Politics / Re: Civil Servant Eating Amala And Fish While On Duty At Lagos High Court by occam(m): 4:08pm On Jan 30, 2013
nokingasgod: It's really amazing seeing Public/Civil Servants at work. Just last month, circumstances forced me to Orile Agege General Hospital. Right from the first minute i entered the hospital premises, it was drama all the way. THe absurdities was so pervasive that i thought i was sleeping and these are not true.

In one of the dramas, i needed to pay for some drugs and i got to the office where the drugs were to be costed. I was about number 10 on the queue and for about 10 minutes the queue was'nt moving and i can see in the office there were about 4 women who were supposed to be attending to us but they were busy gisting about the ''aso ebi'' that somebody brought in and comparing it with ....... I was on that queue for about 35 minutes before i took my turn.

Now i move to the payment point, here too i was about number 15 on the queue in front of a desk where there was nobody. Again, after about 10 minutes, i approached the adjoining office to seek for help about the where-about of whoever was supposed to be in charge, and i got a non-challant reply that i should go back to the queue as the person will soon come.

After about 30 minutes, the lady emerged majestically and one of his colleagues jokingly told her ''your people'' have been waiting and to my amazement, she replied ''let them wait now or will they say i must not eat'' showing off the bowl of rice she had gone to buy. I was praying to God, please wake me from this wicked sleep or at least give me the patience to bear it all. But to my utmost consternation, not sooner had she sat down that another lady who was not on the queue came in from no where and walked straight to her for the same service that we have been waiting for ages and she was attended to because according to her ''she is a staff now''. Only God knows how, but i viberated so much that a senior nursing officer came in from the inner office to pacify me. Obviously, i was mistaken for a senior civil servant because they were all pleading and saying that i should have introduced myself and i needed not to have queued.

I visited that hospital for four consecutive days and it was drama galore from all and sundry, the doctors, nurses, surgeons, gatemen, clerks etc and i prayed to God to forgive me of any sin that will warrant my visiting any public hospital again.

A very clear picture of the lack of professional attitude in the Nigerian work place. Your experience is not unique. This happens everyday in most offices in Naija. Sadly, it's accepted as normal.

Aside from the few tongue in cheek comments, I'm very alarmed that people do not see anything wrong with the guy eating while attending to customers.

ifeteminikan:
What do you think of security in Lagos recently?.

Almost everybody around me has witness one form of robbery or the other and i begin to wonder if the Government is aware and what they are doing about it.

1) My car was stolen around 9pm at gun-point in front of the house.
2) A member was recently robbed at gun-point infront of Shoprite at ikeja while in traffic
3) My brother's friends were robbed in front of their house @ gun-point too.
4) Two Family friends that just arrived from overseas last discovered that their bags had been torn and some items were missing at the airport.
5)A friend's husband was rough-handled on his street by two guys that wanted to snatch is wrist-watch.

I think most of this crimes are committed by the jobless youths that roam the streets as a result of the ban of okada, traffic hawkers etc in lagos now.

Government needs to create something for this guys to fall back on else the masses will continue to pay dearly for it.

Lets hear your experiences and what can be done to curtail this.

That's the work of "port rats" I had same experience last year and didn't notice anything until the next day

Don't they post their cars and houses? Why do they ask them what clothe they are wearing on the red carpet.

Designers provide clothes and jewels for free to celebrities to advertise. They don't pay a dime. Some smart actors/actress demand donation to their charity to put on these clothes.

Who will see or notice Okoye wearing a LV? nobody, except his buddies and hoes.

BTW, na so Lekki clean reach? Fashola must be working o

Just a buck per episode, so I'll take a dive later

lekki Wives? A different title will provide better context for non Nigerian audience. What is Lekki? a town, street?

Lol the Lakers missing the playoffs would be a monumental disgrace! It would also prove that D'
Antoni's misadventure with the Knicks wasn't just happenstance

For me the biggest issue is coaching! You could also argue that the GM Monsieur Kupchak probably didn't do his due diligence on Nash and Dwight and hiring D'Antoni kinda cements that didn't look that way initially but hey failure is an orphan
I look at most Laker losses and even their wins! The rotations, set screens, floor spacing on both ends of the floor comedy of errors defensively and offensively it screams poor coaching they remind me of the Jets in the NFL

The Lakers want to replicate the 7 seconds or less Phoenix offence, without the right players. Nash and Howard running the pick and roll can only work when you have great shooters at the wing. I don't see any on this team. Remember, the Suns reached conference finals twice in 2005 & 2006. Men that Phoenix team was fun to watch.

Lack of flexibility is D'Antonie's weakness; people say he's stubborn. But if you have a winning system it's hard to change. Just like Jackson may not coach anything but the triangle offence.

Relying on an ageing Nash, injured Howard and thin bench to deliver is simply day dreaming. Only Kobe is playing at a consistent level. Metta Peace is on and off.

