Malawian: Judging from how these ofemmanus are happy with the impending exit of onlytruth, I can only assume he was a thorn in their flesh. Odumchi better not come here to do pacifist or I go use something break him head. We must be attacking these oily soupers for all eternity. I have said my own o.
Nwanne m, you are one of the few of our brothers that drew that conclusion (judging from posts I read here). It is well though.
I often wonder why our people fail to see how easier it is to destroy than to build. I never even knew that someone who calls himself Igbo would troll an Igbo Eze here, for whatever reason (except that the Eze sold out on our collective interest). As far as I know, I have not done that, and will NEVER do that in this life or next.

Nsogbu adighi.

Don't worry though, we shall make sure that our new Eze tow the same line I towed. TRUST ME ON THAT. cool

Onlytruth is a funny person who has brought great amusement to me.

Let us continue to enjoy laughing at him. You can join in too if you like grin
I always wonder why you Yoruba peeps have sleepless nights over my leadership of Ndigbo.
Could it be that I know what you know? lol grin grin

If a foreigner went through this and the nomination thread, he/she would think that the Eze Ndigbo will also rule Yorubas here. lmao. cheesy

I'm an strong supporter of bicylces, though I wouldn't know how they would be protected against crazy Lagos drivers. It would work better in quieter cities like Abuja, Enugu, Calabar or maybe quieter parts of Lagos. Watching this one.

Abagworo: I dey laugh o. David Mark just said the truth. The NCNC was the only National Party and was headed by an Igbo and the 1st Mayor of Enugu was an Hausa Man. Awolowo started tribalist party known as AG( Today's ACN) while his Northern brothers did same.

Everyday, Igbos keep getting vindicated.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria: Igbos And The Marginalisation Of Citizens by Onlytruth(m): 3:51pm On Oct 29, 2012
Abagworo: Igbos are actually better off and hence have no reason to cry. They can live and adapt to any language, culture and difficult situation. So in reality we have no woes. What the writer is saying is that there is a breed of jealousy which exists and acts as a unifying factor for other Nigerians once Igbo is involved. That fear of domination needs to be removed and a level playing field introduced so that the best will come out of Nigeria.
I think the bolded has always been known in Nigeria; however I personally don't think that anyone would willingly provide that "level playing field" for Igbo to thrive in any part of Nigeria. It is all a factor of mindset. I thank God that our people are slowly but finally undergoing a period of epiphany, or an enlightenment of sorts. We are gradually realizing that we must grab Nigeria with both hands and powerfully stake a claim to any part of it where we find ourselves. The "persecuted and marginalized" mindset cannot serve us.
I have always believed, that if we cannot secede successfully from Nigeria, we must embrace Nigeria as forcefully as possible, because it seems that some other Nigerians only like us when we are like them; but WE ARE NOT THEM. We can assimilate to some extent, but the moment we lose the most important attributes we possess, we will stop succeeding as we are currently doing.
That is why we must remain IGBO through and through in Nigeria. That way we win (survive, thrive) no matter what.

All I know is that whenever a leader starts saying that he/she is not afraid of the ICC, my street wisdom tells me that they are REALLY AFRAID.
As far as I know, I believe it is only a matter of time before a case comes up at the ICC.
Maybe it is time Gowon starts praying for himself.

Most Igbos don't regard Port Harcourt as an Igbo town and you know it.

In any case, you'd be interest to find that many of those cosigning your quoted post here will in the same breath call Port Harcourt people inyamiris and refer to places such as Aluu as Igbo towns.
Don't believe me? A simple search in Nairaland will do.
It becomes an Igbo town whenever they want to demonize it for devious reasons, but reverts to "minority land" when they want to exploit it, because they know they cannot exploit an "Igbo town".

Assuming this, why didn't this occur when Igbo-land was effectivly rendered land-locked during the war all the way to how Nigeria saw fit? At that point, they had nothing that was not theirs, per what you mean (I think).

Why were they forced back into the union at that, only to be told that they are not wanted, or that they are scum, as you put it?

Makes very little sense.

Dalu nwanne m,

Please pray for our new Eze. We delivered on our promise of one term and smooth transition. We have to do that because we need the younger generation to tow a different line from that of our fathers. I shall do my best to ensure that the new Eze continues from where we stopped. We are still far from where we need to be.
I have confidence in the abilities of our new Eze, and I will make sure he hits the ground running in January 2013.
Thank you once more.

