It's bad sha.

But men also do it to women: you'll have a steady babe jumping bus with you, soaking garri with you, holding you down. Once you make some money, all her faults suddenly become magnified, you then believe that you could do better and be shouting about "peace of mind" and "I have been suffering with that woman!" everywhere.

I do not think Lagos will sink as predicted because we have super brains who will not let it happen. When the treat becomes a reality, the entire world will come to the aid of cities facing similar problems. Rather, we will reclaim more land from the Atlantic Ocean for Lagos. A beg talk another thing.

Ajah near the Dangote refinery should be well planned; otherwise, it will be a dumping ground in thirty years. If properly planned, that area will become the next Ikeja. It will be even better because it will combine Apapa and Ikeja (sea and air ports).

Lagos represents the future. Trust me when I say this. This is the city that many foreigners will flee to. In the next 50 years, Lagos will be completely covered in high-rise buildings.

So, for our generation, let us simply enjoy what we have.
I agree with so much of what you've said, save for the parts above.

I have a degree and work experience in Environmental Engineering. Lagos, NY, Venice and a lot of coastal cities are sinking. smiley

In my lifetime, we went from having to trek from VI to reach Bar Beach to literally driving on it. My kids will see more coastal erosion. But they will do their best to reclaim land and protect VI.

The area around Dangote's refinery will be a mess. A lot of the land around there should be rice paddies (aka only build if you have millions to spend on a Raft Foundation. And I mean millions).

Weirdly, I do agree that for some crazy reason, there's a lot of investment in Lagos that makes no sense: pricey international private school franchises are moving here. And schools price themselves according to their locale. So they must be expecting an influx of $$ millionaires soon.

Ajah is AFTER Lekki. Lekki starts from after the Tollgate (some people like to add Oniru to it) to VGC. After VGC, from Ikota Shopping Complex is Ajah. And then you start to see Sangotedo, Ogombo etc

My sister and her husband moved from Lekki 1 to Ikoyi. And even Ikoyi isn't that great. Even 1004 in VI have issues with their management and tenants who do annoying things like have gas cookers or carry furniture in the elevators.

Nigeria doesn't really know how to run these things.

Lagos shouldn't be building houses anymore, they should be erecting high rise flats like 1004 but higher. Just that real estate is massively overpriced in Lagos and Ogun state is the most poorly run state in Nigeria (because their state govt should have fought to have rails connection to Lagos or even make sure their state is so developed, people move there and can get to Lagos in 30mins).
Travel › Re: Massive Floods In Lekki, Lagos (Videos) by Onegai(f): 7:29am On Sep 24, 2025
Nobody in their right mind should buy a house in Lekki for the next 20 years. The whole area is sinking, bad drainage, dredging has messed up the natural protection it had and sea levels are rising.

Your kids won't see that house as adults.

Either go to Ajah or move to the mainland.

Real estate developers should start making estates like the ones they have in Lekki (fully serviced, 24-hr light and water with gated security) in Gbagada, Ikeja and Surulere and more businesses should move there (though a lot of businesses have left Lekki).

Lekki is nothing. Surulere is cleaner, Gbagada more central, Ikeja has better roads. If I were their LG chairman, I'd offer tax incentives to businesses and real estate developers in Lekki (to attract high income earners) to move to my area, all the roads will be tarred and I'll drive the area boys to Lekki (there are more beggars in Lekki than anywhere else in Lagos).

There's nothing in Lekki anymore. All the people who have money are running from there to Ikoyi and VI.

A lot of people don't know that in Nigeria, if you aren't a Muslim, it is a crime of Bigamy to marry a 2nd wife and you can have the man arrested and taken to court.

A lot of men don't divorce their first wives they just move in with another woman and bury their heads in the sand. When they die, the mistress (because that's what you are if unmarried) finds out the hard way what Revenge can be. There's no "forgive and forget". Your children will go from entering car to go to school to hustling for school fees.

Some men don't even wait to die, when their eyes clear (and it usually does clear), you'll find out the hard way that men really don't like to take blame for their own actions, they'll say "you tempted me from my marriage!".

