Another honest Yoruba man. I tell you, if I can find 5% of Yorubas who think like this man, there is hope for Nigeria. I want more voice for folks like this in Yoruba land. |
They are busy counting their money. They don't like being "disturbed". Wait until they leave office. They will come to your house sef if you want. |
excanny:You are not ranting. The difference between the Otedolas, Jimoh Ibrahim and a Ifeanyi Uba is that both Otedola and Ibrahim come from a section of Nigeria that understands these things and have maneuvered themselves to strategic relevance through the years, while the Igbo have been busy seeking justice and equity for all in Nigeria. Without an Obasanjo -who empowered these guys greatly- I wonder whether they could have done much on their own. That is the point I'm trying to make here. That Jonathan will play softly with Otedola or Ibrahim is not just because those guys payed into his campaign. It is more because Obasanjo will ring his balls if he doesn't. So out of fear of Obasanjo, Jonathan won't dare touch those guys. We have no such powerful person in Igboland. If Ifeanyi Uba spends his money to support Jonathan, there is no guarantee that he would play ball to secure his business interests, because I have not seen that Igboman that Jonathan fears. Let's keep things in proper perspective. |
Beaf:Anyone who supports Jona is your main man. Anyone who doesn't is your. . .arch enemy? |
Bia Slap1, gini ka iji akwado nwokem a n'achi anyi? Achorom ima nke bu eziokwu. Ibi n'Aba, ya mere I g'ama ihe bu eziokwu n'ihe ndia anyi n'ekwu maka ya. Ngwa gwam! ![]() |
ChinenyeN:Ordinarily I would agree with most of your points here, but, there is more to Nigeria than those things. ![]() If you take a close look, among almost all Nigerian millionaires, only the Igbo millionaires made their money without any government "aid". Show me a Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba or even Niger delta millionaire, and I will show you when his/her hand was in Nigeria's coffers. ![]() Now, the problem does not stop there, it goes much further. Like excanny tried to explain, if our problem is that we need to survive on a leveled field where every Nigerian hustles to make it, then we have no problem at all! ![]() The problem has been a situation whereby Nigerian presidents (Obasanjo in particular) used as much presidential fiat as possible to kill most "millionaire status" Igbo businesses. It did not start with Obasanjo. He only raised the level a bit higher. If other Nigerians ride on the back of the federal government to become millionaires, why not Ndigbo too? Are we not Nigerians? Another point is that Nigerian presidents through the years after the war ensured that Igboland lacks international access and federal projects (which normally enrich individuals in their catchment areas). This is really a no-brainer. If Ndigbo must continue to stay in Nigeria and aspire to be the best (like everybody else), we need to handle the presidency for at least 8 years. ![]() If that doesn't happen, then, we must use every resources at our disposal to break away from Nigeria. No hard feelings. |
Dede1:Well said. From my experience of nairaland, there is really only one ethnic group that fuel that suspicion against Ndigbo. That tribe is Ijaw. Let's keep things in proper focus. SS is what I call a "halfway house". One day it will attain socio-ethnic homogeneity. By that I mean, troublesome tribes will be carved out to stay on their own. In the history of eastern and southern Nigeria, only the Ijaw had taken up arms against their neighbors, be it Igbo in Biafra or Itshekiri. |
Ani Anne:So who swept the first bombing cases in Niger delta under the carpet? ![]() How many commanders in chief do we have in Nigeria? ![]() What is the difference between the Bayelsa and Edo state bombings and this one in Abuja? ![]() Is it because Niger deltan life is not equal to Abuja life? ![]() What woke him up now? I suspect politics! Some of you guys really need a lesson in logical reasoning. |
Beaf, thank you so much for the information. That is why I have a SPECIAL respect for you here. |
Beaf: ![]() I came close to tears after they pulled the first miner out. What I found outstanding was the level of national and international support this operation is receiving. God! |
Ujujoan:I understand why Peter Obi said that. They are aiming at sustainability now. I am however disappointed in him and his colleagues on this issue. They should have thought about that fee BEFORE they built those schools. Did they build the schools to extort money from students? If they knew that fees would be that high, they should have waited until they can subsidize student fees BEFORE building the schools. ![]() As it stands now, they might as well sell off the schools to private investors. Only then would such fees be pardonable. You don't use our state funds to set up a bilking trap for us! Nonsense. ![]() |
