PoliticsRe: What Igbos Need Most. We Don't Need Biafra by Onlytruth(m): 9:47am On Nov 19, 2009
@diobi

I'll be honest, this thought never crossed my mind before. I prefer a separation from Nigeria because the place is not working and one of the things making it not to work is hatred for Igbos. Some Nigerians can't admit that a genocide was carried out against the Igbos, while some are even threatening a repeat. So I believe we don't share enough social values with some of the key component tribes of the Nigerian nation to remain in one nation. My confusion now is that those same Nigerians also don't want us to leave, so we may have to fight again to leave. Totally befuddled.

Hmm, something to really think about. I would choose Biafra, but if we can pull this off, it might even be a better idea. Just my thoughts.

Ka anyi merie awusa, ndi namaro chukwu, tigbuo ha, zobuo ha, oh nna! (that we may defeat the hausa, people without any heart of God, beat them down and trample on them in the battlefield, oh God our father!) - Biafran soldiers' war song

What a contrast! One was planning a battlefield victory, another was planning to pillage properties and rape women!

Did you notice that almost all the actions planned above had nothing to do with the coup of Jan 1966.
"Pillage property, rape women, complete pogrom (their own words)?

What had any of these got to do with dead politicians and soldiers huh

"Let us go and crush them. We will pillage their property, rape their womenfolk, kill off their menfolk and leave them uselessly weeping. We will complete the pogrom of 1966"

Dont look for trouble- did you read my posts on the previous page- I gave a balanced account of the civil war so that when the history is balanced, we can discuss how we can prevent such a horrible incident happening
Ol boy just stop pretending to be what you are not! You want us to forget the past and yet hope for a different future. You've been tagged properly. So unless you have something new to say, please move on!

We all want positively different outcomes, so we must start to do things differently.

The modern military should not be a dumping ground for dunces (I stress that this is not a northern characterisation), we need intelligent and educated soldiers, where we have established that capacity needs to be developed for some groups then that is what we should do, rather than lowering standards.
Sefago- Balance and transparency are needed in our armed forces and polity. I concur that a lopsided army can't be a good thing. Pride in ones ethnicity is also not a bad thing, the problems occur when ethnicity is used to cheat, denigrate and exclude others.
You've just earned my first respect.

Beaf:
There is everything wrong (and dangerous) if the army remains ethnically lopsided.
Everything should be done to avoid lopsidedness in the armed forces, civil service, foreign service and FG finances.

I have always held that the educational deficiency up North should be viewed as a national security problem. If the North is really interested in the union, education must be made a priority (maybe dissenting parents should even be jailed); sharia must also be radically scaled back to cover Muslims and customary cases only. Once these things are done, the North will rapidly catch up with the South and the quota system can be scaled back, so that it does not put some Southern states in reverse gear. Enough has to be done by the Southern states to allay the "miss-placed" Northern paranoia (about their weakness outside the army), due to their educational backwardness (maybe that's another discussion?).
The other bits needing attention are;
True talk my brother. Keep it up! wink

"Bestialities and indignities of all kinds were visited on Biafrans in 1966. In Ikeja Barracks (Western Nigeria) Biafrans were forcibly fed on a mixture of human urine and faeces. In Northern Nigeria numerous Biafran house-wives and nursing mothers were raped before their husbands and children. Young girls were abducted from their homes, working places and schools and forced into sexual intercourse with sick, demented and leprous men.

The Igbos must be considerably reduced in number" (Lagos Policeman quoted in New York Review, 21 December, 1967)
One word now describes the policy of the Nigerian military government towards secessionist Biafra: genocide. It is ugly and extreme but it is the only word which fits Nigeria's decision to stop the International Committee of the red Cross, and other relief agencies, from flying food to Biafra ,

I have said it in 100% of my posts that this is an academic opinion, very objective- from my analysis of how things are in nigeria. you should, and i hope you are take my opinion as an academic view, and not one based on prejudice. Unlike you guys, i seek ways of ensuring longlasting peace- but i feel that can only be brought by making the igbos aware that causing trouble/war is not the solution itself. That isn't attacking the cause, but exacerbating it.
A genocidal "academic opinion". You seem to be beating a fast retreat from your earlier position, which was that you will commit genocide again against easterners or Igbos if we dare push our demand. Isn't it too early to try changing your colors? We know you now.
You started the war talk and kept daring your victims to "do something about it".
Ol boy you are really foolish.

