Yes, I would gladly do.
Good for you.
I don't want, and I hope it won't come to that.
I've stood up to police and military officers when I perceived wrong, all because it's democracy, I won't try such in a military regime

Partial list of Abacha's victims

1.
Rear Admiral Babatunde Elegbede, killed June 19, 1994.

The writer and environmental/Ogoni rights activist was Judicially murdered (that was what John Major, then UK PM called it) via execution by hanging, on trumped up charges of murder.

He was 54.

3.
Admiral Emanuel Olu Omotehinwa, May 22, 1996 shot in his home in Ikoyi Lagos.

His son witnessed his killing by 3 men who came into the house.

He was in his Mid 50s.

His close relations with an exiled ex-army officer in NADECO, was speculated as reason for his being targeted.

4.
Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, senior wife of Chief M.K.O Abiola.

Assassinated in broad daylight at Motorways Junction, 7Up Ikeja, Lagos, 4th of June 1996.

She had only just left home in Ikeja about 30 minutes earlier, on her way to keep an appointment on Victoria Island.

She was 45.

5.
Chief (Mrs) Bisoye Tejuoso; Iyalode Egba and mother of the reigning Osile Oke Ona, Oba Dapo Tejuoso, was murdered, 19th September, 1996.

She probably voiced her thoughts a little to loudly.

8.
General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Enugu prison, December 8, 1997.

He was serving a life sentence for the 1995 ‘phantom’ coup.

Poisoned to death by injection allegedly administered by “Dr Death”, a colonel in Abacha’s death squad.

9.
Dr. Sola Omatsola, December 13, 1997.

He was the head of security at Murtala Muhammad International Airport.

A bomb planted for a senior member of government did him in.

He was in his 40s.

10.
Tunde Oladepo, senior correspondent & bureau chief of The Guardian in Ogun State, February 26, 1998.

Shot dead in the presence of his family in their home in Abeokuta.

He had written a story criticizing traditional rulers for endorsing Abacha for president.

And many others.

They should keep shutting down markets and businesses. Soon businesses will be afraid to make investments. What happened to partnering with the market to keep the environment clean.

What happened to supervising a once in a week total sanitation where one person from every shop must show up or risk heavy fines

Let them continue driving away businesses
Hmmmmm, slam with heavy fine for not showing up
Why should govt be on ground to monitor people to do the right thing?
There is a taskforce responsible for each market, they should ensure business owners clean their premises, it's not for govt to appoint supervisor.

Politics / Re: Bayelsa Guber Polls: INEC Releases Amended Candidates Lists, Removes APC’s Sylva by OlujobaSamuel: 9:37am On Oct 25, 2023
fergie001:

This is the case;

1. Sylva finished a distant 2nd in the Bayelsa Guber Primary to GEJ in 2007.

2. GEJ was nominated VP, Sylva snatched the Primary and went ahead to win in 2007.

3. The Appeal Court sacked Sylva alongside 4 other Govs (Adamawa, Cross-River, Kogi & Sokoto) in 2008, declaring a re-run.

4. The re-run took place in 2008 and all 5 Govs won and took another oath of allegiance.

5. INEC announced in 2010 that Governorship Elections for all 36 States will hold on April 15, 2011.

6. Sylva then having some friction with GEJ fought hard to win the Primary for a second term in Jan 2011. Many said when he came in as Gov in 2007, he claimed he met a State with no Govt, many debts and no development. He was one of the closest Govs to Yar'Adua.

7. With the doctrine of necessity and GEJ been in-charge temporarily, Sylva filed a suit through his lawyer, Femi Falana, asking the Court that his tenure started from 2008 when he took his second oath of allegiance, precisely May 25, 2008.

8. On Feb 23, 2011 the FHC agreed with him that his tenure will expire in 2012 and not in 2011.

9. INEC appealed, and the Court of Appeal in April 2011 agreed with the Federal High Court that the tenure should expire in 2012.

10. INEC thereafter shifted the Governorship Elections for these 5 States to 2012.

11. With Jonathan fully in-charge after YarAdua's death, another Primary was conducted. Sylva participated and was screened out, he went to Court saying that of January should suffice, that he was still the valid Candidate.

12. PDP argued that the January Primary was for the election slated for April 2011, with that date shifted, another Primary had to be conducted for the new date in 2012. Dickson was declared winner of the Primary.