Don't ever be a 2nd wife to any man whose wife was still in the picture when you met him and started fighting to scatter their marriage or ensure that they stayed separated (because of your greed). It never ends well. God won't hear your cries, when another woman used your name to cry out to Him.

I live abroad for over a decade or 2. And my teaching methods are based on their methods abroad because ours isn't great.

We produce crammers and then an occasional brilliant child. This becomes more pronounced when our kids grow up and go abroad to school. Sure, you'll hear about one Nigerian superstar kid doing feats here and there, but that is like holding up a picture of Tobi Amusan and proudly declaring that Nigeria is a great sporting nation with many medals and trophies.

Jumping any class in Elementary/Primary school is like amputating Kelechi Iheanacho's left leg, giving him a prosthetic and then telling him to run like Mbappe.

And the worst classes to double-promote/jump is Pry 1-4. I can wave jumping Pry 6 but if the child is below 10, please do it.

Those classes are the foundation of Primary school and Primary school is the foundation of Secondary school and Secondary school is the bedrock upon which University is built.

Kids who don't learn how to read well in Primary school become adults who write terrible essays (which is why GRE/GMAT/TOEFL is killing us here).

Kids who are scared of Math become the average Nigerian, poor at Logic.

Nigerians teach Math and Science and Literacy in Abstraction (all theory). I sit with my children and teach them Math that they can hold in their hands (we learn Math physically), Science that they can see everyday (I have primary schoolkids using litmus papers and tuning forks, we just did an experiment to learn Contact Friction) and Literacy that is usable and functional yet beautiful.

Seriously, I've had parents open up their car engines so I can have their kids count the number of pulleys, when teaching Belt and Pulley systems (Physics). And the kids were 6 yr olds. My 10 yr old does long Division faster than a minute, my 8yr old can explain how gear ratios work, rack and pinion gears, how triangles are the strongest shape in construction for load bearing, I have a 5 yr old student who will run around you shouting that he is recreating the orbit of a planet.

That's Astronomy, Physics, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, right there. I don't want my students showing up in University with everything looking like "oyinbo magic", because they weren't taught right from Primary school.

And I would love more kids to show up and learn like this. Instead of what we're doing now...which is cramming and passing.

I want Nigerian kids to know what their peers in China, USA and UK know.

Beerbeer, do you have your elder sister's email?

If you do, please send her this:

"Dear Sis, how are you?

I wanted to see how you're doing. We're fine here.

Please, may I say how sorry I am for what happened between us? I should have informed you of my success, after all, you encouraged me to go into Tech. You probably also prayed for me. You've done so much for me, for us as a family since Mumsi passed away. And I can never repay you.

And I know I should have done better. I'm so sorry.

Please, sis, can I take the burden off you a little by (insert your younger sisters names here) handling their allowance? You can't do this on your own and I want to see you, my sister, happy and enjoying her hard work. God know, Nigeria is very hard nowadays. Let me help.

Someone once said that eldest sisters are your 2nd mother and in you, I find that to be true.

If you don't wish to reply this, I will understand. I will always love you, no matter what.

Please take good care of yourself.

Warm regards,
Beerbeer"

And the next job you get, give her 1/4 of what you earn, and let her be the first to know, via email. Even if she doesn't reply.

And when she eventually unblocks you, make it a monthly habit to credit her phone with like N10k.

It's not about the money, it's the thought that counts. It's very hard to be a provider and people like being appreciated. You didn't appreciate her and she's deeply hurt. And you're selfishly expecting her to get over it and be happy for you. Sure, forgiveness is always good, but you too, shake bodi with repentance.

Hamas giving Israel more excuses to pound harder.

Are these people smart at all?
Yes.

Because they don't want peace. They want a Jihad. Against Israel and America.

They are willing to sacrifice and watch every single Palestinian die painfully, as long as they become martyrs to be used to justify the Jihad Islamic Extremists are itching to start. After Obama got Bin Laden and weakened Afghanistan, they had nowhere to go save Syria and Africa. They've left Africa because they've realized that we're a "shithole" continent (especially Nigeria) with not much to contribute, so the Boko Haram fight is now just Fulani expansionist program, no longer Jihad.

Everytime a step is taken to make Palestine legitimate, Hamas jumps up to push Israel's buttons.

