Bizibi: Tinubu first tenure was massive looting with Ghana must go. Military regimes cost so much havoc to our economy and our psyche. I am very optimistic about the prosperity of Lagos if we continue with the crop of leaders like Fashola and Ambode. 1 Like |

Gucciboss: Alright I know your mind frame. One thing you should know is that cost of building any state hospital is lower than cost of maintenance and paying doctors and other staff, same thing goes for all the sectors. That 1 trillion is what we need for the running cost of paying staff, routine maintenance and other sundry. Road maintenance is done here every year before winter. 5 Likes |

Gucciboss: I do not speak at the federal level. Corruption is endemic at that level. 1 trillion Naira is nothing for 24m people because our economy is dependent on things we can only get with DOLLARS. If we don’t want to pay our taxes in LAGOS then it will take around 25yrs to reach any sensible level of development. I have businesses in Lagos and I pay all taxes adequately because I live in a society that thrives on tax payers. 10 Likes |

Gucciboss: You still don’t get it bruv. You can not compare the British infrastructural era to our 1960 independence era. All we had in 1960 were built by the colonial masters and that’s not my point of argument, I was talking about post colonial era starting from 1980. Lagos was totally abandoned and I know this because I worked many years on the island before moving abroad. I don’t live in Nigeria and I don’t know anyone in Alausa and so my posts are not conflict of interests. All I’m saying is last time I visited Nigeria there were about 4 major long roads in my local government with interlocking blocks and 2 more are been constructed as I write. We need to support the government and not try to bring them down at every attempt or small mistake they make. How much property tax do you think 100 duplexes on a street can pay to get good infrastructure. We can do the maths together if you want and I will supply you an estimate on the cost of constructing 1km road. 37 Likes |

XhosaNostra: 100%. You should move here. Swedes try as much as possible to avoid any human social contacts, they prefer to take a walk in the forest, they look at the door hole before going out so they don’t meet any neighbors. Princedapace: You sir have just written the reality on ground. I am still trying to understand why this is so. I think Nigerian men are the root cause of this problem because we’ve made our women so lazy that they want everything to be served for them. Nigerian women abroad don’t expect the guys to pay their bills and so they need to double the hustle. Let your girl know you want to settle down with a lady that has entrepreneurial skills, and loan her 500k and see what she does with it in 6 months. If she can’t turn that money over, I think you should consider a new partner. These Instagram millennials have no skills like hat making, bag making, home decor DIY etc, they always need a man to excite them and make them laugh 24/7 while still enjoying telemundo at the same time. oruma19: Lagos 2018 budget is 1.046trillion Naira. To make any significant progress we need around 2.5 trillion Naira. Your crude oil and Apapa port revenues are not enough. More than 95% of people have not been paying property tax or tenement rate. A serious government is one trying to enforce policies, rules and regulations. |

adidison: Note 0.255% annual property tax will not leave real estate investors in debt, and shouldn’t be used as an excuse to sky rocket rent. All developed countries pay property tax and capital gain tax. All the major roads in Lagos are motorable and that’s where your taxes go to. It’s fine if you don’t want to pay anything, just don’t complain when the roads go bad and nobody is fixing them. Your civic duty is to pay adequate taxes and even if you don’t benefit directly, someone else does. I have a property in Europe and I pay 0.75% every year. |

duni04: I do not belong to any political party and many times I have advocated for a transparent system of governance. I have written several petitions to my local government council on how to operate a transparent system of governance. I strongly support your argument on putting government contracts in public document that we all can access. We need to keep pushing for this as it’s one of the major steps to curb corruption. 2 Likes |

duni04: Development is a process, a step at a time. Past governments have neglected Lagos and the development in Lagos actually started during Bola Tinubu second term, the first term was used to pacify party faithfuls. Ambode is doing a good job and if you are not biased you would see a big difference in the development of Lagos, the emergency service for example. Development will get to you soonest and stop been paranoid and just pay your taxes and have trust in this administration. |

