PoliticsRe: Pensioners Paralyse Activities At Lagos Gov’s Office by ogb5(m): 11:09am On Sep 24, 2013
These pensioners and their trouble again.

Don't they know we have 1billion naira per km road to build? We need money seriously. And another tinubu birthday is drawing close, that's another 1 billion naira expense. Please they should bear it longer, afterall they are old and will die soon.

They should just not disturb Fashola. Anyway, they are poor people, at worst we will deport them from Lagos to their villages or keep them in home for destitute.

PoliticsRe: 2015: Jonathan Can Run - Atiku by ogb5(m): 9:04am On Sep 23, 2013
When making laws people need to look at the total picture. Saying the president will rotate between regions is good but you need to balance that with what the constitution says.

If obj had died in office in his first term would atiku had refused to be president? Will he have said the post is zoned to the sw therefore he will step down and allow another person from the sw to complete obj's tenure?

These politicians are just very selfish, thinking of only what will benefit them. If not for selfishness all they need to do is to modify their rotation agreement to allow any sitting vice president to become president in the case of death, impeachment or incapacitation of the president. And follow it up with an agreement that any sitting president will be allowed to vie for his constitutionally accepted 2 terms. Thereafter the position of the president can rotate to the next region.

but due to selfishness, they all want to be president at the same time.
PoliticsRe: Governor Hides Jonathan’s One Term Pact Document by ogb5(m): 7:32am On Sep 23, 2013
Now I thoroughly believe that such written agreement never existed. The Northern governors will not not sign an agreement with a s/s president that guarantees power to return to them in 4 yrs time and keep such agreement with a s/s governor.

But why are the northerners lying blatantly.

By your long essay in just one paragraph, I really believe you a a soldier in war front.

I pray the politicians hear your cry.

But I think the problem is with your fellow military folks. There should be minimum standard of equipment and weapons to made available and maintained before commencing a military operation. The President has declared a state of emergency and given the military the order to use all necessary force to bring the enemy to book, certainly you do not need a politicians order for the airforce to respond to a call for air support.

Cetainly Nigeria military has Armoured personnel carriers, I don't think they need presidential permission to deploy them to protect their men in the field.
My prayer is with you people and I pray for your safety, but tell your military generals to plan and execute their operations like true generals.

PoliticsRe: Ribadu Testifies On Ibori's $15m Bribe & Attempts On His Life by ogb5(m): 8:16am On Sep 21, 2013
Od31: What is the one saying? you are defending some one who has confessed that he stole. you people keep saying Ribadu was OBJ attack dog. This is most senseless. the people you claim he attacked are they corrupt or not? if 36 Governors are corrupts, he can not get all 36 at a time. If Ribadu was give more time, or people would have been convicted. He was the one that sent Ibori to prison first in Nigeria, Kalu of Abia state, etc. This Ribadu is the only person that fought corruption and exposed the height of corruption in this country. The others Efcc guys after Ribadu, has not be able to arrest or jail any past politician/Gov. I guess the right man you mean will have to stop Govt, because am sure 90% of politicians are corrupt as corruption is the way of politics in Nigeria. No body can do all, he did well as Efcc chairman, pls give him that credit.
first ibori was convicted for money laundering not stealing, there is a difference.

Secondly, fighting corruption goes beyond trying to put people in jail at the end of their tenure. That does just work because by then the harm had already been done.

The people Ribadu went after were simply those obj had issues with, alams, ibori, kalu. That is not the way to fight corruption. If an efcc chief choose to fight those who have issues with the president, the corrupt politicians quickly learn their lessons, continue their corruption but befriend the president.

Today someone like uduaghan who has performed worse than ibori has little to fear from efcc because he is in tune with Jonathan. That is the lesson efcc taught him from the ibori saga. Continue stealing but be on the president`s camp.

What Ribadu should have done to be effective was to have pushed through legislature that would have ensured that those who are mandated within the system check the executives were forced to perform their roles. And were punished when they failed to provide the necessary checks and balances.

The result is that today the houses of assembly still act as rubber stamp for the govs, approving anything sent to them by the governors.

