Their leaders must be imprisoned right away.

PoliticsRe: Easterners, What Are Your "Biafra Stories"? by Onlytruth(m): 6:50am On Aug 01, 2012
My family almost never made it out of Kano in 1966 if not for my fathers small arms cache of double barrel guns. Nuff said about that! cool

My family moved from Kano in 1966 down to Port Harcourt and stayed there till the actual war broke out. My father was among the voluteers who went to conduct "combing" (put out the fires at the Port Harcourt refinery among other duties) when the Nigerian Navy was shelling PH from the coast. He sustained slight burns to his upper right arm and chest, and carried the scars to the war proper.

He joined the Biafran army when my family returned to Nnewi in late 1967, got few weeks of training, and was moved to the fronts at Nkpor.
Before the war, my father was in the leadership of Ndigbo in Kano alongside "Okonkwo Kano" ( great man!). He was shot in the left hip (from the back) by a Nigerian army snipper near umudioka and was mistaken for dead but was later found and rescued by his colleagues, then moved to the Biafran camp at Nwafor Orizu secondary school in Nnewi, from where he was then sent home.
In my father's absence, my mother had to get involved in "afia attack" and walked from Nnewi (Anambra state) all the way to Umuahia (Abia state!) where she bought salt. She then carried the salt (on her head) all the way to Nnewi to sell. That afia attack kept kwashiokor away from my family thoughout the worst period of the war.

During one of her trips, she was basically rescued (together with other women traders) from a rain of mortar shells from the Nigerian army by some Biafran soldiers; one of them was a family friend who knew her back in Kano. She recalled that the soldiers loaded them to the back of a "tipper" truck which ferried wounded and dead Biafran soldiers back to towns behind the lines. One wounded soldier was desperate for water and she wanted to offer him water, but she was scolded by other Biafran soldiers who told her that if the soldier drank water he would certainly die. She had to cover her ears against all the mortar "whistles" (as she called them) and the painful moans of wounded soldiers.

She recalls that when she was walking back with the salt on her head, they would encounter many dead and wounded people along the road. On a certain trip, other women in their trip party were basically dumping their salt merchandize into the bushes and walking home with nothing. "Ndu ka aku" was the logic, but the problem was that you are dead without the salt which would be sold and the money used to buy food. You are certainly dead without the salt (thought my mother, and she was right!). She held onto her salt and walked home! My mum, the quintessential Igbo woman! Tough as a nail!

Well, I guess you all know now where I got my toughness. cool

My father recovered most of his properties in Kano though he had to sell some at give away prices. He later recovered one of his hotels in Port Harcourt.
He never really recovered from the war. sad
PoliticsRe: Nairalanders Who Can Make Significant Change In Nigeria Politics. by Onlytruth(m): 6:03am On Aug 01, 2012
@OP,

Thanks for the compliment. I have no doubt in my mind that I am a GREAT ASSET to both the United States (my adopted country) and Nigeria (my home country).
I serve the US faithfully in my day job, and I do so with great commitment and pride. I would do the same for Nigeria if given the opportunity. Nigeria's problems are so easy to solve. One just needs a certain level of purity of heart and love for one's neighbor to be able to change Nigeria almost overnight. All lovers of themselves can NEVER change Nigeria, mark my words. cool
PoliticsRe: Why Ifeanyi Ubah Wants To Be Governor Of Anambra by Onlytruth(m): 7:07pm On Jul 30, 2012
afam4eva: One thing i noticed about Anambra is that they like electing someone that's based in Anambra. You can't just come from your base in Lagos and Abuja and become the governor in Anambra state. I think that's one factor that militated against Soludo. While the Lagos media was tipping him to win the seat, Anambrarians knew who they wanted. Imagine that a Soludo did not even come second but third. I sha hope that he'll be elected in 2014 but first, he must do his home work.
You are right about the bolded, but there were other factors that helped Peter Obi during the last election. One factor for instance-> OJUKWU who begged our people to vote for Peter Obi. Ngige was the man to beat in that election; so I was not suprised by Soludo's third position. Ngige (to some extent) may still be the man to beat (if he recontests), unless Soludo makes use of Ngige's temporary "absense" (Ngige is in Abuja, lol) to do some serious groundwork. Anambra politics can be quite intriguing.

