To them, how you are perceived by outsiders is what matters. After all, people on the streets don't see your underclothes. Typical Nigerian mentality . . . image is everything. undecided undecided

thelastPope: I have always come tops in every conference I have attended abroad and I have attended very many. The oyibo guys have never ever dominated me in one. All they know is textbook routines. They are always so specialised, they know little or nothing outside their area of specialization. You cannot compare the average Nigerian doctor that goes through Uniben or UI to their counterparts in any, I repeat, any US university. The Nigerian guys are far more knowledgable, vast and broad. The scope of work they are required to cover is far bigger than that for US doctors.

This is why American patients fly to Nigeria for treatment.

Most medical machines are invented in Nigeria.

And, Nigeria can be proud of her many medical breakthroughs. Thanks to our highly cerebral doctors like you. I am sure you have patented many life-changing discoveries/inventions. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Christianity EtcRe: How Did You Become A Christian Or Muslim? by Olaone1: 3:09pm On Nov 01, 2012
AjanleKoko: Erm . . . babes, you are on your own there o. grin
Anyway, I think the vast majority of religious people are self-righteous hypocrites. So I try not to be religious. But I definitely fear God wink Like I get choice?
No. I would say: all of them.

It is not HUMANLY possible to follow the commandments, trust me. They are hypocrites.

E.g. Is it possible/medically advisable for a 28 year old single lady to be a virgin?

When they prepared the bible, they used to marry girls off at 14 or thereabouts (after 1 or 2 menstrual cycles).

These days, girls dey dem papa house at 30 (after over 200 menstrual cycles). Let them continue to mouth off "thou shall not fornicate."

Hypocrites.
Christianity EtcRe: How Did You Become A Christian Or Muslim? by Olaone1: 2:59pm On Nov 01, 2012
AjanleKoko: Hmm.
I often struggle with that myself. I think to myself, Are we some kind of game the Almighty plays? Setting obstacle courses, providing puzzles that most people cannot figure out in their lifetime?

But well, if you refer to two verses in the Bible:

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

And

Exo 20:5 . . . for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

In my human reasoning, I look at those two verses and tell myself: 'You are so screwed, either which way!'
grin grin

jjman2322: I make N750,000 a month.. However, im not really happy with it..

Im working with my father in a company that makes a profit of over N15,000,000 a month(which father keeps).. so 750k a month is peanuts considering im one of the directors.

However, all expenses are paid for me. I dont pay for food, cars, housing, phone, internet, travel, vacation abroad, etc.

so maybe i should be happy.. i dont know though..Ive just been saving like 500,000 every month so its not so bad. I spend the other 250k eating out/clubbing.

CultureRe: How Often Do You Mix English With Your Native Language While Talking? by Olaone1: 1:21pm On Oct 29, 2012
They are called loan-words and this is normal if you don't want our local languages to die. Code switching/mixing is also normal. A living, dynamic language must accommodate change. A living language embraces new terms, slang from foreign languages. The English are adept at doing this. They welcome it. It makes their language more colouful. Kwashiorkor is a Ghanian word. But, today, it's part of the lexicon of the English language. What about virtuoso, latte, macho, etc? They're borrowed from Italian and Spanish languages. My language, Yoruba, is also not averse to this.

Let's juxtapose this with the language across the English channel - French. They used to (?) have a body that barricade(d) foreign words from their lexicon. They, to their disadvantage, were/are protectionist (read short-sighted).
Thus, the French discovered their clod-hopping policy a little bit too late. The English language had already become Planet Earth universal language.

PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Olaone1: 3:30pm On Oct 22, 2012
Seun: The Islam section was created to protect us from religious wrath. Everyone knows this. If any thread is about Islam, we will move it there. That is all. Yes, I am aware that this implies that Christians are not allowed to start threads about Islam, and if they do, they can expect those threads to be moved to the Islam section where their continued participation will be under the watchful eyes of good religious mods who know what could be deemed offensive.
This is NOT fair to Christians, Seun. undecided

Muslims start threads about Christianity, no?
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Olaone1: 3:14pm On Oct 22, 2012
Seun: That's misleading. I'm not aware of most threads on Nairaland. Moderators are required to suggest topics for the home page from their sections. Mukina2 is required to check every topic suggested by moderators, and give reasons if they don't make the home page. So if your thread doesn't make the home page, it has a lot to do with Jarus.