Palestine needs be recognized as a state and to form a government, so they arrest Hamas leaders and hand them over to another country (not Israel) to be jailed or executed. Only then will there be peace.

Can your 4 year old read this?

If she can't, then you need to buy books that are appropriate for her level and sit down with her and READ with her.

(I could help buy books and toys, but I prefer you do it yourself please).

That's way more important than what class she should be in, Nursery 1 is fine if she can't read that by herself.

There's a huge Literacy issue globally, ever since COVID. Kids are struggling to read and comprehension skills are bad.

Baba...no worry urself for now....if she's a sharp brilliant girl........u go catapult am for primary 4 enter jss1....
Then become average in Secondary school and struggle through university.

I'm sorry, but I'm so tired of Nigerian parents, the only reason kids get promoted double class is because:

1. 2 decades and more ago, Nigeria's tertiary system collapsed and strikes became common. So kids were using 6 years for a 4-year course but employers wanted to hire 22 yr olds. Primary school proprietors then introduced "Double Promotion" as a business tool, to attract interested parents by ensuring their kids left Primary school by 8-10.

2. Nigeria is poor and getting poorer, people are cutting cost by jumping classes to pay less school fees.

Those kids aren't geniuses. And I hate saying this about children but I barely meet Nigerian kids who get double-promoted who are smashing educational goals I set for them (yes, I teach. I teach STEAM and Literacy with American and Asian curriculums).

Oyinbo people that created this time of educational systems we copied don't even do this. We're not smarter than them.

I don't want anything that would disrupt her learning. Should I just let her continue nursery1? Thank you.
Has she started reading small small? Can she sound out 2 and 3 letter words? Can she identify her numbers and alphabets? Is she talking well, using sentences? Can she use a pair of child-safe scissors to cut paper, can she crayon nicely? Does she follow instructions in class? Can she put on Velcro shoes by herself?

In 20 years' time, nobody will care that she was 6 years old in Primary 1.

After all, all the "geniuses" in Nigeria cannot beat the average British, American, Singaporean, Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Finnish kid at education. And those ones are usually 6 years old in Grade 1.

My son was 6 yrs old in Grade 1, he's being trained to compete internationally at a Robotics competition (he's the Robot Builder, the crucial team member) and his Science skills is at US-level for his grade (at his school, he has to sit out Robotics class because he has surpassed them all). His math skills are amazing. He's already on a strong Engineering path.

Nobody cares about his age when he entered Pry 1.

My 2+ yr old isn't making full sentences, he can count numbers and assign value to them and build Lego and crayon. His favourite alphabet is letter Z (he dislikes all the other letters). He's in Pre K only because he likes entering the school bus and dancing in class, not that he's supposed to be in school learning anything.

Waldorf-trained kids don't even learn how to read till age 7 yet those kids write essays like scholars 3 years after.

Focus on your kid learning their phonics and assigning value to numbers (not just learning how to count).

Kids aren't even supposed to be in school till 3 and no exams or homework that is graded till 5/6 (Grade 1)

I guess the ugly and gruesome incidents of September 11, 2001, Germanwings First Officer lock of the cockpit and Egypt Air First Officer Abatuti deliberate crashing of that flight among many have revolutionalized aviation safety
9-11, one of the flights, the passengers realized that the planes were being used to attack buildings and rushed the cockpit and attacked the kidnappers. Which is why the plane crashed in a field, as opposed to its target. So that was a good reason to have cockpit area accessible.

German Wings air crash, Egypt Air crash and the Malaysian Air crash (you didn't mention that one) should actually be an argument AGAINST cockpit barriers, don't you think so, please?

Because all 3 were sui.cide-murders and the killers all locked themselves into their cockpits. The German one, the copilot and crew were banging on the locked doors (if I recall).

These new barriers are intended for passengers. I'm sure these incidents of passenger disruption happen more than pilot killing everyone. But have they figured out a way to keep the cockpit door open to crew, should a pilot go crazy?

I can send my kids to both Grandmothers and they'll be fine and well-looked after, but they will pick up a wazoo of bad habits between those 2 old ladies lipsrsealed. They'll do better with Grandpa, as he's at the right age to reflect on his previous shortcomings and do better.

