godoluwa: will North support it? Is the north more powerful or even more populated than the rest of Nigeria?... And remember we talk mainly of the NW and NE here? Remember what happened in the 2011 elections?... The entire north voted Buhari but he lost woefully and you know why?... That was because the SE + SS + SW + NC voted for GEJ. The reason true federalism may never be possible is not because of the north, rather it is because of the foolishness of the south (specifically the SW and SE) to forcefully ask for it in unison. Instead of strategising and pushing for this, the SE seems to always jump into the option of running away from Nigeria and the plan seems to be to drag the SS along. There is no doubt that any secession of the SE today without at least some parts of the SS would be foolhardy. But with the present retrogressive economic arrangement of Nigeria, no other zone (including the SS) would permit that to happen. The only feasible thing is to build proper bridges with the SS (not the present kind of "we voted your son" bridge) and also an alliance with the SW and the middlebelt to fight in one voice for true federalism. That is the only feasible option. |

godoluwa: u mean Nnamdi Kanu & the Bishop are little kid as well? do you mean that a Nigerian cant own a property in UK because hes a Nigerian or Ghanian cant own a property or investment in Nigeria because he is Ghanian? ur comment makes me lmfao The hatred the UK/Ghanaian man has for a typical Nigerian (if any) is insignificant when compared to the hatred different tribes and regions within Nigeria have for each other. To worsen matters, the most vocal proponents of this very division (Kanu and his disciples) are hinging their campaign on the spread of pure tribal hatred (they strangely call it enlightenment). With the kind of toxic words Kanu and his followers have spread in their campaign, assuming Biafra finally breaks, you would be extremely myopic if you think the relationship (economic and social) between Nigeria and Biafra would be as cordial as present day Nigeria vs Ghana/UK. South Sudan is still a very fresh case study; old age is not necessarily a criteria for wisdom, Igbos have more than 50% of their investments outside the SE. The best option is true federalism, and that I am sure the entire SS, SW and even NC would support. |

godoluwa: North has food crop, let them go & enjoy it. SW has food crop, mineral resource let them go. SS/SE has oil, its ok Any splitting of Nigeria today will only lead to further in-fighting and splitting. A proper federalism is the answer, not splitting especially when Igbos already have investments all over Nigeria. Everyday it becomes more and more obvious that the loudest voices calling for splitting are either spoon fed students or struggling adults who don't give a damn about others who are already established. I can't point out any African society that got better after balkanisation. And by the way, what's this frequent talk about SS and SE oil?... The last time I checked, it was purely SS oil feeding the entire nation cos the oil produced in the SE is as insignificant as the oil produced in the SW. |

It would amount to sheer unpatriotism if i fail to appreciate what BRF said, but he should not get our hopes up and then Bleep up like they do always.
I have come to realise that if you dont expect anything from this government, you wont be dissapointed Yeah you are right, we keep going back and forth; today we have 5000mw production, tomorrow power falls to 1000mw, and in the peak of rainy season, it peaks again at 5000mw. It is not really about having a high production capacity, but rather about maintaining the production at the peak capacity. Completion of most of the incomplete and long abandoned power plants which litter the nation could increase our generation to 10,000mw, but can generation really be maintained at that level? |

Rayhutar: At the bolded, I wonder why Nigeria government cannot build another standard Airport in Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt and make it very attractive so that if you are flying from Abroad to Nigeria, you fly directly to Kano, Enugu to East, Port Harcourt to SS and Lagos to the West that will create alot of Job, Build a standard sea and river port in Onitsha, Akwa Ibom,Imo, Kogi and Kaduna that will open up inland water transport and reduce the pressure on road transport, like goods and services can be transported easily from Onitsha to Kogi, Kaduna. The very same reason why a Nigeria which could build brand new roads with money from palm oil, cocoa, groundnuts etc, but with much more money made from crude oil, we are struggling to maintain these roads, that same issue is the reason why Nigeria is unable to upgrade those airports at Kano, Enugu and Portharcourt and that is also the reason why all seaports in Nigeria have been allowed to die while we overstress the last surviving ports at Lagos. The problem is a problem of leadership cutting across several zones and states and ethnic groups. |