Umunne m,

Firstly, I congratulate our newly elected Eze Odumchi for a worthy “fight” and for winning fairly. I thank the Almighty God for a day like this! Our newly elected Eze has always been one of the people I would like to replace me (as a member of my current council). My special joy is that my wish was granted me in that a member of the council succeeds me; I would not need to “debrief” him on much, because he already knows the vision and strategy we mapped out for our people's emancipation and empowerment. My brother Odum, I look forward to giving you the keys to the office of Eze Ndigbo, which is essentially the password to the email address of the Eze. I will do so at the end of this year (per our tenure rules, and in order to avoid chaos).

HAIL TO THE NEW CHIEF! cool

I also wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to you all fair participants of this process (Igbo and non-Igbo) for a mature, focused and conclusive exercise of your “civic duties” - to elect our new Eze, the man to will lead Igbo opinion in this website from January to December 2013. This “civic duty” is crucial, and you executed it excellently! This is a HUGE achievement by all of us, and a special achievement by this current Eze and his current council members. I wish to specially thank PointB, 9naija I hail, and ujchief for bringing this election to a decent conclusion. You all are the true leaders of Umu Igbo in this day and time. You represent our best qualities. Thank you very much and may God bless you immensely for your selfless service to your people!

I wish to thank all my supporters and all those who share my vision for Ndigbo. My brothers and sisters, I wish I would have found the time (next year) to continue in this work, but I have to move on to other things, both in my own life, and in the service of Ndigbo (ENYI for example); I indicated that earlier in the nomination thread. I understand your fears (expressed in the numerous emails I received) about ensuring that we continue to speak strongly and with one voice on this and other social media sites; however, I want you to understand that it is my personal wish to “retire to my dacha” because I have earned my “retirement”. The incoming Eze is essentially my protégé, and I hope he will raise his own protégé at the end of his own tenure. That way, we have continuation and in the process produce great future leaders of our people Ndigbo! You are in safe hands! Odum means lion in Igbo. cool

I also want us to realize that what makes us Igbo (democracy and smooth change of leadership) is perhaps more important than any need to achieve other things. Our tested culture of democracy and peaceful transition of power is paramount, because it fosters our unity. It is important to understand, that only when we stand united do we stand a better chance of defeating our enemies, no matter how big or strong they may be. Throughout my tenure, I worked tirelessly to ensure that we Ndigbo speak in unity.

Before I came to this office, there was constant snipping between Igbo from different states in Nigeria. I fought that to a standstill, made so many enemies, but glad that it yielded some fruits. I am very proud of that achievement. Our unity is also made stronger by a sense of equal access by every Igbo to the highest office in the “land”. Part of what threatens our unity is the feeling (whether justified or not) that some Igbo are marginalized in Igbo politics. We need to give those types of feelings a death blow, and we must never miss an opportunity to build our unity. This exercise represents one of such opportunity and we must grab it with both hands. It was in that spirit that I personally turned down all entreaties to contest this election and to seek a second term.

I couldn’t help but notice that I still polled a whopping 45% of votes even though I asked to be allowed to retire, and of course without putting up a campaign for re-election. I was both happy and sad because of that: happy that you love me so much and will miss me, and sad also because you seem to be apprehensive of the incoming leadership. I presume that most of my voters are not sure of what the new Eze may bring to the office; however I wish to double assure them that we shall ALL help our new Eze to be the way we want him to be. Our new Eze is also a member of ENYI. I won't say more about that for now. I will advise the incoming Eze to continue in the line that we (he and I and the council members) have already laid down (defending Igbo position and interest without apologies). I am not saying that he has to respond to EVERY lie or disinformation, but we want to see him TRY his best to correct some of the disinformation. We live in an information age, and what we are actually doing here is waging a war of information. He, the Eze, must lead that war; that is his job. If we lose that war, we will certainly lose all other wars that may face us –political, cultural, economic, social, international, etc (if ever). So, this is a very important job. I have to say these in order to calm down my supporters and to give our new Eze the opportunity to first show his hands after taking over the office. Our legacy of maintaining a strong voice in this site must be preserved. Nuff said on that.

I also wish to address those who accuse us of towing a militant line in our defense of Ndigbo and Igbo interest in this site. I want to state without any equivocation, or fears of contradiction whatsoever, that I was made Eze mostly because of my methods and my opinions in the first place! When I was campaigning for the office in 2011, I promised NEVER to change my views or methods (provided of course that Nigeria remain unchanged -where Igbo interest is constantly sabotaged). I did not change, and it served Ndigbo very well during this ending tenure! We can all see the results by the fact that our people are speaking up more and challenging our situation in Nigeria.

