I suspect that the results from the remaining SS and SE states will not come in, and will be awaited indefinitely to render the entire elections inconclusive. This may then be followed by litigation in court to challenge the results from most of the states in the north. You can guess what we would be headed for at the end of the day. I smell serious constitutional crisis ahead.

Foreign Secretary and US Secretary of State joint statement on the Nigerian elections.
Our governments welcome the largely peaceful vote on 28 March. The Nigerian people have shown a commendable determination to register their vote and choose their leaders.
So far, we have seen no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process.
But there are disturbing indications that the collation process - where the votes are finally counted - may be subject to deliberate political interference. This would contravene the letter and spirit of the Abuja Accord, to which both major parties committed themselves.
The Governments of the United States and the United Kingdom would be very concerned by any attempts to undermine the independence of the Electoral Commission (INEC), or its Chairman, Prof Jega; or in any way distort the expressed will of the Nigerian people.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/joint-uk-and-us-statement-on-the-nigerian-elections
The expressed will of the people started getting distorted right from when INEC in collusion with APC permitted underage voters registration in the north, followed by voting of those minors on the 28th of march elections. In addition, the distortion also included midnight voting/rigging in the north, coupled with violence and threat of violence against GEJ supporters in the north. The US and UK should quit making these irresponsible comments that are not helpful to the country other than serving the selfish interests of these two countries. It is no longer news that they have been in support of Buhari and the APC as they sought to undermine the credibility of the entire electoral process, starting with the compromised voters registration in the north and the lopsided PVC distribution in favour of the north. In summary, the US and UK should desist from this silly meddlesomeness in the affairs of another country.

Obama is a secret muslim whose elections as US president is one of the worst things to have happened int the world. It is not a surprise that he is interested in the islamization agenda of Jihadist who want to take over the world. All his actions to the contrary all smack of hypocrisy when one considers his antecedents in Syria, Iran and latest, Yemen. Today, no thanks to Obama's policies, extremists are taking over a lot of arab countries and their attacks on the western world is becoming more brazen. His presidency has made the world a much more insecure place than he met it.

Coming back to Nigeria, GEJ has handled Obama's collusion with the Jihadists with wisdom. Today, the war against insurgency has picked up with more BH decimated, such that they cannot carry out their threats to undermine the elections. Kudos to our resilient and gallant armed forces and GEJ, their able C-in-C. We have no doubt that GEJ will be overwhelmingly re-elected today as president, as that is the only viable option towards moving forward as a united, virile country. By the grace of God, nigerians are coming out today en masse to reject Buhari and his foreign collaborators who want to destroy nigeria.

egift:
1. Since 2011, a lot has changed.
2. Nigerians are now aware of the incompetence of Jonathan.
3. Unlike 2011, APC have a wider and stronger political structures than CPC.
4. More voters, politicians, international communities now embrace the candidacy of Buhari.
5. The 2015 Campaign of Buhari is better funded and has been issue based, unlike Jonathan who spent more attacking the person of Buhari.
6. Buhari has penetrated Jonathan's primary stronghold, while Jonathan has lost ground in where GMB's base.
7. Nigerians are not happy with how things have been handled under Jonathan. Everyone wants Change. Apart from improvements in few places, we can't see any transformation in Jonathan's cosmetics.
8. Buhari has better understanding to the problems facing Nigerian. Untill 2015 New Year Message, Jonathan never accepted Corruption was a big problem.
9. Buhari and his Team have ran a better Presidential Campaign than Jonathan, even with smaller fund. Same thing to expect in the incoming administration.

Therefore this 2015, it is Mathematically impossible for Buhari to lose.

Sai Buhari.
You will be shocked because a combination of Buhari's indiscretions such as his rumored ties with BH and his role in the post election violence of 2011 has made him lose a lot of supporters. His extremist views that has been widely publicized through the various documentaries has not helped his cause. In addition, his use of threat of violence against GEJ supporters will not apply this time around. The cleaner electoral process will not allow him to do multiple thumb printing and under age voting, coupled with the fact that the initial hatred for GEJ in the north in 2011 is not the same today because of what the president has done for the north in the areas of agriculture, dam projects, transportation etc. This time around, GEJ will make much more inroads in the north than in 2011.

In the southwest, GEJ will get basically the same percentage of votes due to the efficiency of his grassroots campaign. Don't be deceived by the noise in the social media because more than 95% of the voting population are not on social media. GEJ's virtual monopoly of both AIT and NTA has given him the most media penetration across the entire country, and this will result in his getting much more votes than he did in 2011.

