baba11: I'm beginning to think otherwise, you know Microsoft just acquired Nokia some months ago, because of this they can achieve alot since they are @ the helms of affairs#just saying sha!
hmmm... Lets see what would happen to OEM producers of pc. A company can't determine the trend of technology. Just an example i have lots of people who still stuck to their win 7 because of the look of win 8. They said what they want is a pc and not another computer looking like a smart phone. Reason why the start button is returning with win 8.1. Thats just one example.

semid4lyfe: @ onegig and All4naija

Thanks.

I've been able to recover my files in my bad Ext HD and all of 'em were undamaged. It was oyb's post in page 114 of the Ubuntu Linux thread that pointed me in the right direction. All it took was a professional recovery Software. . .Runtime GetDataBack.

This software BAAAD. As in, I hadn't deep scanned more than 10% when it detected all my files (813GB worth of stuff) in the 1TB Ext HD. It was going to take 11hrs to finish scanning but I stopped it @ 10% to test if it would recover the files successfully and it did. Also, All the files were undamaged and usable. I even installed the Windows 8.1 Pro WMC OS ISO and many other softwares I recovered from the HD and they all worked perfectly. ALL THIS AT JUST 10% shocked

Thanks once again.

Good . Thank God wo got your files back. Your partition tables got corrupted and all you needed was a software to correct this. I will take note of the software. Thanks for giving the feedback.

jonescyras: I want to replace my hp 630 screen!!! Pls how much will it cost me?.........and besides, can I also replace the case cover?
Yes.

Would cost you 13k for the screen and 5k for the casing . However. You can only replace the back cover and not the hood.

dustydee: @OP I truely understand what you mean.
from the password reset example you gave, that means that your are still tracable with your email address even after deactivating your account. Now that can be very tricky and I think Seun should look into it. I also believe it is a work in progress. Idon't understand why people are criticizing the OP.
@ Gboliwe
I can't find where the poster suggested that every comment or thread created by a deactivated account should be automatically deleted. Please read before you make comments like you did.
Abi o . help me truly explain to them

This is a not a fight for or against privacy. This is about apparent lapses.

You don't tell me i have deactivated my account but my email is still located on the server and can be still be referenced.

That's what we are discussing here but like most Nigerians we lose focus of the main issues and face irrelevant or off topic issues.

If you want to argue about removing the deactivation link and denying people the right to their privacy then suit yourself and open a new thread for that.

funkybaby: Thanks. God bless you Sis!

I'm also surprised they've gone this techy. What happened to the good ol' days of paying your fees using bankdraft, paying cash at the bursar's office or paying cash/bank transfer into the school's account. This portal ish is long thing jare.
if you have ever had the course to queue for hundred years just to make each course payment and sign then you would better appreciate the portal of a thing which makes it almost effortless to make payments..

deols: Well, they seem to be having their way. I cant remember the last time I browsed internet with my Pc..

The phine has taken over..it allows ppt presentations etc. I have kept the pc cos of the documents it contains. If I am able to move them, its job is relegated to that of a typewriter and tv.
Maybe for you sis. I want to imagine running computer aided design softwares on a tablet, or creating animated images or videos on a tablet. You can do some work but i doubt in the next 50 years we would be able to replace the pc with tablets . They are two distinct things and the earlier we know and accept this the better. Its just like the tv. . I don't see them going anywhere. Their speed and quality would just improve.

deols: PHCN things abi? grin

I dont have that problem. at least not now.

Well, this will get better and become more acceptable soon. I like that I can use it with my phone. and also have it charged and use it at any time and at different places. My almost - crashed PC can have some rest grin
yeah partly but i see they are trying to make smart phones the mainstream devices by introducing newer technologies like this . Sorry to bust their bubble it won't work. Smart phones can never take the place of pcs
ComputersRe: Do You Have A Hardrive With Wi Fi or Understand How it Works?? by onegig(m): 9:58pm On Oct 20, 2013
deols: Yes. Like a hotspot.

Three computers can have access to different things on it at a time.

The password thing works too. Thank you, too. I just did not think it would be so hard like this.

I feel better about it now. I'll pray too and keep it.
Welcome. Those things cost an arm and leg. I am sticking to the conventional hard disk Abeg. Also you need to charge them which is a big turn off.
ComputersRe: Do You Have A Hardrive With Wi Fi or Understand How it Works?? by onegig(m): 9:46pm On Oct 20, 2013
tunshe: Thanks bro,I know the connectivity is by wifi.

