peaceland: hello all,
I rarely get drawn to issues like this.
initially I've been enjoying the comments made by people but its no longer funny
are we blind or are we so callous that we cannot tell ourselves the truth even if the western world missed it?
whats wrong with we the so called youths that we are no longer mindful of the future?
what achievement have we made in tackling corruption?. forget the stupid statistics of 2.4 and 2.7;
who honestly on ground can point to 1 thing being done to reduce/fight corruption
we claim the fan is working by calculating rpm; i see the air is still still; which is being more realistic?
even if we are being paid to call blue red; are we that conscience scarred that we are celebrating inanity?
i look forward to that day when the real identities of people behind some user names here would be revealed
we are so callous that we can now look corruption in the face and smile; thousands are without job; a lot lost their job in recent times - all due to corruption, most hospitals (including the national hospital) are dead; we have probably the largest government fleet; daily we hear clearly ridiculous news - latest is banquet hall; once in awhile small corrupt - fries get stove warmed and that's all.....
honestly; anyone who says corruption has reduced or the fight against corruption has improved should please in clear terms give good reasons.
most of the countries we "bested" are war ravaged or just recovering from war/unrest and we are celebrating!??.
thank you all
Thanx for this comment. That's exactly my sentiment too. So much complacency and mediocrity.
And as for the banquet hall issue, its the biggest slap in the face we've received in recent time. You can immagin the fct minister justifyin it by sayin that which exists is 2km from the official residence of the president, so a new one has to be built closer to the residence!!!!!!
Sometyms when i think about this country I come close to tears...
We shall overcome someday.
Politics › Re: Nigeria Anti-corruption Index Improves - TI 2012 Report by omenka(m): 2:54pm On Dec 05, 2012
PointB: I think contrary to the hate campaign by the opposition media and their agents in cyberspace, the International World (Transparency International for example) recognize the fact that the first step in fighting corruption is via transparency (no pun intended). The present government deliberate policy of exposing the rot in the oil and other sectors is very remarkable. It gives the population the opportunity to see for themselves, the corrupt practices enshrined over time, and well covered up by past governments in Nigeria, with options and solutions for dealing with them - i.e. full subsidy removal, deregulation, reform, transformation, privatization, budget cuts and tightening.

While the media may not appreciate the import of this (transparency) due to their partisan agenda, Transparency International, the world foremost corruption rating agency does, and rightly so.

Kudos to the Government for this improvement, even if it is marginal.
The western societies find themselves in the enviable positions they occupy in the commity of nations not because their citizens sing praises of their governments for doing what is required of them to do by law. They are where they are because they constantly criticize, albiet constructively, the deeds and misdeeds of their governments. Their insatiable craving and relentless demend for pace settin performance from their leaders kept their leaders on the grindstone 247 producing unbelievably remarkable results.
It is quite disheartenin to hear jingles of praises for our government when they manage to build some housing estate, or construct some road.. It is such crass bootlickin and mediocrity that has brought this country to her knees cos once the leaders are comended, especially openly, all they assume is that they've finished the job and its now time to rest and enjoy!
Im not one of such who go dancing on their tail like circus chimps just cos the government has done what WE empowered them to do.
I see no good in them 'exposing' the thieves if they can't go the full hog of prosecutin and incarcerating them...
I'd always be critical until we get to that spot when we can take some deep breath of fresh air and exclaim 'Alas, We Have Arrived!'

size38: The things this writer mentioned as no go area are the things that made the man Buhari bad. During last election, Buhari never campaigned in most states down the south. He is a trablist cum fundamentalist .
I beg to disagree with you. Buhari is neither a tribalist nor a fundamentalist. That he couldn't campaigne in all parts of the country only goes to show how deep his pocket is. Buhari doesn't have access to the kinda money those theiving virmins in pdp do. Check out the colosal fraud which was the subsidy regime of 2011. About 400 billion appropriated, yet at the end, over 1.3 trillion spent! Where do you think all that money went to? That was an election year and you should now undastand why nobody is gonna be jailed for that treasonable theft! The presidency orchestrated all that in blatant disregard of our constitution!
Now, Buhari hasn't got all that kin of money hence he concentrated his meager resources on areas where he was sure to be victorious. Are you gonna hold that against him?
I bet if he had had multiple oil wells just like the rest of the ex presidents, you wouldave seen him in ur village...