Quick question: Who is laughing harder at the moment? Phil Jackson or Mike Brown

Both.

Everyone is now on the "Fire D'Antonie" bandwagon. They can bring in another coach, but they won't beat Spurs, OKC or Clippers in 7 games.

Coaching may be an issue, but it goes deeper. In the off season, two nagging issue were never addressed: lack of quickness and very thin bench. When OKC dumped the Lakers last year, Magic kept saying they needed younger & quicker players. The signing of Nash & Howard made people forget these problems and just kept thinking Lakers vs. Heat finals.

Lebron vs. Kobe! I'm disappointed we may never see that match up ever.

It's started.. The annual chess game of adding pieces, offloading bad contracts and acquiring draft picks.

Griz trade players with Cleveland
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8868058/memphis-grizzlies-cleveland-cavaliers-agree-multiplayer-trade-sources-say

The Griz are expected to do something big before the trade deadline.(Feb 15) They play out of their skin, solid defense and are tough to beat. But I think they've reached a ceiling. Getting bounced in the 2nd round every year is no fun. This year will not be an exception. In the ultra competitive West getting past Thunder, Spurs or Clips will be very tough.

Will they move Z-Bo, Gasol or Gay for top draft picks? This will be a move for the future. Of the three, Gay is the most wanted by other teams. He’s an athletic wing player, good scorer and still at his peak. I really love this team and it will be a shame to break them up.

Honestly, i wish u guys would watch the interview on sports center Espn, Doc was outraged and i thinks that's the best way to address this issue, the Celtics have become annoying, players like Brandon Bass, JET, Lee and jeff green have been very very disappointing.. Barbosa has not been given enough playing time, i feel he's more aggresive going to the bucket than Lee has been, am happy he has threatened to trade some of them if performances don't improve, even though he did not mention names, its obvious the players i listed are just not performing.

I have not missed any of our games on TV this season and i plan to watch them when they come into town if their performance improves, else am not wasting my hard earned money

JET can give excuses about being new, but i felt we are gaining from his experience, his shots selection has been very poor.

I miss the defense of players like Tony Allen, Perkins, the heart and commitment of players like Big Baby...

I saw that interview too and still think Doc should be the coach. But sometimes your GM (Danny Ainge)makes some head scratching moves. He may decide a new voice at the top is needed and fire Doc. He constructed the big 3 (a genius move) and within 3 years ships away one of the most fearsome centers ([Perk) for a so so wing player. That move destroyed the C's identity and they've never been the same.

Right now, this team can't beat the Heat in 7 games and the road to the final runs through Miami.

Career / Smartest Worker Ever! He Earns $250,000/year; Pays Chinese Firm To Do His Job by occam(m): 10:08pm On Jan 16, 2013
Bob was his company’s best software developer, got glowing performance reviews and earned more than $250,000 a year.

Then one day last spring, Bob’s employer thought the company’s computer system had been attacked by a virus.

The ensuing forensic probe revealed that Bob’s software code had in fact been the handiwork of a Chinese subcontractor.

Bob was paying a Chinese firm about $50,000 a year to do his work, then spent the day surfing the web, watching cat videos and updating his Facebook page.

...Looking at his web browsing history, investigators found that Bob spent his workday checking sites such as Reddit, Ebay, Facebook and LinkedIn and watching cat videos. Then he would type an e-mail at the end of the day to update management about his “work” and left at 5 p.m. grin

The OP was right. Check Atlanta, No toilet tissue in the bathroom, money supposed to be used to buy tissue paper has been eaten up by corrupt official running the embassy. They collect bribes openly. You might be on line for hours, let their
friends and cronies walk in and see how they will walk pass you and get attended so fast.

This is what the external affairs don't know. A lot of foreign investors do not go to Nigeria because of visa problem. We are destroying our own development. My suggestion, 80% of current embassy staff should be let go. Hire young Nigerians born in these countries to take over. They understand customer service and can perform well.

Not all the time. In some cases they do surprise you...

Last year, a friend applied for visa at the Canadian consulate. She downloaded the application online, submitted and sent passports plus documents to the consulate in Ottawa. A week after she called that she got her passport back with VISA stamp (via mail). I was very shocked! I had to check it out to see if the visa was genuine. Well she traveled to Niaja and came back without any hassle. Go figure

Guess they treat foreigners way better than sons & daughters of the soil

You have a right to your opinion but most of you just form opinions from Internet forums. Ask anyone who has been to or lived in China or who currently work in Chinese companies in Nigeria. Chinese are very greedy and selfish people who only care about themselves and they are big racists. Go check out other African countries they have taken over. They take no prisoners. There is nothing like being slave of the oyibos. Africans are slaves of their own making. the oyibos never forcefully collected slaves. They were given slaves by African chiefs. You need to change your mentality from this "Oyibos are enslaving us" mentality. We are our own undoing. Look at Nigeria that got independence in 1960. What have we done with over 50 years of freedom? I know you will even say they are still enslaving us. lol. Look inward and take responsibility. The chinese are not a friendly people and are very dishonest. someone said they are honest and I really laughed. Just ask people all over Europe and Africa who have dealt with them. The chinese are the biggest scammers in the world. try buying stuff from many of their online sites and you will regret it. Only some few sites deliver items. Most are scammers.

