Unidentified gunmen on Sunday in Bauchi metropolis, abducted a 10-year-old boy, Mahmud Dahiru, police authorities said. Master Mahmud, son of Garba Dahiru, a former Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, was abducted on Sunday evening in his father’s residence at the Federal Low Cost Housing Unit, Bauchi. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Bauchi State Command, Mohammed Barau, told journalists in Bauchi on Monday that the boy was abducted at about 5.30pm when some unidentified gunmen attacked Mr Dahiru and robbed him of N150,000. He said that the police had mounted check-points to screen vehicles going in and out of Bauchi metropolis, but denied that the abductors have demanded N11 million as ransom from the parents of the child. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5610178-146/gunmen_abduct_10-year-old_boy_in_bauchi.csp |
A woman who visited the home of former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, has died in his mansion in Potomac, Maryland, United States of America. The WILL, an online blog, identified the woman as Ms. Chinwe Mazi. Records obtained by the online agency revealed that the Montegomery County Police Department in Maryland, the U.S. confirmed that Ms. Mazi died last Thursday at about 8.48 p.m. The report said that paramedical and fire service personnel got a distress call from someone who did not identify himself. When they got to the 14900 River Road, Potomac, MD, residence of Orji Kalu, they found Ms. Mazi dead. The late Ms. Mazi, 47, lived in Hyattsville, Maryland, the U.S. and was once married to Mr. Okechukwu Ogbonna. It was learnt that the deceased recently returned to the U.S. after a visit to Nigeria. During her stay in Nigeria, her friends and relations believed she was in good health. A spokesperson of the Montegomery police said: “On Thursday, 19 August, fire rescue personnel responded to a 911 call at 14900 River Road, Potomac, M.D. The call was not made by the female who needed the help. Chinwe Mazi, 47 was pronounced dead at the scene by respondents. The cause of her sudden death is not known. Usually, an autopsy would reveal the cause.” Reacting to the incident, a source close to Orji Kalu told P.M.NEWS this morning that the woman was not Kalu’s mistress but visited his home in company of other guests at about 9 p.m on the fateful day. The source said the woman was eating when she suddenly collapsed and died. He said doctors were called in and after a thorough examination, it was discovered that the woman had suffered from cardiac arrest. According to our source, the police, who investigated the incident, spent about 8 hours in Kalu’s home but did not suspect any foul play and later left. http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/08/24/woman-dies-in-orji-kalu%E2%80%99s-u-s-home/ |
SAMSON SIASIA will be confirmed as Nigeria coach on September 1, just four days before the country host Madagascar in an African Nations Cup qualifier. Dominic Iorfa, who heads the NFF's Technical Committee responsible for hiring coaches, told KickOffNigeria.com that an agreement had been reached in principle with the former international. "Siasia will be officially confirmed on September 1 as the coach of the Super Eagles," Iorfa, himself a former international, told KickOffNigeria.com. "He and I have talked and we have agreed in principle. But there are still some other matters to sort out." Iorfa would not confirm if Siasia would be in charge for the Madagascar game four days later, but says the Technical Committee had to announce a list of players for the game to allow time to get invited players in. http://www.compassnewspaper.com/NG/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66277:siasia-to-be-unveiled-as-eagles-manager-sept1&catid=41:football&Itemid=673 |
English Premier League returnees Newcastle United are reportedly on the verge of lining up a loan bid for Super Eagles forward, Aiyegbeni Yakubu. The 27-year-old Nigerian international is out of favour at current club Everton, and is yet to make an appearance in the new campaign for the Liverpool-based club. The former Portsmouth player was brought to Everton from Middlesbrough in 2007 for £11 million by David Moyes and the Scotsman seems willing to offload him before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month. A move to Newcastle will signal a return to the North East of England for the Nigerian who was a cult hero at Newcastle’s fierce rivals Middlesbrough. But considering Moyes is eager to raise funds for his own transfer plans this summer, it is unlikely he will accept a loan bid. An outright sale remains Moyes’ preferred option but potential buyers have been scared away by the high valuation of the Nigerian. Newcastle are however bidding their time before making a loan offer in their bid to lure Yakubu to St James Park. One club that has been heavily linked with Yakubu this summer has been West Ham United, but David Sullivan, the club’s co-owner, has ended interest in him after Everton rejected their £9 million bid. The Hammers have been tracking Yakubu all summer, but value him at far less than Everton would want before considering a move. Sullivan said the Londoners will now look at signing a younger player, than the 27-year-old striker. “We have cooled on Yakubu. When you have a good, hard look at him, we want younger and quicker and better,” he said. Nsofor in place of Yakubu West Ham are reluctant to increase their bid, though, and could now turn their attention elsewhere with English tabloid The Mirror reported that Yakubu’s compatriot, Obinna Nsofor, could be the London side’s preferred choice. According to the paper, the 23-year-old is due to fly into London for talks with West Ham. Obinna has already been linked with a number of Italian clubs this summer and appears to be surplus to requirements with Coach Rafa Benitez still holding out for a possible move for Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt. Obinna himself has declared he wants to stay put in Italy where he has been based since 2005 and has attracted interest from Lazio and Lecce. The attacker’s further involvement with the Super Eagles over the last two years should be enough to secure the talented youngster a work permit, as a previous attempt to join Everton in 2008 failed on these grounds. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5610191-146/newcastle_target_yakubu___.csp |

