Jonathan rebuffs Ciroma, IBB on 2015 Yusuf Alli, Managing Editor, Northern Operation Fresh facts emerged yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan’s talks with the Mallam Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum collapsed because he refused to accede to two demands by the Forum. The demands are: a written undertaking that he would spend only a term in office and ensure that power shifts to the North in 2015. They also asked him to make a broadcast to the nation on these two commitments. But the President has rebuffed the NPLF leaders over these demands and decided to bear his cross by making fresh inroad into the North through alternative power brokers and northern groups. The NPLF, in collaboration with Igbo Political Forum, had on Thursday technically withdrawn backing for Jonathan during the forthcoming April 9 poll. Investigation by The Nation confirmed that the refusal of the President to meet up with these demands actually accounted for the deadlock at last Friday’s meeting with the NPLF leaders. A top source, who was privy to the talks, spoke in confidence on the grey areas that led to the stalemate. The source said: “The NPLF leaders raised issues bordering on non-respect of commitments and agreements by the President. “They therefore asked the President to enter into a written agreement that he would leave in 2015 and that power would shift to the North in 2015. The Peoples Democratic Party would have to be part of the new power deal. “They even asked him to go the extra mile to make the agreements public through either a press briefing or broadcast before they can give him support. “They said unlike 2002, they want to hold the President and the PDP liable for these new proposals. They hammered on the question of trust. “They said they decided to ask for these so that all Nigerians will be witnesses to history.” But it was gathered that Jonathan considered the demands of the NPLF as undemocratic and unrealistic. The President queried the rationale behind 10 to 15 people sitting down to determine what will happen to the nation in 2015. A top aide of the President, who spoke in confidence, said: “It is true that the President said he cannot enter into a bond on 2015. “He said as Nigeria ’s President, the NPLF should be able to trust him as a reliable leader who will always do his best to preserve the unity and stability of the nation. “The President must to abide by the tenets of democracy and allow Nigerians to choose their leaders without fear or favour. The aide quoted the President as saying:“I won’t write any undertaking. Whoever Nigerians want will be the President. Nigerians will decide their next president in 2015. “This is a democracy, if I say this is what Nigerians should do in 2015 and they decide otherwise, will you still say that I must impose your will on them? The source added that the President told the NPLF leaders that the fact that he initiated the talks presupposed that he wanted the best for the nation in 2011 and 2015. Another factor which might have influenced the President’s position was the fact that he had also made the same promise to the Igbo that it would be their turn in 2015 to produce the president. “You can see that the matter poses a big dilemma for Mr. President, so he had to do the most sensible,” said a source. As at press time, however, the source claimed that Jonathan is already “bearing his own cross” by making inroad into the North. “With the election fast approaching, the President has gone back to his Plan B since the NPLF is technically not backing Jonathan. “I can assure you that the President has opened discussions with other interest groups and other influential leaders in the North, who are considered as ‘match-makers’ in their own right. It is a kind of divide and rule strategy. http://www.osundefender.org/?p=13560 |
Mumu! ![]() Nigeria have been there, done that and moved on. President Shagari had a wife who was white, don't u know that?. Well, my wife is white, should I come to lead your state/village? ![]() |

kobojunkie: I would prefer Buhari wins on Saturday -- Ribadu,if not Buhari. But like you, I have little hope of things changing if Goodluck Jonathan wins .Lol, wonder shall never end , so we also have CPC/political prost.itut.e on NL , because PDP routs Buhari, ANPP in NASS election u are already making a tactical manoveur to join ACN?, when did u become an ACN solidaritist? ![]() Stand by BB till the end, Please. ![]() |
oyb:If u were aware your source (Next) has no proof GEJ campaigne team was involved in the scandal, why accusing Gej as if he is the main character in this episode?, If the story is true, I expect u to blame Mrs Madueke for her action and not someone who is not in any way connected. ![]() so who is the dunce here? ![]() |
NEXT has no information to suggest that the president’s campaign is in fact linked to this bribery scandal. It is not unusual for thieving officials to claim that they are acting at the behest of a president. Upon being contacted by our reporters, a spokesperson for the president’s campaign reacted with alarm and issued a sharp denial@ Oyb, Did u read and understood the quote above before u concluded your judgement in pointing accusing fingers?, if not, then shame on u for your negligency in diluting informations. ![]() |

ajiifixing:Beaf is alive and well I believe, for your information, Beaf have never been elated nor wasted his energy about NASS election, but he is ethusiastic supporting GEJ for the presidency, so wait till next week to call him out for anything. ![]() |
rebranded:Dude, Please, don't get worked up yet, ACN may be winning in Lagos or SW, but that does'nt mean they are in control of the National house of assembly, but as efisher stated, a balance mix in the house of NASS will get the house more vibrant and get the executive to work for the people than just a single party dominating everything. ![]() |
