He can come to the UK to study but if his intention is to get ILR through 10yrs studying here then somebody need to physically restrain him.
Indeed.

Hi Justwise......I am applying to switch from tier 4 to tier 2. My sponsor is A rated has stated ticked in my CoS that they certify maintenance for me.

Do I still need to have maintenance money in my account?
https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-general/eligibility

You don’t need to have £945 in savings if your sponsor is fully approved (‘A-rated) and they have stated on your certificate of sponsorship that you won’t claim benefits during your stay.

Yes, that is possible because the new rule was introduced last year or so. Those who started the combination before the rule was introduced will not be affected
Interesting. So with these new rules someone like my friend who legitimately wants to study from pre-degree all the way to PhD, while contributing well over £100000 to them can't?

That combination will not work because there a cap on number of years one can stay in the UK on Tie 4 visa.

Even at that..for you to study from degree to PhD you need at least £100,000 to achieve that
Indeed,
It is a ridiculous route if the only intention of it is to get an ILR. But it is possible. I have a (rich) Chinese friend who did his foundation, BSc, MSc, and PhD in the UK. He was able to get an ILR in his final year.

I assumed they mostly overstayed thier visas. Hard to believe that the waterways are that porous. The UK is the most surveilled country in the world

justwise:
How do you think illegal immigrants get into the UK? All seasides in the UK are smuggler's route with boat. Do a google search and enjoy yourself with latest news on that.

That will probably happen though many Eastern Europeans are British passport holders anyway so they will be find.

Any trade deal will probably include free movement between the two countries so i don't see this exit reducing immigration rather smugglers will make even more money getting people into the UK
Smuggling people into the Uk? How now?

I was also about saying it is not possible but then i remembered that it is possible to actually do 4 years BSC, and do masters twice (still possible if the second masters is a different field and one can justify that it is of benefit or progress to the individual) and then do PHD (4 years). My brother, 10 years don complete be that o.

OR

4 years BSC, 1 year masters, 4 years PHD and then apply for the extra 1 year you are entitled to as a PHD holder (10 years don complete)

OR

Also, it is possible to do 4 years BSC, apply for graduate entrepreneurship visa (1 year) and then do masters (1 year) and then do PHD (4 years).

OR

Go through college, 2 years HND (must be an embedded college to apply within the UK) , 2 years University, 1 year Masters or even do 16 months Masters grin, 4 years PHD and another 1 years guaranteed after PHD. My brother, levels go still set grin

Mehn, the above scenario is crazy. What people do to become citizens, people back home don't just understand. I would rather move to another country than do all this long parol.
Imagine how much one would have spent on fees, visa renewals and IHS surcharge and no more established presence (9 months maintenance fees again) for every application o.

But no be everybody get strength to do PHD, na where the problem dey be that. or some won't just have enough funds to go this route. grin

It is well grin
Thanks OlowoB

Cc @justwise. It is crazy but yeah, here it is. It would be crazy for anyone to plan to do this just to stay but it is possible

Thanks for response bro.....really appreciate.

Concerning the job, it's a career job i have always been longing for; IT Network Engineer. And it's a very big firm, I'll be managing over a 100 systems within the company and and about 50 in some other states.

As i stated before, i worked as an Intern in this same company(same department sef) for 10 months on minimum wage. All this while, there was a vacancy in that department for about 7 months now and i always being trying to apply. Eventually just a month ago, i gave up because everything look futile. That's when i got my MSc admission.

On the nut shell, everyone is telling me to take it, not just because of the salary, but because of the documented work experience it will gimme.
Defer your Masters and do the job. You will increase your chances of getting a job in the UK if you have work experience. Especially in this field

"You can combine 10yrs of studying within the UK to qualify for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) but now you can't as HomeOffice has effectively closed that route."

This route is still open as far as I know. You do need to be progressing in your education i.e. you can't do two BScs

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Looking For A Job In Nigeria With 2.1 Or Staying In U.S.A Illegally by ocheejemb: 2:39pm On May 30, 2016
Bro, if you can have the means to go illegally, then you have the means to go legally. Just try and find a school or something, raise the money needed. Anything worth doing is worth doing well, if you go illegally you may regret your actions in a few years.

austinosita:
I really love to stay in Lagos, Nigeria working, but getting a job even with my experience and good grade(2.1) is almost impossible.

I have searched and searched and searched, attended interviews, but all to no avail. The worse was the interview I attended today, this morning @lekki-epe express way; I was discharged after about 2 to 3 questions only(about 3 mins).....meanwhile, the first applicant spent almost 30 mins. I just looked at the lady like.....is it my face? Is my 2.1 not enough? Didnt i answer your questions correctly? Infact i almost swore never to attend any interview again.....e beta make i kukuma explore my music talent....

I really love to base in Lagos. Get a good job, marry and have kids. I'm almost losing hope in my job search! Infact I no think say anybody for nairaland search reach me!!!