And are very brutal. A country that slaughtered 3,000 of it's own youth (Tianamen Square) in just 2 days. They are capable of the most brutish force that can be unleashed

what did i say before

AFRICA MUST LOOK TOWARDS THE EAST WHERE THE SUN RISES, INSTEAD OF THE WEST WHERE THE SUN SETS!

In terms of everything be it economics, growth, culture, religion, technology, etc. .

EVERYTHING!

This looking east or West must stop! We must look inwards at ourselves. Developing our people is the key but corruption continues to stymie this. If we can afford to pay a Nigerian lawmaker $1 million per year, whats the purpose of this yin -yang dance with the Chinese? We need strong partnership with them not their money

The west have lost interest in Africa and could care less if the Chinese takes over. For the U.S. their strategic interest is only to curtail Al-Qaeda in the Magreb and Mali. As for energy the giant U.S. oil companies have a strangle hold on Nigerian oil and no Chines company can muzzle in on that territory.

According to the article “Chinese businesses have also invested some $15 billion in Africa in 2012 alone—that’s up from $500 million in 2002”. And we’re jumping for joy. China has over $1.5 trillion invested in U.S treasury bonds and can afford to throw chump change to secure cheap resources. Nigerians abroad alone remitted over $20 billion in 2012

They’re not making any serious investment. They provide low intersect loans – to fund projects – but the technology, critical parts and top project managers are Chinese. Only the laborers and supervisors are Nigerians. Plus they repatriate their profits to the motherland. How is this different from how the West operated in the past?

There’s more I can say and anyone with deep understanding of current geo-politics know Chinese is only in Africa to plunder resources for their ever growing manufacturing needs. Simple.

Could it be that it's because those technicians have no clue how to fix cars in the first place??!!

We all know how many Naija mechanics do kolokalo. . .hit or miss with people's cars. You take your car for fixing and it comes back with more issues than it had in the beginning.

We know most Naija technicians can't handle complex mechanical systems. The real & hidden danger are dealers that will never disclose to buyers that the vehicle is flood damaged. They'll buy the cars in the U.S., detail it and sell as clean tokunbo. Do we even know how many of these "Sandy flood" cars are on there way to Lagos?

Auto experts strongly advise people not to buy these cars and are even classified as "unfit to drive". But our Niaja dealers fix it at the cheapest rate and tell you it's manageable to drive for 2 - 3 yrs

Common sense dictates that flood damaged vehicle are potential ticking time bombs especially on our Naija roads

When ever u buy floor car, always think the worst that u will buy a engine, chevy colbot engine 06 will run u about 400, u might not even need 1. Change the battery, remove the plugs, start crank the car, but don't start it, u don't want it to run. Everytime u crank it all the water from the head will busrt out. Next change all the fluids, oil, transmission, brake and powersteering fluid. U r good to go

Hope you enjoy your car but here is the risk:

Flood-damaged vehicles can be extremely unsafe to drive because water — especially corrosive seawater — can compromise the electronic and computer systems that control every major system in a modern car, from the engine to steering, brakes and airbags.

Also, the cars could be contaminated by bacteria and unknown toxins from the mix of storm water and sewage from overloaded drainage systems. This very worrisome

Jackson is a very cunning fox. If he wanted to comeback he would. IMHO, I'm not sure he was 100% committed about coaching this roster. We'll never know why the Lakers decided to go for D'Antoine instead of Jackson

Compared to Thunder, Spurs, Clippers, Grizzlies even Golden state the Lakers roster is considerably weak. Aside from starters (Kobe, Nash, Howard, Gasol & Peace) talent wise this team is below average for the competitive west. Initially we all got carried away that with the starting unit but people did not pay attention to the bench

Unless they make a trade before the All-star break and fire D'Antoni they probably won't make the playoffs they face San Antone tonight OKC on Friday they could easily be 6 games below .500 but their case aint as bad as the Mavs. I'm really impressed with the Rockets and how Harden is firing that offense

$82 million per year on their starting 5 alone. Yes they need to trade but who wants to do a trade with the Lakers? I don't see any players on the bench that any team wants either. Is Peace (Attest) even worth $7.5 million a year? I think he's the best trade option. This team now reminds me of the Knicks during Isiah Thomas days: Huge contracts, untradeable players and constant losing.

This is a roster issue not a coaching problem. Can't believe Lakers are in danger of not making the playoffs
