Politics / Re: Fashola Shuts Aswani Market by oluwdashmi(f): 9:55am On Jan 28, 2009
Pls please shut your piehole and get your head outta your arse angry What is unreasonable about having an ounce of compassion for people trying to make ends meet undecided
Do you think people that trade on the street in the burning sun wish to do so?

Do you think they would not like to trade in the comfort of their own shops, secure in the knowledge that their wares are safe?

Do you think those that send children as young as 5 to hawk oranges, not worth more than N100, are happy their children are subject to the danger that comes with weaving in and out of traffic? undecided

Do you even realise that some of this traders do not even a month's rent to provide, talkless of the two/three years they usually have to pay upfront?

Has it occured to you that a month's rent might even be more than what some people have to sell?

There are street market all over Europe and US for traders who cannot afford to rent shops, so why the noise? undecided

What is wrong if he subsidises the shops to them at an affordable rate?

What is wrong with providing soft loans and grants help people who wanna start up their businesses, instead of everyone hankering to work in banks and oil companies undecided

Small time now they would be the same ones complaining that girls are doing Ashewo, whilst the guys are doing yahoo yahoo and committing armed-robberies, yet are ready to condemn those who are only trying to make a decent living with the little they have sad

Kudos to Fasola if he is serious about finishing what he started, but that does not excuse the fact that he is immoral and wicked and heartless. How does he sleep at night angry

@busy body

You to want to make ends meet, so go to the road side and trade!!

Either they are happy or not, they are trading there so that pple can see their goods faster than pple in the stores. But if your clothe touches their ware, they will abuse you or lock you up. These women pay touts 3 times daily 4 staying on the illegal roads but can't use that money to stay in the legal places. I have seen them paying and have heard from a woman before.

Pple who send their children to hawk on the road are not happy about it but they are tackling their probs in a more dangerous way cos they are ignorant of how to tackle it.

Even those who work in companies can't afford to pay their rent but does that warrant leaving the market empty and going to the roadside to trade?

You said Fashola should provide loans, are there no microfinance banks who do that? Or you want Fashola Microfinance bank so that you will say he is trying to make money out of the poor again?

Even in the midst of plenty, Ashewo and yahoo guys will always do what they like cos they feel they don't have to put much effort before they get what they want. In countries where everything is ok, do you know that that is where prostitution/drug abuse and all that are common most?

Are you justifying prostitution for lack of funds? Can you opt for it or advise someone to do it if she can't make ends meet?

Yes, Kudos to him cos he will finish what he has started. Thank God for you Mrs moral, kindhearted, heartful, who leaves the path to walk through the wilderness. He sleeps with your heart.

No sir, we support him cos we want Lagos to progress from dirty, unorganized city to a clean and well-organized one.

Which trades and jobs  Stalls mounted on the highway  How unreasonable can u possibly be  tongue

Lets have ur better plan for Lagos, who knows, Fashola may go for itundecided

Oga rancetech, answer farotika's question now.

@rancetech
I can see how you feel 4 pple who left the market empty only to trade on the highway and the same pple like you will say Lagos is dirty and full of traffic Fashola may welcome your opinion. Let me give you a clue, every 100 days, he holds meeting with pple who have been assigned to look at the probs of the grassroot, Look out for the next 100 days and join them at the meeting to give your suggestions cos your idea is a waste on NL.

If every competitive product/services have to struggle for customers in the same manner, then, I think banks and other production companies should by now leave their offices for the road sides to trade their services against their competitors.

I can remember when the oshodi traders were still there, when drivers will load passengers, collect fares at the same point, stand still for 30mins begging traders to move their goods, which they will refuse to do or do after they have attended to their customers with a condition that their goods must not be touched by the bus and the driver leaves the point only to go and join the traffic ahead. Aba angry you guys are ungrateful
Politics / Re: Fashola Shuts Aswani Market by oluwdashmi(f): 10:54am On Jan 26, 2009
My guys, God bless you 10 times for your statements. Should such things have existed in the first place? As for alternatives hasn't the Lagos trade fair has been in existence for years of which we all know can accommodate these bogus Oshodi traders but to generate 100% profit they decided to establish themselves on public roads and walkways.

See how long they been asking car sellers at Berger along Tin can to move to the trade air (approx 7 years ago) and they've persisted despite parking on the expressway and overhead bridge which is already causing structural damage.

As for the idiots gearing towards tribalism ----- Haba na today!!! They see red and call it blue to justify their lawless nature ---- Pls look for another excuse as Lagos indigenes were amongst the worst hit.

Someone mentioned Lagos Island Markets as well earlier in the forum!! Again na today!! Wasn't Balogun Market cleared------abi Balogun dey Badagry for your eye!!  Angry

Finally someone is doing something after years of mismanagement and lack of planning yet people complain.

