really a tough nut for her to crack.

am sure 90% of Nigerians in UK will react exactly like 'Uncle Sonny'

and she had better not be deceived by Uncle Sonny show of acceptance, there are many Naija waiting to re-tune uncle Sonny back to Labour party.

She is in the wrong party as far as many Nigerians in UK are concerned. I dont think her being a Nigerian is enough to persuade them to her side.
FamilyRe: Yoruba Tradition Is Killing My Love by OAM4J: 5:18am On May 05, 2010
Dont let the old tradition kill your love.

It is an old tradition that forbids a family marrying twice from same family.

The believe is that after the 1st marriage the two families have become one family.

But a lot of people now know better and things are changing.

Patience is the key. Please dont rush and dont do it by force, plead with them.

I dont always advice anybody marrying without parental blessings.

Am sure you've got all the advice you need on this thread.

Just want you to know that you are also not perfect yourself. The guy is also making sacrifices and taking risks marrying you too.

Do you know that there are many Yoruba single-never had a child girls out there who would jump at his offer of marriage without minding his past.

You both have pasts & challenges, but if you both love each other and ready to tolerate and adjust to each other, then your future is great.

This things happens almost every day in the northern part of Nigeria.

That is why someone like Yerima should be jailed as a warning example to others.

Also, there should be increased education on this subject, people should stop using religion as an excuse.

Many of the Islamic countries have legislated against early marriages, because the reality is that early pregnancy is hazardous to these young girls health.

And stay in you stinking overcrowded city while I am in yankee getting my education. Foolish Yoruba boy. And I would choose my village over Lagos anyday.
And will you advice millions of your brothers in Lagos to choose their villages over Lagos too?

Why do you hate the Yorubas this much? Honestly you are doing a good job at that, because that is the only thing I know your ID with on this forum - HATRED for Yorubas

PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka Attacks Bbc Portrayal Of Lagos 'pit Of Degradation' by OAM4J: 3:57am On May 03, 2010
BBC and many of these foreign media views on Afica/Nigeria do not bother me as much, because I understand their line of reasoning.

But what bothers me is the narrow mindedness of some of us. How can anyone not see clearly that Soyinka is right?

For me 'Welcome to Lagos' is not the worse report/documentary I have seen about Lagos/Nigeria & Africa.

As a matter of fact I like this particular documentary because it at least portrays our determination/die-hard attitude to survive against all odds.

But everything is wrong with the caption. And I totally detest the claim of 11 millions of Lagosians living in slumps - for God sake where on earth did the 'almighty' BBC got that figure from.

[b]Thanks for your corrections, all is taken on board!

But I must say, every tribe has their own way of pronouncing and spelling things.  In my tribe, its spelt IBA and that's how I had known, pronounced and spelt it.  And, who care! Isn't what matters the meaning it conveyshuh

Anyway, let's get to the Yummy side of this story.

You see, it doesn't really worth it being narrow minded.  Having a tunnel view about  someone you don't really know or criticising things you don't really understand, puts one in a totally different category in the intelligence department.

Do I blame anyone?  No! Reason being that most people on here, just follow the flock and don't really think logically. This is because of our culture, Nigerians are emotional people and it's difficult for us to control our emotions when it matters as result, we go overboard,  For example, when we are talking to friends, colleagues even our enemies in the public, we are usually louder than a bomb.  We shout and shout until we shout everyone down, just to make our point.

Also, if there's an argument in the public where one mistakenly curses one's mother, that's enough to start a '3rd World war' without considering that, it's simply just a curse therefore, won't cause any bloody skin pain so why abuse and fight over a trivial thing as that, if not for our fragile emotions and, it's all evidenced here on N/L. It only takes one person to misunderstand a member's view to initiate an abuse/fight on here. Abi, I liehuhcool cool cool  You can now see what I mean, these are some of our bad habits and I can't see us changing soon because, it's cultural and therefore, entrenched.

However, your negative assumptions of me, it's ok and its your prerogative but I must remind you, in every thing you do remember, there's always two sides to every story and in this case, you had only read one until now. grin grin grin grin

Yes, theblessed has a very good sense of humour and you mustn't forget that!

Good luck with your analysis of people, you don't really know!

my dear, cant you take a compliment without tending to quarrel?

Anyway I understand your points and also wish to say that I prefer your humorous side.  cool

I have said it earlier that I dont believe the statement attributed to Obj on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-436332.0.html

isuomo:
Story was found in Compass Newspaper owned by Gbenga Daniel who will be IBB's campaign coordinator in the Southwest so go figure. Junk Journalism at its best HMV at its worst. (HMV) His Masters Voice.
exactly. I dont believe the story. The story lost more credibility when I read this:

Top on the list of those who have reached out to Babangida, most of the time subtly, are a former President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani; a former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili; Sylva; the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Bola Tinubu; and the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Barrister Godswill Akpabio.
I doubt most sincerely that Ken Nnamani, Adams Oshiomole and Tinubu will lobby IBB to be VP.

Don't think the story is worth any consideration.

i watched the rally on AIT. IBB was given the humiliation of his life when festus keyamo came on stage to address the crowd and he said IBB's presence was not needed here that his not a true democrat for annulling the the june 12 election, that nigerians shuoldnt vote for him and IBB buried his head in shame while the crowd rained abuses on him(IBB). the most embarrassing moment of it all was that IBB wasnt allowed to address the crowd like the other niger delta governors. SHAME ON IBB!