After Peter Obi, it will take long before we elect another business man to lead us.
We need technocrats and seasoned administrators.
PoliticsRe: Why Ifeanyi Ubah Wants To Be Governor Of Anambra by Onlytruth(m): 6:02pm On Jul 30, 2012
hardywaltz: Mr Onlytruth i have no issues with ur view, tone down the insults. If you don't believe me, pretend that u are from anoda LGA and sample peoples opinion on how they (Anambra Peps) feel about Nnnewi people and you may just be shocked with their nauseating responses. Good enough you acknowledged Peter Obi is on a vengeance mission against Nnnewi people for their role in his removal from office and not voting for him during the last election(s). U call urself Onlytruth well this is plaintruth. In essence what i'm trying to say is Nnnewi has to present a reasonable/viable candidate (not Ifeanyi Ubah; onlytruth etc) if they want to win people to their side.
You are cornered Mr man! cheesy
BTW I bolded the only truth in your comment. The rest is gibberish from an asinine mind. cool
Since when did YOUR PERSONAL inferiority complex towards Nnewi people translate to "Anambra against Nnewi"?
Do you know how proud an average Anambra man is just because of Nnewi town? lol

I have NEVER being a supporter of Mr Ifeanyi Uba, and I stated so in the past that I don't think that he is qualified to lead Anambra state.
Anambra state is NOT Capital oil. undecided

Like I said, Peter Obi is on a vengeance mission against Nnewi because we voted NGIGE (nothing more) and that alone speaks VOLUMES about his leadership abilities. A man so petty minded has no business leading a state like Anambra state. Nevertheless, he remains our governor until 2014 when we shall (by God's grace) elect a Soludo or even Dora Akunyili or such top flight intellectual leaders.

Every Nigerian should support the formation of STATE or CITY or LGA police in Nigeria.
Nigerian security system is designed to aid and abet the killing of innocent people and desecretion of all that is sacred.
Just last week, 18 Northern governors opposed the formation of state police. undecided
If Northern Nigeria wants to continue to keep current police system, then the North should secede and allow the rest of us to form a SANE country.
These types of evil will only fester and metastitize further until we reform the police system in Nigeria.

If I were any of the Nigerian state governors, I will form a state police and arm it overnight even if I face impeachment.
Our governors lack BALLS to lead.

I am an igbo, Anambra to be precise, seriously your words reveal a lot here and I advice that other igbo ethnic clans take note.

Though, I don't speak igbo because I never grew up with them but I have always thought that they were united until now.
You are NOT Igbo. Period. The bolded gave you away.
So, don't try to say what you don't know.

The WHOLE TRUTH is that Igbo is the most organized and united tribe in Nigeria. Quote me on that anyday. Here in Nairaland alone, the Igbo is the ONLY tribe that is organized. If you doubt me, show me another tribe that matches Igbo here in that department.

Only lunatics would be swayed by the words of another lunatic.
PoliticsRe: Why Ifeanyi Ubah Wants To Be Governor Of Anambra by Onlytruth(m): 5:01am On Jul 30, 2012
hardywaltz: Childish write up, Ifeanyi is free to contest, but i believe Anambra State has past that level of an illiterate ruling ova a large population of one of the most literate people in Nigeria (not as if it has happened before). Ifeanyi also comes from a not too politically vantage zone as u know most Anambarians are weary/suspicious of Nnewi folks, not to mention that Peter Obi currently has an axe to grin with Nnewi people for all the tribulations they put him through and also the massive support Andy Uba got from Ifeanyi in the last Governorship election.
Trust Anambra people they will eat your money, laff and dine with u but on election day they shall show u their real color, just like they did to Soludo and Emeka Offor.
Some of you people talk faster than your brains (assuming you have any) and it is very unfortunate!
Since when did the rest of Anambra state gang up on Nnewi? This is how you people plant evil in Igboland and start lamenting (if you are Igbo any way) that we don't get the right leaders or that we don't work together to develop. undecided
The fact remains that Nnewi has not recently produced a top flight politician like the Ikemba or "Akwa eke" Nwafor Orizus or the like. We have produced more businessmen than politicians, so in that light, we cannot necessarily have the best politicians equipped with the best education (comparatively speaking now) to lead Anambra state, at least until the Onlytruths mature. tongue cool cool