As for those asking the government to make alternatives before clearing these so called illegal traders I ask you

1. Were these so called Oshodi traders born by the Market in the first place or didn’t they relocated there for illegal trading purposes ?

2. Are Lagos illegal markets the only place in Nigeria where people can trade successful and yield good profits. Abi other metropolitans or states no dey naija again?

Despite the large populace living in cities like New York, London, Barcelonia, Johannesburg & even Accra you still don't find market-places as lawless or unplanned as Oshodi; If the available legal Oshodi shops cannot accomodate all traders then it's for the traders to find other legal suitable locations for trade not establish themselves on the road.

Faithful Govenor abeg carry go !!, I'm based in England but will endeavor to come home and vote for you during the next elections. Finally a bit of sanity in dear Lasgidis. smiley

if indeed our governor wants to turn Lagos into a mega city, then he should
start with the epileptic power supply.

imagine a scenario where a young welder whose welding machine depends
solely on electricity supply closes down his shop due to epileptic power supply and
venture into bend down select business in Aswani market and fashola now came to seal up the place

sealing up market places should be the last on his agenda.

@emilyone
If a welder/or any other person resigns to another work, should he/she trade on the main road? They all have been forewarned infact, I heard over the radio recently that they should move into the market and leave the road sides. DEFINE a ROAD from a MARKET for goodness sake!!

You need an appointment in his office to teach him this. If he starts from power, you will be the first to say traffic holds you on your way to work everyday, some pple will say he should start from accommodation, some from food as he is their father and mother while some will say he should start from water, WHAT IS YOUR PROB SELF?

Lets start somewhere and stop sitting at the front of computers to say this is where he should start from.

What Jobless? Were they supposed to be there in the first place??

What is wrong with people? I mean if they do. . . you complain. If they don't do, you complain.  angry angry

If you have a perfect plan, please let's hear it ooooh. . . internet experts.

Besides they are moving them to where there are supposed to be. . . the real market not on the freaking roadside.
@ Sisi Jinx
Don't mind them, they want to eat their cake and have it. Later, they will be the one to post pix of dirty roads of Lagos. Now that someone is trying to fix it for them so that they can post cute pix, they will still talk.

i was speaking to a girl whose dad is a director in the Lagos state government and she said the governor said he is trying to rid the state of non-indigenes.

this got me so incensed.

now i cant for sure confirm the comments from the girl but  if he really made that statement then he has lost the plot and undone every good deed he may have done.

its all well and good shutting aswani and ridding oshodi of traders but how about the people who only sourse of income is selling 'bend down select', 'bread and akara' etc?

i hope he''s building or setting up a site for these people.

@ Omo Ibo

Computers / Re: How Can We Make A Cybercafe Gain More Money by oluwdashmi(f): 2:39pm On Jan 22, 2009
Hi,

I hope this reply is not too late. However, I think you'll still need it in order to improve the profit margins of the cafe.

First of all, I'll need answers to the following questions to enable me help you better;

1. How many functional PCs are there in the cafe?
2. What bandwidth is he using?
3. How reliable is their ISP?

While waiting for those answers from you, this is what he needs to do immediately. Choose anyone in any order below;

1. Create a "Pick & Win" Bonanza where each person that buys at least a 1hour ticket dips his/her hand into a basket to win a price. The price(s) should be more airtime (i.e. 30mins, 1hr & 3hrs tickets). Put in about 20 free tickets (3hr(4), 1hr (6), 30mins (10). The aim here is to have as many as 20 people win free tickets every day. Make sure you have up to 200 'Please Try Again' tickets in the basket. Exactly 1week to the bonanza date, start advertising within your cafe to walk-in customers that you are going to be giving out 20 free tickets everyday from a certain date(which will be your take off date) and you must give a reason for doing this which in this case will be for the Xmas celebrations (you can still use it as a New Year's gift). Don't give the details until 1day before the main day. This will create anxiety and buzz as in each customer will tell at least 2 or 3 friends.

Don't bother about the first day, you may not make much because people will be there just to see if its for real (you know us 9ja's now) but once they see people winning and most importantly, those that win will certainly tell their friends and you'll begin to notice a steady increase in sales from Mid-day of day 2.

Run this bonanza for 14days or 21days maximum.

Sorry I can't give you actual step-by-step details in this post but I hope you get the message. Now let's move on to the next idea,

2. Offer a never before seen ticket with huge amount of time for a premium fee and make that look exclusive. What I mean is this,  Have a ticket containing up to 48hours or more worth of airtime with 21days or at most 30days validity. Then put the price at N1,200 (that's like N31 per hour). Make this ticket available only between your slow hours. In my case I made it available b/w 8am - 9am only.

Now before you ask any question, let me clear something.

