CultureRe: Which Igbo Dialect Do You Like The Most by odumchi(mod): 11:17pm On Jun 21, 2011
Yes The likes of Sunny Bobo and the Oriental brothers make Owerre Igbo sweet to the ear. In Sunnys songs he often uses "Yoma" instead of "Lotta or Lossa" which adds to the mystery of the Owerre tongue. As for me, Ngwa and Aba Igbo is like a whole other language. If you're speaking with an Aba native who's been influenced by the native style, you have to open your ears.

And yes Aro Igbo is wonderful. What a small world we live in. Aro has it's own mysteries too because every village (19) has it's own special style of saying certain words. For example people from ugwuakuma say "ande" instead of "ayinde" (us). One can spend a lifetime studying the Igbo language.

vicenzo:
You are right, every igbo dialect is unique and wonderful, for example,i don't fancy owerre dialect, but i am a big fan of oriental brothers, the owerre dialect is so good in music, even though i don't really understand all they say,and i love ikwerre dialect too, especially the brand used by duncan mighty in the song ''jesus bu eze'' oh! I love the way the asaba man says "wa" rather than fa.
Aro dialect is easy to understand,i have a friend who hails from ugwuavo arochukwu,i understand 100% of what he says, when talking with the parents.

That's one of the disadvantages of living abroad sad

But it is also amazing that you posses knowledge of (I'm guessing) 4 languages. (English, French, Your ethnic language, and pidgin). Tell me, how do you maintain your English? I'm guessing in French dominated France, other languages are generally frowned upon.

And yes YouTube is very helpful for those of us trying to connect to the Motherland, but such thing is useless since I do not have speakers lol.

What is the name of your dialect? In idemili we equally use osiso, but because every word is usually spoken in its shortest form,we are more likely to say"oiso" rather than osiso.
Some dialects normally use ekwukwo instead of akwukwo, they always tend to replace a with e, so that ano becones eno, akpa(bag) becomes ekpa, akwu(palm fruit) becomes ekwu,i have a friend who hails from alaye in bende abia state, whenever he is speaking with his parents,i always notice this replacement of a with e,nkanu people in enugu are equally guilty of this.
My dialect is Arochukwu. I often find myself having to
Think twice to decipher the type of Igbo spoken by the Ngwa or those on the extremes of Igboland as you pointed out. But despite the dialect, I believe every dialect is wonderful and must be preserved.

Osoufia seems like the veteran of comedy. His films are hilarious and so are Mr. Ibu's but I think Osoufia had more appeal.

Don't be shy, post your opinion.
PoliticsRe: Reducing The Population Pressure On Lagos by odumchi: 4:36am On Jun 21, 2011
Since when did a few Miles of Rail cost $150M??

O boy you have to stop thinking like an American and think like an African, no wonder USA is in so much debt, 150M for a few lines of rail? cmon.
Nigeria doesn't need to import a single thing other than the actual train itself. Local iron from Enugu can be smelted and used to produce Steel for the rails, and maybe wood from nearby Cameroun can be imported at a cheap price. This project will defibately put millions back to work since men will be needed as haulers, carpenters, blacksmiths and laborers. Such a project should cost no more than N1Billion ($100M).
It would be a great boost to local economies as armies of cooks and peddlers would be required to feed the masses of laborers and will surely create permanent jobs.
PoliticsRe: Reducing The Population Pressure On Lagos by odumchi: 1:04am On Jun 21, 2011
@ Jason

I must support you on this one. A national railway network must be built. It would not cost much since Nigera is a small country in size. Nations like the USA have been able to create a cross continental railroad even though the USA is more than 5x larger than Nigeria. I'd suggest each region (N,W,E) should compete and construct a railroad that connects all of their major cities and finally to Abuja.

This would surely ease transportaion pressure but such a feat seems unreachable in Nigeria. We are still unable to create a perfect 4-lane road with proper safety measures not to talk of a national railway that requires round the clock maintenence and funding.

On Oct 1, 1960, what was the capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? Not the British Possession of Nigeria.

Why must you ALWAYS find fault in everything someone does even though you cannot produce anything better?

PoliticsRe: Reducing The Population Pressure On Lagos by odumchi: 12:33am On Jun 21, 2011
I will give you three reasons why Lagos is overpopulated and holds so much importance in Nigeria, after all it is the Centre of Excellence.

1. Lagos is on a key location. Lagos is nearby many other West African business cities such as Accre. Lome, and Cotonou. It is situated perfectly for business and is one of Nigerias few natural harbours.

2. Lagos is to the Western World than any other major city.  If you are sailing in the Atlantic from Europe or the Americas, the first major industrial mgacity you will come across is Lagos. It is closer to America and Europe than any other port. Apart from Lagos, the enxt major African city is Cape town in South Africa which is more than 2000 miles away.

3. Lagos was the original capital of Nigeria and far too much investment has been made in it so why bother re-organising?