As for the reason Peter Obi is muzzling Nnewi (notice that I still give him fair reviews even though he is doing this), it is because my Nnewi folks voted for Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige in the last elections, not the lie you gave about Andy Uba getting support from Ifeanyi Uba.

Some of you people have serious mental confidence problems. Stop dividing Anambra state for your myopic and fallacious reasons. undecided angry
PoliticsRe: Why Ifeanyi Ubah Wants To Be Governor Of Anambra by Onlytruth(m):
If APGA fields Mr Ifeanyi Uba for the gubernatorial elections in 2014, the party may as well kiss Anambra state goodbye. There is a general feeling in Anambra state that we need a HIGH INTELLECTUAL like Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to tinker with the state. We don't lack such men in Anambra state, so businessmen should steer clear until we fix our state and set up all the world class infrastructure necessary to launch the state into the 21st century. Anambra won't have it any other way again.
Nuff said. cool
PoliticsRe: Anambra Oil Field Ready For Commissioning Next Month by Onlytruth(m): 4:08am On Jul 30, 2012
I have carefully tried to avoid topics that talk about the so called "oil" in Anambra state. I am a TYPICAL Anambra man ( I come from Nnewi town in Nnewi North LGA), and I get insulted anytime anyone talks as if our future lies in barrels of untapped oil in the Anambra river basin. It is only LAZY ediots that value oil higher than HUMAN RESOURCES.
I feel thoroughly embarassed by Chino11's deliberate attack on the integrity of Anambra state as a DIE HARD Igbo state.
When I came newly to Nairaland, I often wondered why some Yoruba folks would provoke us and attract curses and invectives from some of us upon themselves. I specifically inquired from one of them (I can't recall which one now) whether he thought the curses won't work. undecided

I am similarly wondering why Chino attracts curses from Igbo folks here -both Anambra and non-Anambra Igbo- who are deeply offended by his thoughtless antics.

My pride as an Anambra man comes from the fact that my state produces some of the best Nigerian minds (in education, science, literature and business).
I refuse for that pride to be stolen from me by someone whose state of origin I still question. cool

That said, I don't want to be seem as advancing ethnic agenda (not that I care much these days though, because there are those bent on twisting facts and tagging one no matter what one says or does undecided ).
The point is that this has nothing to do with ethnicity. It is about planning and development. The bridgehead is an eyesore!
Someone lied here that the mosque is the biggest in Onitsha, well it is NOT.

This is the time for the well known Anambra man's "stubbornness" to come to the front and stop this NEW culture (of always threatening violence) from taking hold on our land.

This is part of why I remain incredulous when anyone tells me that the North is still not one. Pray tell, how can 18 governors in the North rally round this backward policy of centralized police for 160 Nigerians? I would like to know the governor that skipped this meeting and to know why he skipped it. I hope it is Benue, because then I will start to believe that Benue should stop attending Northern governors forum meetings and join the SE, SW or SS meetings.
Nigeria needs to move forward, and all those who fear progress must be shoved aside.
We should not elect any Northern president any time soon.

