Correcto:You see that's the problem... Like I said before.. People who are not in the medical field many times don't understand what obtains there. In medicine there is clear distinction between clinical practice and pure research line. You can have 5 PhDs... If you don't go for clinical training (Residency), you are not touching a patient. All you'd do is research. Clinical training and practice is what qualifies you to treat patients.. And you teach medical students and doctors the practice (clinical practice, not research).... The Nobel laureate you mentioned is a medical doctor, a paediatrician, but he didn't win the prize for his practice of paediatrics.... He got it for his research in biochemistry and molecular biology which is purely academic and research based. That's a distinction between clinical practice and pure research. Stop mixing everything up... If you need clarifications, ask questions please. PhD is not important to teach medical students and residents.. Haven't you heard something like this.. "medicine is apprenticeship". You are an apprentice when learning medicine. Learning the theory no doubt, but much more than that you are learning the practice. That is you watch and learn like an apprentice would do. Tell me how a PhD will be of use in teaching how to perform a surgery or how to clerk or examine patients or write prescriptions.... How does that even make any sense! In Clinical practice, what matters most is experience and this comes with years of practice.. Not PhD. Ask questions if you need to. Stop arguing what you know nothing about. By the way there's a lot of research in clinical practice. Many clinicians (without PhDs) are seasoned researchers------world renowned ![]() |
Mandeyy:God bless you ooo.... The truth is people not in the medical field don't understand what obtains there. Some do but hatred won't let be rational. Residency programme is way superior to PhD when observed closely. It encompasses clinical practice, teaching practice (Residents teach Medical students and other residents), Administrative work, numerous conferences, seminars and workshops, exams etc... Nigeria has many successful medics, excellent researchers cited in international research journals.. How many of them have PhDs? Few. Why do most of them not have? It's not compulsory.. Period. |
Some people making comments here are just being sentimental. Go online and check what is being done in other parts of the world. What you need to teach medical students is a fellowship (i.e.Residencg training), not PhD. That's the global standard. PhD is useful if you are in the research line... But not for clinical practice. Medical students/Residents are not being trained to be researchers.. They're being trained to be doctors/specialists. There's nothing wrong in having a PhD. A good number of consultants have it... But it's not a requirement to teach in medicine. It's never been. By the way, Residency training beats PhD in any aspect you can think of. Even the research they're talking about sef..... I know the kind of researches residents undertake during their training... They are at par with what obtains in PhD programme. I dare say some are better because they translate directly to improvement in clinical practice and patient care; they find practical application. This can't be said of most PhD researches in Nigeria. For the haters... Whose hatred for doctors is palpable... We know the story of most of you. I won't aggravate your pain. Sorry ehn........ Sale of JAMB form starts December ![]() |
GboyegaD:I believe she's passed the message across fairly, and it's neither difficult to read nor understand. Unless you're insincere. We don't need her to speak Queen's English. Who does that help really? |
solmus:Barrel? Trigger? ![]() None is to be found on an armed drone. There's no trigger to be found anywhere ... It's a drone.....controlled by people very far away from the war zone.. Sometimes up to half way around the world. Armed drones are large machines and won't fit into those boxes... even their payload won't. Stop arguing. |
Nukilia:I agree. A slightly different stab angle and it could have been a totally different story. |

Congratulations to you Ma'am . The sky is the limit. Ibadan College of Medicine has made this feat almost unachievable, with their highly concentrated MB exams and 80% distinction mark. COM UI is still the best in Nigeria though ![]() PS: We write just 4 MB exams here....... |
If I were the next governor of Imo state, dumping the statue into the Niger river would be my first administrative project. In fact, I wouldn't sleep soundly until I saw it done. I consider this statue a national embarrassment. |
