Oboy, give Udom 100%... Well 75% is still distinction
Give Udom 100% for what?

Our roads that are now falling apart?
The so called pencil factory that till date the product is not in the market?
Prepaid metering company who's meters are nowhere to be found?
Our people that are closing their businesses due to lack of patronage to become bus drivers?

Till tomorrow no one is talking about the ikot ekpene Sheraton or the Uyo Hilton or even the aircraft maintenance facility built in the previous administration.

Please stop all this paid promo. The Akwaibom people are not deceived. Akpabio did 500 times more and still shared the money around.

Even interministerial contracts have dried up.

Udom should stop all these paid adverts and let his work speak for him. Look at what his mate Wike is doing in Rivers not going to launch foundation when people are launching completed projects.

He knows he has the big shoes of his predecessor to fill but is instead massively underperforming.

I'm not supposed to reply you but let me do it once. The picture Reno attached to the report is what the guy has a problem with. You post a report that was compiled this year and attach to it a picture of similar report from last year when the situation was much more worse than it is this year. That's what the guy is talking about. Reno knows this and I strong suspect you are him since he is here on nairaland cheering the likes of firefire (and going by his level of stupidity, that guy could be FFK grin).
So the problem is the picture not the volume of Nigerians added to the unemployment market.... Interesting...

He has been doing that intentionally to deceive you iddiots for a while now and this guy busted him and now he is trying to act Godly and "gentlemanly" but the guy isn't having none of it

Was this released by NBS?

So what's the barking and wailing about?

Even if Reno lied on this (which is not the case here but just saying) Can his lie compare to the legion of lies by Otunba Lie Lie?

Well in my own opinion, the idea of reviving the national carrier is a great one.

However, I think it is a tad premature because the focus of the government should be towards revitalising the avaiation industry and where possible reflating the existing airlines that are currently flailing due to crippling running costs, excessive taxation and low patronage.

We should first identify reasons why Nigeria Airways and Virgin Nigeria failed and learn from those failures first. Why is this one going to be different? What is being done differently this time around?

The focus for now should be towards providing an enabling environment to foster the growth of the avaiation sector and encourage more patronage by providing incentives to make air travel more available and accessible to common Nigerians.

With a population of 200million there is huge potential for growth but just the same way GSm telephony grew when the cost of sim cards fell, same should be done for air travel to boost domestic demand.

Thank God you understand that the Nigeria Government is plagued with inefficiencies.. But in the case of Nigeria, there are several factors to be considered as the inefficiencies, such as; Cultural differences, high Power Distance Index, the psycology of Individualism, Religion are all factors that are against the Government from rapidly gaining more capacity to centralize its operations.

Kindly go and check what brought about the failure of the first NigerianAir in 2003, it was sheer Mismanagement, Corruption and overstaffing, something that will later be refer to as Economical Inviable simply because the Government was bleeding cash and couldn't get returns on it's expenditures.

Come to think of it, isn't it highly viable for the government to reduce involvement in businesses like this in order to reduce the hands of corrupt ruffians by giving it out to Private capitalist; we all know that capitalist will never want to loose cash and they also have a well organized structure to run business like this.. pls come to think of it, federal governments 5% involvement is just $300M meaning that the Airway worth over $600Billion in total.. Can Nigeria Government afford to really dash out such huge amount on common Airways?? Let's be a Nigeria citizen by been empathic, that is all the Government require of us and not comparism with other Government whosr system is totally different from ours..
Oga the issue is to eliminate corruption in government circles instead of ransoming our common wealth on the altar of capitalism when absolutely nothing is being done to improve social welfare of the citizenry

Privatisation is the future way of Governing, in the coming years, what we call government property now will all be outsource for efficiency sake..

All Government need to do is take taxes, Commission & Standardize Projects through PM, Strengthen it's Social Maintenance Culture e.t.c. Boy, do you think the Nigerian Governing body are total fools? Then you know nothing
Government everywhere is saddled with the responsibility of capacity building. Government can be more efficient in the discharge of their duties and you know it. Let's stop justifying their inefficiency as if that was why they were elected into office just to collect taxes and give excuses for failures.

Everything that goes onto the education they provide. power, water, labs, salaries, structures etc. stop the excuses.
Bro you should stop the excuses.

Let the institutions prove with independent audited financial statements what they are currently using their fund inflows for and if they are being efficiently used.

Also any university worth its salt, should be able to provide innovative solutions to help improve the quality of education and the standard they offer. For example, provide free land for private investors to develop quality hostel accommodation at subsided rates for students whilst spreading costs and profits over the long term.

I didn't have the time to read all this, but private universities don't give grants. Harvard and co are the most expensive schools in the world.

Just like Nigeria, u can only enjoy all those in public schools

Again, there's no basis for argument - university education isn't meant for everyone.

We must fix our technical schools so that technicians in China, US and India don't come here and show us skills that university graduates don't even have
You are part of the educational decay because if you read all I wrote, you would have inferred that the focus of my write up was on public tertiary institutions like Lautech and the failure/inadequacy of government's current administration of that sector and it's funding. I also asked questions about why our technical schools have been allowed to run aground where they are even available. Also, do your research public schools in the Us do offer student loans, scholarships and grants. There are also job centers to help provide employment for students willing to do some work on the side towards making a little cash to pay back and make ends meet.

It is common knowledge fed uni gets 11billion in addition to about 2-4 billion extra from tetfund and revenues. Unilag has 40,000 student and that gives us another means of estimating the average cost of educating a student yearly.