After the elections, people like you would learn a necessary lesson in the fact that the effect of social media in nigeria's elections is over hyped, especially when you are contesting against the incumbent who has access to almost limitless financial, security and institutional resources to contest the elections. By the grace of God, GEJ will defeat Buhari overwhelmingly in the elections. APC are already readying a story in anticipation of their impending defeat in the elections, but Nigerians would not be fooled because the majority are rooting for continuity.

This country is SO sick!!!
I just finished reading a post on Nairaland where GEJ awarded multi billion naira contract to the Agberos(OPC) who are popularly known as the nuisance of Lagos state.

They steal your money in daylight(daylight robber)

They are the majority under the bridge, not going to school at all(like the Hausa Almajiris).

OUR GEJ bypassed the 40 million unemployed graduates of Nigeria to award contracts worth billions of dollars to 'dullards'

OUR GEJ built 12 more universities which amounts to four to seven years waste of time after secondary school + 1 year NYSC time wasting; but he didn't remember to increase employment rate for graduates.

OUR GEJ refused to increase Corpers' allawee to 38k so that our youth can save 19k monthly out of it and use such to start business after service year; but instead, they kept hosting seminars on entrepreneurship. Okay, let's say u are collecting 19k allawee. U eat #200 per time, so #600 per day × 30 days. You spent #18,000 per 30 day months and #19,000 per 31 day months, without money for toiletries, cosmetics, shoes, clothes, etc.

OUR President empowers militants all over the nation(bribe) and left the literate graduates out of his plan. He made it seem as if being a vandal is a good job that pays in the long run.

OUR President made it seem as if going to school in the north is improper since he wouldn't protect the few going to school there (the CHIBOK'S GIRLS).

OUR PRESIDENT will soon grant BOKO HARAM amnesty, offering them billions of naira, but we graduates remain without good jobs.

ONLY A BLIND GRADUATE AND CORPER WILL VOTE YOU (GEJ) INTO POWER THE SECOND TIME.

I HAVE DECIDED!!!

Pls be a part of those who shares this truth

Congratulation to our next president Mr Buhari
You are talking as if APC and Buhari believe in free and fair elections. If the Lagos SIEC that organized the last LG elections had adopted half the measures being deployed by INEC, I can bet you that APC, then ACN would have lost atleast over 50% of the LGs in Lagos. In the north, Buhari recorded massive numbers in 2011 through the instrumentality of intimidation and threats of violence against GEJ supporters before the elections, and even after the elections. This time around, it will not be business as usual by the provision of adequate security facilitated by the deployment of soldiers. Adequate security is critical to the credibility of any election in Nigeria and this present arrangement is causing headache to APC because they can no longer employ their usual violence in the north. In the southwest, Tinubu's use of the thugs in the various motor parks in the southwest, especially Lagos, in rigging the elections is being neutralized by the open endorsement of the OPC of GEJ, coupled with the new procedures by INEC, in addition to the provision of adequate security through the deployment of soldiers for the elections. That is why APC have been in the forefront of the criticisms trailing the decision to deploy soldiers to provide perimeter security for the elections. It is therefore funny to see Buharists like you rejoicing prematurely because there is only one outcome in the march 28th elections, which is an overwhelming defeat for Buhari and the APC. Your eyes will be clear by the 29th of March, 2015. GEJ till 2019.

If Soludo had succeeded, a man earning 100,000 old naira per month would be earning 10,000 new naira per month, would have said that the purchasing value of your salary had increased due to what Soludo had done? Please, confusing yourself with this unintelligent post of yours. It is practically impossible to make one naira equal to one dollar in today's world economy. Why are you talking like this?

The reason Prof. Soludo's plan did not work was because Justice Minister Aondoakaa stopped it. Not that it was not doable. It was a project in motion.

For Gen. Buhari to say it, it shows someone is thinking of how to fix our deplorable economy. Not like GEJ who is breaking all records in corruption.

Please, tell GEJ to make the PWC Audit of the NNPC public before the election
.
Let me enlighten you if you care. Soludo wanted to realign the local currency to the dollar which has nothing to do with revaluation. If Soludo had suceeded, the purchasing power of the local currency under whatever name Soludo chose to call the new currency, would not have changed. When Ghana did it, the purchasing power of their new local currency did not change.

