FamilyRe: 3 Days After Our Wedding, My Wife Can't Stop Crying by ocheejemb: 12:26pm On Feb 23, 2016
yommys01:
I got married on Saturday 20th of February 2016. We were in an hotel till Monday, wanted us to stay longer but she refused saying she wants to go home ( that used to be my house).

Ever since we got home yesterday ( Monday), she has been crying. Called her mom, she prayed for her, my mom called her too and prayed for her.

She stopped crying for a while, we woke up with another round of crying this morning.

This is breaking my heart. I hate to cry as it often leads me to depression now I am close to tears myself.

I don't know if I have done something wrong or what to do. It is hurting as she cries.

When we were dating, she finds it difficult without her family for long " oh, I am already missing my dad, I am already missing my siblings" could this be the reason?

One day she came to mine from home as we have Dr appointment early and she lives in another state, she got to mine and 1 hour later she wanted to go home. "I am missing my dad sha" which got me annoyed then.

Could it be that the crying now is linked? She is 25 and I am 30 and we spent quite some time together before marriage. The fact we used to be together for so long makes it more confusing. This is a house she has always been in why the crying now?

It is hurting me. Badly and I am confused.

What do I do?
Call her bluff. Tell her to go home if she wants, what did she think marriage is aboout? What kind of rubbish is that?

Cheap ploy by the author. Click bait. If your 10 year old daughter has been raped, I don't think your main concern would be with Cervical Cancer vaccination, something for WOMEN between the age of 18 - 45. A very stupid way to raise awareness.
CareerRe: Am Thinking Of Quitting My Job by ocheejemb: 7:47pm On Feb 20, 2016
missKiffy:
This job has made me realise that truly we women are the problem of this world. I started this job on the 2nd of November last year and the Manager who happens to be a lady is everybody's problem in that office.

While working there its been one issue or the other, this lady in question is repulsive, cranky, rude, very proud, talks to people anyhow including an elderly man who happens to be the driver, never takes blame for her mistakes but never fails to magnify every other persons mistake. My mind has left the place since the day I found out that she was looking for a replacement for my position, that was late last month, I had initially decided to leave after collecting my salary for that month before I later changed my mind, as at now I don't know if she still intends to find someone else but my mind is just not there anymore, there is nobody they haven't threatened with a sack in that office, in fact a guy was once sacked just a week after he started work. It's just a small organisation with about six staffs including the boss, she's actually in a relationship with the boss and if they do decide to get married I don't even want to be there by then cos if she can be behaving like this when they are only dating i wonder how she will behave when they get married.

I know a lot of people would say it's best to leave your job only when you've gotten another place but you might not understand what's it's like when your mind is not just there anymore. What do you guys think? Do you think I should quit?
She sounds horrible. People like that usually reap what they sow. Try not to quit unless you have somewhere better to go, if not she has won. If you do decide to leave, then make sure you give her a piece of your mind. But be wary not to burn any bridges that you might need to cross one day.

My two kobo - OP that GM is an asshole. First of all, he kept you guys waiting for 4 hours. Secondly, his entire demeanour was unprofessional in the way he spoke to you. Finally, saying that your previous employers dind't pay a lot is not tarnishing thier image in my honest opinion.
CareerRe: Why I Refused To Confirm Four Trainees After Their Assessment Centre. by ocheejemb: 11:16pm On Feb 03, 2016
Well to be fair to the OP that was a very simple problem and anyone with basic maths skills should be able to solve it in a few seconds.

That being said. Maybe the grads were confused and assumed this was some sort of trick question. Additionally I have never seen a ♡ symbol used as a variable before so maybe that threw them off guard.

It is a bizarre story on both sides. To loose a job opportunity because of a single simple algebra equation is tragic and ridiculous at the same time. It certainly wasn't a good test by any means.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How An Office Cleaner Outshined 6 'graduates' Today by ocheejemb: 2:55pm On Jan 29, 2016
6 graduates do not define the entire cohort you know. I must admit that our tertiary sector leaves a lot to be desired.

monacobull:
Let me start off by saying at this point i believe Nigerian graduates have a lot of work to do. Its taking a lot of effort for me to contain the level of disappointment im currently feeling towards our university leavers. I work in a multinational company and i have had the chance to partake in the interview process of some roles the company advertised. Most of the time im usually appalled at the errors and goofs i see on CV's. So let me get to the main story.