I have to say this with every emphasis, that there is really no other job for the Eze here except to stand up strongly (in his comments of course) in defense of Ndigbo whenever men of ill fame start peddling lies against us here. For many years (before the internet age), we suffered a form of marginalization in the hands of Nigerian news media dominated by a section of the country. We could not get our stories and arguments out. Our voices were blocked; yet our voices include our joys, and (YES) our angers and bitter feelings about our situation in Nigeria. IMHO any Igbo who fails to understand the need for our voice to be strong here has failed the most basic test of wisdom, and understanding of issues relevant to us. Ultimately, what would ensure that we continue to speak with one voice is that the Eze must speak the people’s mind, always, or most of the time. If he does not do that, then the people will likely go out and speak for themselves, and the result would be cacophonous Igbo opinion in this site. That will return us back to square one, and is undesirable.

I wish to thank all the decent non-Igbo who followed this exercise to its logical conclusion. I noticed that Katsumoto was ALWAYS viewing this thread throughout this exercise, without making a single comment. I figure that he is particularly interested in this exercise as part of his continuous research into Igbo mindset and culture, maybe with the aim of learning a thing or two. Katsumoto, you now have a new Eze to interact and contend with. I will warn you though that I and other Igbo “egg heads” will not allow you to gain the upper hand in those “interactions”. The same message goes to all non-Igbo here. We welcome (as always) hands of true friendship and comradeship (not fair weather friendships that throw Igbo interests under the bus at the slightest signs of danger or uncertainty). We can always do with more friendships. We would not think twice before standing up militantly to defend our interests if we feel that they are being undermined or destroyed by anyone in this website. I thank ndu_chucks for remaining a true gentleman throughout this process. I also thank him for his endorsement of my work here.

I urge Okija_juju and all other energetic Igbo sons and daughters in this site to offer their services to the new Eze. The shortest cut to gaining recognition and followership here is to join the council of the new Eze, and take up a role. Perform that role selflessly and people will take note. No matter what anyone may say, we know ourselves in this site. We know what each Igbo son or daughter can do for Ndigbo. So, grab one role (assigned or supported by the Eze of course) and run with it! This role will prepare you for a greater role in ENYI in the future.

Lastly, I enjoin umu Igbo to pray for our new Eze and to accord him MAXIMUM support, because the forces that used to follow me around will now migrate to him. We are a special people, and we have enemies (FACT), and those enemies are not interested in fairness or justice. They love us only when we are under them. It will only end when we stand up to upstage them and take our rightful place; and it will not be by apologizing or playing dead where our interests are concerned. Freedom is taken, not given.

Thank you all and God bless,

Congratulations once more to the incoming Eze Odumchi!

HAIL TO THE INCOMING CHIEF! grin grin cool

Yours truly,

PoliticsRe: Dr. Nwaezeigwe Defends Awolowo On Achebe’s Civil War Memoir by Onlytruth(m): 4:09pm On Oct 25, 2012
My other thought is that we Ndigbo must learn (even if unwillingly) that we cannot be progressing, and basically besting even our hosts in many ways, and not attract envy. It is human nature. The question is what should we do to ensure that our progress never triggers mass murder?
The man did not provide an answer to that. Maybe we should also apologize for progressing. I do not think that playing dead and fawning at everyone is the right strategy; we have to adopt a practical strategy to ensure it never happens again. These types of people are why Ndigbo have been relegated to the back in the Nigerian scheme of things through many years. I thank God that we have started to come back politically. It is long past time we stop apologizing and suffering from defeat mentality. We must grab our stake and dare the devil.
PoliticsRe: Dr. Nwaezeigwe Defends Awolowo On Achebe’s Civil War Memoir by Onlytruth(m): 3:52pm On Oct 25, 2012
Dr Nwaezeigwe would not be the first (or the last for that matter) to tend to apologize for everyone else but his own. I am not a trained psychologist, but I have seen too many of these types, all over Igboland, all my life. He is the type that even apologized to Northerners in the heat of the pogroms. They accepted blames for what few officers did without consulting anyone. These types (due to some part deeply felt shock of loss) develop a wierd view of the world: they blame themselves and their own for all the world's problems. sad

Quite sad I must say.

Let me tell Dr Nwaezeigwe that his loss was also felt by almost EVERY IGBO family. We ALL lost the war. I understand that different people deal with that loss in different ways; but for a fully grown man and a teacher at higher institution -whose opinion carry much weight among his students- he should do himself and the rest of society a big favor by undergoing a psychiatric treatment, else he may wake up one day to say something that will force his own kins to expel him from Igboland.

