On the contrary, if things continue like this, instead of buhari to resign, ordinary Nigerians are the ones who will suffer and even resign to the grave; this includes those blowing up economic assets, those foolishly praising and glorifying these acts of sabotage, those who hate buhari, those who love Buhari etc. But one things is for sure, Buhari and his entire extended family will not feel a single discomfort. |

MirabelArode: Just as they don't know whether to call the people who rejoiced over the 5% comments zombies.
The Divisive gworo-chewing burukutu-sipping Presidiot of the Zombies is only reaping what he sowed. He was high on burukutu when he made the 5% comment, he will be sober with time. The folly of your stance is that while the country burns, and you and your relatives wallow in pain and despair, the gworo-chewing, burukutu sipping presidiot as you fondly describe him, and his extended family members would never ever feel the pestilence which you tacitly pray for. It would never get close to them. The other day, the escravos pipeline was blown up, some imbeciles who think they are punishing Buhari celebrated it. But when all the thermal power plants around the country began to shutdown, and when there was a total blackout, I wonder who really was the victim of that indiscretion. |

mekaboy: I was once like u, hoping they were doing something about it till lai Mohammed showed us exactly what they were doing about the unemployment situation. Suggesting dressing masquerade while their relatives are working in CBN. There was absolutely nothing wrong in what Lai Mohammed said. The only problem is the pathetic incapacity of Nigerians to engage in critical reasoning; we actually prefer to make jokes and laugh rather than sparing a microsecond of our time and a tiny fraction of our intellects to ruminate on the import of certain statements. Of course Nigerian social media has been agog for 2 days with our so called leaders of tomorrow making jokes and throwing away the embedded message; I just shook my head in disgust at the shallowness of most Nigerians.
To summarise the meaning of Lai's simple statement for those who have failed to deploy critical reasoning, Lai was simply referring to the vast economic potentials obtainable from promoting cultural festivals. Today we have the Calabar carnivals where we copy far away Caribbean culture, meanwhile we have our own culture which can also be redefined, rebranded and promoted. There is hardly any community in the entire SE for example which doesn't have a particular 'Mmanwu' festival; so also is the case for almost every community in the SS and SW (I dont know about the north). When you imagine the economic benefits the Calabar carnival alone accrues to the city, you can only imagine what could be possible if cultural festivals can be totally overhauled, re-branded and promoted. It took a visionary leader like Donald Duke to think about a thing like the carnival, and I am sure he was seriously mocked by Nigerians like yourself at the time. Today all that is history, we now have many other cities copying Calabar.
Once again I put it to you, the problem is not Lai Mohammed because he was only making common sense, the real problem is uncommon-ness of common sense amongst the teeming population of Nigerian youths evidenced in the inability for critical reasoning and the inordinate desire to make jokes out of everything.bloodyBLOGGER: How one masquerade can create jobs for 1000 people www.nairaland.com/3083962/lai-mohammed-masquerade-create-jobs When I opened the above thread where Alh Lai Mohammed made a statement that one masquerade can create jobs for 1000 people, I was surprise by the comments that came from people about the statement. The comments showed how poor the intelligence of the Nigerian youth is as they made a jest of his statement, some out of ignorance while others were mostly out of hate for the man cos he belongs to a party that kicked their own party out of power thereby blocking all corrupt avenues they were reaping from e.g ghostworker salary. A very intelligent mind would have scrutinized the statement very well and would have realised the lack of need to criticize but attest to the idea. But these people suffering from post-election trauma lack the capacity to reason in such a sophisticated manner, hence their open show of the illiteracy bestowed on them by 16yrs of rot. Now, to the statement "one masquerade can employ 1000 people". How is this achievable? Shallow minds would expect that the single masquerade will open a company and send out job adverts for unemployed youths like them to apply. Such is hardly the case. A festival for masquerades is quite an opportunity for businesses to thrive, but our problem is that we have been very myopic by doing things the same way and expecting different results. Let's say such festival spans for 2weeks; below are the opportunities it can open if we truly value such culture as much as to transform its festival by investing heavily in it. First, each masquerade can be endorsed or branded by a corporate company thereby having the masquerade's attire designed to show the logo of the company e.g GUINNESS. That will fetch the masquerade some big box in tune of millions. The ordinary masquerade of yesterday with just 2 drummers can now employ a trumpeter, a keyboardist, a flutist and any modern musical instrument player(remember, we are doing it in a different way this time around). Once Nigeria Breweries see that Guinness is keying into the idea, they too might decided to sponsor a group of masquerades who are also going to have their own band. With top bottling companies present at an event that could witness up to a hundred thousand viewers, be sure to have drinks flowing. That's where female ushers come in. Campus girls can take that role which gives them a job experience to write in their CV. MTN or Airtel might jostle to be the event's official network. This might make them to consult an outsourcing firm to help recruit new hands for a contract job to cover the event. The attire the workers of these companies will wear to the event will be sewn by some individuals who will have some change to pocket. With these companies swinging in, the media will beam their light on the event thereby popularising it to the extent of attracting the interest of foreigners who will invest in it. What if it is done in such a way that the masquerade event is used by mobile phone companies like Slots and 3Chub to showcase their products for sale? The large turnout won't be wasted. Stands will be sold to them as they employ in-store promoters to enlighten customers about the phones. I hope you are putting the pieces together and finally getting the picture. Now, count the amount of festivals we have in Nigeria, those for masquerades and those for others and imagine them branded or sponsored. It will really be great. Mind you, the famous English premier league EPL started of with some folks kicking a round object, now it has become Barclay's Premier League BPL with so many other sponsors. The same way adidas or a Nike endorses Wayne Rooney is the same way a company in Nigeria or from abroad can endorse chukwuemeka or gbenga who are really the ones behind the mask. So, before you criticise next time, think deeply. This post is for intelligent minds alone. Written by Adewole Segun |

