nuella: The Lord's Prayer aka Our Father or Pater Noster (if you're co inclined) was part of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount which our Lord Jesus Christ taught to deplore people who are used to grandiose prayers for the purpose of being seen to pray. It is a standard on how to pray, the ONLY standard that truly matters if you ask me.

"God's will" will be done whether we like it or not, Remember what happened to Jonah when he thought he could dictate for God.

Jesus Christ (our ONLY advocate) prayed for God's will to be done instead of his own, we must be VERY careful when we put HUMANS on a pedestal when there is no MORE middle man between God and man.

KunleOshob, this bitterness you have against ministers of God is amazing. you sound like you have being duped over and over again by pastors via tithing, offerings, seeds and firstfruits.
Inasmuch as the tithing is compulsory as well as the firstfruits, it is still not by force o!
The same way the bible says "ye must be born again" but you cannot force a man to be born again and succed by it. It takes love for God to be born again so also it takes love for a man to give of his substance to God.
By the way what is your yardstick for measuring the fake or real pastors and are you ordained by God to do the measuring?

I beg to differ oga Joagbaje,  I don't know your background but there is NO Pastor that will take the place of my parents, folks should not depend on Pastors for lessons they should have gotten at home hence the brainwashing we see so much of these days especially with Nigerian Churches.
The Church doesn't make the Christian, it is the Christian that makes the Church. No wonder we see so much people trying to "conform" by following their sect's doctrine to the letter in public but are something else in private, God sees everything unlike pastors or what have you

In your haste to condemn brother man, you forgot what I stated in the beginning of the piece- that I came across it in a Nigerian national publication and it made a good read enough for me to want to share parts of it with everyone on NL.

I don't have any horses in this race, I thought we could discuss as grown folks without retorting to personal attacks and other distractions, at the end of the day, "to each his own" plus the fact that "each of us will have to work out his/her own Salvation with fear and trembling"

I read this piece when I was there a few weeks ago and there are Churches everywhere you turn which begs the question: Is it all about numbers/money now or actually winning souls for Christ?

I didn't know NL turned into a dictatorship as that can be the only reason to advocate a ban on someone for speaking their mind on another person. Whatever he said or wrote about someone remains his opinion unless he is somehow force feeding you the same.

I came across this recently in a Nigerian publication and thought I should pass it on and see where the debate leads:

(1) His Sermons/messages are always on happiness, joy and says God is always merciful to forgive sins, He is FAKE

(2) A pastor that 99% of his message is about things of this World- mansions, prosperity, cars, etc. If he is to give testimony about proof of his ministry, it is about the latest cars, houses, clothes or places he has visited.

(3) Pastors doesn't talk about Heaven and doesn't direct peoples' heart to God and only preaches God as a father Christmas; messages mostly on what God can do for you and not what you can do for God, does not tell you to repent and get out of unGodliness and do what's right.

(4) Every Sermon ends in offering or raising money, almost everything can be redeemed with money

(5) Pastor whose church members live very unrighteous public and private lives.

Try and apply these and see how many pastors survive this scrutiny,

And Jesus Christ GAVE his LIFE for our SAKES, ALL FOR FREE.

We do know that God would not support the kind of robberies being performed on Nigerians from all corners, the human way of thinking would be that those who can't accept Nigeria's change for the better would have to die but God might have other plans for them. I use to laugh at the common Nigerian refrain " over my dead body", we make that without knowing what side God is on which would mean that if God supports the opposing view, that person will have to die

It is sad that you're giving me a wrestling history lesson because of the analogy in my previous post, dude, I can drive up to their headquarters in Stamford CT if I was that inclined, the deceit of that era is what I was alluding to.

I went to high school in that area and the family that owns your Church then were known for Assemblies of God Church and the police commish, so I was not around to witness the birth of "In God's name PLC" but I will be in Nigeria in a few months to see things for myself how far Nigeria has come in this kind of movement which started in the good old USA.

Everything about this kind of movement starts and end with "GIVING", I don't need to tell you about my giving because I am not supposed to but what you need to know is that if "it ain't in the Bible, I ain't doing it", Jesus Christ died/paid the ultimate sacrifice for our sins to SET US FREE and not the bondage of money. The so called poor have a lot to GIVE too despite what your creed might think, giving is not always about money-in fact, money is the least among the things you can give.

As Christians, it is our duty and obligation to help those in need where ever you find them be they Christian or not and commit your heart and soul to Jesus Christ and not some man. Jesus Christ himself as our FRIEND gave his life so that we may live and die no more, I don't know what they preach to you at CE, I was out of Nigeria by the time you guys started and I have been to Ewu, think about that for a second ( ).

Nigerian Churches have taken GREED to a whole new level, if folks understand and want to pay 10% to a Church, that's fine but don't tell me God requires your 10% of money, effort, etc, If you are God's property, it means all of you not just a percentage, too much brain washing might have screwed up your thinking is my take (and it doesn't suck )

I support this statement 100%, people are stereotypical, For instance many of you are familiar with the Dec 25th incident, when I reported back to work after the holidays, everyone started looking at me like I was some kind of plague, someone made a smart comment and guess what I replied back to him that I did not care what/how/why they looked at me, but its the same security check I have, that they do so they need to get over it.

This was another incident again, I use to access NL before from my work computer and one faithful morning, I tried to login into the system, and it tells me "ACCESS DENIED" I should contact our IT security department, I tried again because I thought I was doing something wrong, this time it went to a lock down mode, anyway long story short, I was placed on administrative leave for a whole week of investigation which I was called back. I was locked out not because I have been accessing a forum, but because it was a Nigerian forum Nairaland.com from a secured system. Tell me what other work place discrimination are you looking for even though I had access like other people had , but just for the fact (go figure). Did I let that trouble me, answer is NO, NO, and NO, rather I'm very careful on pages that I look through on the internet and since I bring my laptop in to work, I don't use the secured wireless, I use my blackberry to connect to the internet that way I can come on NL if I wish to.

I'm just sharing my own experience and there are tons more but did not let that deter me one bit. As for going back, I know probably I'm going home in the next few years which would be awesome if I can get a wonderful job back home, but I'm definitely not going home because of the resentment or the stereotypes of Nigerians, I'm going home because I'm ready to go home to make a change,

I couldn't agree more with you, There are stereotypes in Nigeria too just that we don't see it or sometimes not aware of it all together. We must not be ungrateful to our hosts but also not become doormats, a balance is required in every case. Folks tried that on me and I asked them why no one is talking about Amsterdam ( where i stopped over in '04 only to see them park the KLM plane from Nigeria about two miles from the tarmac but not the one from Dulles, go figure)
