I don't claim to be a professor of english language but i have noticed the misuse of these two words by most Nigerians. Been is the past participle form of the verb to be. It is used with the auxiliary verbs has, have, and had to form perfect tenses: How long has it been since you were in Paris? He had been writing that novel for thirty years when he died. How long have you been living here? Being is the present participle form of the verb to be. It is used with the auxiliaries is, are, was, and were to form continuous tenses: Mary is being difficult. The letter is being written. It is used as a verbal, a word that partakes of both verb and noun: Being polite is more productive than being rude. The word being can also be used a noun meaning “creature.” But i see many Nigerians using and mixing up these words. Examples i have seen on here:Have you being checking the site? The Entrant Status Check, where you saw your 1st notification letter. If you have other confusing words . Please do post here so we could learn. |
Phema: Oh, I thought Ify said she will send his account details to anyone interested in helping out.staying positive here. But if they don't which i believe won't happen. There's always a way. I just have an inkling they would open it before next week. Guy, keep checking the portal daily. Hand fit scratch the it guy make he release the payment link by mistake. I have been taught that miracles do happen and i do believe one would happen here. |
So much for taking care and being romantic to her.. Catching the fancy of another on the sidelines i guess. ... Don't mind me...am just being "tpia ish." |

geeez: Last year a 10MW power plant was built for €12m (N2.6bn) in a country that had the technical and material requirements - GermanyEverything makes it overpriced. you forgot to tell us clean energy was used. Do you know its much more expensive building solar power plants than the normal Gas fueled power plant built by Eko and Oando? It's a good idea but don't go comparing the amount for a Natural gas power plant and a Sower powered plant which needs zero input. Have you factored in running cost for buying Natural Gas in the next ten years? |
ifyalways: Sounds serious and bad for the OP.A big amen to that....But there are always way. I believe a miracle would happen. He might even lose studentship if he doesn't pay. That's how cruel some Nigerian rules can be. "If they won't reopen it...i might be willing to help using a backdoor policy . Don't quote me" |
mechummy: My system has refused to finish booting;( The last time I used it was yesterday evening around 7pm the battery was low so I hibernated to save what I was doing.Restart the system and hold the f8 key. Select safe mode. If it loads into safe mode. Just restart the system. If it does not work. Come back and explain. |
bellong: You can help me do that... I tried hard to add it but didn't want to turn it to Greek...Nah...Not me. You know am not versed in that area. Am pseudo-igbo...Wasn't proud enough to learn my local language. LOl ![]() However...a quick search on the net Shows it is "ibola chi" |
ifyalways: @Bellong,how far now? Please, were you able to get the PA to the school's VC? Can you get the OP's details via PM and have the PA confirm if he's actually a student ,if he's owing and how much?no need for such wahala. Just ask him to send you his portal details. I.e the login details..all those information would be there. His level, amount owing. Studentship status and anything you might need. |
bellong: E kaaro ooo gbogbo ile..... Ina kwana...... Good morningwhat about we Igbo folks? |
Harpesin: 16th of October.....wow..we are taking over. lol. 4th person on this thread. Welcome bro. Happy birthday in advance. |
Saw this quote I remember the late Gaddafi crying out loud that some of the so called rebels struggling to oust him were Al Qaida affiliates. Nobody took heed and this was taken as last kicks of a dying horse. If they were Al Qaida then somebody was arming them provided Gaddafi was smoked out. Talk of the end justifying the means. The same groups are now back to haunt the victor. If the overall goal was to remove the 'dictator', where is that democracy now? If the overall goal was to attain peace in the region, what version of it are we witnessing in Libya? If brutality was the problem under Gaddafi, was the Prime Minister ushered away using guitars? Are we able to face the militia now and tell them they are doing wrong when we celebrated their mayhem during the rebellion? Surprisingly these are not lessons; we are arming some hotheads in Syria in the name of protection against Assad.Very apt. See why America has no right interfering in local politics or a country. You provide arms to people |
Joecares: My o.s now displaay that my windows software iz not genue.pls people wat can I do before it gets worst?Get activated buy a genuine windows 7 or 8 key. |
Rhemmymatician: All4naija Still not bringing up the safe mode screenJust saw the image. Ok ...Was it pre installed with windows 7? |
Rhemmymatician: I bought my Dell n5050 inspiron, around 2 months ago. Yestersay I used it to charge my phone till it hibernated itself. After I charged it and on the laptop it is saying 'WINDOWS FAILED TO START. A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. TO FIX THE PROBLEM:why didn't you text me about this. Restart the system and press f8.. Select safe mode. If it loads in safe mode, restart the system and continue your normal work . You removing the cable without properly removing it is the cause. The system memory has lodged the address of the device into memory and its trying to reference it. Its like searching for an already removed knowledge. Sorry about it bro. |
funkybaby: Oh ok. I get your point.Yeah... The so called seventy million they give out to individual artiste if true. Would pay the school fees of 700 students each paying over a 100k. Look at what impact that would have had. But i don't blame them. Each coy has its own policies. |
funkybaby: Erm.... I won't be quick to blame the government on this one.I am not blaming the government and am not even looking at things from his own perspective. Am just looking at the general view of the Nigerian educational sector. Everyday fees are been increased without the commensurate increase in the pay or some sort alleviation for a greater number of the middle class who struggle to send their wards to school. Shouldn't there be incentives like scholarships and stuff to encourage the indigent but intelligent ones...What about student soft loans(like them paying half when they graduate or spread it over five years) I guess that's a discussion for another day. |
Good job to all those willing to help. Seriously ...I just hope we do something about the educational sector in this country. No one seems to care . There are lots of people who can't afford to pay their fees and you see them falling for different things in order to raise such sums of money. What happened to scholarships and student loans? Most coys(e.g. Glo esp.) are busy paying wizkid et al millions for shows and endorsements . but question is what about our students? We all can't thrive on entertainment alone. There are people who need genuine help. |