This is among the reasons why the capital was moved from Lagos to Abuja. Lagos is too dangerous and unsecure. Imagine in a war, enemy ships would easily be able to shell Lagos to ashes from the comfort of the sea and destroy the Nigerian economy and goernemnt putting the nation in disorder.

Not Every Ethnic block was directly from Africa but we all have a common ancestor that migrated from Africa[/b]. At round 200,000 ce the first modern humans left the East African forests and divided into three groups.

Group A went multiplied and spread across west and central Africa.

Group B went to North Africa and then to the Middle East.

Group C went to southern Africa and then migrated to Madagascar and from there, they went to Australia and South East Asia.[/b]The descendents of Group B divided again into four more groups. The first group migrated to Russia and adopted white skin. The second group went to Europe and also adopted white skin. The third group went westward towards east Asia andadopted a heaivier skin tone due to increased elevation, and the fourth group remained in the middle east. That is how we humans came to be where we are today.

Ileke Idi

You are quite foolish. What is it with you and the east? Where Is there kidnapping in Enugu? Kidnapping only occurred in Niger Delta states. Enugu is one of the few cities in Nigeria able of fully powering it's population and there is no garbage problem. If you'd like garbage I suggest you refer back to your Omo land and look at the acres of dumps outside Lagos and Ogbomosho.

I am very fascinated by the Yoruba people and the Omo language but things like you are fast making me lose my interest.

Ileke-IdI:
There's nothing romantic about getting kidnapped either. There's nothing tropical or romantic about Enugu, which is currently dealing with high level of refuse.

Seriously, there's nothing romantic about Lagos either. Last time I went, I couldnt wait to depart to my lovely state, Ekiti. But that was a few years back, heard that things have "changed", hope so. Coming home soon, yahhhhhhhh!!! cheesy

I give it to CALABAR!!! I make it a must to go to one of their carnivals. CALABAR followed by no other.
TravelRe: Most Romanticized City In Nigeria by odumchi: 5:40am On Jun 19, 2011
Top Five List:

Owerre
Lagos
Calabar
Enugu
Port Harcourt

Owerre is the romance capital of Nigeria and the south. Too many Igbo love songs draw attention and praise to the beauty and people of Owerre. A beautiful city in deed, with firm traditional and romantic roots expressed in many songs such as those of Sunny Bobo.

Lagos is the cosmopolitan and commercial capital of Nigeria, a city of opportunity. Too many people have sold everything they had just to go to "the city" and struggle. Lagos symbolizes the desire to work hard and succeed and the romanticism of poverty amid high class grandeur.
PoliticsRe: Who Is Nigeria's Most Respected Statesman (dead Or Alive)? by odumchi: 5:00am On Jun 19, 2011
Alhaji Sir, Ahmadu Bello. One of the most respected and honest men in early Nigerian history. He wasn't like our leaders of today, he spent time with his family at their little farm in the North instead of collecting wealth.

In my own dialect it is "Aligbo obodo ka'uto Nara ekele".

SportsRe: Kanu Or Jay Jay : Who Was Bigger Player? by odumchi: 8:41pm On Jun 17, 2011
Kanu Nwankwo forever! He is a very generous individual. Kanu has done so much for others such as donating funds to help Kick polio out of Nigeria, and hosting youth tornaments in our town to expose young talent. He is also the symbol if perseverence and strength in football, after a heart surgery he still went on to play and score more goals. I'm sure Okocha is also very decorated and generous but Ill have to side with Kanu. grin

Mumu. You no go fit take correction.

GoodLuck is from Bayelsa state. No bi so?
You are all Hipocrites. You say that Igboland does bot reach the Atlantic but then you claim that GoodLuck is an Igbo man while his state directly borders the Atlantic ocean. I've stated my case, Just as Bornis and Kanuri speak Hausa the north so is the case with the South East and South South with Igbo.

Late Pres. Umaru Yar'Adua is Fulani. And Umaru is an Hausa name GBAM.
PoliticsRe: For The Last And Final Time: Benue Is Not North by odumchi: 8:13pm On Jun 17, 2011

He Is an IJAW. Many IJAW speak Igbo as a second language.

When referring to the North, we mean NE ie Hausaland

CareerWorking For Five Months Without Pay by odumchi(op): 9:21pm On Jun 16, 2011
A friend of mine, situated in Lagos, Nigeria has a job with a Building Supply Materials Company. Before this, he had a good job at a Cement Trucking Corporation but he was laid off due to inadequate funding. He searched for a new job for months and finally landed this job. He was promised a handsome pay and according to him, his employer began to complain of bad business and poor revenue by the ending of the first month.
Seeking to avoid unemployment, my friend continued to work with his present company and was promised recompensation in due time.
Three more months have passed and his boss has yet to pay him for his services. So far he has worked 5 months with this employer and he is reluctant to quit since he is still expecting compensation. He has overdue mortgage payments for the house in which he lives and he has other important financial obligations. He has asked me to advice him and I am looking for any helpful ideas.

Thank you in advance.
