Who's talking Peter Obi here? Is it same Peter Obi that's causing the current situation in the country or the cause of what happened to our economy when Buhari was in power? I think I can understand what you're driving at which clearly proofs what I've been saying. You're not even a good student of history. Nzeogu wasn't the ring leader in that coup. Ademola Ademoyega was. The idea was to release Awo and declared him president. Don't even think I'm ibo cos I've been seeing the sign of tribalism in your post as predicted. I'm a full bloodied yorubaman. Go and read a book entitled Why We Struck. It was written by a prominent figure in that coup by the name Ademola Ademoyega. Maybe you'd learn something you didn't know until now. Stop dwelling on emotions and what people tell you. Read boy, read!!

Except you are living in the moon would you accept we have good leadership in place, which even predated Tinubu's administration. This predated his givernment, so don't I'm being as emotional as you are. In a revolution, there must be sacrifices and only a coward would be afraid of it.

On the final note, expect anything from either the military or the civilians in the country, should the situation remains abated. Thinking there can't be coup as if you control the army is laughable. Anything can happen, anytime
You have not read Why We Struck. If u did u won't claim Ademoyega was d leader of d 1966 coup. Ademoyega made it very clear in d book that Nzeogwu was their leader, that's why Nzeogwu led d Kaduna axis to take out d Sadauna who was perceived as d strongest Bloc, Ifeajuna took out Balewa d PM in Lagos while Donatus Okafor was to take out Ironsi d GOC of d army in Lagos but he botched it. It was Nzeogwu that finally read d coup speech ousting the govt and it was he who took over d govt and later handed over to Col Katsina (who represented Ironsi) after Madiebo had convinced him to surrender. Go and read The Five Majors by Gen Gbulie, The Nigerian Revolution and Biafra War by Alexander Madiebo and even d account by Sir Rex Niven, PA to the Saduana all pointed to the fact that Nzeogwu was d undisputed leader of that coup.
As to if u are Yoruba, I don't care, it makes no point here, d likes of Macaroni and Iyabo Ojo are all Yorubas who are dancing naked around Obi without knowing d stuff he is made of and the demands of a Nigerian President.
The suffering we are encountering can be solved by a clear headed visionary and disciplined leadership together with a patriotic and informed followership. Any army officer who takes a gun and shoots his way to power and dissolves all d 36 states govt nationwide certainly does not have the kind of temperament to fix Nigeria. He would continue to kill and oppress to maintain the power he got illegally. U don't know what u say when u recommend military coup, u honestly do not understand d far reaching implication. U think they would give Nairaland, Facebook and Twitter this unhindered access to abuse and ridicule people as is done currently? Coups have never solved d problem of any country in Africa, not even one, how u think it would solve ours in a time like this is what I find most amusing

The only thing that is constant in life is change. Nothing is impossible. It's laughable to think there can't be coup in Nigeria. What made you think so? All the variables are already there staring everyone in the face. If coup happens, Nigeria will not burn. Life will definitely move on. As long as you are still alive, nothing(including coup) is inevitable in a country like ours.

Eriokanmi:
Who's talking of regional favouritism here? Since the start of coup d'etat in Nigeria after independence, has it ever favoured a particular section of the country? You'd answer that yourself. If your fear of a coup is that, north would be sidelined and the south would benefit from the amended constitution, then you're one of those enemies of the north because you don't want your region and the common masses to develop and enjoy a new lease of life.

Look at the national assembly. If you say north constitutes the majority, I'd say yes. But how many of these law makers deliver on their promises? How many of them have successfully executed the various community projects in their various constituencies? The majority of them live in abuja. They hardly go home. But if the constitution could be amended such that, power would rest on the grass-roots and the local government could be fortified and allowed to run things without depending on state, you'd be amazed the level of development you'd see. North is the poorest region in Nigeria and a region with the highest number of out of school children on earth. That should bother you and I. All those law makers should be cut to size nationwide. The money they're eating can be used to develop all regions of the country. Only a change in constitution would address this.

The constitution we have today only favours the elites not the masses. That's the truth. We can't continue to work with it. See when Nigeria was practising regional government, we had groundnut pyramids in the north, cotton in the north, cocoa , pil palm, rubber in the south. The common man was empowered to do agriculture and they had money in their pockets. Where is the pyramid today? Where are the cotton farms which used to supply the kaduna textiles pruned cotton materials? Where is the kaduna textiles itself today? That's caused a huge job loss in hundreds of thousands. Our leaders don't care. You can answer all that by yourself. I'm Nigerian first before my tribal affiliation, if you've ever read any of my posts, you'd know this.