The heads of civil service still allow contracts that did not pass through due processes to be awarded by the executives and used to syphon money

PoliticsRe: Ribadu Testifies On Ibori's $15m Bribe & Attempts On His Life by ogb5(m): 4:46am On Sep 21, 2013
Ribadu is just another lier like the rest of them.

Ibori gave you 15million usd for you to give him clearance letters. How much did the other 35 govs give to get their clearance letters. We know most of the govs looted so how come they got clearance letters.

Ribadu was not fighting corruption, he was simply an attack dog for obj.

In Ribadu's recent interview he claim worse thieves than Ibori are walking free and being celebrated. So why concentrate all effort on smaller thieves leaving the bigger thieves to have a field day.

Claiming Ibori stole or wasted half of delta state revenue is plain lie, how did so much infrastructure got to be built by Ibori in delta state if 1/2 of the revenue were wasted as Ribadu claim. That is a classic case of giving a dog a bad name to hang it.

Asked why he started investigating Ibori, Ribadu claim to be acting on petitions from ordinary deltans, thats another lie, Obj put him to it, simple.
In the ribadu recent interview, he said Ibori case became different because of the publicity attached to the case, the question is, who attracted more publicity to the case? is it the ordinary deltan who he claimed pertitioned ibori? No, it was Obj and his sw media crew, that was what made the difference. Obj wanted Ibori punished for forcing him to respect the constitution as regarding the 13% derivation and Ribadu was willing tool to be used.

I dont want to be seen to be holding brief for any politician since most of them are plain demons, but the Nigerian professionals are not doing better either, as a professional policeman, Ribadu should have brought changes to the system that will prevent politicians from looting instead of being an attack dog for any politician. That is the expectation of the average Nigerian.
Allowing people to loot for 8 yrs with the hope of catching them when they leave office is plain stupid.

What is expected from anti corruption agency is amendment of the laws to make it impossible to steal, and quick punishment for those who stole. If Ribadu claimed to have fought corruption, what was the result? Corruption is still as rampant today as ever. On that account, he is a failure.

When the right man comes, he will ensure that ministers, commisioners and members of the civil service who have no immunity but allow their ministries to be used as conduit for siphoning public funds by the immunity wielding politicians will be brought to book.

That efcc will not be a tool for fighting political enemies but for fighting corruption.

skeletine: It is a lie that OBJ and UMYA were not criticised by their ethnic governors. Please stop spreading falsehood. I wouldn't know if you were old enough and well aware when they ruled but they were variously and VERY well criticised, especially OBJ in the south-west.

Please for the sake of prosperity, stop spreding falsehood.
The people from the south west that criticised obasanjo where mostly from opposition parties and it was normal opposition politics.

Amaechi can not be in the same party with the president and constitute himself into opposition. All members of a party are suppose to buy into their party manifesto and vision.

Thanks.
you are the one spreading falsehood here.

Aliyu is a bloody lier.

Who told him political office holders need to vacate their positions prior to a SNC.

We need to sit and talk. Everything should be on the table including the right to secede from the nation. Do we really need a SNC to allow people to secede, why not just organise a referendum and allow the people to vote on who they want to share a country with.

Sudan, Soviet union, Yugoslavia and others that have broken up did not organise a SNC where all political office holders had to resign prior to the talks.

Jonathan should just call for a referendum let's vote on whether we want to remain as one nation or not.

Who wants to be in the same country with people who can afford to keep 80% of their kids out of school in this day and age

kokoA: you have made a very sensible comment devoid of the usual "gutter criticism" of nairalanders. I respect you for that. But you must understand that the fact that the yoruba and hausa governors never criticised their OBJ and UMY doesn't make Uduaghan right. Change must start from somewhere. Amaechi may not be the needed face of change but the fact remains that what he said up there is 100 percent true. We must learn to tell our politicians the truth irrespective of where they come from or what language they speak.
Giving constructive feedback to your leaders is different from rebelling against your leader. Leaders welcome constructive feedback, no one likes rebellion. Amaechi is not giving feedback, he is rebelling and he is lucky that he is doing it to someone like GEJ.

The yorubas and Northern pdp leaders did not criticize their Obasanjo and Yar Ardua not because they are afraid of the president but because they know there is more to gain from giving constructive feedback and teaming with the president than from rebelling.