I would have loved to do a detailed analysis of your post but its late in the night for me, but l will summarize.

Dont know how old you are but l can tell you that l was old enough to handle a Dollar, when the Naira was EQUAL to the Dollar..... and our reserve was not anywhere a TRILLION, not even a Billion Dollars, back then.
Check the exchange rate in the early 70's and confirm my point.
Back then, Nigeria was exporting a lot of Cocoa, ground nut, Palm Oil, Rubber, e.t.c

It was done then, it can be done now... Period!

2.) To say a very strong naira is not good for Nigeria, to justify the worse-than-Zimbabwean "Naira' we are spending today, is not doing "full justice" to economics!
I wont go on a long analysis of Dangote or Ibekwe but let us just "invert" your statement and see how it pans out.

Can we say "A very strong Dollar is NOT GOOD for America"?.....
.....and despite at almost #240 => Dollar, has it stopped Nigerians from importing from America (most of our imported cars are from there, just to mention one item) or scrambling to buy the Dollar?
More importantly, has it STOPPED America from exporting its products all over the world, especially to Nigeria?
Answer is obviously NO!

Finally, as educated people, we must refrain from espousing what l will call "half knowledge", deliberately or otherwise, especially when doling out "economic precepts". Our analysis has to be "balanced" and reflected on all possibilities.

Let me make bold to say that what YOU THINK may be LOST from a "strong local currency" can be, .....and IS actually NEGATED by the following:

a.) Superior Products (which are always in demand, irrespective of higher prices)

b) Reputation (E.g, America has a "reputation" for "full options" vehicles thus, despite the additional cost, people will rather inport an "American Spec", than one from japan or Europe.

c.) Strong Local Market (Countries with Big population which has "HIGH PURCHASING POWER" can still take advantage of their strong currencies without much negative effect as MOST products from their Factories get consumed locally)

4.) Selective Production (This is similar to (a) above but here, emphasis is on producing goods that are either termed "luxury" or very 'high-tech" and or "uncommon" e.h high class armaments, expensive cars that gets Russians buying , e.t.c.

Bottom line: A Strong currency is NOT a disadvantage to a nation or its export (as you asserted) ...... if you have the right people managing the "MIX" of Economic policies!

I understand that such economic "management" is beyond a "I know Nothing" President or his thieving cohorts, more so in a Nigeria where the leaders stiLl dont recognize the fact that calling you "economic giant of Africa or ranking you #1 on some utopian index" MEANS NADDA, IF YOU CANT EVEN POWER YOUR HOMES OR FACTORIES FOR AT LEAST 12HRS IN A DAY! undecided undecided

We have been trying to do two things since the days of Shagari, without success!

1) Convince foreign INVESTORS that Nigeria is 'the country' to invest. Except for a few "crooked" investors who themselves are only here to scam our system, with the collusion of their local crooks, l have not seen any serious investors in Nigeria, for decades! Some are doing what is called "window-dressing", being around "on paper" .... just in-case something crops up undecided undecided

2.) Export Promotion by keeping a weak currency: This one is a no-brainer! What do we really produce in this country, that is "competitively" worth exporting, ..............using Generator and Diesel as the source of industrial power?

Please, our leaders should stop scamming the populace!
It will not happen, not with Buhari, certainly never with GEJ......unless power becomes at least 80% stable.

Lastpage!
Reading through your write-up brings me to the conclusion that you know little or nothing about modern day economic realities. Your argument dwells on the realms of possibilities and not on present day realities. America that you are quoting will go down the drain the day the rest of the world decide to move away from the dollar as the means of valuing their reserves, then the constant printing of more dollars coupled with the huge debt profile will wipe out the american economy. The template for all countries that want to achieve a favorable balance of trade against the rest of the world is the asian tigers like Japan, China, South Korea etc. These are the countries who are indeed exporting more than everybody than they import from them. That is what nigeria should aspire to achieve. Please, don't come here to be posting theories that are not in tune with the present day world economic realities. Buhari in making that statement simply typifies the poverty of ideas running through the APC, who in their desperation for power, continue to make unrealistic and bogus promises everyday.

One naira to a dollar because nigeria is far more industrialized and productive than the entire european union, united states, japan and china all put together. Even if the balance of trade between nigeria and the rest of the world put together is skewed in nigeria's favour, we will not be able to sustain an exchange rate like that. It will just make our products the most expensive in the international market. This is sheer idiocy of the highest order.