Do you mean that the device will see the HDD as a folder and access the content?

If yes,I doubt its compatibility with apple products.

Thanks anyway.

@Deols,

Nice info, whats your experience with the HDD?
depends on manufacturer. But most creates a hot spot where the devices connects to. It works with Apple's products actually. There ios apps for these.

Deols.. I guess yours works like an Hot spot. You could password the hard disk. Also you could password the hot spot to avoid others from connecting to it. Read up on wep protocols. Also dc in means direct current in.

Its actually a normal external hard disk but this has added wireless functionality. Suitable for people using tablets. You can connect/ transfer files between the two device just as if its a legacy usb device. But this time the medium is through wireless and not a usb.

Gboliwe: Don't bring your very dirty laundry or your family history or any dirty secret here. This is a public forum, not your private study!
When you get tired and want out, hit the deactivate button and become nobody! Is that too techy?
ok. I give up. Seriously. Did you read through the thread at all before rushing to comment?
Nairaland GeneralRe: The Nairaland Deactivation Button. Issues. by onegig(op): 11:23am On Oct 20, 2013
Gboliwe: this is a public forum and not your personal private timeline like in facebook! You create a thread for knowledge, entertainment or wateva, and other people make their inputs, why would you want to take it out? What happens to my own input? Doesnt that mean anything to you? People scramble for their threads to make frontpage, many are willing to pay to have it there, it eventually gets there, just when I want to learn a thing or two from it, you decide to deactivate and take along all the comments? That is absurd.
There is a modify button. Take your time and modify all your posts, deactivate your account and move on. Nobody is your name!
could this get any worse? I just understand that phrase that if you want to hide something from a Nigerian. Put it in a book or writing.

WackyJ1: I listened to the laptop and i realised that when i turned on the Laptop. The fan starts for 1 second and then turns off but the laptop remains on. What could be the issue. Can just the fan be repaired?
you still putting it on? Try removing the ram and switching or replacing them. Also perform a hard reset. Remove the battery and disconnect the mains. Hold the power button for thirty seconds to one minute. Release and power on normally.

lol.. You are quite right about your analysis there. Most see this as criticizing. Its normal parlance in the programming world to test and debug... Also What most don't understand is...this privacy thing is encompasses much more than your posts alone. Thats the point. No one is advocating for the clearing of people's post. Thats virtually impossible on a forum. We quite know that. Its a no brainer..but what about the other little details? Thats where the main issues are.

Kslib... I understand there are always two sides to a discussion. Thats why i pointed to a guy up there that he was entitled to his opinions. I just wanted the thread to focus mainly on the issue at hand and not via off towards other trivial issues. Thanks for responding .

barefootbandit: As in, that was exactly what I was about to say.

Even though I am more inclined to favour the op, and you spent most of the time criticizing him, I still do not understand why your post was hidden.

Like you said, it wasn't in anyway offensive but was a critical counter argument.

These mods ehn, I hail them.
i also don't support hiding his post but seriously he went off topic totally. I was discussing the evident lapses in the deactivate link and he was here talking about why we don't need privacy. I intentionally avoided replying him because i knew it was a waste of time. Seun that acceded to the request of users to create a deactivation button knew how imperative it was.

It was out of place for him to be arguing on whether we needed it or not. We sailed past that bridge already. To remind everyone...i was talking about the effectiveness of such platforms and ways of improving it to achieve its desired goals not whether we needed it or not. Its a basic right and not a luxury.

WackyJ1: Oga 1gb ened to me today with my laptop. Drink spilt on it, just a few keys and not too much and i hurriedly cleaned it. The system was still working fine. Then i left to somewhere, put the system on hibernates mode then i left. When i came back i switched it on, it worked. I watched a series on it and then i switched to a new Nigerian CD I bought as i was watching it, after sometime the laptop just SWITCHED ITSELF OFF. when i tried to restart it, the power butto would light, the wifi button would light even the external speakers would light and if i should plug my phone to the system via USB, It would indicate yet the screen remains blank and doesn't come on. What could be the problem
i guess the problem is connected with the spilled drink. You might have to take it for physical examination.

leunamme93: Is the motherboard spoilthuh
nope. .the motherboard isn't. Far from it. Highest you might have to do is re install or repair the currently operating system. I.e the windows. Can you restart and hold the f8 key. Next select safe mode. Let it load. Report back.