The coup idea isn't about sidelining the north. All regions are suffering from this constitution imposed on us. I don't believe in bokonharam or banditry. They're the consequence of the bad constitution which gave room for bad leaders to thrive. They're members of the society too. The government made them so radical, same as ipob. Boko haram means book is a sin or western education is a sin. When they see the governors , senators, ministers and their relations enjoying and sharing money , which belong to the masses for developmental purposes like road construction, agricultural subsidy and soft loans, education improvement, provision of portable water, etc , they'd say what's the essence of the so called western education which is enslaving instead of providing succour? They think once Islamic government is established, nobody dares steal what belongs to the masses anymore cos the person would be beheaded. This is the fact Nigerian leaders won't tell you.
Killing them won't solve any problem.

Once the government begins doing what's right, you'd never hear attacks by boko haram or bandits or ipob again. Only by changing our constitution by removing so much powers from them at the centre would this happen and I don't see our politicians doing that cos it would affect them. Only the military can do this.
The military were d ones that centralized our constitution in the first place, prior to that we were a loose federation. The command structure of the military would never allow them free the federating units. Quit d day dreaming, no soldier ever does any coup to help, they do it for d lust of power. Just forget, there shall be no coup again inNigeria

Most countries in Africa need a regime reset and Nigeria isn't an exception. Our leaders' excesses are just too much. NA alone is earning more than what 36 states put together are earning. Despite the economic downturn currently plaguing Nigeria, none of them had come out to say they want to cut down on the huge allocations accrued to them and their excesses. You see governors leaving power and retiring at the senate as if there are no competent citizens who can occupy the senate to represent their respective states.

A military coup would reset leadership here or better still, a revolution. Even those supporting their evil deeds are feeling the heat. They're only suffering and smiling.

I asked my business partner in Niger why their military had to do what they did , citing how their leader was so close to Nigeria and the immediate past administration. He said hed chat me later. He told me the man had committed a lot of atrocities since he was elected president and recently, he ordered the release of an alqaeda terrorist from prison, the move which had received the public condemnation. It won't be a bad thing if military should take over power in Nigeria and re-do things for us, including our useless constitution which favours only the elite. After doing all these, they should arrest all of them and jail them, then restore our democracy by overseeing and conducting a free and fair election, then, return to barracks thereafter.

See our conversation below...
Some of u are so disillusional. So u want the military to seize power and redo d constitution so that the south or south east would be favoured in d new constitution over d north abi? Who do u think has d balls, d positioning and d numbers in d army to do any coup? Certainly not Ibos, Kwale, Ikwere or Bini army officers. It's still d northern officers that can effect a coup, God forbid. So no way they would effect a coup and not further entrench northern or even Fulani hegemony. Nigeria is gradually diluting d hold of one region over the rest of us and children like u think soldiers will risk their lives to do a reset and then leave? Where in Africa has that ever happened? The only way to prevent Military rule is for politicians to provide good governance.. Otherwise let there be coup everywhere Including in Nigeria.

Over 70% of Nigeriens are happy with the new Military Government.

Democracy is now a platform for legitimizing tyranny and corruption. e.g. Cameroon (President Paul Boys is over 40 years in power as a Democrat)

The humongous CORRUPTION Nigeria Experienced under Buhari as democratic PRESIDENT has erroded Democracy of any relevance in contemporary governance.

Democratic ideals are obsolete and stale. Judiciary,. Legislature and Executive would always connive to oppress the masses.

LET MILITARY RULE BE !!?C
Your fathers supported and celebrated d coup of Major Nzeogwu, it led to their disaster and death of 3m, it pushed Nigeria many years backwards. Nigeria witnessed so many coups, none of them made life better for us, development was arrested especially in state level. No military regime in Africa has made life better for d people as soldiers steal and loot exclusively more than civilians. The Ali that was appointed by Obasanjo was not a Colonel but a General. And guess what, the General was retired, not a serving Army General.