Now, I have another option to stay in America illegally, until I secure complete papers for stay(which will take time) I'll be staying with a family member, going to school and working.......general hustling till I get a green card.

Please, what do you guys suggest?

#I taya for this joblessness no be small# its killing
EducationRe: I Applied For MSc But Foreign Supervisor Said School Is Accepting Me For PhD by ocheejemb: 8:25am On May 05, 2016
@OP, you should do your research but I think that a North American PhD programme has an intrinsic MSC i.e. you will attend classes and write exams before your actually qualify to do the PhD. A PhD is not necessarily harder than an MSC, if that's what you are worried about. However, it does require a certain high level of discipline, knowledge and skill that you may or may not already have from your current degrees.

My advice if for you to grab this opportunity with both hands. Profs don't make these kinds of offers to just anyone. If a random stranger believes you can do it, then you should also believe in yourself.
CareerRe: Masters Or Stay On Job? by ocheejemb: 7:16pm On May 03, 2016
If you have some savings, now is probably as good as any time. You sound smart and articulate, so I'm sure you'll get something appropriate in Canada at the end of your studies, especially from such a highly ranked school.

bicmitchum:
This is a point in my life where I really need other opinions about my pending decision.
Here are the points:

-I graduated first class some years ago after completing studies at the University of Lagos
-Secured numerous masters admission with and without scholarship and intended to go for masters immediately, but got an attractive job offer with an oil multinational. Took the job offer.
-I've worked now about 4+ years with this multinational and the going has been incredibly terrific. Even with the incredible layoffs in my company and in the oil industry, it looks very likely I'll continue to keep my job.
-Every year I have continued to apply for masters in universities abroad given my intention to really acquire a masters and possibly a PhD degree. Never once accepted any of the offers I have been getting. Simply ignored them. As the years rolled by, the offers are no longer coming as usual. I'm getting turned down by schools.
-This year I have now obtained an offer to complete my masters at the No.1 ranked university in Canada, my desired destination. The only offer I got among the top schools I applied to. No scholarships.
-I'm yet unentitled to study leave

Here's the question: do I quit my job and go complete this masters in a really reputable school or do I stay back in Nigeria and continue slugging it out in the oil industry? Who knows what will come of the industry as the oil price continues to flutter? Who knows how my future might turn out if I leave to go chase the masters?

Here's my decision: Work is getting boring as time races on. I'm not getting any younger. I'm in my very late twenties. I should quit, go chase my masters and embrace any uncertainty that may come out of that. If I'm unable to secure an attractive job I'll go with academics for life whether in Canada or in Nigeria. I might even secure a Canadian citizenship. Canada is a lovely destination where I don't mind spending a large chunk of my life.

My worry: I have a comfortable life here. Why shake the bottle? Why stir the pot? Racism is still rife in these "white" countries. My life could get unbearable mixing in a culture I'm not familiar with.

Any inputs, please.

The UK does need nurses and I believe it is classed as a shortage occupation, so with a bit of luck and direction you may get a job there. You may never buy a Range Rover Sport as a UK Nurse though, don't get it twisted,

Oxbridge? as per Oxford or Cambridge? What were you doing in an office like that then?

Beowulf:
Reading the OP really made me sad and brought back very painful memories. Nigerian employers are mean especially one man businesses. The worst of them all in my opinion are law firms!! They are just so terrible. They will deduct your tax and pensions but never remit them. Don't tell me I am a lawyer and that I should report them. It is not that cut and dried. In my last place of work, I was one of the top lawyers in there but saw the treatment other people received. In fact before I became valued, it was hell for me. Sometimes, my immediate boss will talk to me so badly I will go into the men's room and cry hot tears! Grown chap like me. Sometimes I would go into the restroom and look at myself in the mirror and pysche myself up. I would tell myself that I am that same guy that made the best result in my Uni class, that left law school with a good grade, that has an Oxbridge law degree and I cannot just become dumb overnight!

What I did was to bide my time, some staff left and there were very few people to do the work and that was when they saw my value. In no time they promoted me but I never forgot that ill-treatment and I saw it being dished out to others. I had my gameplan and I kept applying for jobs. I got a job in a foreign law firm and I couldn't believe the pay nor the job. I simply told my former employers that my time was up and they were so livid. You needed to see abuses that would make a motor-park tout blush coming from the lips of lawyers who went to good schools and are well respected in the society. I was called all sorts of names just because I decided to better myself! Unbelievable! These were people I worked 247 for! There were countless nights I spent in the office and wouldn't leave the office anytime before 8pm! I would work most weekends either at the office or remotely from home. But I thank God for seeing me through and I work in a world class firm where you are treated like a human being and appreciated all round.

My tip to anyone going through this kind of thing: Keep your head up, Don't believe the label they tag you with, You are better than what they say you are, You are a better person than they are, Hold on and be strong, Believe in God (whatever your understanding of him is) and ask for his help, If you don't believe in God think positive thoughts, Don't ever let your head drop! One day, our ships will come home.