I think that a lot of illiterate people tend to mix up things whenever the issue of secession comes up. They tend to not connect it with freedom of association and right to self determination which are protected by several UN charters. They tend to somehow warp the argument.
The fact remains that it is a POLITICAL action (not criminal action) to decide that you don't want to continue to associate politically with anyone within any defined nation.
If you use state powers to muzzle that right, you are violating international laws and one day will be held PERSONALLY accountable. You cannot hide under any state powers to commit international crimes. cool There is a new wind blowing round the world today. ndu_chucks take note.

“We are not resisting the decision of the state government to beautify the Bridgehead but the plan to demolish our place of worship is more political and could result in breakdown of law and order because no Muslim would stand by and watch their place of worship demolished for no just cause
This is why I personally think that Islam will find it VERY HARD to establish in Igboland. This mindset of always threatening violence in the face of slighest grievance.
Churches have been severally demolished in Nigeria in the North, West and East, and no Christian ever threatens violence because of it. I am now beginning to understand why some believe that Islam and peace are like oil and water that can NEVER mix. I don't fear for Onitsha or Anambra state because I know that my people are capable of dealing with any trouble maker.

IMHO, this is the most ENLIGHTENED judicial ruling to come out of Africa -nay the world- in MANY years. A lot of governments are basically abusing the powers of state by muzzling citizens' right to freedom of speech and association. As we enter a new era of enlightenment in the world, more and more agents of state who violate citizens' right of free speech and association will be held PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE for such crimes against humanity.

Here is the news in full:

Mombasa secessionist group unbanned by Kenyan court

A Kenyan court has lifted a ban on a group demanding an independent state around the coastal city of Mombasa - a popular tourist destination.

The government outlawed the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) in 2010, describing it as a "criminal group".

The government has said it will appeal the High Court's ruling that the ban was unconstitutional.

The ruling raises concern that Kenya's stability could be threatened by louder calls for secession, analysts say.

The MRC accuses the government of marginalising the indigenous ethnic groups living along the coast, which is also the centre of the country's tourism sector.

Dozens of MRC members have been arrested this year as the security forces try to enforce the ban.

'Grave implications'

The court said there was no evidence that the MRC had engaged in criminal activity.

"The court has been able to deduce that MRC is a political movement. Secession is a political agenda," Justice Francis Tuiyot said.

"The court therefore grants the MRC a chance to enjoy their political right. They should organise and register as a political party."

The court, however, stressed that the MRC must campaign for independence in a democratic way, without inciting war or promoting hate speech.

The MRC applauded the decision and the possibility of holding talks with the government.

Attorney General Githu Muigai said the government would appeal against the decision.
map

"Any group or organisation challenging the constitutional authority and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya cannot enjoy protection by the constitution," he said.

The acting head of Kenya's Civil Service, Francis Kimemia, said security chiefs would hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the "grave implications" of the ruling.

"The rule of law will continue to be enforced without fear or favour," Mr Kimemia said.

"The government assures Kenyans of their security and that of their property countrywide."

In the past the government has rejected talks with the MRC, saying it must first drop its demands for independence.

The BBC's Kevin Mwachiro in the capital, Nairobi, says, the issue of secession of the coastal region, is not new and seems to resurface in the run-up to a general election.

Kenya is due to go to the polls again in March next year.

I wish to say a HUGE thank you to Bro Spyder880 for doing us a HUGE favor by taking and posting these pictures! We've been begging our folks in Onitsha to post pictures but they turned it all down and would rather attack those with concrete evidence here.

From what I'm seeing, there is not enough government/infrastructural feel of Onitsha. The city remains what it has always been - a living proof of Igboman's never say die spirit of entrepreneurship. You cannot see old buildings or old designs there. People are building while the government has basically abandoned its duty as far as Onitsha is concerned.
My view has always been that a CASH COW like Onitsha should get disproportionate state budget allocation for infrastructure because it can raise huge tax money for state coffers. The same with Nnewi. I will continue to question the wisdom in building certain rural roads at the expense of commercial cities like Onitsha.
Pray, for example, how can anyone justify the state of the Enugu/Onitsha expressway? That is a federal road and it has been abandoned.

I don't want to get angry lest I say things I will regret.