macluvph1: @Obailala, I like your write up(I like people who criticize and give reasons for their criticism) but our opinion differs here because i am of the opinion that we will do better as a divided nation,my reasons are as follows:
Our present country has been designed to favour some regions in terms of employment(Quota system)making the other region to be a conquered territory and this alone cripples patriotism and morale of people from that region.
Our present country has made policies that indirectly made the operations and activities of the seaports/airports in the marginalized region to be less attractive compared to the other regions that rapour with the so called super region(Hausa/Fulani).
We will do better as a divided nation because competition among the separated country will come up especially between the old eastern region and old western region and these competition will lead to more developments in the two different countries.
We will do better as a separate countries because we can easily hold our representatives accountable and tell them to their face whatever they are doing wrong(Okorocha speech at chattam House a case study), but if we remain one the corrupt leaders will be jumping all this atrocious act easily because once their tenure elapse they can easily settle in Abuja or leave the country because they know once they go back home that his people doesn't tolerate rubbish(Especially south eastern region, Ezeife of Old Anambra state can attest to this because of what happened to him by his kindreds because he couldn't construct a single road in his village while he was constructing other village roads when their administration were cut short by the military) but as a multi ethnic group made politicians to escape prosecution easily because they can easily instigate their people that he wasn't permitted to work because of other tribe attitude in his ministry/department/portfolio/designate.
As a divided country, i think people will be closer to the government because the area square metre to be governed will be minimized and it will make everybody to easily identify with the federal/state/local govt to sort out the various problems they have(Eg someone from PH can go to Enugu for an occassion/appointment and still return back to PH that same day)been facing as a citizen of that country.
Industries will be promoted more as a divided country because tribalism will be relegated or minimized to the lowest level,if not outrightly eliminated and the government will always promote policies that will favors his people because they have same belief(Eg Igbos are egaliterian in nature while the northerners are oligarch in nature).
As a divided country, ministries(Embassies and federal government structures/offices)will be nearer to the people which will reduce the amount people spent on going to either lagos or Abuja for their visas to travel outside the country.
Lastly, but not the list to be continued later is that as a separate country hidden good talents will begin to emanate/come out because now tribalism is not longer the cankerwarm that will make their God given talents not to be hidden is gone, both the quota, nepotism et al will be gone and when this has taken place you will observe that inventions will begin and technologies will also improve.
So the summary of what am saying is that TRIBALISM has really eaten deep that no remedy can salvage the situation. The only point I really agree with you 100% is the singular cankerworm called quota system which has held Nigeria backwards for decades. If there is any form of division I would support, it is a north-south divide or pure regionalism and nothing more. Developed and advanced nations across the world are looking for ways to come together and that is for a good reason, however in Africa, all we talk of is division. I can assure you that the other issue you mentioned such as the government being close to the people etc will not bring about any positive change. I could dare you to point out any society which really got better after division in Africa. We've divided states, we've divided LGAs countless times, but can we really point out how that helped us to get better governance?.... The best governors we've ever had since Nigerian history (e.g. Dee Sam Mbakwe) led the mega states of Imo and Abia combined. Can we say we've had better leadership since those states were divided?.... I'm sure we all know the answer to that to be a capital NO. The point is simple, there's a serious dearth of leadership, people get to power for the very wrong reasons and the true patriotic and visionary people will never be allowed by even you and I to get into power for some of the most flimsy reasons. No amount of division can solve the problem of leadership deficit. |

PreyingMantis: From the look of things, it seems Nigerians made a very grave mistake last year. The bunch of clowns on board now look determined to finish off the country before 2019. Please don't mention corruption... The 2016 Budget of Shame is a pointer to what is actually going on... Massive and unprecedented corruption. We'll hear the full gist when the next administration takes over in 2019. Nigerians will definitely speak with their voter cards. Of course even though it stares us in the face, we do not see it. Nigerians did not make any mistake in booting out the business-as-usual crew. Do not deceive yourself or let yourself to be deceived, there is nothing 'unprecedented' about the corruption which almost played out in the 2016 budget. It has always been the tradition since time immemorial but for the very fact that Nigeria is growing in the positive direction, this fraud would never have been spotted or if spotted, little bribes would have been given and the filth covered up (as long as NASS gets their share). Now even though the budget has been cleaned thoroughly by the NASS, the president has refused to assent to the budget pending when he personally takes his time to meticulously scrutinise each figure ministry by ministry to ensure we get the cleanest budget in history. Once again, do not let yourself to be deceived, that budget padding was spotted and resisted in 2016 does not mean it started in 2016. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-budget-idUSKCN0WX2JUhttp://sundiatapost.com/2016/04/01/buhari-to-check-nigeria-budget-ministry-by-ministry-before-signing/ |