Dr Nwaezeigwe should realize that (as someone said a few pages back), Achebe's book was not talking about what happened inside the secret chambers of Nigerian or Biafran government. He was only talking about an egregious situation (egregious in this context is intended to mean "openly bad", "something every normal person would perceive as bad", ). The war was not fought under the bed. It was fought in full glare of the whole world. Even some of the information in Achebe's book could have been strung together by any amateur author, using only quotes from civil war actors on the Nigerian side.
Again, some of us younger folks who never saw the war could have allowed the whole thing to die down had some Yoruba in this and other forums towed a more silent line when issues of this war comes up in forums online; but NO, what we see is constant justification of the tactics adopted by the Nigerian side to effectively wipe Igbo off the map. Even foreign media alluded to that. Even on this forum, one can count in one hand the number of Yoruba's who condemn the adoption of starvation as a weapon of war; even today!

The man (Nwaezeigwe) also comes across as if he is embarking on a good 'ol "pull him down" on Achebe. We have that a lot in our side of Nigeria, and we the youths are planning to fight such character in our midst. Achebe did not say anything that even an illiterate in Igboland could not see during and after the war. The issue has long been settled in Igbo minds, and one million Nwaezeigwe's can never erase it. We can choose to move on, and are in fact moving on without help; so the man should cure himself of defeat mentality and leave the rest of us alone, because we know what happened!

@ PointB and other electoral officials.

An idea came into my mind last night (while watching the presidential debate between Obama and Romney). I think we should organize a debate between all the constestants.
In other words, I think we should not only allow the first three to run, but allow every nominee who accepted his nomination, to be drafted into the debate.

After the debate, we then go for polling.

We need to make sure that the next Eze is sound and well grounded on all fronts.

A topic could be: Should Ndigbo stay in Nigeria, or secede; for or against?

What do you think?

I read with some sadness what Ifyalways have been writting about current Eze and his council and other irresponsible accusations she has thrown our way.

I can overlook any personal attacks, because that comes with the job. What I cannot accept or allow to stand, is a sustained campaign of calumny levelled against my legacy - a product of my stewardship to Ndigbo, hard-won over years. The legacy of this administrations stands TALL, and it is to our credit that umu Igbo will NEVER be ridiculed by others here and around the world without some STRONG response. We no longer tiptoe or pu.ssyfoot around issues and topics concerning our survival and wellbeing inside Nigeria. We are fast loosing our victim mentality and taking our position in the Nigerian nation. We are speaking more and more boldly, and with one voice over issues that concern us. In fact Ndigbo have awaken to challenge the status quo and are boldly staking a claim in Nigeria.

As a strong follower of Igbo opinion online, and a monitor of Igbo forums worldwide, the current Eze and his council has forced a conversation and a strong Igbo opinion, and the impact is showing in so many places in Nigeria today. A whole lot of Igbo opinion leaders worldwide constantly visit this site to read my posts, and a few of them contact me directly for direction in certain critical issues (mainly political direction of Igbo nation in Nigeria).
My job has been very "involved" and ardous. Still it remains a very PAYLESS and UNAPPRECIATED job.

I therefore call on Ifyalways to immediately cease and desist from trying to sully my current office. She, like the rest of us, is entitled to her personal opinion, and is always free to express them. However, she should not lie and obfuscate facts just to score a windy and devious point. ANY SANE AND DECENT IGBO LADY WOULD NOT ADOPT HER MINDSET AND METHODS ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE HERSELF FAILED TO SERVE WHEN ASKED TO SERVE.
I won't want to say this again.

My email has been innundated with calls for me to reconsider my voluntary choice not to recontest. In fact MANY of my emailers state that they do not believe that those being promoted can handle the job. I have also been told that I should not endorse anyone. So, let me start by withdrawing ALL my prior endorsements up to this date.

You for example believed that shymexx (posting under the name hypeman) is the same person as Okija Juju, who is the same person as coogar. Despite these three individuals having radically different posting styles, positions on different issues, etc.

Should someone be disqualified based upon what a few stvpid folk believe?
Guy let it be.
We are exercising a popular mandate here. I don't know you for trolling (like most of your brothers).

That's just wonderful, her recent presence in nairaland is refreshing, she is our female version of Dede1.

ekt_bear: Akin_egba is an alias of your brother Nchara, an Igbo from Abia.

Who is Okija Juju a dummy account for?
A lot of Igbo believe that Okija_juju is no other than your brother, the good old Alj-harem.

They strongly believe it. Now, I'm sure they have reasons for that.

So, my question is still valid.

ekt_bear: The issue is, who is the one determining this behavior? It is certainly not the people who have chosen to DQ him beforehand, is it? No, it is you and your clique. Why not let the people decide what the qualifications for candidacy are or should be?
I asked you a question earlier. You eluded it.

Would you allow Akin_egba to contest to lead Yoruba on this forum.
You know he speaks Yoruba better than you. lol
So, answer. I'm waiting.
