It was a busy hectic day, after an exploratory laparotomy, that I decided to catch some rest under the green trees surrounding the serene hospital environment. The whistlings on the tree were quite inviting, and the coolness of the sheds irresistible!
As I sat under the tree in dire anticipation for my hollandia yoghurt, to humidify my brash oesophagus, that the vehicle drove in, screeching!
"Doctor, doctor!!" The voice roared.
I wasn't perturbed. I knew what it was - the usual emergency cases. Sipping the last drop of my chilled yoghurt, I advanced towards the car, expecting the usual story.
"What is the problem young lady" I asked. "Doctor its my mother Mrs XYZ, I don't know what is happening to her" she retorted while wiping her eyes already drenched with tears.
Then she dipped her hand inside her hand bag and handed me a letter, a histology report, which read: "intraductal breast carcinoma, with metastasis to the lungs"
"When did this start" ? I enquired. She answered, "She noticed a swelling in her breast 10years ago, but we have been treating it with herbal medications and drugs that we buy from Mr. Zxy, a chemist in our street. Then two weeks ago she became worse that she finds it difficult to breath."
Long story short: RIP to Mrs XYZ. She died. She was having signs and symptoms of breasts cancer and was treating with herbal concoctions and drugs from chemists.
I was moved with pity, though in utter disappointment for their docility.
In a bid to forestall such pitiable scenarios, I made this videos to help:
*Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in the world (2.26million new cases every year)
*Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in Nigeria
*1 in every 14 Nigerian woman is at risk of breast Cancer.

socialmediaman: Feminism is misunderstood by many Nigerian women who advocate for it. I also do not agree with certain parts of feminism, especially the ones that advocate for equality of leadership in the household. I will get back to feminism in a moment, let me address something in the next 2 paragraphs.
Our parents understood there is something called role play in the house. The man is the head of household whether he makes less income or not. The decisions should be made by him after due consideration with the wife, but that responsibility should be left to him for the good of the home.
It’s like CEO and CFO. The CFO is the person who does the finances, and advises the CEO on budgets, expenditure and income. But the CEO is empowered and trusted to make decisions for the company. In the home, the man is the CEO while the wife is the CFO. If you don’t think your man should lead your family, don’t marry him, stay single or find someone else. You stifle the man’s ability to lead when you continue to contest leadership of the home with him. Many of us make more money than our parents yet we allow them to lead and make decisions, but in the home we want to lead our husbands.
Back to the topic of feminism. When it comes to equal pay, right to inheritance, right to vote, right to lead in organizations, right to be respected as humans, right of social association, I think many men already subscribe to feminism, though many Nigerian men struggle with that. Women should be able to have nights out with their friends and colleagues, belong to social and political groups etc but you see those household chores like doing dishes and laundry, vacuuming, cleaning and making food available? It’s her job, just like most men do the trash, wash the car, do the yard work and also help out sometimes
Anyway, feminism is about being treated fairly though the advocates almost always want to go beyond what it is, which is why many men oppose it. It’s a game, feminism will likely never be accepted by men because it threatens their role in the society and they not it’s not not just about equity, it’s something more. Nigerian feminism is worse, it’s about challenging gender roles on a platter of entitlement which is why it may never succeed.
Sir, you are 100000%% correct. I agree with you totally, wholly, and completely. God bless you.
Another one was when I was wooing a girl in a taxi... we had a very good conversation across contemporary issues and all ... I thought i was dope because she contributed so well after initially giving me attitude ..... I thought I already broke into her Firewall Defense System ..... I'm an heart hacker
I asked for her number , she declined ... I insisted ... she declined... I hate being rejected by a woman after I put on my B game .... A is reserved for Religious and/or Academic Spiricoco ladies ... Those ones will scan your life finish !!
After she alighted, I threw a joke like sis, I couldn't believe we won't be continuing our dope conversation, I thought it was good :
She poke from the taxi window and asked me coolly, in a firm, stern and dry voice ... with a serious look :
" Do I owe you anything" .....
I said "No" with some trembling ...
she said "Ok" and walked off ......
There are other dudes and the taxi driver ... But I don't care ... I maintain Elumelu face too and refocus
Refocus my brother! Who number help? Its better she didn't give, than giving with conditions that won't be feasible, like the one I talked about.
I saw a caption this morning about how 5billion was recovered for NHIS. https://www.nairaland.com/6676526/nasir-sambo-efcc-recovers-n5.4bn Immediately my went to my patients who died because of no money. Some have DAMAed (Discharged Against Medical Advice) b/c they could not afford stay in hospital again, even when their case is obviously bad.
Top most amongst them is Mrs XYZ who died of Snake bite. Amongst all things to kill someone, its snake bite.
