English language is a yardstick for measuring education. From primary school up to university, English language is a MUST PASS course. Even if you want to study or work outside Nigeria in English speaking countries, you must be able to show proficiency in use of English.

As for Indians, English is not the only official language. They also have Hindi. You must show proficiency in one of the two to prove you're well educated just as you must show proficiency in French or English to show you're well educated by Canadian standard.