This ticket will be useable at any other time of the day but the customer has to buy it b/w that time frame and at least login to activate it. The reason for that is that it allows the customer to come to your cafe early and if he has to login, then he'll at least spend some of the airtime before leaving. Also it stops customers from just buying the time and leaving or worse still asking staff to buy the time and keep for them. (These are from my experiences in trying out this system.) Also I can't give entire details in this post that is why I've summarised it so you can understand.

This tactic alone made me an average of N12,000 daily b/w the hours of 8am - 9am for 2 weeks. I'm not adding what was made throughout the rest of the day.

Let me leave you with these two for now. I hope you can make good use of it.

Remember,  if you don't try it, you'll never know if it'll work in your situation. You don't have anything to loose.

I hope this helps you and any other person who'd like to implement this in his/her cafe.

I've been trying to put together an extensive manual to help fellow cafe owners improve on their cybercafe business.

The most common problems I hear about is Power, Power, Power and then that of ISPs and I totally agree that these are very serious issues but should we continue to complain and make excuses? or should we rather find solutions to the teething problems? you tell me.

I know there are lots and lots of ways to work around these and many other problems and thus make the cybercafe business what we expect it to be.

I can only share what people are interested in. So if you feel this information is useful or will be useful to you or anyone you know, then leave a comment below.

Please Note: When I talked about a manual, I don't want you to think this is a ploy to put up those N5,000 - N9,000 re-hashed reports (copied from other people's info). I'm talking about real life experiences of strategies you can put to good use right away to improve you cybercafe earnings for a premium price of free,  YES, you read that right. It'll be 100% free and the information you'll receive will blow you away.

Was this helpful? then let other cybercafe owners know about it.

Maximum Success To You & Yours in 2G9.

If someone leaves you, you're are hurt and you hate the person at that moment but most normal humans won't wish death on that person i.e  no matter how bad a person hurts you, you still want them alive and kicking.

If you lose the person to death, there are so many "would have beens" there. He might have died still actively loving you and that would hurt a whole lot more.  sad

True talk!!

Although Nigerians like fabricating rumours at every new development which may be an hinderance to progress, notwithstanding, things are happening and we should just commit our ways onto the Lord. I will use it if taking a bike is necessary but will plead the blood of Jesus in it.

Like someone called me on Friday that I shouldn't use the helmet cos someone disappeared at Allen and the okada man has been taken to Area 'F'. Well, I didn't believe the story cos if it was true such would have a made a cool selling headline (since they said the guy was arrested!) but apart from disappearing, pple can take advantage of the helmet for other things we can't even imagine.

Politics / Re: Pictures Of Oshodi Market Demolition by oluwdashmi(f): 10:30am On Jan 07, 2009
I was at oshodi yesterday and anyone that gets there will never believe his/her eyes. The whole place has changed and traders who said they do not have a place to sell have seen the place where they would have gone gently before the govt disturbed their sales. Traders in the alocated spaces within the market were not touched and are still selling.

Before now, when a vehicle is filled with commuters, the drivers will have to beg the traders before they can drive out but now, the entire place is as free as you can ever imagine and the waste management workers are clearing the dirts.

Without the demotion, there is no way a new space will be created because there is no breathing space in Oshodi but with this demotion, the govt can now decide to create a space for them. Even oshodi drivers have now learnt to park well and you don't need to hide your bags in your pants anymore cheesy.

One thing we should know is that we can't eat our cakes and have it. Afterall, nairalanders are good at posting pix of dirty parts of Lagos and now that they want to make it clear for you, some are still complaining. So, for a change to come, some people must be affected. Afterall, na you want a better Lagos and Nigeria that you can be proud of. smiley

I don't see much good things in the list.

Even Dora that I have always been proud of, accepted an offer that shouldn't have been hers. I know she has a lot of abilities (she is a complete woman-man) but it would have been better to have her in the education or health sector where she will flush out all the cancaworms that have eaten the green leaves of the nation to the stem. The conduct of these tanker drivers and their demands is very unreasonable! Why would they imagine that they will be treated differentlt because they carry fuel from depot to station? It is madness! We must create an alternative to them.Imagine one of their leaders saying that since BRT buses have dedicated lanes, they should get some priority too. I can't even seem to figure out what their demands are. How does their going on strike and making everyone miserable solve our road problems?

That's true, there should be an alternative to these people. They are too fool of themselves, afterall they get paid for the work done like every other person. If he needs a special road, let him build one with their union salaries/contributions.

Same thing with me. Someone dropped me at Falomo and after waiting with the crowd for a long time but couldn't get a bike, I trecked from Falomo to VI. Very painful.

These tanker drivers should stop seeing themselves as gods that should not be rebuked. They should stop endangering people's lives and properties, instead obey simple traffic laws and stop this strike nonsense whenever they are asked to do the right thing.

In addition, if you are able to win her back (I pray so), don't see her as a woman who can't make you a father, instead let the first love radiate in your family.
