You are on point, except for the one below:

"Then all banks must stop the practice of opening domiciliary accounts for Nigerians in Nigeria. They can sell debit cards in naira and charge the prevailing exchange rate for international transactions like e-commerce. This used to be the practice. I wonder who stopped it."

Some people do business abroad and receive inflows in USD. For instance, IMers pay for advertising services in USD and receive their earnings in USD into their domiciliary accounts. For this the inflow is often much more than the outflow which also helps the economy. I'd say as long as you receive your inflows directly from abroad you should be allowed to operate a domiciliary account. The only worry is with those that source for dollars locally for the sake of hoarding them and making illicit gains at the expense of the Naira.
I've also thought about this. To address such, the inflow to such account should be only through electronic means, and there should be no cash outflow but electronic outflow of the funds.
Alternatively, to avoid hoarding of such fund for speculatory reasons, the dom account can just be a transit account, so no one keeps fund in the account, the funds dropped in such account are remitted to the individual or company local account at prevailing FX rate, and if you need fund, it is sent through same way

Well, EFCC can't stop people from trading in whatever form of money they use.

After all, at the end of the day, with the falling value of the naira, people are going to store their money in whatever has value..and it is the dollar. Or euro or pound.
This statement of yours is false.
Demanding for another country currency within the country as a means of exchange of value is illegal in any sovereign nation.
The CBN is the only issuer of legal tender, and our legal tender is the naira and Kobo.

Have u all noticed that after a kidnapper, armed robber or any criminal is killed, u don't hear at all of members of their family crying and asking for their corpses from the security agencies for burial or challenging the security agencies for not taking them to court to be sentenced or even surprised they were kidnappers? Its as if they have no family at all.its cos They are all beneficiaries of crime and left 2 me, should be imprisoned. All Criminals have Families, who in turn, know what they do, so if crime has to be tamed, it starts and end in the family system. Evans, e- money kidnapper, who was once a policeman, had mansions everywhere, which were seized. If they weren't discovered after their Waterloo, their families would continue to be using and enjoying those properties. Idiots. Death to kidnappers, robbers and all the beneficiaries of crime
You can't claim the corpse of anyone killed by the state for a criminal act, except it can be proven that he is actually innocent

And may God bless you too.

The joy is that our policy makers are here to read and feel our pulse.

In China, once anyone brings luxury items, they are taxed at the airport. They remove the labels before entering their country. If anyone carries his party outside Nigeria, use tax to collect government share once they arrive at the airport. Find a name to call the tax.

As for entertainment, going outside the country on tour is not a bad idea. Nigerian artists can use the audience to bring such shows to Nigeria. Why can't we have month-long music festival in Nigeria like is done in Europe? You'd be shocked that people from Brazil, Cuba, Europe and Caribbean would pay to come. The way these people worship some of our music stars, many of us no send them like that. Many of them are in search of an identity and with the way Nigerians party, they'd have the experience of their lives and keep coming.

I really wish the minister of arts, culture and creative economy understands this.
You are right.
On the entertainment industry, I don't have issues with going on tour, I know it's to project the Nigerian culture, but what I have issues with is making Nigerians back home here the target audience instead of those in the country they want to have the tour

Why do we even trade dollars in the streets like we trade beans?

Foreign exchange is a security document and the flow must be controlled to avoid it being used to launder money.

In Nigeria, the poor spends naira and rich men spend dollars. Politicians mostly spend dollars. By the dollars going high, it affects all of us because we are an import-based nation.

How do we stem the tide?

Every importer who wants to import should approach the banks who'd give them letters of credit, collect naira and pay the seller in forex through their correspondent bank. The practice of putting dollars in the hands of people who claim to want to import must stop.

If anyone is travelling, he must approach a bank to get BTA and he must be receipted. At the airport, he must present the receipt to customs and evidence of the cash. If he doesn't have the cash, he must be arrested, tried and jailed. Wicked people use travellers to buy BTA at government rates and resell to the black market. If this practice is not functional, give them pre-loaded debit cards by going into partnership with companies like Travelex and Transferwise or Revolut or Remitly and pay them directly so that beneficiaries can collect their cash when they get to the countries of destination.

Also the practice of CBN chiefs selling dollars directly to Nigerians to resell at exorbitant rates must stop. If you are within Nigeria, you have no business handling dollars.

Then all banks must stop the practice of opening domiciliary accounts for Nigerians in Nigeria. They can sell debit cards in naira and charge the prevailing exchange rate for international transactions like e-commerce. This used to be the practice. I wonder who stopped it.

Then the government must look into the mining sector from exploration to extraction, refining and export of minerals like lithium, gold, tin, steel, coal, phosphate and gas. The Chinese must be prevented from mining practices of our minerals and Rosewood trees. Minerals are security assets and must be protected the way we protect our private parts. Foreigners must not be allowed in for now, especially with the way oil exploration has failed our people when handled by foreign companies. You can employ foreigners to train your own people but do not allow them bring their expertise and funds to extract a security asset. They'd never use it to your advantage.