Six graduates came into the office this morning to interview for an internship position. Which was going to pay a basic salary and also some nice commissions. All the interviewees were very disappointing despite the very easy questions which was for a very simple role. In fact none of them showed enough quality to half consider them for the job. undecided

After the last person left, I and my colleague had already given up and hoped to do a fresh advert for the role. But 1 other person that was present at the interview was a senior staff from our foreign headquarters. And he suddenly suggested that we give the office cleaner a chance. At first i thought he was saying it out of frustration but this guy was damn serious. Long story short, we called the cleaner in and he handled our questions well and even scaled through 80% of the objection statements we threw at him! Whats more is that this guy isn't exactly educated and he even stammers! WTF !!!! Agreed he might have had better answers because he knows some more about the company having worked with us for a while, but still on still!...to outshine 6 graduates!...ah. shocked

Finally finally we have decided to take him on a trial role and give him the required training. Im still shocked beyond belief. huh

Naija graduates, please get your shit together. angry angry angry

EducationRe: I Hate Being Smart! by ocheejemb:
MathsChic:
Sometimes I just hate being smart. Being smart, getting A's in school will make you top your class and later provide you with a decent to very lucrative job that's just going to assure your future. You won't be poor and you'll live a comfortable life. But sometimes, I just can't help but wonder at how boring and mundane everything eventually becomes. sad sad angry

On the other hand, not getting all the A's and not topping your class will throw you out there, challenge you to dream big and force you to come up with a living that could probably break bounds, making you into a household name. Linda Ikeji, Toke Makinwa, Folorunsho Alakija, Oprah, these are people who certainly didn't get the best grades in school or studied the best courses at university, yet they shape and influence the polity more than the best graduating student in Electrical Engineering from the set 1985 in Unilag would ever do. And who's that best graduating student anways? I bet no one knows today! sad sad

I so hate being smart! I wish I was a regular one that would have had to create something for herself. sad angry
Most smart people don't actually think they are that smart, so this your self-aggrandizing post makes me wonder how smart you actually are. Also suggesting that being smart automatically precludes you from shaping polity like Linda Ikeji or Toke Makinwa (of all examples), again makes me question how smart you actually are. Why are those particular ladies your beacons? Why not Chimamanda or Ngozi Okonjo Iweala - they probably topped their classes in their day. What of Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg who had to drop out of Harvard as they were so smart that there was nothing they could learn there. What of the countless professionals -scientists, engineers, doctors, teachers, bankers, lawyers - who over the course of history, have shaped our past and our future. Those men and women have and are contributing their quota to the advancement of the human race.

Again, I ask you - if you think being intelligent is about having gossip and makeup blogs, or being a lucky oil magnate - then your so-called intelligence isn't at the level you think it is.

BusinessRe: Tips On How MTN Can Survive The NCC Fine by ocheejemb: 9:35am On Nov 09, 2015
You must be having a laugh.

Keneking:
On 26th October 2015, MTN Group was fined $5.24 billion (N1.4trillion) by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for failing to disconnect non-registered SIM cards. In light of this recent decision, I hereby recommend the following on how they can survive the impact of this decision.

A. Shareholders:

Shareholders should approve the payment of the $5.2bn before the due date. Changes in Shareholding structure is imminent and no delays is expected from the Group in this regard. The top echelon of the organisation should be re-organised starting with its management.

B. Topline:

The business topline for the remainder of the financial year i.e 1 November 2015 - 31 March 2016 should be revised. No doubt, subscribers would leave the network and earnings would drop significantly especially voice. Therefore profit and loss account should be revised to include the periods when the sanction becomes effective in this case since 2012.

C. Cost of Sales:

This would remain as there are already commitments with service providers based on scheduled plan. There is no need to revise the factors in profit and loss sheet.