Enough of all these blame games. For the person asking why Rochas is in APC, what sort of shameless hypocrisy is that?... You have supported PDP with your life to date and your PDP was in power for 16 freaking years and this bridge wasnt built and you saw absolutely nothing wrong in that. Now you want APC to build by force, a bridge which your darling PDP refused to build and you go ahead to put the blame on Rochas and Buhari?.... Why didn't you place the blame on the countless number of PDP governors from the SE that did nothing while PDP held sway for 16 years?... Now the report says Julius Berger left the site mid-2015 due to non-funding of the project; can someone please remind me who prepared the budget for 2015?.... Of course you all saw nothing wrong in that cos it was your darling GEJ but you choose to heap the blame on the Buhari whom you love to hate, a Buhari who only just got his first budget passed last week? Furthermore, none of you bothered to comment on the issue of the community protesting and blocking work because they want more compensation. I suppose this community is Daura and Buhari is also their chief right? Not long ago, an allegation was made of $700million drawn from the sovereign wealth fund for this very bridge but the funds were later diverted to other things. All of you jumped into defensive mode defending your darling GEJ and his works minister but today you blame the hausa Buhari for lack of funds to continue this project? This shameless hypocrisy and irrational emotions is sickening indeed. Just FYI, nobody is cancelling the 2nd Niger bridge, it is the very misguided emotions I mentioned above that is making you guys and your ilk peddle falsehood and wail continuously over this bridge just to justify your irrational hatred for Buhari. Buhari's works minister has constantly announced that completing this bridge is one of his biggest priorities together with the Lagos-Ibadan road. N17bn has also been budgeted for this bridge in Buhari's first budget. Just last week, Buhari's finance minister announced the release of a N350billion stimulus package to ensure contractors quickly return to site on several PDP abandoned projects, she made special reference to this very bridge. http://www.punchng.com/n350bn-package-lagos-ibadan-expressway-2nd-niger-bridge-to-benefit/So if I may ask, if not for the sake of intentionally spreading falsehood to justify your hatred for Buhari (who by the way does a very good job at ignoring your rants), what else is the purpose of peddling this falsehood about cancellation of 2nd Niger bridge just a week after the finance minister announced that funds have been released for it?

mapet: This my address is to the Igbo folks who are wailing here like the foolish and the ignorant
1. Believe Authority newspapers at your own peril. It is simply a tool to push bigotry and falsehood 2. When Fashola was defending his budget with the Senate committee, and there were subtle protests about the budget not covering their sections and constituencies, Fashola mentioned that FG was concentrating on "Economic Roads", which are roads that offers equitable distribution of FG's offering to all parts of the country. The first on the list of "Economic Roads" mentioned is Second Niger Bridge 3. Just last week the Finance minister mentioned FG's N350b intervention to rejig the Economy. Second Niger Bridge tops the list of projects that the funds would be chanelled to. 4. So you want to tell me within a week the government will change their mind, after securing a budget approval for it? Why are we allowing fools to get into our heads? Someone sits down and concort falsehood, and we all make it our ethos? The same way we allowed a lazy and bigot ThisDay journalist to concort the famed "...we will not rest until sharia is practiced to all parts of Nigeria" and credit it as statment made by Buhari, when this journalist did not attend the event and neither speaks hausa.
Who are the enemies here? If we're to believe the report, 1. You will wonder why some communities are putting personal greed over national interest. You will wonder why governors in the state had not gone there to put these so called communities in their places. When a Lekki community were disturbing Dangote Refinery, Fashola went there and gave them a stern warning, today the Refinery is on target to commissioning in 2018. I dare ask why the governors, elders, Senator and HORs from SE had not taken this as a collective responsibility to meet the communities and resolve the logjam 2. PMB is hated for what is not founded, yet Onolememen is not questioned for the yet to be explained $700m? 3. How come an inconsequential statistic is the source of information? "An employee of the firm (name withheld) who claimed he was recruited in April 2014 at the site of the bridge, admitted that Julius Berger had stopped work at the project site since June 2015 due to non-funding by the Federal Government." 4. At times I wonder if our conscience works right. We prefer to lie against someone, despite knowing the negative consequences and also prefer to ignore, when we know it will put is in bad light. The enemies of the second Niger bridge was explined by Sir Ziggy Azike -
"https://www.nairaland.com/2602228/truth-second-niger-bridge-chibuzo-n" The truth of the matter is that emotions blocks the ability of people to reason. I have since established this fact from the wailing game of the wailers. |