By the way, this was in state of emergency and not under normal circumstances.
General or Colonel, military or civilian, the point is that the nomenclature of who manages a federating unit is inconsequential. Nigeria is a federation, the federation has 37 federating units namely the 36 states (administered by govs) and d FCT (administered by d Minister appointed by d President). No federating unit has a veto power over d others to d extent of vetoeing whoever d others elect as President, it's abnormal and d constitution never said that. Am not Yoruba, am proudly Edo (up Bendel). Yes many of us protested when GEJ removed subsidy just like we protested before him when OBJ tried to remove it or when he cut d subsidy. We didn't understand it then, we thought d corruption in d scheme could be addressed, unfortunately we were wrong. We wanted Buhari to remove d subsidy by 2015 when he just came but he refused. Big mistake. Tinubu had to finally take d painful decision. Times have changed, we now understand the situation better.

What I know presently, Peter Obi has the zeal to effect change in this country. Things have really changed and presently due to much awareness, Peter Obi was willing to make use of the intelligent youths in he's government.
He may not have done perfectly well, but he created the foundation for good governance in Anambra. If Anambra state had the kind of money Lagos state had, the state could have developed rapidly.
The Obidients people are all hard working guys and not thugs like other political parties supporters that love stomach infrastructure.
So your basis of wanting Obi is not that he performed wonders in Anambra? What foundation did he create in Anambra? Before him Ngige had already set the standard in Anambra in just three years. Anambra has Nnewi, Awka and Onitsha and if he was d star u all pretended he was he would had turned these cities to shinning examples and competed with Lagos in revenue generation such that they won't be so dependent on d FAAC allocation. Anambra is about d most erosion ravaged state in Nigeria, tell us if he was able to reciam any part of d state. When u talk about those who set standards in d SE, u talk of Sullivan Chime and Dave Umahi. The basis of choosing a leader is his track record, not lies and propaganda and empty promises; talk is cheap and anyone can promise, what matters is action, what u were able to do. Obi was mediocre, pls, thank God he never became president and he will never be

Peter Obi comes from a wealthy family. Majority of the traders in Onitsha are very wealthy and you need to travel to their various villages and see the massive buildings they all have. Them no dey depend on government or civil service money.
It's unfortunate we missed the opportunity to have someone like Peter Obi.
1999/2000 era of 9ja politics was terrible and now they are all regrouping to come back to government. Is that how a nation can grow? Even if Peter Obi was directly sent from heaven a lot of bigots will never vote for him because of the hatred they have towards south east.
Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria, yet they want to choke it with a lot of infrastructure. More people will keep trooping in to Lagos.
Kaduna state has more federal government presence than most south eastern states combined due to northern politics.
Africa is still the way it is due to funny way of reasoning. How can political leaders be moving comfortable in dusty and archaic looking communities?
Don't they travel abroad and see how a modern society should look like. Having a responsible leader goes a long way in changing any society positively. Nigerians should continuing based on tribes and religion. But when it comes to oil money they are friends to those they hate.
What exactly did we miss in not electing Obi as u said? I was transferred to work in Onitsha July 2003 when Ngige was still governor and worked there till 2007 before I left for Enugu. There was nothing spectacular that Obi did. Ngige's roads were more solid than his, Obi did not introduce modern transportation to that state, all through his tenure it's was rickety buses and okada. No agency like LASTMA to control traffic, no Waste Mgt agency like LAWMA, Onitsha remained dirty, no towns that he recaimed from d massive erosion to ravaged d state or any new city he built. He did not introduce a healthcare scheme that was revolutionary, he did not provide pipe borne water, he did not reform tax collection to make Anambra less dependant on FAAC, in fsct between him and Ngige and Obiano, he performed d less in growing IGR. Politically he did not allow govt at d grassroots level, he refused to conduct local govt elections till his final year meaning he confiscated their allocation all through. And in d end he made himself godfather as he railroaded an Obiano who was Executive Director in a bank he had major interest, Fidelity Bank. Without Obi, Obiano would never even contest for house of assembly so Obi was guilty of everything Tinubu was accused of when it comes to godfatherism just that he was not a successful one as Obiano dethroned him in a few years. My question is what was d Anambra template Obi was expected to translate to Nigeriahuh

OK. If they are old, but they can speak. Why haven't they spoken in condemnation of Tinubu's fuel price hike grin
They understand that no more fuel subsidy, fuel has been deregulated. Perhaps they have come to terms with it, painful as it is. But u are free to speak out na, they did it during their time, why not do same now it's your time?