wesley80: ![]() You see my point? Most of the GEJ supporters have absolutely no clue what he should be doing. I bet you that most of these guys just want a president from Niger delta even if a lame duck one. That is my problem with Jonathan and his supporters. They are yet to prove to me that he is worth sacrificing for. I wouldn't support him to just sit there and waste four yours, and then hand back to the north. You must demonstrate (not through hope and baseless optimism, but through actionable facts) that he is better than other candidates who can at least provide security to ALL parts of Nigeria. By excusing Jonathan for his inaction in bringing bombing suspects in the Niger delta bombing cases to justice, they are indirectly saying that life is cheaper in Niger delta than in Abuja. He did nothing when folks died in Niger delta through bombings, now he wakes up from his long sleep! For you to become a top runner, you must not be a cripple in the first place! That is my point. Anyway, lets see how things unfold. I wouldn't cooperate with him if I were an Abuja person (indigene or resident), after all he should get the delta bombers first. ![]() By the way, can you process the fact that we have many candidates in the race, and that we should at least examine each candidate closely? Why do you assume I am an IBB supporter? As at today, I probably support Ribadu (for his guts!). A leader must have guts. I might even support another candidate tomorrow depending on how things unfold. ![]() |
wesley80:Anyone familiar with my position on Jonathan would recognize that my issue with him is mainly one of weakness or inaction or indecision. Leadership don't mix well with those things. They are like water and fire! Of course I don't expect him to "kill a lion bare handed" in two months, but the Igbo say that a chick that will become a cock is known young (you see it flying on top of his mother!). Jonathan is a young man full of blood and energy. He needs to show us that he is different from his older counterparts. As far as I'm concerned, Jonathan must achieve one thing -resource control- for him to be taken seriously especially by his home base. That would effectively neutralize the aims of MEND. I even suspect that is why he was elevated in the first place. People thought he could stop this MEND thing. He has not. ![]() I had advocated that he uses whatever power at this disposal to lobby the members of the national assembly to restructure the revenue sharing formula to give more money (and responsibility) to the states where they are generated, hence making the federal government less attractive to thieves. He can do this, but it appears that is not his immediate priority. He is focused on wining elections next year, and in the process, he is abdicating his role as the commander in chief of the federal republic of Nigeria. A month on the seat of power (one as powerful as Nigerian presidency) is worth a whole lot! He has not done much in nine months. I can't see him doing anything even if given four or eight more years. He should always remember that he is the president of Nigeria, and that time is not his friend. Let that guy borrow me for two months sef! ![]() |
This is Mr Segun Aganga's coon. I don't buy it one bit. Actually the only point I took out of the story is that Mr Aganga wants " a continuation of policy", meaning he doesn't want to lose his job yet. ![]() |
df2006:To all the English language pedants here, I have a very simple question. Please, who was the president of Nigeria when all these previous bombings occurred and was not investigated? Did any of those bombings take place under Yar adua? I really need to know. Maybe I need to take up Beaf's adult English class. ![]() |
Very well written. Laden with points. My biggest fear about Jonathan is that he will waste 4 years and hand back to the north. |
Katsumoto:Katsumoto You are becoming cruder by the day. Your lies have lost their finesse! ![]() So, you want us to rely on British duplicitous naming habits to define what happened between the Igbo and the British? In the eyes of the British, which African kingdoms were recognized as kingdoms by the British, and what was the criteria for such recognition? ![]() The Zulu and Swazi kingdoms who fought the British as you stated earlier, were they not called savages, and were their kings not called "paramount chief of the savages". Which African city was so recognized as "city" by the British? In terms of African military operations, the British called it expedition. African kings were called chiefs, even if the king ruled over more people than the English population. My friend, you have stepped even lower. ![]() |
