Election: We don’t have reports of rigging - EU

The European Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria, on Monday, reacted to the allegation by

the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, that the last Saturday’s presidential election in the country was rigged and that “sophisticated rigging system” was deployed to perpetrate electoral malpractices during the polls.

Buhari had alleged last Saturday that there were reports of planes delivering what was suspected to be presidential voting card already thumb-printed in several states shortly after casting his votes at his Kofar Baru 3 voting centre.

But speaking exclusively to the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, the leader of the EU team, Alojz Peterle, stated that “I don’t know of reports of direct rigging.”

He maintained that ballot boxes were better sealed during the election when compared to what obtained in the previous elections.

Mr Peterle, however, added that “it is early to judge whether everything was done well.”

He further noted that though collation was well organised, “I saw arithmetic problem; they (INEC official) have to check how the figures were done together.”

Earlier in a briefing, Mr Peterle, while presenting a preliminary report, stated that there was considerable improvement in Nigeria’s quest for democracy and asked aggrieved parties to explore legal options in venting their grievances.

He observed that the overall desire of Nigerians in 2015 should be to achieve zero violence before, during and after elections.

How BBC caused crisis in the North

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service had been blamed for the riots and confusion in Adamawa State, following its alleged broadcast that the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, had won the election in Adamawa State, when the electoral commission in the state was still collating results.

The Special Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor, Aminu Iyawa, told journalists that the BBC broadcast was orchestrated to cause mischief and chaos. He said violence erupted after the electoral commission announced Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP as winner in the state.

My question is: is democracy not also about negotiation and compromise?, if that is the case, can Buhari define what 'deal' means?

Fresh Air!!!

And guess what, IBB has also announced that he is retiring from active politics. I do not expect any of the ex-generals of pre-democratic Nigeria to participate in any election henceforth. It is a turning point for Nigeria.
Hopefully the likes of Atiku, Ciroma and co would follow too, lol. grin grin grin grin grin

It means, along with a host of other things, that you can live in a country where you can get up right now, put the lights on and it never crosses your mind that that light "may" go out. And if it does, it's almost certainly a bad light bulb. .  grin grin
Now tell me that's not special.

The good thing is, those people don't need "luck" and "hope" to make that happen. It's their right.
On the other hand, dudes like you have put your vote in a can of "luck", "hoping" it turns out good.

Though I hope GEJ does a u-turn on the rubbish I have seen so far, (it's my country by the way). However, if history repeats itself - as it always does with PDP -  I will be on the side of the opposition having a laugh!
Dude,

I'm a european citizen too and its nothing special, so I enjoy 24/7 steady power supply, so tell me, is that luck?, If Nigerians put their vote on luck, its their decision and u better live with it or quit complaining. grin grin grin

CONFIRMED.

PDP has met condition 2 (25% in 2/3 of the states) already going by the results announced so far.  cool

On to condition 1. Majority of votes condition will be confirmed after sufficient NC votes have been announced. The results from the north suggest PDP is performing reasonably well even with the stiff opposition.

Apart from Ernest Shonekan ( which was indeed a selected interim leader by the military), If GEJ wins today, it will be the first time in ages we are breaking away from the 'gang of military friends' that have taken turns in keeping the presidency to themselves, should'nt we consider this as a FRESH AIR?

PoliticsThe Kind Of People That Shout Buhari! Buhari! Buhari! by omanzo02(op): 8:39pm On Apr 14, 2011
I always believe that beside Buhari there are other capable hands to lead the country than recycled the same person that truncated our democratic growth, Nigeria can survive and grow without Buhari.

So let leave the recycling option and embrace a new idea in leadership. I have come to believe that alot of the people shouting Buhari are difficult learners; you know those kind of people you teach one lesson in school over and over again before they understand it?