There is a difference between textbook economics and real life economics. Mr President doesn't need to conform to your basic economics because what we talking about here is way beyond basic economics. Since 1986, Nigeria has been devaluing its currency at every opportunity when 'basic economics' calls for it. From the lessons learnt from history, not a single time, not once has this basic economics worked for Nigeria or given us any positive result. So please tell me, what is the value of this basic economics to Nigeria and why should the president dwell on it? |

kYjelly2: I'm not even here to argue, but I just want to ask you one simple question:
WHY ARE THEY THERE
As in, why are they in government if you feel its okay to just be listing all our problems everyday, without working on them. We might as well be on auto pilot, no
That's how Adesina blatantly said that those complaining about power should go fight pipeline vandals
So now you feel proud saying scarcity, scarcity, scarcity abi So what is the solution then Or did we elect this government to just simply state all our problems mekaboy: OK, you have stated the problem, now what is your solution? Sit back and watch with hope that things get better someday while people starve to death?
Was the APC voted into power to remind Nigerians of the problems and who is to blame or provide solutions?
They knew these problems existed before they came into power. What Nigerians want to know is how did u plan to tackle the problems if you won the elections.
All We see is a sidon they look attitude. There is no way you can solve a problem without establishing and reminding yourself of what the problem is. Also with the suffering masses crying out everyday, and with the dubiously hypocritical opposition (who put us in this mess) spewing balderdash everyday, it becomes inevitable for them to keep announcing and re-announcing what the problem is even whilst they take steps to fix it. So what are they doing presently?... I do not know, I am not in the govt, but I sure know they aren't sitting back, folding their arms and just watching while things get worse. I believe they are doing something and the bitter truth remains that there is no fast way out of this economic quagmire we find ourselves in today; except of course you want them to come out and start lying to Nigerians. Finally, the solution to this messy situation is to diversify the economy and diversification can never be done in a day except God himself comes out and does it. In essence, the messy situation will persist for a while, except oil prices miraculously jumps back up. I appear not too bothered because I have a bit of an understanding of the magnitude of the rot and also know it cannot be cleared in a day; you cant feel too disappointed when you don't expect too much. |

Nairalanders as usual turned it to a tribal war, saying it'd because she is Yoruba and not igbo.
We have seen investors flee Nigeria, Inflation rise to 13%, job losses etc.
All this linked to lack of economic direction .
Today she was in an interview and claimed ignorant of a lot of vital figures . This seemed like the channels TV interviewers were more informed than she was on our economy.
My fear and question now is, If you don't have information on the figures of the past and the current excess crude account figures, Then what figures are they planning for the future with?
So there is not future projection ? What figures is this govt planning with?
It seems like this administration is counting on luck. Please someone should tell them that economics works with principles and not luck.
Blamed the previous administration for not saving and also saying they are not saving.
Saying money will be pumped into the economy is not a solution. pumping money into the economy is never a solution as it will end up in the toilet.
The money that will be pumped into the economy is our money and will be spent and disappear.
As long as you don't have foreign investment coming in, we will just consume our money on ourselves or like spending capital feeling ur making progress without making any profit . Fake/exploitative foreign investors don't take their money to places where there is no money; the new ones ignore such a location and the old ones pack their bags and leave. You don't need to be reminded that there is a severe scarcity of funds in Nigeria presently, do you? Also, with the nation relying on only oil for foreign exchange, I'm sure you don't need an explanation as to why there is a scarcity of forex? When there is a scarcity of a commodity, I'm sure you understand based on the principle of demand and supply, the reason why the value of this commodity goes up?... Finally, with the sky-rocketing cost of obtaining forex especially in an import dependent nation, I'm sure you shouldn't need an explanation to know why the cost of goods and services would go up (inflation)? |