Nayah  Listen!

Your African Nigerian brothers and sisters sometimes prefer 'Home made meals,'ok! But that does not mean they don't eat Mcdonalds or Kentucky Frieds they do but rare.  When I say rare, I mean if you would put a percentage mark on how often they'd eat out, its likely to be about 2% or 5% at most if you understand what I mean?

Nigerian girl and boy prefers their own particularly, the boys because our girls are sophisticated in nature (my opinion) cheesy cheesy cheesy

Generally, men love their belly hence an English adage that says 'The Way to a Man's Heart is Through His  Stomach? and because like most men, Nigerian man love im belle, he prefers a sophisticated Nigerian girl who knows how to - to fill it up e.g. ensuring those authentic Nigerian foods are in the fridge (assuming everyone has one) and ready when he wants.

Secondly, abi, you sabi how to do amala, iba, isi ewu, kpomo and ewedu not to talk of Ofe Egusi, Ofe Okra, Olughu and Ofe Nsala or abi we go talk of Nigerian woman's goat, chicken and fish pepper soups and then, crowning it off with pammy or cool beer for him. Hmmm, job dey here o o o? You see, 95% of Nigerian men likes their iba ask anyone so its good you know how smiley smiley smiley smiley

What of his copulation needs jo, don't ignore that o o? grin grin grin grin.  And when family visits - papa, mama, oh sibblings, abeg o o, to me, the responsibility might be too much for unassuming Black/African sisters from other 'sites', I think and that's why they prefer their own because, she would understand.

Anyway, if you are considering a Nigerian for marriage, ensure you do your home work o o o.  Get good education in the above mentioned departments as it would help your loving else, be strong and ready to compete because, if he can't do those things himself certainly, he would find an avenue and that could shake things up for you.  Obviously, family would support him because in Nigerian, it's anathema to hear that a woman could not cook lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed.

Good luck with your catch!
omG!  grin grin grin grin

Funny but true! I didnt know you have this high sense of humor judging from your other posts.

anyway it is called eba not iba.  cool wink
PoliticsEgypt:why We’ve Not Acted On Yarima’s Marriage To Minor by OAM4J(op): 6:02pm On Apr 29, 2010
Egypt:Why We’ve Not Acted on Yarima’s Marriage to Minor

After more than a month of public pressure, the Embassy of Egypt in Abuja has said it cannot take any action on the alleged marriage of Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima to an Egyptian minor because the matter has not been brought to its attention officially.
Also, the Senate has directed that an investigation be conducted on the matter while the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Iyom Josephine Anenih has said the Federal Government cannot initiate legal action until concrete evidence is provided.

Yarima who is the former Governor  of Zamfara State now Senate Minority Whip, came under fire from women rights activists and civil society groups  for his alleged marriage to a 13-year old Egyptian.
The marriage had reportedly taken place in Abuja because the Egyptian authorities would not endorse getting hitched to an underage girl.
The Press & Information Officer of the Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria Dr. Mohammed Saber told THISDAY on phone that, “We cannot take the girl away from where she is because no one has reported anything to us.”
He, however, confirmed that he is aware of the matter through newspaper reports.

Meanwhile, swayed by public pressure, the Senate has directed an investigation into the matter. A petition by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which was presented by Chair of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Emem Uffot Ekaette paved the way for the investigation.
Ekaette had raised a point of order, citing Rule 41 of the Senate Standing Rules (2007 as amended) which forecloses debate to lay a copy of the petition, consequent upon which the Upper House asked the Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition Committee to investigate the matter.

Yarima’s action is seen by women groups as a setback in the fight against Vesicovaginal Fistula  (VVF), especially when considering his social standing as a Senator and a former governor.

VVF occurs when the blood supply to the tissues of the womanliness and the bladder is restricted during prolonged obstructed labour. Consequently, the tissues die between these organs, forming holes through which urine can pass uncontrollably. It widely happens to minors because of their yet to be fully developed organs.

1st virtually everyone knows that what our dishonourable Senator did is shameful to say the least.

But many of you guys are not addressing the issues/questions ayettymama is raising. She clearly stated she is not in support of Yerima act.

Her questions are: has Yerima broken any law marrying the girl? NO

Is this the first time this is happening? NO

Why the noise now especially when there are more important issues to address?

@Ayettymama

Many of us know that our law book is porous to say the least, and even if it is not, Nigeria as it stands today will find it difficult getting conviction for the likes of 'above the law' as Yerima.

We are also aware that these have been going on for years unchecked, though unchecked/unchallenged does not make it right or acceptable. also I know there are more serious issues needing attention now.

But the only way the likes of Yerima can be stopped or prosecuted is thorough public outcry and shame.

Also if someone like Yerima, supposedly a leader in Nigeria, an ex Governor and a senator is allowed to do this unchallenged, it will amount to public acceptance of the act and encourages others in the future to follows suit.

With this public outcry, the senate is now being forced to look at the issue and our law books concerning the matter

and am sure others who are thinking of doing same will think twice b4 doing so, especially those who are our leaders, who are suppose to be examples.