These are easily verifiable facts so stop saying they are mere funding campaign strategy.
Do the math bro, using your facts, 11b divided by 400k students is 27500 per student. Where then is the 300k subsidy? Now apart from these subventions, schools still generate funds from sundry fees including but not limited to tuition so Bro don't justify the unjustifiable.

Also you were talking about subsidy for amongst other things labs..... For real.... LABShuh Which labs are equipped?

You mentioned salaries..... Are salaries paid from subventions?

Power: How many institutions actually pay their utility bills?

How many hostels are in decent habitable shape and sanitary condition?

Bro get your head out your ass

I first heard it from Okebukola's mouth around 2006. Then just last year Unilags VC repeated same and hinted that unilag needs about N4.8m to properly educate a student but is getting only 300k plus. I can search out the link now.
Bro do you believe everything you hear? You should know it's just a gimmick to campaign for more and more funds and justify the abominable quality of education provided to the students today!

I asked you a simple question. What exactly is being subsidized? Is it the cost of books which are not provided or the overcrowded classrooms and filthy hostels or the ramshackle libraries or the decrepit laboratories?

What exactly is being subsidized?

If you have a class of 100 paying school fees of 100k each that is 10million naira per class in tuition alone! What other subsidy is being sought for?

Are you aware govt spends over N300, 000 to subsidize most students yearly? UI and UniLag are good examples. These student we love to tag as brilliant some aren't as brilliant as we paint them
Some paid 200k bribe in order to avoid going to expensive private unis and to enjoy govt subsidy. At the end of the day they grad and decide they don't want to work. The systems loses because we end up subsidizing unmotivated minds.
In other nations the strategy is to help people get loans or provide scholarship to entice the most brilliant minds. Haven't u heard of foreign lecturers who give scholarship to their students? You need exposure sir. Nigeria can't keep subsidizing peoples ego and certificate acquisition drive.
Whoever told you govt provides 300k subsidy is lying to you sir. Subsidize what exactly? Is it the overcrowded classrooms? Or perhaps the cost of handouts? Or the expired lab equipment? Or the ancient and torn books in the library?

We should be looking at enforcing standards in our institutions to ensure academic excellence and hard work whilst dealing decisively with exam malpractices, sorting/bribes, sex for marks, sale of handouts and all those unwholesome practices currently blighting our educational system. There is need for an urgent overhaul of our educational curriculum to reflect the economic realities of the working environment and equip our students with the necessary skills and competencies required.

Also there is urgent need for testing of the so called lecturers with view to weeding out the square pegs akin to what elrufai did in Kaduna.

Oga, stop ranting

Higher education is not cheap anywhere in the world

Nigeria must fix her vocational and technical schools

Higher education isn't made for everyone

Let's stop this madness

Go to serious countries in the world, their people hardly go beyond high school, including USA
Yeah right..... You're comparing yourself to schools in first world economics where indigenes pay less fees than international students and there are still a plethora of grants and student loans to choose from in spite of their minimum wage. You won't compare yourself to what fees are charged for quality tertiary education in nearby African countries like Ghana and Kenya.

Instead of shifting the burden of funding to the overburdened parents given the economic situation government should be held accountable for improving the standard and quality of education at all levels.

What exactly can we define to be quality education?

How much are lecturers paid as salaries today? How many of them are sponsored to receive the best training abroad to impart to our schools?

How many states, local governments, villages, churches and mosques are involved in provision of scholarships and financial aid services to the most deserving students and to aid wards within their vicinities with financial difficulties?

What is the quality of education and skill acquisition provided in our technical schools? Come to think of it... How well equipped and staffed are our technical schools?

How much of the national budget relative to what is obtainable worldwide is allocated to Education and how much of that budget is actually utilised for the intended purpose?

How effective is the oversight function of the Legislature in ensuring effective use of allocated funds to the sector?

How many of these universities can even account for the alleged insufficient subventions they receive from government? How many of these institutions can provide verifiable proof of how school fees are utilised in the administration of the school?

How many universities do you know that despite having professors in the faculties of Bus. As and Accounting are able to provide audited statements of account on yearly basis on all their inflows and outflows?

What percentage of corporate tax is allocated to Education and how many corporate organizations sponsor and are encouraged by government to sponsor educational development as part of their CSR? Why can't we have an education tax instead of value added tax?

Are these things not doable? Why must the students bear the brunt of the inaction and inefficiency of these stakeholders in the discharge of their duties towards ensuring qualitative education is made a reality in our educational institutions?

Our educational imbroglio is multifaceted and hydraheaded and it would be too plebian to just place the entire burden on the student. That will not improve the quality of the output as much as limit the quality of the input of the best brains into our educational institutions.
Government and not students has a key role to play in developing quality education in this country.

They are going to use Nigeriaair.gov.ng and he'll bite his bony fingers in regret.

By virtue of the Cybercrime Act 2015, he is guilty of cybersquatting and NIRA would retrieve the domains from him. He's liable to 2 years imprisonment and 2M fine. By the time the FG is through with him, he'll be begging the FG to collect the domains back.

However, considering how profligate this government is, if they can use 86M to cut the hair of a bald President, they would be willing to pay more for the domain names.
They won't use .gov.ng because it's supposed to be a private agency.

As regards the issue of the domain don't blame the guy for being sharp and doing what the government should have done before doing their media launch. Just monumental poor planning on the government's part.