Family › Re: Insufficient Sex From My Wife by Onegai(f):
Mishydoo

I’m really impressed and happy to have read this. You sound like you know this subject. But I have a few questions for you: i honestly want to know.

I’m talking about a responsible man now, who provides and helps well with household.

What exactly is the woman’s role in this if the man would do all this?
Her role is the same as his role if there were reversed, which is usually the case. If you would easily give this advice to a woman whose marriage is faltering, then there should be no issue with giving it to a man. It's even biblical

Why do these sound like conditionalities…when empirically you do more now (invest more time, money etc) than when you were dating but get less now?
Because that is the reality of Marriage. Even abroad, couples who date for years get married and divorce in under 2 years. You have to put in more work to sustain it. That is the meaning of the word: Commitment.

And how exactly do you do this with kids?

How long can you keep this date nights and all up with limited time and resources?
Intentionality (a cute buzzword). Basically, if it's important to you, you'll make time. I've never seen a husband who loves football miss a match. I've never heard a man declare he was too busy or too broke to cheat, money will magically be squeezed out of a rock to buy a side chic a new phone. Yet when it comes to the flesh-of-his-flesh wife, excuses begin to pop up. Date night doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to happen.

Now she knows, now she says date nights etc are just cos you wanna get laid, so you don’t get any. Whats the motivation to go on?
Companionship in your old age. A lot of men are drinking the red pill and saying Polygamy and Adultery are the cure to old age loneliness. I'm here to categorically assure you that's a lie. My stepmother packed her load once the money and affection ran out, same with every 2nd wife and side chic of different men, around me. My MiL is the 3rd, much younger wife and she's busily building a factory and has left her elderly husband in the village to fend for himself. It is the wife of your youth that will care for you in your old age. Again, even the bible supports this

What happens when she isn’t happy with you? Frankly, you cannot make one happy all the time…but you want some.

Again, if you wanted to cheat on your wife, this thought would NEVER cross your mind. You'd do whatever was necessary to win that side chic, but make excuses to woo your wife, the mother of your kids. A white guy whose marriage was floundering said a coworker of his was begining to look attractive. So he drew up plans on how to get his coworker to cheat with him (dates, messages, gifts etc). Then applied every single step to his wife. And his marriage survived.

Btw, that is a very common theme amongst divorced people dating or remarried: they finally start acting right and doing the right things...to the wrong person. And then realize their marriages could have been saved but now they've doomed their kids to 2 households, shared holidays, stepparents and siblings (and that wahala involved) and a painful lump in their chests when they see united families. My uncle told my mum, 34 years after his remarriage, that his divorce was his biggest regret and if he had been emotionally mature he would never had ended his 1st marriage. And that is a very common, sad, private thing that's shared to psychologists.

Wasn't it easier to just fix your marriage in the first place?

SuperPanther, I wrote this last year. Please read

Onegai:
Bro, because you haven't started cheating, please let me share some tips.

She feels EXACTLY the same way you do, about you. Like if you dropped dead, she'd cry but also be relieved.

Now, you have 2 choices:

1. Blow up your marriage.

Seems easy but I swear to you, you'll regret it when you're older. Even if you do cheat and stay, she'll know. And I'm telling you as a woman, we can hold grudges till we die. If you want to be 65 and terrified of trusting a woman who has been angry for decades about your behaviour with your old age, pray continue like several other men.

2. Fix your marriage.

Sounds hard, but take my advice and in 6-9 months, you won't be on NL talking like this. You'll be grinning in delight, your wife will be your babe once again.

To achieve no.2, turn her into your side chick

You're the man, the marriage takes its temperature from you (even biblically it is so). Fill her emotional cup (it is empty, so she can't pour into you). Love her. How so?

- sit down and make a list of everything you are attracted to in a woman. Ask her to make the same for her ideal man. Exchange the lists. INTENTIONALITY.

- spend time and attention on her. If she watches kdrama, ask to watch one with her. Forreal. Kdrama has horror, suspense, political, love, marriage, thriller, action and sci-fi. Which means, you can actually watch something with her. Then make her watch your stuff with you. AFFECTION.

- date night: every weekend this December, find somewhere you and her will go to. I can give you tips sef. ATTENTION.

