Alepa: Show us what you eat as lunch . Or brunch. Stop saying nonsense. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this . Even food vendors here in the west sell food inside nylon for people . Stop making a mountain out of an ant hill. If these kids were given plates and spoons . Many of these plates will be destroyed. Or . Let’s assume they want to take them back and wash them so the kids can use them again . There’s no way these plates and spoons will be washed clean . Well. You don’t have to agree with me . But there’s nothing wrong with this food inside nylon Bros feeding small children noodles is counterproductive as it is not nutritious. Secondly, even if for whatever reason standard plates and cutlery are not available to serve the food, there is something in this day and age known as DISPOSABLE TAKE AWAY PACKS. Bro let's not try to justify what is wrong. Billions have been earmarked towards this programme for our children to be treated this way. They deserve much better and you know it. |

Throwback: Are you too daft to understand what she wrote in her resignation? Or did you read that she left Nigeria as a teenager to go study in a university abroad, thereby necessitating the customary return to Nigeria that only exist in your own imagination?
She only visited Nigeria with her British passport on occasions. She was never a resident of Nigeria until she was 34yrs. Till today, her parents still reside in the UK where she was born.
Her interests in Nigeria only began long after she had passed the age to serve. Many Nigerians born and resident in the UK have graduated below the age of 30yrs, yet they do not come to Nigeria for any NYSC because they do not have any business with Nigeria besides visiting when a grandparent died or a cousin was wedding.
That they do not have any interest with Nigeria now does not mean they might not show an interest later.
These are the same type of Nigerians that are daily celebrated here on this forum, as working with Google or Facebook or NASA or the White House. Nigerians in the diaspora, like the ones that were on hand to receive the vice president when he visited Google in the US. Nigerians that don't even know that anything called NYSC exist as it remains irrelevant to them, until the day they decide they want to be Nigerians and not American or Briton.
So by default she made enquires about securing an exemption, and one was certainly obtained through her associates from NYSC but fake. It was not obtained under the bridge at Obalende. It was certainly obtained from NYSC officials who gave a document that was not the legitimate issue.
Many Nigerians currently hold particulars that they think is legitimate having been obtained at the legitimate relevant government office, yet they are invalid. It's you that is too daft to understand the NYSC law which is quite explicit in stating that provided you're Nigerian and finished school under 30, it is mandatory to serve. You only obtain a certificate of exemption if you finish over 30. Living outside the shores of the country all your life does not exclude you from the dictates of the law. After all, Ignorance is no excuse for contravention of the law. So even if she made an honest mistake due to wrong advice that doesn't absolve her of guilt. The discussion now should be towards reviewing the NYSC law for situations as this but as the law stands now, provided she wanted to serve in public office in Nigeria and not private practice, she should have served. Yes she did the right thing to resign, albeit late but should go one step further to return all monies she has earned in public office using this fake certificate. As for those who it is rumoured have engineered this scandal for political gains, the onus is on EFCC and the DSS to assiduously work to investigate these claims and if confirmed mercilessly expose and prosecute the perpetrators. |

Sleekfingers: I just don't understand. Why not gather ample evidence against him. If there is any. And then charge him. Not all these media trials. I am not supporting any corrupt element. But there should be enough evidence. You need to understand how things like this work. In a developed country, when scandals like this break with allegations levelled against a public officer immediately investigations commence to verify the authenticity or otherwise of the claims made. However, in a country like Nigeria, investigations appear to be selective unfortunately. Till today no one seems to know what is happening concerning the Adeosun NYSC certificate saga. |

Oluromantic: Those 2 ladies (officialblessing_tee and irene) are super idiots, so unreasonable, I doubt if they went to school sef... No sign of enlightenment in them at all. Did miracle ever opened his mouth to propose love to nina? Who asked Nina to be foolish enough to dump her bf because of small fame.
Both if them met in d house and gave Nigerians what they wanted to see. Throughout their stay in d house, Nina gave recognition to her bf(collins) which I think is good but her young age didn't make her follow him up after their arrival from the house..that's childish abt her, she ought to have respected her bf and honour him with a first visit after d house.
Very stupid comment. What kind of recognition involves having sex with another guy continuously on live TV? If na you, would you have taken her back after the public betrayal and humiliation except perhaps she won the show and you wanted the money?
Miracle on his side was very rational, he did what he had to do to win. He did all in d name of d game..that's what bbnaija is all about...it was obvious, he didn't fall in love like tobi falling for this and that.. D guy was focused..I like am die! You cant force a man against his will..No No! A man who remains focused will always cause pandemonium for unfocused ladies.
If he fell for the 22 year old (someone not mature enough to handle the fame she's getting exposed to), na so she go dump am for another richer man until she reach her final bustop of single-motherhood at 33. |