Probably you were still a foetus or even yet to be conceived when Tinubu protested against the removal of subsidy by president Jonathan. You are only understanding it now because it's your tribesman that removed it. You deliberately refused to understand Jonathan's explanation on why the subsidy must be removed. Even Okonjo-iweala, the then finance minister warned that Nigeria will go bankrupt if subsidy is not stopped yet you guys refused to understand. Had it been it was removed then, we wouldn't be where we are today. The joke is on you.
So now that u understand d justification of subsidy removal and d attendant high petrol price, what are u still quarrelling about? Why are u splitting hairshuh

I don't care the year. This is a pic of Soyinka protesting fuel price increase. ... why is he silent now?
Why are simple things so complex for folks like u who are supposed to be educated. Fuel subsidy has been removed, petrol is now deregulated so who are u gonna protest to? BTW Soyinka is now 89, old and weak. Am sure u are less than 45, u can go and lead d protest or is if forbidden for u to also lead protest?

Where is the "Save Nigeria Group" that protested against Jonathan, when fuel was N65. Why are they not protesting now?
Where is Wole Soyinka? Where is Tunde Bakare, Femi Falana? Are they silent because their Thiefnnubu is president?

See, the SW is the bane of Nigeria. Nigeria is sick today because of yoruba dirty and dishonest politics. This is the truth.
So u are waiting for them to still protest for u? They protested when they were much younger, now they are old and no longer as strong. You that's younger why not lead d protest? They fought for their generation, u too should fight for your generation

10k per annum is still too insignificant and it would be better to give the corporate tax to states and then states pay up a percentage of total revenue and that would be more orderly. No country base revenue on company income tax because it is easy for them to dodge . The FG has exhausted it's revenue opportunities and the onus is on the LGs and the states. Lagos can generate 150 billion naira per month if they capture everybody and the rest of the states can generate over one trillion per month, if they pay ten percent up they can sustain the FG easily even without oil money
I completely disagree with u. The FG is yet to scratch d surface on d taxes it can take. Nigeria has over 3m registered companies, yes maybe just 500k of them are functional but govt stimulate 1m coys to become functional by tying lots of activities only to corporate bodies. If 1m coys file annual returns per year at 10k, that's N100b. We ha e not talked yet of coy taxes. What is our VAT penetration? About d least in d world. Name one transaction u do where u voluntarily pay VAT apart from when u buy from big supermarkets. U fix ur car without paying VAT, u even buy a car without paying VAT. Those are huge opportunities. Not to talk of Capital Gains Tax we have never paid though most CGT of individuals are for states except in d FCT and corporate organisation. Are we to talk of wiholding tax? Do u know when u pay ur rent on any property, there is an attendant WHT?

Most companies declare loss or very little profit. It is easy to dodge corporate tax. In most organized nations it is more or less negligible, the normal way is fix minimum wage and impose it on all employer of labor then take personal income tax from source and in Nigeria only states have the constitutional right to do that and only Lagos does it with seriousness. Local governments too can make money from tenement, advert rates, radio/tv licenses and produce tax. All are gold mines
Even if a coy declares a loss, it must file it's annual returns and annual returns are not free. FG can make it flat rate of 10k to file your annual return and without it u can't operate a bank account. That forces everyone to pay d 10k for annual returns. Also coys bidding for govt contracts must show evidence of payment of coy tax, govt can say they can't give any contract to a loss making coy cos it means they are not being well run. Also at d point of doing change of ownership for any vehicle, govt should demand for VAT and Capital Gains Tax which should be on fair mkt value of d car. If d person claims he didn't buy and that it was a gift, then a form of inheritance tax applies. Lots of tax govt is not taking, both FG, state and local

There is no avenue for the FG to raise more revenue than they already have and the only thing possible is for states and LG to raise their own revenue and be like Lagos state. Any state with five million people can raise one quarter of Lagos revenue, attract investors with venture capital and etc as Lagos is doing. Any state can do it but the FG can not be able to increase their revenue anymore
You think so? How many people operate corporate bank accounts yet have never paid coy tax or filed annual returns? The govt can make it mandatory that to operate ur bank account every year, u must file your annual returns. And annual returns would mean u pay some tax. How many of us have ever paid BAT when we buy electronics at d mkt or paid capital gains tax when we sell our second hand cars. And u say there is no avenue for FH to further raise tax? My brother this govt if it really wants to will double it's current revenue in less than four years.
