Things? Like what? |
I am in the Car Sales Business here in the US. I have shipped a few cars to Lagos and PH. I can help with ideas and prices of cars here. The prices in Nigeria are simply outrageous. But if you have questions, feel free to ask me. |
@Nwoke I think the Palms Mall was fully funded by private property developers. The government cannot manage toll plazas on the road, no body should partner with the Nigerian Government with the building of a mall. We have a problem with the government managing infrastructures in that country. Normally Governments do not fund things like shopping malls(Even here in the US). The government makes a lot of money from Sales Tax, corporate Income Taxes, and VAT ETC. |
@Akolowale Please tell me why i should not believe. Look at the health systems, Accidents rate, Income levels, and quality of life, ETC I think the Low 40" may be a bit optimistic. Give me statistics that show it is higher and i may believe you. Your friend is saving $500 a month, but does not have health/auto insurance, life insurance, workers compensation ETC. I save more than that every month. And if i need to go to get surgery and my bill is $15,000, my deductable is $250 out of my pocket. I will get state of the art health care and my jobs gives my free health care. Now you friend if she had a health issue, all her savings will be gone. What is her standard of Living, Quality of Life? Her savings sounds good but very few in Nigeria make $700 per month. I am still not sure what your argument is? What are you saying? Nigeria is a better place to Live? Well if so, go ahead and live and let me live. Please adjust your math up there. |
Wow!!! Gee! Thanks Constantin, for the Kind words. I think it is simply the way forward. But you know that when we come out here we have to learn to see the world differently. Not everyone in Nigeria has travelled out nor have DSTV. I think we have to respect the local point of view, but at the same time we cannot remain stagnant. Nigeria seems like it is moving backwards instead of forward. |
@Sage There will be no need to compare "Bit by Bit". The man understands right from wrong and good versus bad. I think there is simply no comparison. Life Expectancy in the US is 79.4 Yrs ( US Census Bureau) Life Expectancy in Uganda is 47Yrs (WHO) Life Expectancy in Germany is 71+ Yrs (UN) Life Expectancy in Nigeria is in the Low 40"s (WHO) |
Sade U are right. Zahy Please let the girls comment!!!!! |
Zahy Are u on your period ? |
Quote:"We do not need shiny malls yet" Please do not ban me Mr Nwoke, that has to be the funniest thing i have heard today. We do not need a high speed railway service, we do not need a world class duty free lounge in the National airport or even an amusement park or even a national zoo. We are shifting capital to go and shop in London,New York, Dubai,Zurich, Milan, Johannesburg ETC. Now when will Tejousho or Alaba or Ariaria market have the Italians or the British or the Americans, leave their countries just to come and shop? New York City makes Billions of dollars each year from tourist visiting the city just for shopping. Even with one of the highest sales tax in the US, people come from all over the world just to shop in Manhattan or neighboring New Jersey. People come from all over the world to the Mall of America the biggest mall in the world, in Minnesota. Just to say that they have been. It doubles as a shopping complex and an a tourist site. There is a saying that goes" If you build it, they will come". Nigeria's infrastructure is in an appalling state, and we need something that encourages the public, creates jobs for the people and a tax revenue base for the government. That is simply what malls do. The force foreign investment into the country and create jobs and taxes for the host country. Example is Nando's in Lagos or Wrangler in Shoprite. |
This is an awful topic. Please Ladies (TMI)!!!!!! |
Quote "The Hardest Condition Abroad, is better than the best condition back home". That is all that needs to be said. I think this topic is a wrap. |
Thanks for the pictures.Where can i get more pictures of that mall? Is it call shoprite or The Palms? What stores or Brands are there? The building looks like an overstated Library. I was thinking pictures with glass curtains and brand name stores. I hear they have a wrangler store there. I would like to know more about that mall, IE Prices, traffic, number of stores ETC. Is there a website i can look at? |
I hear Nigeria has a new Mall in Lekki/VI Area. Does anyone have Pictures of The Palms mall. I also agree that these malls impact people positively. You employ Thousands to Build, the retail stores employs thousands and the people in and around the mall are given quality goods and people do not have to travel out of the country to buy things. In other words spend the money you give to British Airways, the money you spend on the London Underground, and on Food, Taxes, Hotel, in the UK or US or Dubai ETC in your own country. Now this also gives Nigerians, Goods and Services of world class standards.Instead of the fake/imitated products we buy in our local markets. |