Amaechi and the Rivers people will lose from the attitude of Amaechi.

PoliticsRe: The Right To Bear Arms In Nigeria by ogb5(m): 11:04pm On Sep 19, 2013
alexis: So, the only way to legally own a gun in Nigeria is to register it as a hunting rifle and apply for a hunting license?. I am not asking for a concealed gun i.e. a pistol. Technically, my car is my property and if I am been attacked or robbed, I have the right to defend myself smiley

What kind of gun can you get for hunting in Nigeria? Where can you apply for this gun or license?

It appears that there is little to no information in this area and I wonder if there is even legislation for this.
The only way for civilians to legally get a gun is getting a hunting rifle, registered with the police in your locality. The type of guns people normally get is double barrel gun or pump action.

You apply for the licence at the police station, am told you are not supposed to take the gun out of the police jurisdiction where it was registered, so technically you are not supposed to be travelling around with it to defend yourself in case of robbery on the highway. But people do different things from what the law says, and in most cases if the gun is registered you get into less trouble with the police even if you use the gun for other purposes other than hunting.

Honestly I will not advise anyone to have a gun in their car while driving in Nigeria. If you run unexpectedly into armed robbers and they see the gun, you are dead. If a policeman stop you and in their numerous stop and search, sees the gun, he may decide to shoot you first as an armed robber and ask questions later.

Why get a gun anyway, if you have money you can apply for police protection when travelling or to guide your home. They will come armed to give you 24/7 protection at a little fee.
Having a gun means you might have to defend yourself with it when the need arise and if you fail in the process, you will be meeting God early.

A police DCO once advised me to get a gun to protect my property. I turned it down because little by little you can get into serious trouble with guns in Nigeria

kokoA: He never exonerated himself from being part of the rot. @topic.. I think Uduaghan was totally wrong. As a political leader, he shouldn't be making statements capable of polarizing the already polarized country further. What's the meaning of " opposition to the president should not come from his south-south zone". So, the south-south people keep pretending all is well since "their son" is president. Smh.
Uduaghan is very correct, the south south people are not in a position to be oposing the president publicly, moreso south south people in the ruling party. How many yoruba pdp governors opposed obasanjo when he was president, how many northern pdp governors opposed Yar ardua?

The south south pdp governors have unlimited access to Jonathan, if they have any idea that can move the country forward, they should meet GEJ and discuss their ideas and try to sell their ideas to him. Castigating GEJ publicly will not bring Amaechi any good.

Amaechi claim that the poverty level has increased from 30% in the 70s to 70% today, what he failed to realize is that the northerners he is presently romancing are largely responsible to the increased poverty in the land

you can get gun for hunting purpose legally in Nigeria.
You have to register it with the police. It has to be a gun that can not be concealed, something like a rifle.

But it is registered for hunting only and if you decide to use it for something else, it's up to you.
Note that owning a gun in Nigeria may put you at increased risks as criminal elements may decide to get it off you at all cost.

They will need to amend the constitution first before this bill can be legal.

" The privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone conversations and telegraphic communications is hereby guaranteed and protected."

The privacy of my telephone conversation is guaranteed by the constitution, no one can enact a law that is against the letter and spirit of the constitution.

If he'll make 2015 a more covert quest and focus on winning the hearts of Nigerians Atiku and his antics will be history!
Easier said than done.It is easy to give advice. How do you expect the president to focus on delivering the job when there are distractions every where.

A group of people clone the president's party and the president should do nothing about it? even when a court orders them to maintain status quo, they go about appointing new officers and opening new offices.

How does a president stay focus when they are burning the country and the ruling party?

Like he said, the problems are caused by politically irrelevant people, they are causing problems and scheming to stay relevant.

What is exactly wrong if Obasanjo stays out of partisan politics and plays the role of a mediator instead of causing controversies for the president.

Atiku is well acclaimed thief, why should the president allow a thief to split his party and keep quiet.
As for Amaechi, the president has not even spoken one word about him. What is wrong if Amaechi completes his 2nd term as governor and goes back to whatever business he was doing before coming into office. Must he die in public office?

The president must be able to multitask. He should work for the electorates and at the same time chase thieves like Atiku out of public discussions. Atiku, a known thief can not represent our interests better than the president