The question which your govt has not answered is for how long do you continue to bail out despite the fact that the states are unable to pay your said 'loans' & asking for more. Buhari is just spending & spending, borrows & keeps borrowing more to continue spend without creating wealth creation avenues. Your pointless insistence that bailout is being received by APC states, and then you even go ahead to mention names of some APC states, this speaks volumes of your intellectual capacity. luvinhubby: Buhari spent 1st day in office spending $3.5 billion of NLNG savings as compensation to APC governors in the name of bail outs to state governors who ended up squandering same. He also spent an additional N500 billion through supplementary appropriation. And this he spent from previous harvest with fresh planting. A very unintelligent argument, such a shallow and unintelligent analysis. A debt is a debt, the FG from August 2014 owed fuel marketers their subsidies running over N500bn and owing them indefinitely is certainly not economic wisdom or a virtue, especially when the importers had already downed tools leading to massive fuel scarcity. Secondly, the FG gave out 'loans' in the form of bailouts to states owing salaries in order to ease the sufferings of the masses who were being owed several months of their salary. The FG belongs to Nigeria and represents the interests of Nigerians; if your own smart idea of good leadership is having the FG abandon its own people to die of hunger (even when it could do something), then my friend, your reasoning is quite pathetic. You probably prefer the people to suffer and die of hunger so you can have something to accuse Buhari of; such evil and repugnant way to reason. Lastly you claimed the bailouts were given to APC states, that is another case of stark self-inflicted shameless ignorance you just exhibited there; out of the 27 states which were rundown and unable to pay workers, 16 were PDP ruined states. And even just recently, we've seen protests from workers in Bayelsa and doctors in Ondo lamenting the non-payment of over 5 months salaries; even Osun state has managed to clear a major chunk of its backlog. Meanwhile these are 2 oil producing, 13% derivation munching PDP states. But even after receiving bailouts, they are still asking for more; there goes the folly in your argument that APC states are taking bailouts. |

luvinhubby: That is Buhari for you. On the contrary, your farmer has all the features of your GEJ. By the way, I'm still unsure of the essence of this your farming analogy because I think it even helps buttress my own point. A lousy farm manager distributes all the grains in the barn to the people, the people eat, drink and make merry while feasting on their reserves and praising the farm manager. Fast-forward to the new farming season, there is a drought and a shortage of seeds to plant and even to eat. Coincidentally, the period of this shortage coincides with when a new farm manager takes over; and here we are, the best analysis and conclusion coming from some people who pride in their wisdom and intelligence is that, "when the former farm manager was there, things were good and we were eating, drinking and making merry. But since the new manager came in, we've been hungry. It must totally be the new manager's fault." No reference was made to the drought and no reference was made to the indiscretions and prodigality of the previous farm manager; such an interesting way to reason. |

Ans: I don't want to hold brief for anybody. But even if the states did not save, the FG should have saved its own portion
* Are we now saving excess funds? Ans: No we are not savings because you cannot save when you are borrowing. We are borrowing and struggling to pay salaries
* How much money has been recovered so far? Ans: I don't have that figure
* What is the current amount in excess crude account? Ans: I don't have that figure. You (Maupe) quoted it sometime ago. I think it is $2.1b or $2.2b, I am not sure of the amount.
* We have some people complaining of TSA, eg ASUU: We are working with universities and CBN to see if we can grant exemption to them
* They put a blame on govt on leakages. Is it something your ministry can fight? Ans: Absolutely. Last year, we spend N19b on roads and N64b on travels. We are trying to limit travels and the flight class of various govt officials.
* How are limiting leakages in govt? Ans: We are trying to introduce debit cards for routine govt expenditures. * Has this debit card kicked off? Ans: No we are trying to get proposals from 3 banks, then we shall go through learning process
* How are you aligned with CBN on fiscal and monetary policies. CBN should be doing monetary, and your ministry should be looking at fiscal. Ans: We are trying to align.
Are you in IMF programme? Ans: No we are not IMF programme.
* Do we have an economic Team? Ans: We have an economic team
* It will shock you that Nigerians do not know those who are members of the economic team. Ans: (Becomes upset) Don't you know the ministers? Don't you know me. VP Osibanjo, Min of State & budget, Min of Info, Head of DMO, etc are members
* What is the Economic blueprint? Ans: We are going to invest in infrastructure. We are going to diversify the economy. This is not my first encounter, it has always been been a recurring incident I see... I felt sad, my compatriots were treated like that by security agents, but on a second thought, perhaps this people understands that they are animals and needs pummeling to act right...

Are Nigerians Animals? It is a confirmed fact that we behave like animals, but the reason why is still a mystery to me. |

Very shallow analysis and conclusion expected from only uneducated, unenlightned artisans. Just like someone above mentioned, if you cut down a tree from the root, the leaves would still be relatively fresh, but give it a couple of days, and the green leaves would begin to wither and eventually dry off. In our case, the leaves had already began to wither even before handover of power; and after handover, it has withered even further. Investors dont go to a market where there is no money. Nigeria squandered its resources and then lost its source of income. Investors dont come as humanitarians, they come to reap money, and when a system lacks money, they stay away. Nigeria has a lot to do in diversifying its economy and until the economy is properly diversified with money flowing again in the system, investors will stay away. |