Read till the END.
WHAT TO DO IF SNAKE BITES YOU
Snake bites are not still strange. I lost a patient yesterday because of snake bite. That’s why I bringing you this message. Its so painful seeing this creeping creature be a reason a human has to leave this earth. Amongst all things to die from, snake should not be part of it.
Anti snake venom Now this what we all know – that there is an anti snake-venom which neutralizes the poison the snake injects inside the body. But the catch is this, this woman we lost had this anti snake-venom, but she died yet.
She presented 5days post bite to our center. She had been receiving treatment from a hospital somwhere. and according to the relatives, she had been fine before relapsing. So what could have possibly happened!?
These are the possibilities:
1. It is possible that the anti snake venom she has been receiving was not potent enough. This may be true or false. But it’s a possiblity. There are so many things in the market. Anytime you have a snake bite, understand that you are wrestling with time. Hence you would not want to gamble your limited opportunities. Do not just go any where, this is information age, be sure of the authenticity of the anti snake venom you are opting for.
2. Another possibility according to my senior registrar was that, it is possible the amount of anti snake venom given was not commensurate with the amount of snake venom in the blood. So here its a question of dose. Even if you have recovered , it is advisable you receive the treatment some few extra days before asking to be discharged from the hospital.
3. The family of the snake is unknown: There are different types of anti snake venom as there are different types of snakes. The woman did not see or kill the snake that bit her. So she’s literally receiving a broad spectrum anti snake venom or worse still a totally different anti venom from the specie that bit her.
In essence , if luxury permits you, try and get a picture, or description of the type of snake that bit you. It will help in your treatment. If you were able to kill the snake, take it along with you to the hospital.
4. Its not every building that has the inscription “Hospital” , that is a hospital. So do not just enter any where to get treated of snake bite. Remember you are at race time. Yes I understand, you may have to choose to enter the most available “hospital” to outsmart time, even when that ” hospital ” is not hospitable enough. This is usually the case especially those living in rural areas. But here , your discretion will be put to good use.
In academic environment, it is called speed and accuracy. You need to act fast, and at the same time accurate. I wish you God’s grace!
Final advice:
Honestly speaking, amongst all things to die from, snake bite should be the least.
The bible said we are in enmity with the snake:
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Gen. 3:15
You are meant to crush its head first, and incapacitate it from striking your heel. May the reverse not be our case. Amen.
We need to know to properly weigh your virtue of sincerity, and as well distinguish political correctness from the Truth.
I say so because what you outlined has nothing to do with Catholicism, but individuals. The opinion and modus vivendi of your parish priest or Chaplin, or your parishioners, cannot be a valid premise to stereotype the oldest most organised organisation in the world.
This ain't time to apportion blames. The deed is done already. The Rubicon has been crossed! Kyrie eleison!
Is there a lesson to learn?
Dear men, women are generally emotionally volatile. I'm sure this man saw it coming but could not listen to the voice of reason. Be brave enough to walk away when she shows you the signs of her 1. Emotional shakiness, 2. Sense of entitlement and 3. Easy arousal to anger.
Secondly, dear men, all that glitters is not gold. Look b/4 you leap. There are also good women with big hips, find them. Respect the sanctity of marriage. Do not marry until you are ready to settle for only one woman. That's y it's called "settling down". Because its assumed you are done flying!
Thirdly, dear women. You are created with a sensitive emotion. That's why the devil approached Eve when Adam was absent. Whenever you are angry, walk away! Apply some restraint! Do not act immediately! Give it 24hrs, and the anger will settle, then you can act, you will certainly act more sensibly and responsibly. Please!
May God console the bereaved, have mercy on the deceased, and forgive the 'killer'.
Just like the sons Issachar, who understood the times, and know what Israel ought to do; It has pleased God to grant me an understanding of times in Nigeria, hence I'm here with a cry. Happy reading.
Permit me to title this asuch: HEALTH SEEKING BEHAVIOUR AMONG SOME NIGERIANS, A CALL FOR CONCERN
Having observed with dismay the attitude of an average Nigerian in seeking health, I was left with little or no option than to drop this piece; hoping that per adventure it might help to curb the the menace of drug abuse and quackery in our health system.
In Nigeria today, when someone is sick, the first thing most persons do is to get drugs from a patent medicine dealer/pharmacist, others would decide to go to lab test. Only few go to see a doctor as first line of action. This has done more harm than good.
What to do When you are sick in Nigeria When you are sick, the first thing to do is to see a doctor. That is the most fundamental thing. The reason is because it will be easy for your doctor to diagnose you properly at that initial time of disease onset. The symptoms would be clear to the doctor, that he can make accurate diagnosis in 99% of the times.
