombra Okah, immediate younger brother of Henry Okah, known in the terrorist circle as Gbomo Jomo has been arrested by armed men of Nigeria's State Security Service,SSS, in a hideout at his house located at 14, Oranmiyan close, Apapa, Lagos.

While Henry Okah accuses Charles of impersonating him and extorting money from people, Okah’s wife claimed that Charles is a businessman who has nothing to do with MEND.

"Charles Okah is not involved in the activities of MEND or in the bomb blasts that took place in Abuja," she said. "He is also not Jomo Gbomo of MEND. He is a businessman."

But while in a South African Court, Okah told prosecutors that “"My brother Charles has faked my voice and has been collecting money and negotiating a ceasefire claiming to be me," it was alleged to have said.”What treachery is this?"

His arrests and transfer to the underground cell of SSS is not unconnected with the confessions of some ex-militants in SSS custody who confirmed Okah as the spokesman of MEND.

Also, evidence found in his laptop, desktop, phone and diary confirmed that Charles have been having regular discussion and communication exchange with Henry in South Africa. Security sources confirmed that Charles has been singing like 'bird' and ready to name all his accomplice in the terrorist ring. It would be recalled that by the time his house was surrounded by security operatives, close to the Directorate of Military Intelligence, DMI, he tried to jump the fence, but was overpowered and handcuffed.

Meanwhile, the moment Henry got wind of his brother's arrest at his lonely cell in Johannesburg,South Africa, he had become tensed, withdrawn and violent fearing that Charles may confess to the terrorist activity of MEND that may eventually lead him to jail. As at press time,Marilyn Ogar, spokesperson of SSS has not refute Jomo's arrest.

The US is just declaring with whom and where their interests would lie with if there is conflict in Nigeria. My reading of the tea leaves is that from the US viewpoint, the Niger Delta is more important than the whole of the country; this little missive says it all;

In the above, it is very interesting that the Niger Delta is mentioned before Nigeria. It is also instructive, that while the US says it is wholly interested in the Niger Delta, it is only partially interested in the rest of the country and that interest extends only to security. I wouldn't be rejoicing at the US Consular General's words, if anything, they are very pregnant with meaning. Let the wise hear.

It is at times like this that daylight is shone on the stack foolishness of those who have been talking up tribal and sectional frictions; the Ciroma's, Kaita's, Kanti Bello's, Yakasai's and other similar bats.
What type of interest do they have in Niger Delta?
How beneficial is this interest to the Niger Deltans?
Are they interested in the fight against the age long injustice melted on the NDs?
Are they going to address the underdevelopment problems of ND?
And are they interested in ND struggle for resource control?

jensinmi:
Very Nice speech by Governor Fayemi.

As an Indigene of Ekiti, I think the only hope for Ekiti development is to bring in outside investment.

All these promises cannot be kept on the Federal Government allocation to Ekiti.

Governor Fayemi's government will be unable to provide all these services to the people of Ekiti because the funds for these are nowhere to be found.

Once salaries are paid, the amount left is barely enough to meet the demands of the people.

Ekiti has almost no industries, no manufacturing base, and very few businesses. The government can only employ a limited amount of people. The rest would have to fall on the private sector. That sector is almost non-existent in Ekiti.

Amongst some of us Ado-Ekiti people, we tell ourselves that Ado-Ekiti (The capital of Ekiti State) has 3 groups of businesses - Banks, Hotels, and Petrol Stations.

The burden on Dr. Fayemi now is a massive one. He has to stimulate the private sector, draw-in outside investment, and streamline the public / government parastatals.

I honestly would not want to be in his position because there is very little to work with.

In all honesty, I do not really think Ekiti is viable on its own right now as a State. We were not ready to become a state when we were removed from Ondo. Ekiti is entirely dependent on the Federal government's monthly allocation. Nonetheless, what is done is done. Time for us to be solution-oriented.

I hope Dr. Fayemi is able to work some magic and change this prognosis.

On a side note, I think projects like the Afe Babalola University are some of the few things that can bring about the jobs and opportunities needed to transform this state.
Nice write up. But it is not that bad.

The hope of Ekiti is in Agricultural revolution. Let them invest in farming and Agro-allied Industries/businesses, but not the kind of Fayose Agric-investment.

this will create employment opportunities and bring high income to the state.

even though I know what Kwarans need is not fish but how to fish, but they will rather follow the man that gives them N50 Amala than wait for the unseen man in Lagos who is not on the ground but only sending promises.