Honestly I really think you are living in the 60s. My friend (mate?) Nigeria has changed internally strategically in ways you cannot even begin to understand (at least you've shown that from your posts here). Internationally, the change is even more profound. So, before you talk about commiting genocide against Ijaw or Igbo, better go and ask your sponsors to tell you some home truths. The people you are planning to wipe out almost have free rein on arms movement into Nigeria. When Obasanjo (your warlord) admitted that the Niger delta problem has no military solution, people like you should have listened.
Also, the Igbo are DETERMINED to ensure that our past experience never repeated. So, calm down (mate), the genocide is not heading eastwards. You have Igbo in every cranny of Nigeria, and they are all willing to fight you in your land this time. We've learned that when we run home, you come after us. This time it won't happen. You can take that to the bank!

grin grin grin. Na craze man na craze man b that. I say na craze man be that. I pity you cry cry cry. I think it is too late for you to understand that united we stand, divided we fall. And for obvious reasons too- there is no feasibility in biafra, you guys are too small and will fail economically- work out the terms for staying in nigeria than waste time dreaming up a nation that would wreck the lives of your children cry
And they have already started! Don't worry now. We offered confederation or loose federation in 1967, even after 50,000 of our people were killed, you first agreed and then made a volte face. When we insisted on the agreement, you levied a war against our people. In the war, you continued what you didn't finish in the pre-war genocide. And today, you are here to revise history, though your murderous nature is making you do a poor job of it. You simply can't afford not to be gleeful of your "exploits" in genocide.
My children have no future in such a country, and 40 wasted years after the war is a clear proof of the unworkability of Nigeria.
A nation that is denying an atrocity against 50 million of its own citizens is a doomed nation.
The other mistake you guys make is you keep assuming that Igbos are simply after the creation of Biafra. Ol boy, you don't even have a clue! Like I told your brother DuduKight, one day you guys will beg us to leave and we would then give you our terms! Time and history is on our side.

Give it a rest; what values are you talking about? The values that allow you to slap someone and whine like a little girl when the the other guy gives you a body slam. Like I said feeling this strongy about it and moaning on the Internet is cowardly. It is time to do something, if you have the courage.
I don't want to insult you, but you have really missed the entire point of this conservation. You guys keep saying "go and do something about it". What do you think this whole thing is? Never mind, the most important thing for now is for Igbos to understand the nation they claim. This understanding is so critical. Before, we had only few months to defend ourselves against you. Now,we have forever! So, ol boy calm down. Time is on our side! Relax. I once prophesized that you guys will one day beg us to leave Nigeria and we will then give you the terms under which we leave. So jeje my friend, no hurry in life! grin

Continue with your claustrophobic mind-set; the only views you want are the ones that are similar to yours. I have made my point, I will not discuss it further with you.
No, c'mon! let's see how you re-write your murderous history and mask your justification for a continuation of such tendencies; yet, you pretend we share one "indivisible nation".  Go and find out what nations that have used that term do to ensure that everyone signed on to a common creed. You can't even acknowledge a simple truth. Funny Nigerians!

Onlytruth - How can shared values be more important than bringing rapists and murderers to book and seeing that justice is done?
@Sapeleguy

I'm just saying that seeking justice in an atmosphere of different value systems is an exercise in futility, and Duduknight just proved me right.
Justice only means the same to peoples of shared values. Nigeria just never bothered to ensure that component tribes and peoples shared values before creating a single nation.

It is obvious from your post that your view is that everyone in Nigeria is guilty except for people from the east. We all know that can not be true. If what you are looking for is for the North and the South-West to acknowledge and apologise to the East, the IT IS NEVER going to happen. Like I said previously, if you feel so strongly about, quit whining on the Internet and do something about it.
It is presumptious of you to imply that all the Igbo crave is an apology. You even sound trite! Did you even read my last post?

You do not care what led to the regrettable events in the 1960s because IGBO officers were responsible for starting the death and destruction but you want others to acknowledge and apologise for sins committed against the Igbos. Keep that line of thought.
Familiar line of murderous thinking! The Tutsi rebels killed the Hutu President (Juvenal Habyarimana), hence the Hutus were justified in butchering 800,000 Tutsi civilians, most of them neighbors and friends. Nigeria is really a very funny country. I hope my Igbo brothers and sisters, and the minorities are reading this!