I support the hike in dollar rate. I also applaud the scarcity of dollars. It should be scarce. Only government should have it and those who absolutely need it for business outside the country. If you are within the country, USE NAIRA.
God bless you, to add to it, no business entity trading in Nigeria, selling to the public should quote price of commodity in any other currency, except Naira.
If you are hosting an event outside Nigeria as a Nigerian, you can use Nigeria as a target market, this is specifically to target the entertainment industry, I wonder why thousands of people will go outside Nigeria to go and watch a show hosted by a Nigerian living in Nigeria

I don't think there is anything wrong with attending his or her wedding.
I attended my ex wedding as she was a friend before anything relationship, so when relationship ended, friendship remains.
She celebrates with me on my days of celebration, I do same for her.
I currently talk to her mum and siblings more than I even communicate with her. We don't do chit chat, just happy New Year, happy birthday, congrats on your baby, etc, and we have been good with it.
On the gift, I won't suggest you get any gift, your presence alone is enough gift, a gift might cause issues as they might still be seeing it as couples which might cause issues at a time of misunderstanding.

Exactly. None of them is telling us how, they are just throwing blanket statement.
I've lost phones so many times, and I've never lost any fund in my account, I don't even block the sim, I just go retrieve the sim that same day or the next.
To finalize any transaction with USSD, you need a pin, to reset the pin if you forget it, you need ATM card details and pin or some personal details.
The only thing I know some banks permits through ussd without pin is self recharge.
Also, if sending funds to an existing beneficiary, some bank apps won't ask for pin, but you need the app password to even open it, and if it support biometric login, you need phone pin or password to add your biometric

Politics / Re: Whose Responsibility Is It To Replace Broken-Down Electricity Transformers? by OlujobaSamuel: 7:11am On Jan 16
nairalanda1:
Ideally, it is the job of the local DISCO, not the job of PHCN. PHCN does not exist. Discos and gencos and TCN have replaced it.

But as to why consumers contribute...this one is easy.

Nigerians are not paying cost reflective tarrifs for electricity. Additionally, over 30% of us do not pay for the power we use.(If you think I am lying...google for the PwC report Solving the Liquidity crunch in the power sector).

As a result, your local DISCO is owing money, and at least 3 of them have been taken over by the banks. Up till today...many of our DISCOS have not broken even. THREE of them, and I mean three of them, have been taken over by their creditors, one has been taken over defacto by the government.

Why...because Nigerians do not want to pay their power bills at market price. We think we must have power for free.

Meanwhile, GSM companies, if the antenna spoil, dem go replace am. Your local provision store owner, if he runs out of milk today, he will replace it within a few hours, if not tomorrow latest....because they are allowed to do something the power sector is not allowed to do. Sell at market price.

This is the result of not letting DISCO set prices.....you will be asked to contribute for your generator.

I went to a private school for primary school, and then for secondary school, na government school I go. My school fees in the primary school were at one point three times what I eventually was paying in the government secondary school I went to....yet in the primary school, in over 6 years of being there it was two times I bought exercise book for myself...the second time, because the supplier was late, and I was advised to buy a book...anyway, normal service was resumed in a few days.

When I entered secondary school, I was paying cheap school fees. Guess what......in my six years there I was buying all my exercise books and stationeries and textbooks while there. Something that in my private primary school..they were issuing us textbook.

Let us all pay a cost reflective tarrif.......and you will see your disco provide you with high quality transformer that would last 300 years. Not this one where we pretend power is cheap, and where in some areas half the population thinks it is free of charge. Ok o.
There is nothing like cost reflective tarrif if my consumption is on estimate. They should start from letting us have choice of getting our metres in open market just like our phones, they can even determine products that are compatible, marketers should source for it and sell.
My community is not having transformer since Oct, they were still sending bills, I sent a mail to them to put a stop to it, no response. I've always been sending mails to the email and do get response, but they have refused to give a response to this

Do consumers have the money to aquire a transformer? Abi you think say Dem dey sell transformer for market? It's PHCN of course.

Just go to their office and request for a new one and they'll put you on queue alongside others who had made request and during distribution time they'll supply to the areas that applied for it at once.

They sell transformer in open market bro, and people have been buying it since ages.
Individuals wey get hotel or factory sef dey buy am and will call the disco guys to come install it.
If you need transformer (fairly used or new), go to Alaba international market or Alaba Trade fair, you go see enough, any size wey you need

What exactly are banks head offices doing in Lagos? Isn't Abuja the capital of Nigeria.

When you have your own banking biz, site it in Borno.
All departments listed for transfer are monitoring/supervisory dept, not the policy dept.
The movement will definitely reduce cost as CBN is having an underutilized office in Lagos, for every time the CBN officials leave fct to check any bank out of state, they get estacode, logistics and other payments