jason12345: jason12345:My friend I don't think you understand what naughtiness or selfishness means. I wish I am 10% as you say. Ndigbo have sacrificed in terms of human life more than any other tribe for Nigeria's continued existence. In all the meetings between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Edwin Clarke, it has always been Ohanaeze going to meet Clarke. Who the hell is Edwin Clarke, if not that the Nigerian system has empowered him more than more qualified folks in Southern and Eastern Nigeria? ![]() Why should the traffic be one way? The Ijaw is always suspicious of Igbo intentions, why should any sane Igbo not be suspicious of Ijaw intentions? ![]() Like I said already, if Ndigbo should support Jonathan, let it NEVER be because the S.south will count it against us if we don't. Let it be because Jonathan has something concrete to offer Ndigbo. I don't give a rats a55 what the Ijaw thinks. They have betrayed us more than we can ever betray them till the end of time. Period. ![]() As for the Yoruba, I believe that they have more potential to make things right with Ndigbo. I see some signs of that with the way some of them (Like Lam Adesina) talks about zoning. |
DeLaRue:I totally agree with the bolded. A lot of folks here talk without understanding. Ndigbo will not accept that the civil war has ended until one of them serves as a president of Nigeria. Now, this is the view of conservative Igbos. Radicals will tell you that they want secession or nothing, and by any means necessary. Some of the commentators here are too young to understand why I said what I said. Being young is not an excuse for stupidity though. History changes very little. |
Ibime:Now I believe that there may be a conspiracy against Ndigbo by some southern interests. ![]() Like I have always said, Ndigbo should NEVER care about what anyone thinks or counts against them in Nigeria. We should have a laser focus on what we want in Nigeria, be it presidency or outright secession. The southern groups have betrayed us far more than we can EVER betray them, so they can go to hell for all I care. ![]() If Ndigbo should ever support Jonathan next year, let it NEVER be because some S.south people would count it against us if we don't. These folks have no grounds whatsoever to count anything against us. All they have ever done in Nigeria since even before 1960, has been to scheme us into subjugation in Nigerian politics. Let Ndigbo decide on who is in their best interest -IBB, ATIKU, RIBABU or JONATHAN (IF HE PLAYS BALL). For me, I'm beginning to have a REAL second thought on Jonathan. I better deal with a devil with whom I fought a brutal war, and who understands that I can fight, than a delusional minority who think they can hold me to ransom. ![]() |
chyz:I see your points. Still unfortunate. |
Ileke-IdI:Are you saying indirectly that your folks were crazy during the war? ![]() 'Cos those were their normal daily activities during the last war. Didn't you know that? ![]() I was the vanquished. ![]() That is why you won't see me or my folks fight for those who ensured we lost. ![]() |
MAYOWAAK:Jonathan’s Ambition ’ll Spell Doom For Nigeria -Primate Ayodele Written by Idowu Adelusi Saturday, 09 October 2010 NOTWITHSTANDING the change that took place in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a cleric, Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, has predicted again that the 2011 general elections will not be free as anticipated by most Nigerians. The primate, who disclosed this to Saturday Tribune in an interview in Lagos during the week, said President Goodluck Jonathan has put his hopes in INEC to win the election. The prophet again reiterated that President Jonathan was not the person God ordained to win the election, but because of his “ambition and desperation,” he would use the power of incumbency to force INEC to rig the election in his favour. He said the method of rigging in the next year’s election would be different from what it used to be. “It will be more advanced, scientific, tactical and logical. It will be carried out in a more matured way,” he stated. Primate Ayodele who, a few months ago predicted that there would be bomb explosion in Abuja and political earthquake in Aso Rock which would shock Jonathan, said “the plan of God for this country is sancrosant. When you talk of winning election according to rule of the game, Jonathan will not win the 2011 presidential election. “He would influence INEC to rig the election in his favour and thereby force himself on the nation, contrary to the word of God. “His action will spell doom for himself and the nation. Only prayer can avert the crisis that Jonathan’s ambition will plunge this nation into. “He needs to listen, but those surrounding him will not give him breathing space till they push him into the pit. “I know that many pastors and alfas will tell him that he is the messiah and that the coast is clear for him. It will be like the day of King Ahab for many of them when they will bury their heads in shame. Let us choose as God directs, not by what they are getting from the politicians. “Many will see this message as a doom prophecy. I am not bothered about it. I am only saying what God asked me to tell the nation. “I can tell you today, I can stand anywhere in the world to call myself a prophet of God. I can tell you that about 80 per cent of my prophesies had come to pass, not 100 per cent. “Before you mention two or three prophets in Nigeria today, my name would come up. I am still saying that Jonahtan’s ambition will plunge this country into crisis. Let him take certain steps to save himself and the nation. The bomb explosions are a warning sign,” he stated. http://www.tribune.com.ng/sat/index.php/news/2224-jonathans-ambition-ll-spell-doom-for-nigeria-primate-ayodele.html |
