All those ‘switch your phone before take off’ na na scam.

Airlines especially one these international routes dey even sell their useless expensive internet WIFI, I know that Ethiopia Airlinr na $25 for duration of the flight if you are economy passenger and free for first class.

There's no way your mobile data will work 10000 ft in the air. Maybe when close to take-off and landing.

So sad, may her soul RIP

Standard practice for situations like this is for the plane to land ASAP, and it looks like they were diverted to San Juan
Travel / Re: My Flight Has A Stopover At Dublin, Do I Need A Transit Visa? by ocheejemb: 8:56am On Jul 22, 2023
This is false information. Transit Visas don't even allow you leave the airport. Stop the misinformation

haslaw:

Transit Visa is not required if you are spending few hours in the airport as a result of stop over.

Transit visa is only required if you intend to spend some time (a few days or weeks) in the country and you will be going to town

You need a transit visa. I don't understand why people who have obviously never flown to or via Dublin are telling you nonsense.

Travel / Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by ocheejemb: 8:01pm On Sep 21, 2019
I am a prophet!

ocheejemb:

I disagree. Long term, say after 2020, Brexit will benefit international students. Short term, the situation is likely to not real change much. Although some employers might become more willing to sponsor good non-EU students now, if they are thinking forward to a post Brexit era.

The UK really does need some immigration, if there will be any economic growth. On one hand, the stoppage of an free inflow of hardworking EU workers means prices of goods and services will rise dramatically, when entitled Brits are the only one who can take these jobs, especially the low skilled ones. For instance, I read about truck drivers somewhere in England who used to earn £16 an hour years ago, but a glut of EU drivers crashed the wage down to £9. If these wages go back up, then prices of goods will have to rise as well.

It will even be worse with high skilled jobs. It has been proven that although Cameron's Govt had been pushing against immigration, without high figures for it, there would be no way that the current population can meet economic targets (budget surplus by 2020). Now that the workforce can't easily come from Europe, it means everyone else now has a fairer chance of getting a work visa. Of course, you still need relevant skills.

I don't think Theresa May was all that hostile towards international students as Home Secretary. She had a impossible directive from her boss; to reduce immigration to the tens of thousands. So, she ensured that many loopholes are blocked. Unfortunately she's also made it tougher for fresh grads to get sponsored. BUT, all in all, immigration has actually risen, despite all her efforts.

Just seeing this six months later, but I gotta ask you, Ndubuisi Paul, is everything ok?

Who leaves such a comment on a 6-year old thread, wishing death on a complete stranger and bringing thier old innocent father into it? Some said Wande Coal needed to come and clear the air on the murder/suicide since it was his music that was playing in the background, and I simply asked how in the world it directly concerns Wande Coal.

Hope you are good though, you sounded really stressed. Hope whatever was disturbing your life back then, and encouraging you to act like a maniac online has been resolved and you are in a better place mentally right now.

Ndubuisipaul1:

for this comment I just know that you are a bastard.

Career / Re: MSc In UK Versus N183k Job Offer: Advice Please by ocheejemb: 10:43am On Sep 08, 2017
DanXplore:
Please, i could use some career advice from great nairalanders. Please tag monikers that you think would be of great help, as i am at a crucial point in my career.

I am a graduate of chemcal engineering but for 2years now, have not gotten any engineering related job. The only job i got was at KPMG (audit), which i resigned after 3 months due to some personal reasons. I am currently an Area Sales Rep with a poultry feed production company that pays 183k per month (net take home after tax and other necessary deductions), though i could use up to 20 to 25k to fuel my car monthly.
Now, i just got a PTDF scholarship offer to study Advanced process integration and design in UK but not really sure if it is worth ditching my current job for it.

I am not very confident about securing a job once i finish msc because only a handful of opportunities come for chemical engineers. more also,UK rarely retains Nigerians.

Please what are your advices, especially from those who have done Msc in Uk.

I need your advices, i dont want to make a costly mistake.

When i read your headline, i was like 'take the job', but as i read you have won a scholarship - i'd advice you to take it and open up your horizons for free. The money you will get as stipend from PTDF will surely be more than the 183k that the poultry comapany will pay

No one will ever make a thread talking about how he loves Nigerians, how some of us are honest andd hardworking doctors, nurses, engineers, accountants, lawyers, bus drivers, business analysts, shop floor workers, just regular people doing their regular jobs. The bad always gets amplified over the good.

There is no better life in London than Nigeria. The weather stabs you in your chest, the food is awkward and no playmate to hobnob with. The only joy derived is the good infrastructure and opportunity to earn more money. Without money, to hell with infrastructure.

It is not out of kindness the doctor and wife brought the lady to UK. She is the easiest target to be used. She was house help to their parents with little or no paid and they felt they could continue the trend in London. An hourly pay for maids is 20 pounds. That is 200 pounds for 10 hour day and 1400 pounds a week. This couple intends to use and enfeeble the poor maid until she is not useful to herself and the society. So don't defend their wickedness