13. INEC set the new date for elections in these five States for Feb 11 or 12, 2012 (can't remember).

14. Buba Marwa of the then CPC who lost to Nyako (the Adamawa Gov) with a leave of Court approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Appeal Court decision in April 2011, i.e to challenge the Appeal Courts decision in No 9 above.

15. Supreme Court set 27th January 2012, for judgement on the Marwa suit filed in 14 above.

16. In December 2011, the Supreme Court ruled that Sylva participated in the new Primary and was screened out, that it was the internal affairs of a domestic Party, hence the Apex Court affirmed Dickson as the PDP Candidate.

17. In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court sitting in 7 and judgement read by Onnoghen... The Apex Court held that the tenure of a Governor or President is like the Walls of Gibraltar that can never be moved. That the election should have been conducted in 2011.

That even though there was a second oath of allegiance, it didn't invalidate the decisions they all made from 2007-2008, hence their tenures began to count from 2007.

It is settled law that the time fixed by the constitution for the doing of anything cannot be extended. It is immutable, fixed like the rock of Gibraltar. It cannot be extended, elongated, expanded, or stretched beyond what it states. To calculate the tenure of office of the governors from the date of their second Oaths of Allegiance and of Office while ignoring the period from 29th May, 2007, when they took the first oaths is to extend the four years tenure constitutionally granted the governors to occupy and act in that office which would be unconstitutional. It is therefore clear and I hereby hold that the second Oaths of Allegiance and of Office taken in 2008, though necessary to enable them continue to function in that office, were clearly superfluous in the determination of the four years tenure under Section 180(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

18. Dickson was declared winner in 2012.

19. Sylva went back to the Court in 2012, that since the Supreme Court said May 29, 2011 was the date their tenures should have expired, that as at May, he was the Candidate since the PDP had not conducted the Fresh Primary. Hence, he should be declared Governor since votes belong to the Party.

20. Sylva lost at the Federal High Court, Appeal Court, lost and was fined by the Supreme Court in 2013.

That is it!

God help us with our law, the court should endeavor to consider the future effect of their actions so it doesn't disenfranchised people at the long run.
If the person is a popular candidate of an opposition, it's likely going to cause issues as supporters are likely to see it as muscling out the person

How come he was stopped because he was sworn in twice?
Was he impeached?

Lol, the vehicle is not the issue for me in this report, nor the cost, but the defence that the vehicle supplier could add 25% margin to the open market cost of the vehicle, I thought a bulk purchase would attract a discount which will make the buyer (NASS) pay lesser than the open market value

maticar:

Surely there will be, perhaps engine knock or something
Your engine won't knock, it's not water and will easily blend well with pms.
The side effect is that it will make your fuel evaporate faster than pure pms, thus, making you have to refill faster than normal.
Pms is having higher density (thicker) than ethanol, so evaporation takes place slowly compared to ethanol

john650:
Why must they close the entire bridge for six months when it would take the contractors three months to import the materials needed? Why can't they wait until the materials are available and ready before closing off parts of the bridge?

Secondly, why can't they close-off one or two lanes on each side, assuming there are three lanes on each side so that some traffic can be maintained while the work is being done and commuters are not severely inconvenienced? This is how it is done in most countries. You don't close off an entire bridge because you want to resurface it. Nonsense.
Be calming down. Read the report and understand.
The importation of relevant material will take 3months, that's why it's starting next year Jan instead of this month.
The project duration is 6months in total, split into 3months for each sides.
All these information I mentioned is stated in the report if you read it well

Arguably Nigeria's most famous bridge.
I have only used it on four occasions and each times, when on top of the vast lagoon beneath, I marvelled at the mighty power of God.
The Babangida regime and Julius Berger who built the bridge really tried. An engineering marvel.

By the way, can someone educate me on what are those brown looking floating things scattered on some parts of the lagoon as seen from the bridge? Are they fish traps or something?
Also, I remember seeing some spots on the lagoon full of weeds/grasses or somehow looking like tiny islands.
It's a raft made by locals living by the lagoon, I learnt they use it for planting vegetables and also trade on it.

An old English word not in contemporary day-to-day communication is used in a book for children less than 10yrs, when we know such word is now having a new societal meaning, yet some are trying to pretend that it's not what we think, as though, they would have a different thought if heard randomly on the street