- send her a link to a men's wear vendor and ask her to pick what she likes you to wear. Then buy it and wear it. Now do the same for her. Down to perfume. Pay for her manicure and pedicure. Whatever you like, you lead by example. VALIDATION AND TRUST.

- every time you see a fine girl outside, text your wife. Tell her "I was just thinking of you". Chat her up. If she's on social media, it's because YOU DON'T TALK TO HER SO SHE'S LONELY IN YOUR MARRIAGE AND IS FINDING VALIDATION ONLINE. And there are several Balthazars in Nigeria (they just don't record it wink ). So be chatting your wife up, gossip, gist, funny jokes, se.xy talk. ATTENTION.

- Spend some money. Be it sexxx toys, lingerie, ankle chain (you'd be surprised what she likes). Books, whatever. AFFECTION

- Pray with her. Wake up and find a prayer on Pinterest, personalise it and send "Iremide, ....". LOVE AND CARE.

- tell her "Iremide...I don't want to just lead you, I want to be your king. Be my Esther. Look good for me. Please let me pamper you. Let me solve all your problems. The problems you solve yourself, share them with me, so I can praise you. Stain my eyes with your beauty and shake my mind with your wisdom. I love you". Tell her this twice a week. LOVE AND GUIDANCE.

- Look at your flaws and start correcting them. If you can't change, then neither can she. Change starts with you, not with her. Read that again. Go and read the bible, God is very clear whose He holds responsible for the health of a marriage. Change starts with you. SELF-REFLECTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

- Remember, you're the Head of the House, it's actually your job to lead your marriage. The reason so many marriages are unhappy are because men are being irresponsible and women are doing their jobs. RESPONSIBILITY.

There is no such thing as a submissive second-in-command who does all the work whilst Dangote stays lazy. Read that sentence again.

Do this. Work on yourself. Don't expect quick fixes, but start this December (I fit drop list of restaurants and hang outs. Come back and testify next year. Sha don't get pregnant o, because the last couple who did all this, surprise last baby at 46 sad grin

So, it's upto you. Make your choice.

All the best
PS: Adultery and Divorce are the 2 worst things you'll ever go through and it is very sweet for people to dish out advice like it is TomTom. Adultery/Cheating destroys your soul and Divorce is like death.

I pray you resolve this and grow old with your wife

French is more important than Mandarin because we are surrounded by French speakers. I hope they don't make those languages mandatory for these children though
We don't do enough business with the countries around us to justify learning French, sadly. We do more business with China and borrow heavily from them, so mandarin it is.

Nobody in Africa does serious business with each other save for Dangote.

And this is just the African version of The Confucius Institutes the CCP has been establishing in Western countries (the govts of USA and Canada started shutting them down because they suspected the Chinese govt was using them to spy and recruit ABCs and CBCs).

Dear parents, if you truly cannot afford a lot in schoolfees, please go for what you can afford and survive.

But put in the work. Don't rely on teachers (they're teaching 20-50 kids in a class, your kid won't benefit). Get lesson teachers and good textbooks, build a library (I encourage partnerships with other parents to buy books and share resources.

I may do a post on how to supplement Primary Education...

We cannot start apportioning blame is suspecting foul play if we don't hear the full story
I agree but you apportioned blame first with your comment. So I gave a rebuttal.

It's easy to blame women when anything goes wrong. Far too easy. And our Lord Jesus doesn't like that.

A child is dead and the father did not see it as serious enough to inform the mother. There's no excuse for that, period.

You said not more than 5 na
So let's start there
Hope you are one of the 5, since it's your field
I look like pikin to you grin grin

Oya, show me

There's a grading system which ensures that the best in certain levels still win an award but overall best isn't ever an African. There was this Nigerian boy that was very brilliant and was beating everyone until he did the Stanford Olympiad and he got a Notable Mention Award.

The order in Math is usually

1. East Asian
2. Western Caucasian
3. South East Asian
4. Eastern Caucasian

There was one Northerner guy who was truly amazing. China swooped him up, he even has a Chinese wife and kid. My nephew is a Dr in Quantum Physics, I don't even think he's kissed a Black girl in his life (he has a Chinese gf). Any African who shows truly exceptional talent isn't going to be left here.