D. Cost of Labour:

Management should as a matter of fact begin the process of reviewing contract costs with expatriates, already, there is an exchange rate hit (20%), a function of the devalued currency early in the year is significant cost to the company in the course of the financial year. An option to locate other expatriates in Asia is due e.g India, China and Indonesia. These professionals can be hired on need basis and terms of employment clearly chalked out.

An important note is that other outsourcing agencies can be engaged to commence the process of providing comparative and lower service cost from next financial year i.e 1 April 2016 - 31 March 2017.

Local employees can be committed to contract with non-key positions placed on secondment. No need to downsize.

E. Cost of Marketing:

-Local budget for marketing should be adopted. BTL (below the line) option most recommended.
-Highly capitalised marketing should be banned for next 5 years i.e post Year 2020
-Aggressive marketing in hinterland to be promoted.
-Discount on data and bundle opportunity should be created.
-Discount on voice should be created for youth and group target. New target should be created in this segment.

F. Cost of Finance:

Of course, the burden of settling NCC fine requires a huge cashflow. A phased payment/settlement is recommended. MTN Nigeria should enter into a phased settlement plan with NCC. A letter of comfort stating how and when this payment would be made should be made in line with Shareholders approval.

- cashflow concerns: as a result of the expected massive exit by subscribers in the short term, there might be deficit in cashflow of the local business. Therefore, a massive inflow of capital is now required. This can be achieved through local banks with a consortium likely to create the balance needed. Another option is find another partner in form of shareholder.

- finance cost: with the current interest rate of 16%-18% from local banks, an additional terminal loan would lead to increased liabilities and exposure to banks.

G. Partnership: Business to provide opportunity for corporate partnerships in the form of sell-off of non-performing part of the business. A proposal to sell its data arm and concentrate on voice would be a great idea.

In conclusion, communication is key for the business in Nigeria. Shareholders should address the public directly in the case of regulators, customers, public (internal and external) regularly. There is no need to apologise but rather provide action plans on how to keep the business going and to overcome the existing challenges in the country.

In the face of a new management and focus, the company can turnaround this enormous challenge in the next three to four years and bounce back in winning ways.
BusinessRe: My Experience In The Bank Today by ocheejemb: 12:34pm On Oct 19, 2015
Well done mate. Had you spent that money the girl would have had to pay it back from her salary, or even gotten fired.

SAPEDRO:
I had been looking forward to Monday morning since Friday evening, after closing very late from class and couldn't find my ATM card. I knew I had to cook to be able to eat during the weekend days, which is one of the things I hate the most.

I was able to pull through the weekend, so I dashed out to the bank as early as 8:am this morning and then went to the cashier who was unusually friendly, smiling asking me a lot of questions at the same time advertising the bank's products while processing my withdrawal in which most of the time her eyes was fixed on me.

I collected my money and then bade her goodbye, immediately I got out of the bank the deed happened, I got an alert! credit alert not debit, what I withdrew had been added to my initial balance, I was in a dilemma, even though I'm still a student, I'm financially ok and the money is a paltry compared to what I have, but this money could have gotten me a crisp Moda cris suit and somebody has given it to me for free out of carelessness or so I thought. It wasn't the easiest of all decisions but I summoned courage and went back to her and explained what had just happened to her, she was so excited and told me it was a mistake on her part, she thanked me and asked for my phone number so we could talk and thank me very well in the evening, I scribbled it down on her notepad and left. I am so happy with myself right now for the courage to return the money.

Adultnextdoor:
Happy sunday.....

it's true that i get paid very big for working as a chemical scientist and i've always been an expert in science-related courses but music has always been the dream for me right from childhood, i've always wanted to be an Highlife singer......

At this point in my life as a youngman, i have so much money due to the fact that i worked for a prestigeous petro-chemical company in italy for two years before moving down to Nigeria.

I currently work for a petroleum company as the Asst. Supervisor of the production department and Supervisor of the quality control section, this September will make it my second year of serving this company........

Now with this little achievement, i still get the strong urge to follow my music career.....to be sincere, it is the main reason i relocated back to Nigeria,This September, i will be resigning and i want to know if i'm making the right decision.....

pls you can share if you've got any advice....bless!!
Its great that you want to follow your dreams, but start small. Try to put feelers out there to see if its worth quitting your day job - record a single and do some gigs first.