At the end of the day people must pay if they want good infrastructure. 50% and 25% reduction is a good bargain. Nigerians like Awoof too much. The property owners with their exorbitant rents will be the first to convert their Naira to dollar and go on shopping spree abroad buying expensive Balenciaga, Gucci etc with high tax. But to pay tax at home na wahala. 1 Like |

Before you start criticizing the government, find out what’s causing the delay. Lagos has moved beyond haphazard planning because so much lessons have been learnt in the awful masterplan of the city. It’s about getting it righ at once and they need to first deal with the issue of congestion before bringing the shuttle buses on board. |

Fighting corruption is a good thing, but any governments that can not provide at the minimum constant 8000MW of electricity in 4yrs is a failure to me. We voted for leaders who did not fully demonstrate a road map of their vision during campaign. We shall build 100 hospitals is nothing but mere words....tell us when, where and how do you intend to raise the funds. Lambasting past governments is not getting us anywhere. 1 Like |

That’s how Europeans are, it’s in their DNA and they will never change from the rulership mentality of their fore fathers. You see them donating money to Africa like they give a sh$t about us. Denmark is currently trying to pass a law where they will have a facility or colony in North Africa to send their asylum seekers to and even when they are granted asylum they still can’t move to Denmark. Africa needs to wake up and use the social media to name and shame countries dragging us down. One wonders why Denmark is not considering Switzerland or Australia as the dumping ground of asylum seekers. We need to learn how to maximize our resources and eat what we produce and forget about European aids, they think so lowly of Africans and we shouldn’t entrust our lives into their hands. One day I believe Africa will rise. 35 Likes 5 Shares |

shams040: I didn’t get it wrong. My argument rests on asset, maintenance cost and devaluation and not labor. When you go to your bank to invest your money, bankers will categorize different assets and investments for you and you would quickly notice the dividends are not the same because investment bankers have done due diligence and factored in risks and rewards in preparing an index table, and have come to a conclusion no investments should ever be compared pro rata. I have a forex manager handling some of my investments and there are classes of high dividends with high risk, and low dividends with low risk. Uber cars fall in the high risk high reward (HRHR) and that’s why it pays more than treasury bill. Real estate fall below Uber cars in terms of high risk and high reward and juxtaposing them doesn’t make any economical sense. The investment tool and assets determine the model to follow. You should take ECO 101. 3 Likes |

jpworld: Don’t mind him. His argument does not hold water, at the end it borders on same old emotional argument. From the beginning of his dynamic post I knew he wanted to slander Nigerian investors who put 2m down comparing them with $30,000 cars. How many Uber cars are worth the $30,000 you just conjured apart from Uber X. Normal Uber car in the states is Toyota Prius and how much does that cost. Nigerian investors are not rental companies like Avis, if drivers need that kind of rental then let them go to Avis and ask how much to rent a car per week. Americans have credit scores and can walk into the bank to take a loan. Can you walk into any Nigerian banks to take a loan of 2m without collateral? Unfortunately the dynamic of this job with the current set up and economic situation in the country does not make room for investors to take out pension, health care and promotion for the driver, and that’s still not enough for drivers to earn more than the investors. If they need pension, health care and a better chance for educational growth then let them take up a driving job in a company and get 50k monthly and have all the time they need to do other things. I spoke with a company driver in Nigeria and he said he gets around 67k every month, whilst some Uber drivers make twice as much monthly. You can’t compare hotel and transport business, just like you can’t compare cassava and perm kernel business even though they are both from the agricultural sector. When you introduce models that bring accountability to Nigerians, they are quick to jettison it because they want business as usual. Same reason your politicians have passed anti gay law with 14yrs penalty, but are yet to pass 14yrs penalty for any financial crimes in the senate. 3 Likes |

julietromeo: The narrative is everyone should get paid accordingly and it’s not my duty to make sure the driver is able to buy his own car in 2yrs, that’s up to his expenditure and saving culture. 5 Likes |