Akin-Egba:I couldn't have put it better. Isn't it ironic that the rest of Nigerians are comfortable with FEDERAL CHARACTER, but some of them oppose zoning? What type of hypocrisy is that? ![]() I saw people like Tafawa Balewa (who thought that Nigeria was a comic script) on that list. ![]() For anyone to not include Michael I. Okpara on that list is really insulting to the Igbo and ALL easterners (though some of these former easterners will keep denying that Okpara improved their areas). Jonathan acted true to his beliefs here. Quite unfortunate. Well, life goes on. ![]() |
Faeb:Frankly, [b]beaf I think there are gaps in your analysis. War is a serious thing and it tests friendships and associations. ![]() As you may know, I don't buy the "middle belt" lie, neither do I buy the "ND" lie. Who in the middle belt will fight fellow northerners if the leader is a middle belter? Remember Gowon (a christian middle belter) who led the north in the war against christian easterners. When the war started, there was some understanding in the east. When it heated up, people started to distance themselves from Igbo. Suddenly, it was not an eastern thing again. It became an Igbo thing. That is why the east lost in 1970. Same thing will repeat if Ijaw tries a real war in Nigeria. Like I said, only some Ijaw will fight to some extent, and that is if they see a hope of victory. If they see a real war, they may not even fight. ![]() MEND has not been really tested in a real war, trust me on that. So there is no "ND" when the war really starts. So it will boil down to Ijaw thing. The more things change the more they remain the same. |
Ileke-IdI: ![]() Ileke-IdI is bored again. ![]() Well, let me indulge you. ![]() Business to do while the war rages: Import/Export (everything including weapons to BOTH sides). Going to school, church and ALL social events Goofing around, partying and merry making Continue stealing as much as you can from public coffers And finally, give N20 to the vanquished for any amount he had in the bank before the war! ![]() Gerrit now? It is 2:15 a.m. in Florida. Go to bed baby! ![]() |
Ileke-IdI:Actually, it is more like north(Hausa/Fulani) vs Ijaw, while everybody else continues with normal business, just like during the last war. ![]() |
Ileke-IdI:I know for sure. No maybes. |
Now, Ghali Umar Na'Abba is one of the northerners with integrity. He was an excellent speaker of the house. I rank him high because Obasanjo could not manipulate him then. So, his words carry some weight with me. |
Zoning should be upheld –Na’Abba Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’Abba, has said that the zoning formula put in place by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should be upheld since it has been in process. Na’Abba, who represented Kano Municipal Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives on the PDP ticket, said although he does not really support zoning, it should continue since the process has been in place. Hear him: “I really don’t support zoning, but when there is an agreement to zone the presidency to particular areas of the country, that agreement should be upheld until it goes the whole hug. “And I want to say, on zoning, that when Nigerians speak about zoning, they are particular about the presidency. And well, of course, I believe that the current zoning arrangement should go the whole hug before it is discarded.” Speaking on the forthcoming elections, Na’Abba decried the absence of knowledgeable people in the affairs of the country and called on Nigerians to vote in knowledgeable people into government. “Nigerians should make sure that they elect people who would serve the country. People of knowledge are supposed to occupy different political offices in the country,” he said. Na’Abba was, however, evasive when asked to comment on the recent development in the polity, such as the October 1 bomb blasts and its aftermath, which included the demand by elder statesman and former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, that President Goodluck Jonathan should resign. He said: “I have no comment on that really.” http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2010/oct/09/national-09-10-2010-012.htm |
Ileke-IdI:You won't be caught in a country at war talk less of fighting one. lol. |
supereagle:Don't take that to the bank. ![]() With the way things are unfolding, more Nigerians are beginning to question the rationale of discarding zoning at this stage. The polity is heating up more. And the question remains whether all these talkers are ready for conflict if any starts. If the north mounts a serious pressure on Jonathan, with the way he is dillydallying, he cannot muster support from the south. Ndigbo will not fight for Jonathan. Will you fight for him? I know I won't fight for him. His Ijaw folks are busy double dealing, and they are no real threat. The Yoruba will never fight any war. Period. So who will fight for Jonathan? |