Politicians in Nigeria are all criminals that are just after their pocket both APC and PDP because they know that Nigeria is no mans land. My thinking is this, the myriad of problems facing Nigeria are very well known to all. Like you rightly mentioned, politicians in Nigeria are criminals and these criminal politicians are not restricted to any tribe or religion, they cut across the entire divide and I believe this dearth of patriotic leadership is the biggest problem. So in view of this, what I do not understand is how someone starts a movement preaching more hate along tribal lines as the solution to the problems. How on earth can dividing the country into a million parts solve these problems you've just highlighted?... Why do Africans always think that further division is a solution to a problem even when from history, it is a known fact that division only leads to further division? To then compound it all, it is the tribe with the widest economic spread that is calling for this further division; it is a known fact that if there's a division in Nigeria today especially in the way the separatists are calling for it, the biggest economic and social losers would be Igbos but I just wonder why the principal agitators seem to ignore this fact. Sometimes it drives me to believe these main agitators are just never-do-well 'bad-belles' who want to pull all their 'doing-fine' brothers down. We have not sorted our leadership problems in the grassroot (States govts, LGAs and representatives), but someone thinks a division is an automatic panacea for all our problems? |

Remember, SLS only stated that $49bn was unaccounted for, he never stated that is was stolen. After several explanations and submission of documentary evidence by NNPC, the amount was later reduced to $20bn; in essence, NNPC eventually came up and accounted for about $29bn by providing those documents/receipts. This is something very simple to understand. The only reason why it became a scandal was because upon hearing of the unaccounted figure, instead of allowing nnpc to come forward and explain, the president took it personal and started denying and denouncing SLS claiming that SLS was trying to embarass his govt. The last time I checked, SLS never accused GEJ of stealing any money but the president's strange reaction certainly made him look guilty. Tell me I'm wrong? |

Zombie! chudionu58: You made no sense whatsoever with respect to the facts I laid bare earlier thereby justifying my earlier stance on your person. 1. You have silently recanted your earlier postulation that the project was awarded by Yar'Adua! True or False? 2. According to your gospel "As a thorough bred Nigerian who understands the double speak of dubious politicians"...Interesting. Have you ever condemned APCs double speak and barefaced lies?? 3. With respect to your last sentence, Jonathan never left Roads in the South East to deteriorate; as he tried as much to spread our resources to zone! which made him a true Nigerian. Meanwhile, go ahead and report me as you thoroughly deserve any name I've called you. @Myndd44, Rule 2 is being broken here continuously, Am I allowed to respond to this? |

porka: How come these funds are not said to be 'stolen'?
Why are they merely, 'not remitted'? The last time I checked, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi also never stated that the NNPC funds were stolen. He only said the funds were unremitted/unaccounted for. |

AnneMomoh: The Same investigation under PMB on Budget Padding: and no one has been sacked or convicted?
Hmmmmm.. neocortex: The same investigation that happened to the padded budget ? The budget padding incident was investigated, Buhari called for an investigation and he vowed to punish those found wanting. Eventually, several people including the director of the budget office lost their jobs and the investigations are still ongoing even as the NASS took up the responsibility to properly scrutinise and clean the budget. Unlike Jonathan, Buhari did not claim the padding story was a lie even before investigations, and he did not develop instant paranoia by claiming it was his political opponents that made up the padding stories. When real leaders get to hear of such allegations, they call for an investigation. That is the difference between both leaders and it is very clear. |

STFUand4kMeHARD: And they called jonathan names. In circumstances like this, do you want to know the difference between this administration and the last one? Under PMB: An investigation would be ordered and NNPC would be made to come out clean and explain the exact reason they aren't remitting funds. If their explanations don't hold water, they would be made to submit the funds. Under GEJ: Upon hearing this story, GEJ in his unusually paranoid ways would quickly jump into defensive mode by becoming the spokesperson of NNPC. He would swiftly grant an interview where he would claim the report was generated by his political opponents to 'embarrass' his government; he would do this even before carrying out an investigation. |
