I used to use my 2.4kva homaya to pump water during the day when the sun is up. Not sure now about the power rating of the pump but it was a surface pump. adrusa: Irrespective of the amount of battery you have, a 1.5hp submersible pump will shut down your 3.5Kva inverter. I dare anyone to try this and report back to the house. I have tried with a 3KW HF inverter before and it promptly shuts down. The pump initial power surge can get to almost 5kW. A good transformer (LF) based inverter may try, but I will like to see a report. |

Nice. Add osidima too, he is good with data analytics thesilentone: Welcome to this thread where we talk about all things Commodities - What they are, How to trade them, Why we should trade them, When to trade them. I have searched Nairaland for information on this topic and this is the very first one. So let us make it count.
Many folks know a lot about equities, fixed-income instruments, bonds even foreign instruments like Options but not a lot of information is readily available about trading Commodities as investors/traders in the Nigerian space. That is what we will aim to do with this thread.
Invite your Macro economic gurus over - we will need them.

Abeg this your source have a replacement board for the 2.4 KVA? I have one that I have been looking at since it became faulty. I do like the inverter, my experience with it has been good, FEGEITOK: I have 2 units of the exact same inverter. I have even used it to pump water though I had to turn off other appliances. Not the best use of the inverter I agree but I have had zero issues in the 2 years that I have run them.
That said do you mind sending it to Abuja so it can diagnosed and possibly repaired here?
When you said you sent them messages? Do you mind sending those messages along with the proof of purchase? Was it via the Schneider website or the reseller you bought from?
Who did you buy from?
My distributor is a big name Schneider shop.
I just put a call to them to find out if they would not mnd taking a look at the unit. They said they do not mind.
Do you have an idea what happened that caused it to go bad?
You said it is still under warranty. Do you have proof of purchase? If yes, I would like to help you take up the matter. |

Hmmmm, who would have believed that I would also start explain the terminologies involved in bonds. This is probably one of the first times I can say I understand it. So let me try to explain using the 2024 and 2025 bonds from my little understanding. The maturity dates are fairly obvious. Before talking about the coupon rate, Ask price and Yield to Maturity, we must start from the primary market as an analogy to TB. In the primary market, Bonds are sold at a rate of 100.00 naira. So, if you want to invest 100,000.00 naira, the quantity you will be able to get will be 1,000 units. Your interest on those 1k units will be 14.2% for the FGN Bond that matures on the 14th of March, 2024 and 13.53% for the one that will mature on the 23rd of March, 2025. i.e, 14.2% of 100k will be 14,200 naira. This will be paid in 2 batches of 7,100 naira per annum until maturity date. Ditto for the second one. 13.53% of 100k will be 13,5300 naira. This will be paid in 2 batches of 6,765 naira per annum until maturity date. Now, assume you need money and do not want to wait till maturity, you can now offer to sell your bond at a profit (that is more than 100 naira per unit) or at a loss (less than 100 naira per unit). This is equivalent to buying TB from the secondary market. So back to this example, these bonds are being offered at 107.240 and 104.490 respectively. That is the seller is asking for these prices. (Ask Price). The sellers are selling at a profit. If you the new buyer now has 100k also to buy, you will only be able to buy 932.488 quantity of the March 2024 bond and 957.03 of the March 2025 bond. (I arrived at these values by dividing 100k by the respective ask prices) Now, as far as the issuers in concerned. That new price is between the buyer and the seller. The price of the bonds are still going to be 100 naira in their books. That means, the value of your bond with the issuer will be 93,488.00 naira and 95,703.00 respectively. That means it is those respective values that the coupon rates will be applied to determine what you will be paid bi-annually. So, the yield rate is a way of telling you what the actual interest based on the Ask Price that you are paying for the bond will be. Simply put, while the person that bought at 100 per bond unit will be enjoying an interest rate that is equal to the coupon rate, you that bought at a new Ask Price will be enjoying an interest rate that is equal to the yield rate. Note, that the yield rate is not always lower than the coupon rate. Here 10% interest or yield rate is still fair to me. Please note, I am not a financial expert and this explanation is based on my own small understanding of the subject that was initially very confusing to me at some stage in my life. I will also accept any correction from a more knowledgeable person in good faith. IYGEAL: Good evening fellow investors,
Please I would like to be taught, like a high school student, what these figures, percentages and names mean in practical terms.
Maybe I have been misinterpreting them. I have read the literal meanings online but I want practical examples as regards our local market. For instance, there is a huge disparity in figures between the 2024 and 2025 bonds here in terms of ASK PRICE and YIELD TO MATURITY. |

How do you guide against energy theft with your option 2 which is an option I am beginning to like in the light of failing street lights everywhere? One way you can do this though is to get an inverter and bulbs that does not deliver conventional 220V, so that in the case of energy theft, it will be useless to the thief. isangjohnson: YOUR OPINION IS NEEDED PLEASE. We're currently working on getting solar street light installations/maintenance contract from the State Government. Two things we observed from the previous installations executed by a different company. 1. Inferior/cheap products were installed. The panels attached was not large enough to adequately charge the battery and sustain it till day break. It was even worse in the raining season/the overall weather conditions in our South South Region. 2. Lack of proper maintenance/monitoring. We're now coming up with two proposals. 1. To install quality solar street light products with at least 2 years warranty and not all these Chinese fake products that float Nigerian markets. 2. To order for lifepo4 cells/panels/inverters and other accessories, assemble them, build sub stations in different locations and use them to power the street light at night. Everything will be taken into consideration including energy saving bulbs/the watts/the number each major street will take to be tallied up with the lifepo4 battery, inverter/panels capacity that will power them throughout the night. Daily maintenance/monitoring will be needed for this. Please, your opinion is needed here. Currently, the state government is powering the street lights with diesel generator which I consider to be more costly. |

I was almost believing his position, perhaps you should find a way to edit that post so that folks understand that you do not agree with what he said. viperVIP: After being struck by malaria and not having the strength to type, I had to force myself having read what @techgeek777 wrote, on seeing @Valto's explanation, I felt relieved only to see that @techgeek777 still don't get it.
The mantims guy is a scam! I have bought both cells and packs severally from @Valto, no issues at all, he sells Grade A verifiable from the QR code. I've had to peel off the cover on one of his cells to see if there's a trick underneath but all came out fine.
I have no idea what grade this @mantims sells, but definitely not a veritable sales, I began suspecting him when he said he doesn't like selling cells, only built packs which he doesn't expect or want you to open. What's he hiding He gave 3 years warranty, ofcourse used cells will survive this under moderate use, digging deeper into some of his advertised pictures on here, I found out the QR codes are absent.
If you have taken time to learn on YouTube from those who has bought the good and bad ones, you will understand more. |