budaatum: The government? You mean you and I, right? If you do, then the answer is that we actually do. But trust us to screw it up.
A government led initiative to form a cooperative for cassava growers was initiated in my home town. Those who joined had to own 4 acres of land to grow cassava, pay 1000 naira registration fee and 50 naira for meeting minutes every meeting with other fees added on as time went by. In return, a loan of 250k would be given, with a guarantee purchase of the cassava. Except when I attended a meeting, of the 100 or so other people attending, only about 15 did I know who were farmers, and less than half looked like they'd ever step foot on a farm.
Now, I grew cassava on approximately 2 plots, 200*100metres², of land. My land, not being the best for it means I shouldn't imagine harvesting in a year, which the loan was for, and better wait 2 years for a decent sized yield. In which time, apart from planting, which includes preparing the land, I would clear weeds at least 3 times at 4000naira a pop.
When I eventually harvested, I was offered 15k for my cassava. Which at 6 plots an acre means I'd get 45k for an acre and 4 times that for 4. Now you do the maths. Wouldn't I have been unable to pay back the 250k, plus interest, plus cost of growing the cassava? It's why the coop was called "gbe omu le lanta" (place your tits on a lantern), to denote the worrying you'd have to do in order to pay back the money! When I pointed this out to people, I was kindly told to take my Oyinbo head back to where I'd been deported from because it seems, "you don't know how things are done here". They all thought I'd have to have been deported if being a farmer back in what could best be described as "a village", was what I'd decided to go home and do. And I didn't disabuse them of their thinking though the real reason was to spend time with my father.
On further investigation, I found out that most of the people applying for the loan had no land to plant on and were being offered land to register for a fee of up to 20% of the eventual loan. They were told to do whatever they wanted with it and pay it back later, and my people, seeing a 'good thing', applied in droves. Except, after they'd paid the upfront fee for registering the fake land, and the 1000 naira and so many meeting minute and other fees (over 7500 naira in total per person in the end), the 250k did not materialise. The scheme got aborted because the government agency in charge of disbursing the money got whiff of the corrupt practises that had soiled the entire process.
It turned out the same scheme had been offered to maize growers, pig farmers, fish breeders and so on, and was a repeat of a similar scheme from 7 years prior where people who had borrowed the money ( it had materialised then) were unable to pay and ran away from town and those who did pay back had burnt tits.
See, we talk about corruption, but it wasn't the government scamming my people. We, the people, were the ones scamming ourselves! And until we learn to do things better amongst ourselves, cooperatively, with no underlying selfish motives, the next best thing is to rely on individual enterprise and self interest, give you 10k, call it a loan, and hope you'd pay it back in promise for more.
Better would be to spend all that money on providing electricity, of course. But we've done that so many times over in the past and are still living in the dark! You do tell a good story but the experience in your locality need not be what occurs everywhere. Either way, if there is deliberate intent to enforce proper disbursement and utilisation of apportioned funds, then a rigorous monitoring program will be implemented. Microfinance institutions are currently making majestic profits year on year lending to cooperatives so it may be an idea to understudy them if government agencies are unable to replicate same effectively on their own. |
Food › Re: Why Nigerian Rice Is Expensive And Scarce - Fatimah Aliyu by obi58: 2:09pm On Aug 30, 2018 |
Mcreloaded: The problem with local rice is that its too expensive because I know that Ekpoma rice which is sweeter has always been more expensive than foreign imported rice and because of its nutritional values I can tell you that people like us that have means and are well to do can never eat imported rice because its polished and striped of its nutritional value.
Electricity is the sole problem of high cost of production. Not only in rice production but in all other business so please this government should stop looking for excuses or who to blame but rather work on electricity and see all aspects of the economy grow Don't say what you don't know. Can you prove the imported rice is devoid of nutrients? Till tomorrow no one has heard of deaths related to consumption of foreign rice. You don't need to knock another person's product to project yours. As for the government well.... 3 years down the line and in spite of all the media propaganda the truth is still out there that people still consume far more foreign rice than local. The so called lake rice that we expected to have fully established it's market share especially in Lagos is still a seasonal product. |