Colonization of the mind. This is one of the aftermath of the colonization. Our colonial masters made us to believe that we are black (servants) and they are white (masters). The reason for this is decipherable by a 5 year old kid; we have a preconceived notion that white is good and black is bad (just as you label the woman that appeared to you in your dream, who was dressed in black as a witch and that who was dressed in white as an angel). Human being can never and will never be black (like charcoal) or white (like snow). We need to start the rebranding of our minds (Dont give undue attention to an European while denigrating your African brother). For the purpose of this thread. I will like to come back as an African,a Nigerian and a, but not as a black. |
Happy B'day to our eloquent mod. |

THE Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Ishiaq Olanrewaju Oloyede yesterday handed over to the police, two students of the institution suspected to be experts in admission racketeering in the school. The suspects, apprehended by the university’s security operatives at about 3.30pm are Hussein Salahudeen Ismail, a 400-level student of the Department of Religion with matriculation number 07/15CL019, and Peter Olorunmola, a 300-level student of the Arts and Social Sciences Department, with matriculation number 09250Y113. According to sources, Ismail said to have a facial semblance with the Vice-Chancellor was alleged to have been deceiving unsuspecting candidates for admission, saying that he is a son of the Vice-Chancellor. Said Professor Oloyede: “We are not yet certain if they are truly our students. But we have nevertheless handed them over to the police for more investigations into the matter.” Sources said that the suspects who claimed to have made close to N100, 000 each from their nefarious activities were this time around set up with marked currency notes. “They did not know that their customers this time around were agents. The agents pretended to be in dire need of admission before the commencement of the next academic session. But having collected N5, 000 each from them, they were promptly apprehended by standby security operatives,” said the sources. Ismail and Olorunmola confessed to the crime but pleaded for clemency to enable them complete their academic pursuit. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=20755:two-unilorin-students-nabbed-for-admission-racketeering&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |
Folar2:From where did u heard that 70 was the "official" cut-off mark for Accounting last year? What of ppl who had 56 and are admitted for Accounting that same year? People just like to speculate when it comes to admission matters. Maybe someone scored 64 and applied for Accounting. The moment that person is not admitted, they only thing left is to say they used 70 as d official cut-off mark (or being fooled to believe so by someone who is "helping" him to secure admission). |

The Media In Babangida's Pocket The cream of the Nigerian press travelled to Minna to collect the dicator's bribe and feed the nation with his denial of established truth. Top journalists even presented Babangida with a birthday card, in total disregard for the canon of their profession. It was not a surprise, therefore, that the journalists allowed the former dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, to issue another of his boring denials at the restricted media parley, where they allegedly collected N10 million in “transportation money.” Saharareporters.com reports that the event started at 11 p.m. and ended just after 1 a.m. Among the editors and executives in attendance were Tunde Rahman and Ijeoma Nwogwugwu of ThisDay, Eze Anaba of Vanguard, Felix Abugu and Martins Oloja of the Guardian, Steve Nwosu of the Sun, Arowolo of The Punch, and Sam Omatseye of The Nation. Thisday Newspaper, photography director, Mr. Sumi Smart Cole, was the master of ceremony who present the card in this picture. Several sources told Saharareporters that Ikeddy Isiguzo of Vanguard newspaper in Lagos was responsible for “mobilizing” the media executives and ensuring that they were friendly towards the general. But a source inside Babangida’s disclosed that the former dictator’s spokesman, Kassim Afegbua, afterwards had a tense exchange with Isiguzo whom he accused of allowing some of the media executives to “embarrass the general with tough questions.” http://www.againstbabangida.com/Newsroom-at-AgainstBabangida.com/the-media-in-babangidas-pocket.html

Nollywood is also complicit in the animal abuse saga (though people tends not to care because human rights is not even enforceable). I have watched films where the priest (Babalawo) would try to pull a stunt by pulling off the head of a live chicken. |