What is the Unemployment rate in Nigeria. Here in the USA we are @ 4.7% currently, which is considered "Full Employment". I am guessing, i think more than 55% of Nigerians are Unemployed and more than 60% are Underemployed. What the government needs to do, is move away from an Oil Based economy and invest heavily in other sectors that can create jobs. If Nigeria has basic infrastructures, people and businesses will more likely be willing to take a risk in the Country. Give people a chance to compete and they usually can figure things out themselves. |
@ Doshbass In America we have to drive everywhere.I do average of 500 miles a week for work, and that adds up to a lot of money. In the UK you guys barely have cars and are more dependent on Public Transportation. It is like the government makes it hard for one to own a car in the UK. So as a percentage of my income, i am suffering more than you are. I was recently in London and i was amazed at how everyone does not even care to own a car. In the US a car is a necessity. And sometimes you need more than one car for different reasons. You need a pick-up truck to haul stuff and a minivan for the wife and in the summer you might be thinking of a small convertible. But in the UK the UNDERGROUND, is reliable and is a fixed price. |
I said Hong Kong and Oslo is more expensive. I am in the USA. I was giving my own experience from this morning. |
Drugs from London to Nigeria? Nah! I do not think so. I would not carry anything for someone if i were going from Nigeria to London or the US or anywhere period. Except i know them well and i check everything personally. But people carry things for people all the time from the west back home. No one will be that dumb to take drugs from London(Where it is in demand) to Nigeria(Where drugs are in abundance). |
I know Hong-Kong and Oslo are Higher than the UK. I bought $2.99 for a gallon of Regular Unleaded. I need Premium for my Car, but i just buy Unleaded these days and add some gas additive i bought at Pep Boys. I filled up today for nearly $87. I drive an SUV for work and these prices are killing me. |
Dafman What is the price in Nigeria today? |
Huh? ![]() |
There are door- door delivery services in the UK that are much cheaper than $800 for an 80LB Suitcase. Or find someone coming to Nigeria and pay them $180 for excess baggage and then pick up the suitcase at the airport in Lagos. |
This is my final destination. I have been situated and will not be travelling out to anywhere else. Will visit places, but love my present country. |
Are we talking Gasoline as in Petrol? Or Gas for Cooking? |
Sold in Litres you mean, and it is called Petrol. I would like know the price myself. |
Exactly @ what cost. How does it affect the Okada man on the street? |
If wearing Jeans a nice shirt and my Nike trainers is boyish, then i guess you can call me a Boy. Not interested in Suits. The best i can do is a sports jacket with Jeans. No three piece, nothing too corporate. If it fits, and is comfortable, then count me in. |
@Whitelexi I am sorry for the questions i asked. I hope you get all the assistance you need. Good Luck! |
Do not hold your breath Glamrocka. Improvements in Nigeria will have to come at a price higher than $4.5BN. It will take more than money to get things in Nigeria to become "Stable". We need Divine Intervention. I pray that God gives our current and Ex-Leaders Heart Failures or maybe Terminal Cancer. It is a shame, but we need new people and new faces that have the people's interest close to their hearts, and people that can move this country forward. @Anybody Does anyone know the Exchange rate of $ - Naira? or GBP - Naira or Euro-Naira. Today or Tomorrow's rate please. Black Market rates are preferred. |
@Whitelexi Who is eligible, and on their website, can you point out which one it is.Do u know the requirements ETC? |
LowerBwoy I am done too. @Kimba You and Greatpeter just like hearing yourselves talk i presume. Please if you have a Birth Certificate of these Stars, post it or else stop the Rumor/Hear Say. It makes you all look bad. Stop the Long Tales. I watched Nas and his dad on MTV, his father is a musician from Southern USA. He went to some African Countries to play Music and Lived there for a while. But i do not think Nas, or his Dad have ever been to Nigeria, Let alone be from there. Please stop the tall tales. |
@Akolowale You are in Nigeria right? Do u know the answer to my questions? Can u help me with current exchange rates? |