Unfortunately, most persons are their own doctors. The keep treating themselves, only to present to the doctor when issues become awkward. Sadly, they would not tell the doctor how far they have gone in self medicating. The end result is that it becomes difficult to know if you are suffering from a complication of self medication or the actual disease.
That’s not all. When you see your doctor, he will ask you a lot of questions (history taking), after which he will examine you. In more than 95% of the cases, your doctor makes diagnosis with just history taking and physical examination. Laboratory tests may not be necessary. If there would be need for lab tests, the doctor would request for the appropriate lab tests.
It is very inappropriate for you to start going to lab on your own. What exactly are going to test. Malaria and typhoid? This is the unfortunate part. You hardly see anyone that goes to lab without coming out with malaria and typhoid positive result.
It is now like a default result: malaria and typhoid. For your information, Widal test is outdated. It is no more diagnostic of enteric fever (typhoid). But they will not tell you this.
A friend of mine chatted me few days. That he went to lab, and had raised ESR, and was asking the causes of high high ESR. This is like asking a mechanic, what are the causes of your car refusing to start. Where exactly do you want him to start explaining?
Doctors do not treat lab results. We treat the individual. In other words, it is possible you’ll have an abnormal lab result, yet the clinical scenario says otherwise. That is, what is on the lab papers is not in tandem with the clinical outlook. The guiding principle for the doctor is first your clinical state, and not the lab results.
Sequel to the foregoing, the need to lessen dependence and inordinate craving for lab tests cannot be overemphasized. It is not advisable. In most cases, you end up spending your money on irrelevant investigations.
However, it would be foolhardy to feign ignorance of the genesis of the problem. Looking on the other side of the coin, who would not want an expert diagnosis? I guess none. The average woman on the street would first check, instead of using the only 5000 naira on her to pay for consultation fee, she would use it to go straight to the drug shop and buy drugs. Is this a better alternative? Absolutely no!
So many cancers would have been prevented if the patients presented early to the doctor. Other cancers would have been detected early if the patients were not busy treating malaria and typhoid. Leukaemia and malaria almost present the same way. All that “fevers” is not malaria and typhoid. These two diseases (malaria and typhoid) have suffered a lot in the hands of so many Nigerians.
What is the Solution? The government should make primary health care cheap. Let patients feel how cheap it is to see a doctor before buying drugs or heading for the lab. In this way, so many malignant diseases would be detected early.
Even in the interim, while we wait for government, please, do not look at money when health is involved. An Igbo adage said: aghara ndu kpaa aku, onye iro erie uru (when you go after wealth at the expense of your life, the enemy will enjoy the profits). Even if it means borrowing, please do. Even if it means calling for help from social groups you belong (like church) , please do.
Finally, if you see a doctor, and still feel unsatisfied, see another. Do not make hasty conclusions from an untoward experience you had from a particular doctor.
I believe this helps you. Onye nu ya koro agbataobi ya (Anyone that hears, should tell their neighbour).
Fantachapman: The girl I am engaged to and want to marry told me today that i love her more than she loves me. What does this mean?
There was something we were discussing and I told her there are several things that she does that makes me doubt if she truly loves me. She then replied saying, she loved her ex more than he loved her, and so she decided to not love anyone more than she loves them. That as for me, I love her more than she loves me, that’s why I sometimes thinks she doesn’t love me.
I told her this is not something you tell someone you want to marry and she said I am taking it too far.
Please am I making a mistake to want to marry her? Does she love me? Or am I taking her statement too far like she said?
She loves you. Just that she needs more emotional intelligence. Small pikin dey worry her.
Reference: The virus hasn't morphed to be a direct threat to that age group so for now no problems but, BUT it is only a matter of time before it jumps the age barrier.
The biggest challenge remains the long term physiological damage this virus is going to cause to humanity as a whole, symptoms or not. We will learn more of this pandemic as the years unwind.
Now this is sense talking. I have always maintained, if there are places to open ,it's the schools because the age range on schools almost have 99.9% survival rate. And if there are places to be on lockdown, it's the markets, because they have the adult population that is most at risk.
ikorodureporta: why do you people like comparing markets?? most markets are open spaces, compared to the hostel lifestyles in schools.. There's no basis for comparison.. bsides, children ain't adults that can care for themselves
ikorodureporta: why do you people like comparing markets?? most markets are open spaces, compared to the hostel lifestyles in schools.. There's no basis for comparison.. bsides, children ain't adults thatt can care for themselves
Who are the population at risk?? Adults or children?
Pls go to worldometer, and see the number of young people covid has killed and the number of adults covid has killed, then you tell us the people that are actually suppose to be on lock down.