seal777:Ha ha ha ha, oboy! the kolo don start , abi u don become NL TB joshua? ![]() |
Kobojunkie:Seem the little kobo u got from your principal has really made a junkie outta u , so every action taken is decided by the current administration, right?, don't u know when to take up a logical and convincing argument?, noisy opposition, lol . |
Genbuhari3: I laugh in dutch, dream on bro and goodluck to u all.ceah:So think that was a sensible protest vote against PDP? ![]() |
Beaf:Most people here are not concern about the economic and social advantages the candidates will attract to Nigeria, Nigeria has been in the news and editorial searchlight (base on EU evaluation) for a while here in Belgium, despite our political upheavals, Europe still see Nigeria as a pontential economy state and are willing to invest in it but are septical of run-the-state-down candidates that are throwing themselves up. in my oppinion Europe has a more beneficial business plan for Nigeria than the deceitful Americans, most companies and factories here are relocating/opening branches in places where productions are cheaper and affordable and are willing to advice them to move to Nigeria in a stable political enviroment. EU believe more in the power of industrial development to tranform a place than buying oil and giving grant. |
Na wa for u, everything na pdp, abi? e be like say CPC don run out of campaigne ideas. ![]() |
buzugee:Dude, Quit trying to market Uk , I live just over the channel (Belgium), UK is not the best place to live in Europe. The standard and quality of life in Germany is one of the best u can find in the whole world and Uk is not close to it. |
Outstrip:Sure, These are what some of our fellow africans ignore when living a developed world, africa's educational standard may not be as high as in developed world but both is about acquiring productive ideas and developing a social standard, so I don't see why I can't make a maximum use of it and u can compete favourably if u know your onions. They see images of poverty about africa now and then, and there is a common perception he may be poor and uneducated. Its u who have to change that. |
bk.babe97y:I don't disappoint like Buharist, my full support is for the old gangs of rulers to disappear from the presidency, including Buhari, atleast Gej will be the beginning of the gradual phasing out until more able hands and heads to run the country decides to join the recruitment train. Beside, I was in Nigeria end of January and what I saw on the ground is not far from what my friend indicated, but very very very far from the speculation on NL. U are free to call my story fake, I da.mn bet u to show up here to call my story fake when the result are eventually released, deal? ![]() |
Redman44:Dude, That philosophy is so true, Been living in Europe for some years and I have'nt experience any form racism or racial comment and gesture toward me. The fact is, Western europe communities is a place of idea and standard, If u can demostrate that u are someone with productive ideas and standard, u will get the respect u deserve from the people around u. In social interaction, a good logical control of what u are talking will get u far, change perceptions and attract people to want to listen to u and even want to even make friends with u. What amaze me sometimes is that, I have more extreem rights european friends than liberals. |
A female friend of mine who is an EU representative for the election is in Nigeria at the moment, her job is to samples electorate choices ( in rural and urban communities) for statistical comparison when result are eventually released. She called to fluff and tell me how she is enjoying the warm weather, the people and their rich culture, visiting places etc, when I asked what we should be expecting, she remained professional/ethical, but in her answered she said " Its obvious more people love the sitting president" and u all knows what that means. I think the Buharist need a refined strategy if they want to do well in this election. |
agabaI23:Bishop dey fear Buhari, no be lie, afterall delusional coupist are dangerous. ![]() |
Cancelling that project was a flawed decision, I can't understand why some delusional people on here support Buhari's gravious mistake that have taken Lagos 25 years backward in developement. ![]() |
This is cheap blackmail and so flawed.U think everyone are daft like u?. Nice try, please try again. Anybody ( CPC, ACN , propangandist) can obtain GEJ/sambo campaign bag to fabricate cheap stories and lies. Come to think of it, an experience strategist who want to doll out gift to win surport for his principal would'nt assemble everyone at the same time and location. |
fstranger3:Dude, Are u confused?, Offa is in kwara state, A friend of mine is from Ijiagbo Offa and have visited there severally. should I called a kwaran a Lagosian or what are u suggesting? Now I understood why she so (offa) far off topic. ![]() |
LFJ :Lol, dreamer! so u think those bunch of kwarans are the true patriot on here?, I guess I now understood why most kwarans act and thinks like the sarakis, they proposed solution to change Nigeria and their state has been under the grip of a single family for decades. I suggest they free their state first before I take their ideas serious. ![]() |
This is new in Nigeria, I doof my hat for him, this is a sign we are becoming realistic of our conduct. ![]() |
INEC and their contractors are aware the hype and importance of 2011 poll to Nigerians and Nigeria, Some internal contractors are actually reckless and negligent in redering of services, foreign/external contractors capitalises on our lack of attidude toward efficiency and competence to play over our intelligence. If truely the contractor/vendors are responsible for this mess, should they be sued for sabotage? Don't u think INEC can make a celebrated case from this incident to set the stage for a new approach/attidude toward efficiency in Nigeria? |