It realy infuriates me when I hear these south southerners tlk about 'its our OIL MONEY'. During my youth service year in warri, I came across some quite magnanimous and hardworkin deltans, like those who, when driving and they come across a corper, would pull over to offer u a ride even without flaggin them down. That much we appreciated. The educated few are realy likeable and resourceful. But the average southsoutherner is uneducated and LAZY to the bone! All they do is sit around all day, smoke weed, drink 'mukite' and discuss 'bunkering mata', or how to pull off the next scam. The little they make from their retinue of illicit dealings, they expend on whores and the next high!
What is one to make of a people who's wives work as labourers in building sites, carryin headpans filled with rocks, with biceps that would make incredible hulk greener (but this time, with envy), while others chase vehicles up n down the streets in a bid to sell black market fuel? Or in the absence of both, daughters take to the redlight districts just to feed their uterly lazy fathers and a coupla siblings.. Go to effurun and visit PPMC premises or PTI road and u'd see what im talkin about...
You guys should get ur lazy asses up and do something useful with miserable lives like real men do instead of bombarding nairaland and saharareporters with ur inane 'our money' remarks all the time!

Frankly if he takes the federal goverment to a court outside the shores of Nigeria he may win,but sueing federal goverment in a Nigeria court on this particular matter and believing he will win is just being plain stupi.d and those also believing he will win are just extremely stupi.d as well
The crusader ihas been making altruistic efforts to stem the tide of corruption that has engulfed evry facet of our society, beginin from the top, yet armchair critics like u wld always view issues from a political periscope. If eventually he is haunded to a point he has to leave the country and continue his advocacy for good governance and accountability from a country that upholds human rights, same pple like u wld be the first to raise critical tongues and fingers in his condemnation with such remarks as 'that useless old man is abroad saying rubish! acidtalk: I don't hink the sack is justified.

If that's the case, then the JTF commander in those Boko Haram disturbed states, the Police IG, and the Chief of Army Staff are meant to be changed every time an attack happens and of course we all know that will be every single week.

The sack should be from above and not a mere commander. Bunch of toothless bulldogs.
I quite agree with you, but we gotta start the clensing from somewhere. Though this is commin from the DHQ it no doubt had a presidential nod. Perhaps this act would make the top guns in other military formations sit up.

Politics › Comandant AFCSC Jaji And Corp Comander Sacked. by omenka(op): 8:20am On Dec 02, 2012
The Defence Headquarters in Abuja has
announced the sacking AVM Abdullahi Kure, the
commandant of the Armed Forces Command and
Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, Kaduna State and
Corps Commander, Major-General Mohammed Isa
was also sacked.
Their sack follows last Sunday bombing of the St.
Andrews Military Protestant Church at the Army
base leading to the death of 15 persons as two car
bombs exploded minutes apart during a church
service.
The Defence Headquarters spokesperson, Col.
Mohammed Yerima said in a statement that Air
Vice Marshal EE Osim is to replace Air Vice
Marshal Kure as Commandant Armed Forces
Command and Staff College (AFCSC) while Maj
Gen KC Osuji will act as Corps Commander,
Infantry, Jaji.
The statement also stated “An inquiry raised by
defense headquarters to unravel the
circumstances that led to the bomb explosion
which rocked Saint Andrew’s protestant church at
the Jaji Military Command in Kaduna state last
week. Air Vice Marshall Kure and Major-General
Isa will be redeployed by their respective
services.”

In an ethnically biased society such as ours I don't think this is gonna go down well with the northerners even if it is an absolutely innocent decision. Perhaps other competent hands from northern extraction should have been choosen as replacements.
As for me though, it doesn't realy matter where one is from just as long as they can get the job done.

Or is it now mandatory that all governors must know people occupying top public positions even if they haven't met one-on-one?! Now they wanna totally tanish the image of the poor governor. Firstly, who told you the governor is 'poor' (innocent) as u put it, or are you under his employ? Seconly who told you the governor has a good image that they seek to tarnish? Is there a single politician within the bounderies of Nigeria with credibility? Thirdly, how do you know the governor has never met them one on one for them to have concluded that he didn't recognize them?

Let me educate u on his behalf. In my opinion the baseline of 100 members he used is too small. U would agree with me that any church that has been around for up to a year should hav over 100 members that collect up to N18,000 as salary.
Now, for those colosal pentecostal churches whose GOs hav taken to buyin jets as their new found hobby, here is an idea what the figures would look like.

Membership nationwide (those that earn up to N18,000): 8000 (veeeerrryyy modest figure).
Total tithe collected per month:
10/100 x 18000x8000= N14,400,000
Yearly= N172,800000!
In five yrs or less the accumulated ammount could buy one a private jet. Do not forget these monies are lodged in banks and yield interests too!
Govt doesn't tax religious worship centers.
